Duchess Meghan Honours "Incredibly Kind" Clare Waight Keller at British Fashion Awards

The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at the 2018 British Fashion Awards at the Royal Albert Hall to present a very special award.

Gone Girl actress and fellow Givenchy fan Rosamund Pike introduced Meghan on stage much to the delight of the designer and audience.

As Meghan walked on stage to cheering applause, she said: "It is such a pleasure to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the UK. It's so nice to see so many familiar faces; many of you I've known for quite a while and a lot of you I've been able to meet in the past year, so thank you for the warm welcome."

Meghan continued: "As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear. Sometimes it's very personal, sometimes it's emotional. But for me this connection is rooted in really being able to understand that it's about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women." The Duchess noted she recently read an article which said "the culture of fashion is shifting from where it was cool to be cruel to where it's cool to be kind. To that point, I feel especially proud to announce tonight's winner, who yes is a British designer leading on the global stage with vision and creativity, but also in incredible kindness, which is why when I met her for the first time eleven months ago, I knew that we'd be working very closely together".

Clare Waight Keller was completely taken aback admitting she was "shocked". She said: "I just saw her last week." The designer added she was "thrilled and honoured" before turning to Meghan and saying: "As part of my speech, you were in it. This woman is amazing and I got to know Meghan on such a personal level, and to have someone like that trust you in an incredible moment in their life is something that is just the most unbelievable honour, and I can't thank you enough."

Born in Birmingham, the designer studied at Ravensbourne College of Art, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in fashion, followed by a master's degree at the Royal College of Art. She started at Calvin Klein in New York as a stylist for the women's ready-to-wear line, then at Ralph Lauren. Ms Waight Keller last year became the first female artistic director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy.

It's been quite the year for both the Duchess and the talented designer. Their collaborative journey began in January when Meghan selected Waight Keller to design her wedding gown. "It was an extraordinary moment when she told me. Of course it's an incredible thing to be part of such a historic moment. I think she had very much seen my work and knew what I did. I think she loved the fact that I was a British designer, and working in a house such as Givenchy which has its roots in a very classical, beautiful style.

Ms Waight Keller said over time they quickly got to a point where the Duchess felt she knew exactly what she wanted after various meetings and trials. This meant that the designer got to know her, and she said of the new Duchess of Sussex: "She's exactly what you see on TV. She's just so genuine and warm and radiant. She's just glowing. She's a strong woman. She knows what she wants, and it was really an absolute joy working with her." She revealed the groom was more than pleased with the results: "He came straight up to me and he said 'oh my God, thank you, she looks absolutely stunning'. So I think for the both of them, they were just radiant at that time."

Ahead of the Windsor Royal Wedding exhibition, Meghan recalled the process and the reasons she chose Waight Keller "I had a very clear vision of what I wanted for the day, and what I wanted the dress to look like, and so what was amazing in working with Clare is that sometimes you’ll find designers try to push you in a different direction. But she just completely respected what I wanted to see for the day, and she wanted to bring that to life for me. So I knew at the onset I wanted a bateau neckline, I wanted a cropped sleeve, I wanted a very timeless, classic feeling and, obviously with respect to the environment we were in and St George’s Chapel, being really modest in what it would look like, I knew that the tailoring was so key, because the dress itself would be so covered up."

Meghan says in the commentary she had followed Clare Waight Keller’s career for a long time and she ticked “all the boxes” from being British, to reflect the duchess’ new home, and a woman, to working for Givenchy as artistic director, a global fashion house which added an international dimension to the big day."

The Duchess looked stunning in a black velvet one-shoulder, asymmetric gown by Clare Waight Keller.

The fit of the dress is exquisite; it's a gorgeous maternity choice too. It was complemented by a sleek updo, minimal make-up, dark nail polish and gold accessories. Meghan and Clare have struck up a very special partnership which has delivered understated chic looks time and time again. Tonight's gown is one of my favourites.

Laura shared a photo of a similar Givenchy design.

Training and employing young people in meaningful, creative jobs is vitally important now in Afghanistan where the young desperately need hope and a sense of purpose in a beautiful country tragically caught up in violence and conflict. It was a lovely surprise to see Meghan supporting Clare Waight Keller tonight. I expect the two will enjoy an enduring relationship.

  4. Yay! She has popped! Meg looks stunning and glowing. I’m sure the haters will complain she is wearing black. But it is a lovely dress with elegant, clean lines. Her bun is also sleek and no messy tendrils. So perhaps that will please some. She looks radiant and glowing. She is such a class act, no sign of stress amid all the ridiculous press about feuds and her Dad continuing to blab about their estrangement. I hope she is able to enjoy this time as a new little family during the holiday season. I still think she is a lovely breath of fresh air. I like both Kate and her. They are different people and both of their roles and styles can be celebrated equally. Love love love!

    1. Allison, I agree with you on everything. Sadly, I think Meghan will be criticized for lovingly having her hand protectively on her belly.

I think she looks fantastically elegant. Good for her.

    2. Anonymous 23:02 Well, I'm not going to criticize her for having her hands on her stomach, but I will say that I don't get it. I've never been pregnant, so maybe it's unconscious and women don't know they're doing it and they can't help it. But it seems so...."Hey! Look at my belly bump!" Meghan, herself, looks beautiful.

    3. I watched the video and I think the baby was moving or kicking. Her face is not focused like normal listening to someone speak would be , her hands are moving a little. Its almost impossible to not hold your belly when the movement is going on. ESP if it’s early days of movement. Erininnyc

    4. I think it's cute but am also wondering if it is common. I think she's used to holding her hands together in the front, so it could be a natural extension. I think she's so thrilled to be pregnant that she includes baby Sussex in her activities. :)

    5. @Anonymous at 00:11 -- I've never been pregnant either so don't personally know, but I've read other women say that it can be either the baby moving a lot (which can be uncomfortable at times, kicking ribs or organs) or the skin gets really itchy (from being stretched) and the touching is an effort to relieve the itch. Lots of women also commented that they weren't even aware they were doing it.

Even though I think it looks a bit odd when women frame the belly like that, I give her a pass because it's her first baby and I think part of it is that she is over the moon excited. The other part IMO, is I'd guess that she isn't even aware she's doing it. She is so used to being "on" when cameras are rolling or while at work (i.e. back when she was on Suits) that I think she'd be able to control awkward or random movements/expressions/body adjustments, so this makes me feel like it's completely unconscious.

