Meghan Meets Minnie During First Official Visit to Patronage Mayhew

The Duchess of Sussex made her first official visit to patronage Mayhew this afternoon to meet with staff, volunteers and beneficiaries, and hear more about the animal welfare charity’s various initiatives, from community engagement to international projects.

Mayhew is a grassroots charity working tirelessly to improve the lives of animals both in London and internationally. Mayhew looks for innovative ways to reduce the number of animals in need through pro-active community and educational initiatives and preventative veterinary care. This includes working with homeless charities across London to ensure people and their dogs can be kept together; running a pet refuge programme to provide shelter and care for the pets of people in crisis for short periods of time; and educating young people about animal welfare and the importance of responsible pet ownership. Internationally, Mayhew works with governments, local communities and charitable groups in Afghanistan, Georgia, Russia and India to help improve animal welfare.

In 2018, Mayhew handled over 1,000 welfare cases, rehomed 98 dogs and 380 cats. They vaccinate over 32,000 dogs against rabies overseas to name just a few of their achievements. Kensington Palace noted: "The Duchess has long understood the connection between animals and community welfare, and has supported various animal rescue centres in Los Angeles."

During her time in Canada, she adopted two dogs. Meghan discovered the charity last autumn, and following two private visits, she chose Mayhew as one of her first patronages.

There was quite a funny moment when Meghan walked in and one lady jokingly said "You're a fat lady now". Meghan laughed and said "I'll take it".

Established in 1886, Mayhew offers a plethora of services including preventative veterinary care.

Meghan spent time with Wully, a formerly homeless Pet Refuge service user, and his two dogs Azzy and Gallis. Mayhew officers assisted Wully during a difficult time. Wully told Meghan his pets are his babies. She replied: "That I understand".

The concept of the animal welfare office was started by Mayhew.

Caroline Yates, CEO of Mayhew said: “We are so excited that HRH The Duchess of Sussex has chosen to be our Patron. Mayhew works to improve the lives of dogs, cats and the people in our community, tackling the root cause of animal abandonment and neglect and supporting vulnerable people to stay with their companion pets. The Duchess has spent many years championing animal welfare, and we are honoured to have our charity represented by such a passionate Patron. We look forward to working closely with The Duchess and hope that, together, we can help even more animals and people.”

Omid Scobie reports:

“She had read something about our community outreach work and that resonated with her and she got in touch,” CEO Caroline Yates tells BAZAAR.com. “[Animals] are a very important part of her life. She’s a natural.”

Meghan met former Mayhew resident Maggie with her new owner Emma. The Jack Russell was rescued from a puppy farm last October.

Meghan chatted with volunteer Claire Godwin, and Roobarb. Mayhew’s TheraPaws animal therapy programme works to improve wellbeing in their local community.

A Jack Russell named Minnie stole Meghan's heart.

There's some great footage of the meeting below.

Omid Scobie reports: "CEO Caroline Yates tells me that Meghan was “quite taken” by a little Jack Russel called Minnie: “She asked about Mini’s story, what she’s like and if she’s up for adoption? And she is!"

Like so many animals, Minnie is looking for her forever home. She is a "shy and sensitive" girl who can be timid around strangers (although like the Queen's corgis she seemed quite at home with Meghan). It's heartbreaking to read the reason Minnie is with Mayhew is "No longer wanted".  Without organisations like this, it's devastating to think Minnie could be homeless right now. For those considering getting a pet, please, please, consider adopting. I promise you won't regret it.

More from the Mail Online:

'Speaking to Femail, Mayhew revealed  that Meghan was immediately drawn to her when she entered the room.'When the duchess entered the room she was immediately taken by how sweet and small she is and drawn to her,' they said. We only put her on the website today but since her appearance with Meghan we've had endless calls about her so we don't expect her to be around for much longer', they added. It's a double-edged sword as she's so popular with staff but we're also keen to help her find a happy home'. Minnie is looking for a quiet home where she will be the only pet and will need plenty of attention as well as a daily one-hour off-lead walk.'

If you would like to donate or support Mayhew please click here. Just £5 feeds a dog or a cat for a day. As an animal lover, it is just outstanding to see the incredible work they are doing.

The Duchess opted for a beige ensemble for the visit. Meghan sported her Emporio Armani Cashmere Double Cloth Coat with Classic Lapels. Readers will recall she wore the piece in Sussex last October.

The sold out piece is described as: "A quintessential piece of outerwear, this timeless coat is perfect for completing your season's look with casual elegance. Made from cashmere double cloth, the garment features a classic collar, three-button fastening and flap pockets."

Meghan wore the £25 H&M MAMA Fine-Knit dress. The maternity piece features a stand-up collar, long sleeves and gathered seams for an improved fit. The dress comes in fine-knit viscose fabric with a brushed finish.

Meghan carried the $1,145 Stella McCartney Falabella tote bag.

Meghan's shoes are by Paul Andrew.

UFO No More received confirmation they are the Coquette style in camel. They are described as "a modern slingback in luxurious suede".

Meghan's Fashion notes the Duchess accessorised with her Kismet by Milka bracelet.