    6. Anonymous^ 00:11 - I've also never been pregnant and don't know what to make of the bump cradle. It's cute though. Meghan looked radiant (love the whole ensemble, especially the shoes) made another great speech. I feel like she's the only BRF who doesn't use notes to speak? Correct me if I'm wrong! Thanks for the background on the bracelets, Charlotte!

    7. I don't think she does it for show. I am covinced she has emotional connection to the up coming baby and it had become an automatic reflex. That one photo by Getty Images in the current photo holding the baby's head and toes will be an image to be long remembered in the child's entire life what ever his/her destiny will be. It is special. I hope she will have similar image during pregnancy in a colorful cloth may be in Spring day light sunshine

Beyond that, I hope she will discontinue to make such repeated getures during public appearances. It just seems a bit too much.

    9. Having a baby, among our many personal choices, is perhaps the ultimate of innate nurturing. Caressing my baby within the womb, holding with both hands the beautiful rounded form, are certainly special ways to include my baby when I am in public; I see this as a communication with my baby.
To witness Meghan doing just that, warms my heart. It takes a strong personality to be oneself, in a culture that demands 'protocol behaviour'.
Celebrating, here in Canada, the Duchess of Sussex; she has given me a mentor of strength, in a world where 'fitting in' will not only drive one crazy but, destroys the unique jewel that is potentially each one of us.

    11. I’ve been pregnant twice, and I still cringe when I see people do that. I never did that, not only because I thought it was unnecessary and weird, but also because it does make the person look like they want people’s attention. It’s just kind of awkward, lol. I love Meghan, but I don’t like it when ANYONE touches, rubs, or cradles their stomach, lol.

      Delete
    12. I've been pregnant and I'll say that the belly touching wasn't a conscious thing. Having your belly stretch can be itchy, it can strain your muscles and when baby kicks it can poke in weird ways. Without even thinking about it I found myself absently touching or rubbing my belly to relieve some of the discomfort. Also, my body was suddenly an unexpected shape (it isn't THAT sudden, but it feels that way...) and gestures or poses that I previously unconsciously adopted didn't actually work. So if you often clasp your hands together in front of you, suddenly you're cradling a bump.

I see what you're saying -- in photos it sort of looks like a pose, and maybe in some moments it is, but I also think a lot of it isn't a conscious thing.

      Delete
    13. I am about as pregnant as Meghan and I have never put both my hands on my belly like that. Some times, in professional environments, you want to be recognized for being you, not the pregnant you. And even if the baby's kicking or something, I only put one hand only, never two. She really does this to accentuate it, I believe. Of course, maybe she did this for just 5 seconds with lots of photographs taken...

But of course, that's up to her, and she should be proud of it. It's lovely to see a belly image, as I get comments too that my belly is growing a lot.

      Delete
    14. Anonymous 00:11 I’ve never had a child either, but from speaking to expectant mothers having their hands on their tummy is due to the baby kicking and moving.

Perhaps, someone who has had children can share their thoughts.

    15. I've been pregnant three times. Putting your hands on your belly is very natural, both for physical and psychological reasons. As I spent most of my pregnancies at home (I was a stay-at-home mum) I can't remember how much I touched/cradled my "well-protected babies inside" in the public but I think I subconsciously tried not to overdo it. Not because I didn't want the other people to notice that I'm pregnant (that would have been a useless effort anyway! 😄) but because it was something rather intimate. I'm sure though that I often did it with one hand when my belly hurt or when the babies were kicking a lot - simply to relieve the discomfort (I'm now speaking about the last trimester).
I don't know - it seems to me that less might be more but it's really very personal and up to everyone's taste, personality etc.
I'd like to add one comment about DM. I often wonder: why do people read their articles and then get upset?? We all know very well what kind of articles DM brings; is there anything easier than not reading them? To me, reading them and then getting upset and complaining is a waste of time and energy. Life is short 😉

    16. The baby kicks now and then, and typicaly it is felt on the side ( may be after completion of second trimester)- / she is probably not even there yet. The head is South and the feet is North ( upper part of the body for the woman). MM holds the head from the bottom, and the feet from the top. She literaly hags the baby during engagements including during Australian tour. If she was my sister, I will make sure I get her out of the habit. I have been pregnant twice and been around families and friends different of different nationalities and background, never saw a woman cradle an unborn baby constantly at various stages like that in my entire life.

Regardless, pregnancy agrees her and she looks happy, lively and beautifuly elegant.

      Delete
    17. I too have been pregnant twice and I am totally sure I never framed my growing belly like that. It is true that your skin feels itchy and the baby’s kicks can be a little uncomfortable at times but, first of all, they happen mostly in the third trimester (before that the baby is still too small for strong kicks and the womb walls are still thick enough to “amortize” any impact), and second, you don’t need both hands to scratch or comfort the baby, you just instinctively put one hand on the one spot that feels itchy or uncomfortable, you certainly don’t need to touch both the top and the bottom of the belly at the same time for the simple reason that the baby cannot possibly be kicking in two different directions at the same time :-) I am with those who find this gesture exaggerated, pretty much a call for attention. And if you watch the video, she is doing it for almost the entire time she was on stage, it was not a 5 second thing which, again, makes me even more convinced that it was a conscious act. Lastly, I know that comparing Meghan and Kate is not necessary in many instances, but again, have you ever seen Kate strike a pose cradling her pregnant belly with both her hands?? And she is definitely one that loves her hands crossed in front of her clutching her clutch when she is not pregnant but yet she never did that in her three pregnancies- I leave you draw your own conclusions....

      Delete
    18. I’ve been pregnant three times. We all have our own ways. I think Meghan looks awkward framing her belly like that especially on stage and especially when her friend is giving a speech. It didn’t seem unconscious to me. She is standing in front of a crowd she must be aware of her actions. Dress is pretty. Love the meaningful jewelry.

    19. I've been pregnant twice and I don't get the hands on the stomach either. I'm a litigator and I would never argue in court with my hands on my stomach regardless of what my babies were doing -- I think it is unprofessional because it draws the attention to the pregnancy rather than the job I am doing. I would say the same for the DoS. I recognize that at walkabouts and other less structured engagements she may touch her stomach fleetingly and a picture may be snapped then -- that is inadvertent. This is different because she is on a stage and it is reasonable to expect her to focus on her presentation while she is on a stage.

Other than that, this is probably my favorite outfit she had ever worn and I think the dark nails are perfect for an evening event.

    20. As someone who touched my belly often and was accused of being pregnant but wasn't (I had painful tumors and cysts that caused frequent pain and made me rub my belly in comfort) I find "she's touching her belly!" so ugly. She's a woman it's her body. She's not fondling or exposing herself. This isn't the 1800's when "expecting" women were expected to stay at home forever. And plus, you don't know what's happening with her body.

      Delete
    21. She seems to do that with all her photos at the moment. Started in Oz. She's an actress so I'm sure she's aware of it. She's super gorgeous .. looks very good in dark colours. I wish the press wouldn't fuel negatives.

    22. I normally don’t mind the belly touching. I know I did it all the time. It was part unconsciously, part to loving to feel it and the baby. It’s just that one of the pictures looks too posed to me. But apart from that I say, let her touch her belly as much as she wants.
The whole look is a total win. I don’t like her style most of the times so this is a happy day for me. She looks ravishing.

    23. I just watched the video and yeah it seems odd that she's standing cradling her belly for that long. It wouldn't be as awkward looking if it was one hand- I also often rubbed my belly with one hand but that was in the last 5 or so weeks when it was getting uncomfortable- itchy. Other than that yes I did have a good rub each night before bed/ while relaxing at home/ waking up/ in the shower or bath but I found it to be intimate bonding time with my baby. In public/ while I was at work I may have had a few rubs when I felt a kick, but fleetingly and never a cradle.

I really like Meghan and think she's amazing and such an inspiration but this reminds me of the banana Instagram post ☹️

Maybe she's trying to remind the media that she's pregnant so they lay off her a bit? Trying to give them good shots of the belly so they have something else to report? I don't know but it is definitely odd- even more so (as I said above) when it comes to that Instagram picture.

    2. While the Duchess does look very happy and beautiful and has the glow that most women experience when they are expecting (and as she should have), she is not "working hard on behalf of the queen tonight". This is a personal appearance by the Duchess in support of a designer and community to which she has ties. This is definitely more social in nature than royal.

  13. The only negative comments I see here are from people bringing up the non-existent "haters" and "naysayers." It seems almost as if we are being warned against making any criticism by the Meghan fans bringing up the criticisms themselves. Isn't it possible to compliment her without automatically putting down any commenters who might disagree?
I doubt Charlotte would put up with hateful remarks or vitriol here. (it's right at the bottom in the comment policy) For that reason I don't understand the need to bring this element into the discussion other than to cause dissention or to intimidate others from giving their honest opinions.

    1. I'm assuming this was directed at me? If so, I didn't mean here, I meant generally speaking throughout the world of royal "reporters" and UK media, as well as other forums/twitter/instagram. I'd be willing to bet you $100 that we'll see lots of articles tomorrow criticizing Meghan for wearing a one-shouldered dress (as we've seen before, even though lots of other royals - including the queen - have worn one-shouldered/strapless dresses), or a black dress (again, as other royals have done), or for wearing colored nail polish, or touching her belly, or for myriad other reasons. Constructive criticism is one thing, but when she gets slammed for things that other royals get a pass on - or even praised for! - it makes me angry.

      Delete
    2. I agree inthekitchen, I've already seen the stupid hateful articles criticising her. Luckily she has shown she pays this pathetic fantasy protocol rubbish no mind and just lives her life. I really don't know what is wrong with some people.

      Delete
    3. I could not agree more. Meghan doesn't get slammed in this forum but the British press are unrelenting. My hope is that she is not reading any of it. What bothers me most is when they slam her around for touching her "baby bump". To Meghan this is not a bump, it is her BABY. The baby is moving around, kicking, sucking his/her thumb, etc. Unless the baby is sleeping, It's rolling around and moving. My favorite picture is of Meghan with her hands wrapped around the baby with a huge smile on her face.

      Delete
    4. Again, hate does not happen here. Perhaps you could save these remarks for forums that do so. It might help decrease the destructive idle chatter on those sites..Twitter, a few royal reporters, the celebrity gossip sites. If those who dislike what is going on would state their dislike and then refuse to click on those sites again--if enough did that, it might help what I hear is an epidemic of unkindness and sometimes outright lies. If you paid attention to Meghan's words both tonight and at the church memorial ( to which she wore a really plunging neckline, by the way) you will get her pleas for understanding, kindness, and acceptance.
I make my next remark as an admirer of Meghan's aspirations for future charity involvement as well as her beauty and potential value for the British monarchy and the Commonwealth. Sometimes I think she may purposefully exhibit behavior that is known to be controversial in her new environment. The word iconoclastic comes to mind. ( if that IS a word) She apparently does not wish to compromise her self-image; however, there will be consequences for doing perhaps the right thing in the wrong place. I think criticism can be kindly and well-intentioned. It doesn't need to be character assassination.

You weren't the only one here who made those remarks. I understand your frustration perfectly as I used to be called a "Kate-lover" and various other names for simply supporting her. However, it did seem as if all critical remarks about this appearance were being "headed off at the pass." Maybe I didn't agree with 100% of her stage appearance but I am a little hesitant to express any but the most glowing remarks after the "hater" and "naysayer "comments. Since every aspect of her appearance was essentially placed on the unapproved criticism list, I felt a bit muzzled.

However, since you brought the issue of criticism up..
It isn't just a single item of apparel being judged on its own. It is a matter of context. Of course other royals have worn various items. Yes, HM, Catherine, and others have worn revealing necklines for evening dress appearances; but not at a church event nor during a balcony appearance. Especially not when sitting next to the head of her new country in the front pew during a church service. Yes, other royals have crossed their legs. Princess Anne at the Braemar games. You will not see other senior royals crossing their legs above the knee or otherwise in the front row of an official portrait. I can't recall an instance, but I imagine a royal woman has touched her pregnant belly before. However, never in an official photo standing next to government officials. And not nearly continually and to the point of holding both the upper and lower portion of her pregnant abdomen as she did on stage tonight. I think she has adapted to the hosiery custom.

It is a matter of appropriateness and degree. Some items and behavior are appropriate for a BRF senior royal for certain events and circumstances that would be inappropriate in others.

Perhaps the Queen and other royals could use some up-dating. I just don't think it is a good idea for a newcomer to initiate the changes. Baby steps. Michelle knows what she is talking about.

Meanwhile, tonight was an evening event. A fashion/award ceremony to boot. Nothing wrong with black, bare-shoulder, dark-nailed --what was the other thing? But seriously, the belly fondling has to be reserved for private, at-home moments.