Later this evening, Harry and Meghan will attend the premiere of TOTEM - Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall in support of Sentebale.

Two days in a row , not wearing black! I’m pleased. She looks so beautiful.

  3. Oooh, a whole outfit of pale neutrals! I adore it. Light colours look fantastic against her skintone, she pulls them off so well. Not the most animal-friendly outfit though...but I suppose she's not going to be actively playing with dogs on this visit.

  9. I was thinking of Meghan playing with the animals but realized that she can't roll around on the floor right now. I'm finding it hard to remember when she was thin. She looks uncomfortable -- but gorgeous. I'm looking forward to reading more but am absorbed with the fascinating images on the DoC site. I don't know about Charlotte, but wish the two ladies would pick different days. :)

I, too, wish the duchesses' engagements weren't on the same day. To me, it detracts from each other's work.

I still think Meghan is thin, even pregnant.

      Delete
    2. You are so right -- she's a pregnant thin woman. Which is why she seems a bit larger than 6 months, although she is short-waisted. But I know she eats in a very healthy manner and does yoga, so she is still in perfect shape.

      Delete
    3. I actually don't mind the three duchesses (Camilla worked today too, I believe!) working on the same day. They all four - Cambridges and Sussexes - need to be working more (IMO), so I'm fine if their engagements end up overlapping. I don't think Charles, Anne, Andrew, or Edward worry about not working when one of their siblings is working, so I'd like to see Meghan and Kate just out there working...if the days happen to overlap that's okay with me.

I'm also hoping that the Sussexes separate their admin/PR offices from KP, so KP can be solely dedicated to the Cambridges and the Sussexes can have their own staff solely dedicated to them. Again, just like Charles and his siblings have their own admin staffers and PR.

    2. I wear hose or tights to stay a bit warmer in the winter. Also I have very very pale skin so in winter my pasty white legs in the cold do not look so good.

      Delete
    3. Anon 17:06, Hope you are being funny. I posted above as I said I wear hose to stay warmer, and because my very pale skin gets blotchy and very dry looking in the cold and that is not a good look no matter what your age. I also go bare legged in warmer weather and when I have some color to my legs:)

    4. no, it's old! :)...it's o.k. for you to embrace this aging piece of clothing...

This school of thought is outdated and classist.

      Delete
    6. I grew up thinking you HAD to wear hose with dresses/skirts and perhaps even with pants. I couldn't believe that Meghan wore high heels without hose; my friend and I wore a dress and hose just to take the subway from Brooklyn to Manhattan ("the city")!

But we have bare arms. It makes sense that you can have bare legs especially if they look good. I think we just have to reset our thinking.

      Delete
    7. I agree that hose aren't necessarily old-ladyish, they can look nice. Maybe she is running warm with pregnancy. The heat your body generates can be stifling. That being said if wearing or not wearing hose is sign of class, breeding or sophistication Anon 17:06 it seems like you're implying Meghan has none of those which is not kind.

      Heidi

    8. If you don't like house, you obviously live in a warmer climate. I live in Michigan. Going barelegged in the winter isn't an option.

      Delete
    9. I for one wish she would wear hose because it makes legs looks better IMO and every dress fit better with them. No need to call us who like hose hold fashioned it a matter of taste and personal feelings.

    10. So, because Meghan made the personal choice not to wear tights, all of us who do are suddenly old, old-fashioned and classist? I wouldn't imagine going to work in winter bare legs. And I have been told repeatedly that you had to wear tights on formal occasions, ranging from passing an exam to going to a wedding. Don't you people have rules too? Wearing a splendid dress on your prom, or a suit to work? I mean, would it be possible to have a conversation on a subject where we can come with our experience and opinion and not being discarted and shut down because it is not what Meghan is doing? Heidi, when someone says wearing hose is sign of class, breeding or sophistication, it is just stating that, not passing a judgement on Meghan. I hope you think Meghan has those attributes of class and sophistication in spite of not wearing thights, because she is not reduced to her legs. It is not a service to Meghan or to respectful conversation if when she doesn't follow a rule people start arguing that rule doesn't exist or is old-fashioned, classist or worse. Also, why can't it be understood that the person stating a rule doesn't do it just to contradict Meghan.
I'll just add, speaking of old-fashioned and classist, how about the very existence of the RF?

      Delete
    11. H, YES!!! I totally agree with you.
Can we just praise Meghan's choice without offend every other woman who prefers to act in a different way? That's what feminism is, after all.

I don’t care for the dress and coat together. Sometimes to me, the effortless thing almost looks lazy. Or maybe I am not so very chic?

  12. This is a look I can get behind, love it. I can only imagine how her back feels after wearing those heels (even after a short period of time) if she is six months along. I had a baby recently and started wearing lower heels and flats around the six month mark because of how my center of gravity shifted.

Just speculating, but I wonder if she is running warm while pregnant...that plus general comfort might explain the lack of tights.