    5. Anonymous 23:29, the haters and naysayers are hardly "non-existent." They are everywhere and very vocal. The comments I see here regarding them are actually things I had thought of myself as fodder for those looking for something to criticize, i.e., black dress again, dark nail polish, showing some skin, etc. Never did I think it was a warning to other commenters not to criticize. This is a very civilized blog. Most of the regulars are clearly fans but I think we are all mature enough to feel comfortable commenting on or reading a comment that involves criticism of Meghan. It can actually make for a more interesting read. It's not even constructive criticism since she is hardly likely to see such comments and benefit from them. It's just our little community having a harmless diversion from life by following the fascinating life of someone we will never, ever know and few of us will ever even get to meet.

So, that being said, I love the dress and the shoes and think she looks great from head to toe. She is obviously very proud of her bump but it is very odd to cradle it like this in public. The black and white picture of her with Clare W-K and Rosamund Pike is a bit much, in my opinion. Lots of pregnant women rest a hand there but the cradling seems excessive and not very Royal. I hope that this observation will not offend anyone. I am neither a hater nor a naysayer; just a reader cringing at some pictures.

    7. @ anon 2:58 I think it’s becoming somewhat apparent that Meghan just doesn’t care. And I don’t mean that flippantly or disrespectfully. But I think she is happy and secure in her marriage and sees a lot of good work she could do in her role. And at the end of the day many of these royal rules are not truly rules but rather preferences. Meghan has one of the more unique backgrounds for a married in royal in that she has plenty of experience being in the public eye and managing her image. So I think she is fairly astute in playing the long game in how she wants to present herself and while I think she may listen to advice or suggestions And take them into consideration she is still going to make her own choice. It very much seems to me that other royals who married in are a bit awed and nervous by the grandeur of the queen and all it represents, so almost over compensate by not placing a foot wrong but I just don’t think that is Meghan’s situation.

Now Don’t misunderstand I’m sure she respects and admires the queen enormously, and does defer when needed (curtsying etc) but she just isn’t going to alter things she naturally does like nail color or leg crossing. And they are a bit silly and trivial when you think of it and I would argue don’t actually contribute all that much to the Royal family’s image and importance. I also don’t think Meghan is difficult or demanding about this, I think she just is comfortable to make her own choices and knows she has her husband’s support.

I won’t fault her belly holding. Pregnancy does a number on the body and having experienced it twice I know things like this are so subconscious. Your belly itches or the baby moves or it’s just where your hands end up while standing neutrally.

      Delete
    8. Well said 02:58. You have stated well why people can both love Meghan and not like some of ways she has conducted herself as a member of the royal family. And I agree with your perception of the embracing of her belly. Just a bit much for my taste. Having been pregnant, it is common to subconciously rub a spot that is itchy or where the baby is stretching. It is even common to rest your hand on top of your belly—it gets increasingly difficult to hold them in front of you! But I’ve not done (nor have a really seen) anyone hug their belly (hand over top and bottom) unless they are intending to show off how the baby has grown. Connecting with your growing baby is beautiful—but some actions are more private than others.

I would like to say for those in general who are saying that discussion is welcome here—I have not really found that to be true. I am more of a lurker than a commentator, and I have enjoyed following the royal family from a distance since the days of Diana and Sarah. While it is true there have been some awful attacks directed toward Meghan in the media at large, people who have commented here have not been guilty of that. Charlotte does a wonderful job not letting that kind of hate directed at Meghan come through. However, I am sad to say that I have seen people treated very poorly by other commentators on this site for expressing a dislike of something Meghan has worn or done or for having a concern for how she is adapting to her role as a duchess in the royal family—a women who represents the nation of England, not herself. I find it sad to see that reasonable criticisms or differences have been labeled as racist, mean-spirited, or told to stuff it among other things. These are not ways that allow open and free conversation, or ways that allow for different opinions or perspectives. I have seen may people who have commented for years on other sites (and with whom I do not always agree, but have always enjoyed hearing thier perspectives) try to participate here only to be shut down and run off. It is very sad to me. Maybe we can all work at listening to different opinions (and accepting that people can accept and respect Meghan without having to adore everything that she says or does) instead of “shutting down” any level of critique. Just my two cents on that issue.

    10. Without resorting to name-calling, I would like to point out that my point exactly was that hate does not exist Here BECAUSE of Charlotte's scrupulous editing. If hate is seen here it must be in the eye of the beholder because it simply is not allowed here. I can't imagine Charlotte approving a hateful comment. If it does not appear, it is therefore non-existent here. My point.

Someone above made a comment that lends itself to a useful guide in making critical comments about the behavior of BRF members in public: some consider the royal should be evaluated as how the person reflects his own self-image and others feel a British royal should be evaluated by standards of traditional BRF behavior. Some feel the royal should exhibit certain behavior whenever there is a possibility of a photograph. Others feel that private time should be private- that it is not the royal's fault if paps invade that privacy. These attitudes are behind various criticisms. Since these attitudes represent opinions that are polar-opposite to each other, there will likely be a stand-off rather than any hope of agreement.

The best we can hope for if we are to continue such discussions is to respect this dichotomy. Instead of making proving a point or discrediting another commenter the goal...share an opinion or idea. Allow the other person to make a remark without attempts to stifle further comment. If necessary, politely disagree. Politeness never allows for name calling or personal attacks on either the duchesses or fellow commenters.

In the current climate of internet communication I realise putting this in practice will be difficult at times. I enjoy a good debate. We just need to ask ourselves whether our motive is sharing our own idea or destroying another's. Some of us are more competitive than others; it will take practice and time. I have to stifle myself at times when a perfect retort comes to mind. It is a habit and a bad one. Anon 02:58

    11. While we can debate the dress and her mannerisms, let’s not overlook what Meghan has done. In the midst of a media frenzy of criticism of “ an (alleged) upidity woman of color,” she has stood tall & beautifully on a run way. She supported another strong, successful woman who befriended her. She speaks for a new “kindness” in an industry more often seen as “cruel.” By her actions, Meghan supports efforts to empower women , especially but not only women of color who are struggling.
Really so impressive how she uses her podium. Dresses and mannerisms pale before those messages.

  22. Wow, the Duchess looks radiant! I have been a long time silent reader, enjoying all the posts and comments, but this is my first time contributing. I have a theory and I would like to know what you all think. I am a big fan of Harry, Meghan, William and Kate, and all the negative press surrounding the Sussexes decision to move is very frustrating. I think we all agree that Harry and Meghan need a bigger home when they welcome their child. I believe that their choice to move to Windsor has nothing to do with feuding family members. When making the decision on when to bring their baby home too, the peace and tranquility of Windsor Park had to be appealing. I also believe that the larger picture was taken into account, and this is just the first phase of a bigger plan. I believe when Prince Charles ascends the throne, Harry and Meghan will move into Clarence House. If they were to renovate and redecorate a large apartment at KP, and then move to Clarence House, the British public would criticize them for wasting money. By moving to Frogmore Cottage now, they avoid this potential problem. What do you think?

    1. Hey Carrie!
Your theory makes sense except I think I read that frogmore needs extensive renovations before they are able to live there.
I think it's more they love Windsor and want to live where they are known to have said that they spent the early times of their relationship and fell in love.

Meghan looks gorgeous tonight, one thing though- I think maybe she shouldn't have posed for the backstage moving photo that's on Instagram, cradling her bump and well...posing.
She's making the transition to royal duchess, and I believe, trying to move away from the Hollywood label- but this is oozing actress Hollywood glam. Not that this is a bad thing in general BUT it's an opening for people to attack her as they have been already. I think the outfit, dark nails and her radiant appearance tonight would have spoken enough :) :)

Lastly I love the shoes and wish I could afford them HAHA

    2. Hey Carrie - interesting theory. I love the idea and think that would be great for Harry and Meghan...but I think Charles has long hinted that he would like to stay at Clarence House as king and open up BP to the public for more/all of the year. I'm not sure if he'd be "allowed" to do that (i.e. whether the monarch must live and work out of BP). But, if he is able to stay in CH, then obviously that would preclude Harry and Meghan from moving into CH. I think the Sussexes were offered/selected Frogmore Cottage because they have a deep attachment to Windsor. That's where Harry was christened, the engagement photos, the wedding (of course), and they said (engagement interview?) that they spent a lot of time there privately, during the courtship getting to know each other and building their relationship. So I think it just holds a special and sentimental place in their hearts. I'm about 99.9% sure that babies Sussex (yes, I think she's having twins) will be christened there as well.

My theory about 'the next phase of things' is that after H&M move to Frogmore Cottage, they will also split off their admin, PR staff and social media accounts (after all, no other royal siblings share admin/PR offices, do they?). Both brothers are now adults with families of their own. They are also both now "full-time" royals and married to women who are also "full-time" royals so it makes sense that they have dedicated staffers who can spend their full energy managing the schedules/PR/social media of each the Sussex and Cambridge couples and their families. The Cambridges and Sussexes will also have different focuses going forward, with Sussexes focused on Commonwealth countries and Cambridges focused on EU countries so their energies will also be diverging somewhat (although, of course, all four will have their UK charities and efforts as well). I do think that the Sussexes will get a larger London base (NottCott being too small), but I'm not sure exactly where. Once they (as I believe) split their admin offices off from KP, then I don't think they'd have their London base in KP. But, whether that ends up being Clarence House, I'm not sure.

So, lol, TL;DR: I'm not sure if I think they will move into Clarence House because I think Charles would prefer to stay there. But I do think they will separate (business-wise) from the Cambridges as both families move into the future.

      Delete
    3. Carrie---I agree. I think a general shift is in the works and renovating a 21-bedroom (is that right) apartment when you want to be elsewhere is just a waste of time and money.

    4. On looking again, I really love those shoes! It would have been easy to wear black, but the gold are just so decadent, in a good way.

    5. Yours is an interesting theory! But I see Harry and Meghan preferring to remain in Windsor and Charles at Clarence House with Buckingham Palace just being the working, business, official palace.

      Delete
    6. Frogmore Cottage needs big renovation too... So I do not agree your point here.

    7. Maybe, but I had thought that Charles is keen to stay on at Clarence House even after he becomes King, and that Buckingham Palace will no longer be the Monarch’s home.

That is a nice potential grand plan Carrie from So Cal. It is however a possibility that Prince Charles and Camilla might use BP as their office only (with adjacent overnight apartments) and continue living at Clarence House. It would make it easier to renovate BP and to make it open for visitors all year around, a great source of income. Not to say, Prince Harry and Meghan won't have a place in London also, when that time comes. It might even be KP, who knows..

      Delete
    9. Hi Carrie! Interesting theory about the decision of the Sussex's to move to Frogmore Cottage before moving to Clarence House. I don't think that will be happening though for a couple of reason:
      1) Clarence House is to Charles, what Windsor Castle is to the Queen, an escape from BP. In the past much has been made of Charles' desire to have BP as a workplace, not a place where he, the Monarch, will live. If that comes about I believe he'll work out of BP but live at CH.
      2) Charles might not ascend the throne for another 10+ years, with William possibly waiting another 20 years to ascend the throne. By that time George, Charlotte and Louis will be grown up, possibly with spouses/families of their own. And while it's difficult to believe now, Harry and Meghan's popularity will wane as the younger, more glamorous royals come to the forefront.

I believe that H&M will stay in Windsor, maybe not at Frogmore Cottage but at least on the estate. I don't think that this will happen due to any silly feud but because as the Cambridge children grow up Harry & Meghan will occupy a place that Edward & Sophie or Ann and Andrew now occupy, continuing with their duties but not front page news anymore.

      Delete
    10. Carrie, I believe that Frogmore needs far more work than the large apartment at Kensington Palace. After all the Duke and Duchess o Gloucester have been living at KP. Their place would not be a dump. Whereas Frogmore has been broken up into five small apartments for staff. It will cost plenty to eliminate those smaller apartments and then restore the house. As for a move to Clarence House when Charles is King. It has been said that Charles does not want to live at Buckingham Palace and use BP just for offices. If this is the case then Charles will not leave Clarence House.

      Delete
    11. It’s an interesting theory. I think Clarence House has only been used for the most senior royals, but maybe that will change.
      -Duch

      Delete
    12. This is a great theory that seems very logical. Wanting to raise your kids in the country is pretty normal (William did too), and having a London home that comes a bit later on is the progression his older brother also took. Of course - no one would ever say 'Well they'll use Clarence House later on' because to do so would be to discuss the passing of HM, and that's in such bad taste that I almost couldn't bring myself to type it there! But who else would use Clarence House if not the Sussexes? I'm sure the Cambridges aren't interested in moving house within London again, especially given all the money that was sunk into their KP apartment. And it would give the two families just a bit of space but still nice proximity when they're both in London (though I'm sure they'll both spend a lot of time out of London in their respective country homes).

      Delete
    13. I assumed that K and W would shuffle up -- Clarence House being a logical residence for the Prince of Wales, which William will become. Then maybe the Sussexes would move into KP. After all, given the longevity of the family it seems likely that William will be Prince of Wales for quite awhile, and both the Queen and Charles have lived their prior to their own ascensions. Clarence house is its own little court, not part of the bigger apartment sort of feel of Kensington, which feels like the home of lower royals. But who knows, really?

I doubt the move has anything to do with a feud. Even if there has been recent friction (which, who knows) this move was planned a long time ago. The plans were filed months ago which meant it had to have been discussed even before then. Perhaps they also want their own space if Doria comes for extended stays or even moves.

      Delete
    14. That is certainly sound reasoning with regard to the money issue, however, Charles has expressed a desire to stay on at Clarence House when he becomes King and to turn Buckingham Palace into a museum. Whether or not he caves to pressure from those who insist that the Monarch live at BP remains to be seen. Andrew, Anne, and Edward never had a splendid London home like Clarence House or KP while their mother was Queen. They have rooms in BP while in London, so who knows? The whole Frogmore Cottage move is a mystery to me. Although it is only a few miles from London, anyone who has ever driven it knows that the commute takes nearly an hour and a half. Somehow I picture Harry and Meghan preferring the hustle and bustle of the city instead of the isolation of Windsor.

      Delete
    15. Who knows if this is accurate, but I think I read Prince Charles likes Clarence House and would like to stay there when he is King. He wants the palace to be for state occasions.

      Delete
    16. I've seen the overhead shots of KP. Despite its name it's not exactly a very appealing place. It's more a large, impersonal apartment building than anything else. I can totally understand wanting to stay in the cozier Frogmore Cottage (which, by the way, is not a cottage -- it's more a mini-mansion).

      Delete
    17. I also have a suspicion that H&M might use Clarence House at some point. Yes Charles has indicated that he would prefer to stay at CH and use BP only for official functions, but so did the queen only to be told in no uncertain terms that it would not be happening. Especially in light of the extensive renovations BP needs to undergo in the next couple of years. There will be a public outcry if the taxpayer foot the bill for the renovations and then it doesn’t get used as the monarch residence.
A side note on the offices. The press office at BP handles Anne, Andrew and the Wessexes. They have their own private secretaries but it all fall under BP (and gets paid for by the Sovereign’s Grant)
The exception is the two Wales boys having their own KP office. And while I do think they will split the KP office at some point (before Charles becomes king) I am not sure the Sussexes will be setting up their own office. More likely they will hang on for now and fall under BP when Charles becomes king.

I think the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are moving to Frogmore for the same reasons the Cambridges lived in Anmer Hall when Prince George was born: it is outside of London; provides more privacy and security, and more open space for children to play. And it just dawned on me why she maybe receiving negative press. Meghan is a highly functional, adult woman who is self assured and motivated. She strikes me as someone who doesn't need handlers, only guidance. I find this refreshing, but I can see that in royal circles how this can be misconstrued as demanding and difficult. I don't think she's difficult, only that she is focused and knows what direction she wants to go with her role within the BRF. I just hope that she can surround herself with others who have that same shared vision and will allow her to be more than what has been expected of royal wives in the past. Being an independent woman can be a blessing, but it maybe a curse in the royal family, especially if you're swimming upstream.

We already knew that Meghan was an amazingly talented public speaker, and this speech really put in a nutshell what she is rising above on a daily basis. I teared up when she said "it used to be cool to be cruel, now it is cool to be kind". I know she related it back to Clare Waight Keller, but it covered so much more than that. 50. This - to me - is the epitome of a timeless look. There are enough details (the dark nail polish, the textured gold jewelry) that will identify this as a 20-teens look that stands the test of time and looks beautiful to people who look at it in 30 years. I feel like sometimes we say that someone has 'timeless' style that will never look 'out of fashion' but that's because the outfits they wear never were 'in fashion!' To me, that isn't classic and it won't be interesting in 30 years - it'll just be an unidentifiable blah dress. I REALLY love watching Meghan's fashion because she mixes trends with beautiful classic aspects in such a fascinating way. Stunning.

  52. Guys... I don't get it. Can someone please explain to me how it is possible that poor Meghan is bashed and criticized FOR EVERYTHING she does in the comments of Daily Mail? This was such an amazing event, she did so beautifully. It makes me so sad and I hope that she will never read what people write about her. It must be so hard to be in her position.

    4. Tip from a long time royal watcher - read the DM only for their pictures, they have the best and the widest variety, remember that they don’t have royal fact checkers so don’t believe what they write but above all never, ever read the DM comments.

    5. And I also think that Daily Mail attracts sertain crowd by printing more roumors than facts. Honestly, some comments over there make me question the sanity of the commentators. Who would spend so much energy and time hating a person they don't even know?

    6. So we are not to believe the Daily Mail mid-wife story? I think that outlet prints just enough favorable stories aboutH&M to keep on the good side of those who provide leaks for royal stories. If their articles were only unfavorable, the royal/palace- source well would soon dry up.

Let me see.... she is holding her belly because she wants to; because she is an excited first time mother; because a number of online commentators said she was too old to get pregnant and she is over the moon that it happened; because other commentators are happy and excited for her and want to see her belly.

I think we need to learn as human beings to be kind and stop projecting our personal preferences and prejudices onto other people.

    4. I don't see people do this often either but let's look at her. She is 37 years old. Never had a baby. Wasn't married until last year so marriage or baby were not certain in her future. She is a very warm, expressive person. All that adds up to she must be overjoyed and bursting with happiness (physically and emotionally). I was older but just a few years younger than her and you really can't believe the miracle growing inside you. The baby is probably wiggling around too. All that said... I think she should be given grace with this. Let's all just be happy for her. (or stop looking at her pictures and do something else with your time.) I'm delighted for both her and her husband!

  57. It's so hard to make judgments from pictures because you don't know what happened before the picture was taken. Regarding the picture of Meghan holding her belly, I imagine right before the picture was snapped, someone said something about her pregnancy, whether it was congratulations or whatever, prompting her to cradle the baby and the picture was taken.

Although, when I was pregnant I was constantly touching my belly, which was how I transferred poison ivy from my hands to my belly.

I think the difficulty with the belly holding poses are that it definitely comes across as a celebrity move instead of projecting elegant royalty. But this is a very minor thing and doesn't detract from the positive work she is doing. She'll be a royal for years to come and she won't be pregnant for very much of it when you take the long view!

  61. I personally hate referencing the baby as a bump, is this a British thing I wonder....because it’s not a common American saying as least not here in the south... we don’t reference the stomach at all. My parents also taught me that the word belly was rude that animals had belly’s and humans have stomachs. A common phrase where I am from is wow you’re showing! I never said anything but always hated when people referred to Kate’s bump- quite ignorant if you ask me!

    1. I live in the US Southeast too and "bump" is not a common reference for pregnancy, but I hear it used more than it once was. As a young mother myself and someone who is an Anglophile too, I will admit that I dislike some of the British descriptions/words used when discussing pregnancy, such as "heavily" pregnant or "she has fallen" pregnant. I also dislike the statement made after a royal baby is born..."She was safely delivered of a child". I understand the history/tradition and context of that statement, but the mother is the one delivering and giving birth to the baby. The work of labor is not being done for her. She is the one actively giving birth and the statement should reflect that. There is also one particular pregnancy expression here in the US that is infuriating to me and that is the reference health insurance companies make to those women who give birth at the age of 35 and older. Our pregnancies are called "geriatric or elderly". I am 36 and am currently pregnant with my third child, and that phrase "geriatric pregnancy" is on form after form. It was also used on my medical forms when I had my second child at the age of 33. There are certainly better, kinder words that could be used if that sort of label is absolutely necessary for a medical form.

      Hi Indigoisle,
I don't like the word "bump" either, but it is becoming more commonly used these days for some reason. I never discussed my "bump" when I was pregnant, rather people just referred to it as "the baby" in conversation, which is really what it is. A growing baby. It is a nice way to talk to a pregnant Mother, without underlying tones of "you're getting fat". haha.
I don't like the word "belly" either, it does sound like something that I would potentially like to eat. May I suggest using the word "abdomen" instead, as it refers to the entire anatomical region ("The body space between the thorax - chest - and the pelvis"). The word "stomach" actually pertains to the muscular organ of digestion and is located upper left in the abdominal region :-)
I don't mean to sound smart, but I get annoyed when words, names and places get muddled!!! I successfully taught my children the correct anatomical names for everything, and it really does de-mystify many things!
I hope you don't mind me saying this, no offence meant xxx

  62. It was nice to see Meghan out again and looking so happy and, of course, radiant. She is a stunning woman and pregnancy just enhances that fact. Her dress was beautiful. I can't fault her for cradling her baby, she's a first time pregnant woman and the flutters and kicks are always a pleasant surprise but a strange new feeling. I hope she doesn't get called on the carpet for the dark nail polish, it just added the right touch to black velvet and gold. Although, according to the British press she's damned if she does and if she doesn't. So I was glad to see her so happy, to see the audience loving her and to see all the rumors and trash stories have not diminished her sparkle. Can't wait to see her at Christmas time with Harry.

  65. SDR@02:07, you are on point. Next, my response to comments re negative press of the Duchess: As a former actress, the Duchess of Sussex knows how to handle negativity and flattery. One minute, you are praised and the next minute, you are torn to pieces with speculations about “any little thing” that has an angle and can be amplified. The media makes a living by selling papers and they will use whatever strategy it takes to sell papers, get online hits bcuz it is how they pay the bills. It was the Duchess of Cambridge who cautioned a lady during an engagement, “don’t believe everything you read”. Both Duchesses have had some bad press and will continue, from time to time, to experience some negative press. Even if it’s not true, the HEADINGS and SPECULATIONS draw public interest.

  66. Love, love, love Meghan's look tonight!! With this outfit, her glow and her wonderful speech she just gave the middle finger to all those who keep trying to put her down, to put her "in her place", to make her feel less than. Good on you Meg!!

  67. It seems like she is constantly holding her baby. However, after years of seeing only sour looks on Prince Beatrice, I tried some other, more friendly sites just to check and found tons of happy smiles. Meaning that if MM took that pose 5 times during the hours she was there, only those photos would be printed. I think she had a very fun time last night. She certainly deserves it, and she no doubt doesn't care who doesn't like it. I keep thinking of what Camilla said, that Meghan was a star. I believe some of the hostility in the print is because she is so intelligent and doesn't seem to need other people to function. Kate did get a lot of criticism for being Kate, and it was a big deal at the time that she was going to retain her family connections. That seems so far away now. There also were lots of fake stories about fights with Camilla. Meghan will retain all her connections in addition to her mom, which is a step further into reality.

I think the media started separating pregnant women into "the woman" and "the bump." "She dressed her bump in..." I guess I've reluctantly gotten used to it. It's likely that Meghan knows the baby's sex by now and feels very close to her daughter or son to be. And the baby moves and Meghan is trying to cuddle him/her. Very sweet and loving. A very personal thing, like holding your child's hand.

I appreciate her popping out to some event or other just when we need a new sighting!!

I'm loving the work she has embraced and happy Kate gets some of the pressure off of her shoulders at the same time. I wish we as a group would stop saying 'I love her look, but the trolls will (fill in the blanks)'. I honestly never thought a woman holding her stomach when pregnant could spark such controversy. I can see how it comes off as "hey, look at me!" but I also think it's mostly done subconsciously and/or out of joy. It is her first kid, after all.

From Audrey: I think she cradles her stomach as a way to include her baby in whatever she is doing...also let's not forget that it's reported that she's very tactile and likes to hug etc...I predict that when she has the baby she'll have a baby carrier and swaddle the baby about on her chest...now that will raise eyebrows lol

  77. Thank you Charlotte for the post. Meghan looked very glamorous and A-list. I felt far more at home at this event than some other events. It worries me that we might have a Lord Snowden situation building. He became rapidly bored with royal life returned to his photography career and we all know how that ended. I wasn’t surprised at Frogmore. After all Prince Andrew and Sarah were given a home at Windsor as well on their marriage and never had a London home. I would also have expected split staff. Prince Charles and his siblings never shared administration staff. I expect some shared projects but also the devolvement of the brothers lives. They have vastly different lives ahead of them. What I am so pleased about is that the need for a role and career path for Harry has been recognised and is developing. Prince Andrew was not so fortunate. And then a final comment on the media. They are businesses whose income in the main is derrived from advertising. The more traffic the better price for the advertising. Meghan has a massive fan base who are Meghanists rather than royalists and from the media point of view guaranteed to generate high volume site traffic so as long as that is the case I would expect the current slant to continue. Modern media is opinion based not fact based so a good saleable story will always trump fact. And we read the stories and buy the magazines and perpetuate the cycle so at the end of the day we are responsible.

  84. I love love this whole ensemble. Meghan looks lovely. Confident and poised.

As for folks who have never seen pregnant women holding their baby bump, well here is a great example. She’s clearly is happy and that happiness shows. As for the black nails, holding baby bump, family feud, hosiery or not, etc., these photos and pieces are good click bait stories. The more people take side, opine, and troll, the more $$$ these media sites get. It’s a business and it isn’t news. These so call royal reporters have to gin stories daily- hence the use of unknown, unverifiable “palace source”. (I’m old enough to remember when many of these tabloid reporters were investigated for hacking people’s private phones.). BTW, this is how Russian disinformation works.

On a happy note, my Canadian-American family is thrilled to see Meghan in the Royal Family. Except for Diana, we didn’t pay much attention to the monarchy as much of the ‘news’ was salacious gossip or dull. I watched Diana’s wedding with my mom and my daughter watched Meghan’s with me. It’s a lovely circle. (And no, that is not a diss to Kate’s wedding as my daughter was only 2 at the time). As for the Commonwealth, I think Meghan and Harry did energize interest in the monarchy again. I don’t know how sustainable or relevant the monarchy will continue to be outside the UK as much of its role depends on UK politics (Brexit) and UK’s international standing.

The world is changing quickly, the monarchy needs to be nimble and adapt to make itself relevant. We readers should do the same. To see fellow women bicker over nail polish, baby bump holding, royal protocol, or hosiery only add to the stereotype and denigration of women. We are better than this.

  85. Holding her baby/stomach so often last night and particularly when posing for a picture with another is distracting for me. No matter how many times I've gone back again and again to see the photos and videos and try to take it all in with as much objectivity and perspective as I can, I still think it is very distracting. I've seen many many women do it, including myself and royal ladies, but doing it as often as she did and during certain times is the distracting thing for me. I have not seen anyone do it that often before and so my eyes aren't used to it.

I also see nothing wrong with saying I don't like it. We say often that we don't/do like this or that however I could never agree with a personal, over-the-top seeming attack on her. That is unfair, it is cyber bullying, and it is a huge problem right now for the human race in my opinion.

I believe my issue with it is because it is just not something I'm used to seeing to that degree and frequency. Being a royal follower since 1980 I've gotten used to how the Queen, and somewhat Kate, move, behave, act, and react, sit, stand, interact, etc so when someone does it differently than what I'm used to seeing it takes some getting used to by me.

Meghan is clearly choosing to change some things about herself (clothing, manners, body movement, deference, keeping opinions quite in order to support British royalty and honor their ways) but she seems unwilling to change everything. She is a great example of strength and poise in this way and considering she is nowhere close to the "top job" she does have more leeway to be herself.

There are consequences to every choice and I think there will be some good and some bad. For instance, the consequence of not "behaving" as the Queen would or Kate to some degree sort of takes the magic out of royalty for me. I don't follow celebrities at all but I follow the royal family (mainly the Queen) because they do behave so differently than what I am used to seeing - almost unnaturally but that is part of my draw to them personally I believe. So, when a "senior royal" moves differently, dresses differently, etc it may turn some away. I say, just don't look then. Lol.

Just because I feel this way, just because this happens to be my feelings right now about last night, doesn't mean Meghan is wrong or that I should get my knickers bunched up about it. Which brings me to one of the good consequences of her choice to hold her baby/stomach so very often last night, she is being herself which is a vital example that so many women don't have. In addition, it occurred to me that considering how passionate she is about helping women in countries where they are shamed for even menstruating what a wonderful beacon she was last night in showing the world to never be ashamed for being pregnant. While I assume most who will read this are from countries who no longer shame pregnancy there are many many places that still do. If her image holding her baby/stomach makes it to some of these places think of the positive message it sends about being pregnant.

What I tell myself is "listen, Sarah, she may distract you sometimes because she isn't what you're used to seeing behavior-wise, etc but enjoy her differences and take inspiration from her strength. You want "traditional ways" from your royals? You've still got the Queen and Camilla to go to for that. Enjoy Meghan for exactly who she is and take that lesson into your own life." Yes, I have conversatiins with myself....lol :) ❤

FLORIDA GIRL! Thank you for saying EXACTLY what my current thoughts about Meghan are in every single one of your paragraphs!! To clarify, I've been a devoted Meghan supporter since the beginning (since news of the engagement). I've been a Kate supporter since her engagement...I still remember reading about it whilst on vacation in Cabo in 2010 lol. I really do admire both duchesses.

But ever since the tour down under...Meghan's made me pause and go hmmmm and question what's behind the actions. Like you said Florida Girl, it's not bad, she's not wrong, nothing offensive. Just wondering if it's for attention? It's...jarring? I'm a pretty un-jarrable person ha. But like your last paragraph says, I think I just need to realize that Meghan's different from the traditional members of the royals.

Anyway, THANK YOU again for articulating my thoughts about the past few weeks. Now I can sleep at night ;-)

  88. I was reading an article at DailyMail where a midwive explained that holding and stroking the bump is fortunate for the baby and mum. It calms down and this helps especially under stress, in noisy and exciting situations as the Award ceremony has been. So Meghan is just doing the best for her baby and herself! It has nothing to do with showing of the bump. It is protecting the health of her baby.

  90. The noise during their public walkabouts and other events is substantial and it is claimed that the baby is soothed during such times by being touched. Now that I know the reason behind the cradling, I'll just keep thinking how lucky that baby is. :)

I know this is a job/position but it's not worth changing a person to be something she isn't beyond the usual changes like having to wear a hat.

  91. And I wonder now, after reading the news article with the midwife's explanation, and Meghan cradling top and bottom if she is having twins. Wouldn't that be something! I'm also hoping that we see her attending the Queen's Christmas luncheon. I'm sure the unannounced appearances make it harder for Charlotte to keep up with I am liking this nice almost daily surprise of seeing Meghan somewhere being a poised, confident, strong, and happy young woman. 92. As always, Meghan looked lovely in her gown. As a fan of jewelry myself, I always hope she wears more statement earrings, while still maintaining her simplistic and elegant style.

Question: Did I miss the royal tour poll of favorite outfits? Are you planning to do a recap with a poll?

  93. I just saw a really sweet video on twitter which shows that Meghan was touching her bump as a reaction to the baby kicking. Hopefully this link works: pic.twitter.com/6LdcJjvpJU

  94. She looks absolutely lovely. However she cradles her stomach is perfectly fine. This is her first pregnancy so everything is new and unknown. My first pregnancy was with twins and I'm 5'2". I was usually chasing one out of my ribs while chasing the other off my bladder. She has expanding ligaments and muscles that will give her a "hello" to let her know they are stretching as well as feet and hands poking out. A little rubbing gets the appendage back in a suitable and comfortable place but that comes with experience. I was much more prepared when my daughter was born. Give her time. None of us were experts the first time.

This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