    1. Hi Beth, I wondered the same thing about running warm while pregnant. I was pregnant in the winter x3 in Atlanta and I wore tights all the time. I hate to be cold (from NYC) and tights kept me warm when I wore dresses. London's weather is closer to NY and I know its cold there now. Maybe since she just gets in a car and then straight into the location there is not a lot of outside time. If she had to wait for a bus or subway or do any outside walking, you best believe girlfriend would be wearing tights :)

  16. Just finished reading Duchess Kate blog, and seeing both Duchesses outfits for the same day brought a smile to my face. Kate, blazing color, above the knee, buttoned up, black tights, high heels, no coat. Meghan, symphony of neutral, no tights, high heels, above the knee dress, coat unbuttoned. So the things in common were both wore their hair loose, and above the knee hemlines, heels, and handbags with handles. And they both looked absolutely gorgeous and quintessentially in their own styles. Also, an interesting contrast to the day they both appeared in the same colour palette. So fun when they have events on the same day, or together.

  18. Colour is lovely but I am just not so keen on the look. I do not think the neck of dress is very flattering because of that it does not really work with the coat. I do like the shorter look.

  19. I thought she will wear something casual but then I realized this is not a romping on the floor with doggies visit. She is visiting for the first time as an official Patron. It's essentially an introduction of this organization to the world/MEDIA. It's about getting snippets of informations through her conversations about the organization that the press can write about in order to promote the charity. There were no activities to play with the pets. In fact it seemed to be mostly meeting ppl and chatting. Her business like attire is entirely appropriate for the visit. I love her coat! Her 25 pounds dress looks comfortable atleast. Hopefully she comes back soon and do some activities with the doggies. Although I can imagine it'll be hard to romp around with dogs once further along.

This engagement brings tears to my eyes. Oh, all the puppies! I have a rescue pug and wouldn't want it any other way. I so love organizations that recognize the importance of animals' lives. They deserve love and good homes, too.

I love this double cream ensemble and how well it works with Meghan's skin tone! Just gorgeous. Classic, simple, and elegant. It is a bit dressy to visit an animal shelter, but as some have already mentioned, I suppose she can't get down and really play with all the animals while pregnant. I think this look works.

I honestly think that comment about her being a fat lady now could be construed the wrong way. I know it was said playfully, but it also seems kind of mean, although I don't think she intended it that way at all. I'm just surprised she said it.

I don't know how Meghan continues to wear heels in her condition, but she's constantly glowing! I need to visit her facialist LOL

  24. Monochromatic dressing at it's best! She looks classic and cozy. Maybe on another visit we'll get to see her more dressed down and playing with the animals, but being heavily pregnant I'm guessing it was better to keep it more "business" this time. I think it was a smart choice for her to wear beige because it hides any shedding from the light-colored dog she was holding. So happy she chose to be a patron for Mayhew. You can tell she really cares about animals and they love her back.

    1. Honestly, she looks about as far along as I was at 6 months. She is petite and short waisted so the baby has nowhere to go but OUT. People were constantly thinking I was due any day at 6 months / having twins / having a huge baby and you know what? Both my kids were perfectly average size! In contrast, the Duchess of Cambridge is tall and has a very long torso so she didn’t show as much. She could still be fibbing about when in April, but I don’t think she is going to have a massive baby / give birth too much earlier.

      Delete
    2. Long torso and short waisted mean comparatively (compared to the rest of one's body) long or short from shoulder to waist. Last I heard, a baby is not carried in the chest area. The size that counts is the pelvic area and width of pelvis. Meghan has always seemed straight-waisted and broad-hipped to me, giving her a sort of rectangular or boxy look. This is the look most runway models have. It shows off clothes. The hour-glass figure is not seen that often, except maybe in Victoria's Secret shows. ;) Kate, on the other hand, is rather narrow in her pelvic area with a slim waist and broad shoulders. In her sixth month into her seventh on the Scandinavian tour with Louis she was able to completely button her coats. On her final day she was at a ski resort in a parka that was tightly closed. She did not even look pregnant. However, when she wore that gorgeous gown and was escorted by the King of Norway, Kate looked much larger. I still think intermittent use of shape-wear, style of clothing, as well as changes in position of the baby account for this. Meghan keeps her hands on her belly a lot, which prompts movement from the baby.
I was one who was convinced that Kate was due in March or having twins. And we know how that turned out. Still..I am surprised every time I see a new photo of Meghan.

      Delete
    3. Anon 4:23 - you are correct in your definition of the term "short-waisted" as being a measurement from shoulder to waist. But fail to grasp that as a consequence, the entire torso is shortened. Those of us who are short-waisted tend to carry our babies out & in front.

      Delete
    4. Anon 4:23--how are you defining "torso?"
Women who are short from shoulder to waist are not always also small in the pelvis--including both the width and length measures most OBs take to estimate possible delivery complications. Actually, frequently just the opposite. Those who are SW and carry babies out front are likely also comparatively narrow in the pelvis. The fetus goes out due to a narrow pelvic area not due to a shortened thoracic cavity . My point was that Meghan is not really narrow in the pelvic area and short-waistedness has nothing to do with size/ appearance of the abdomen. If she is larger than average it is not due to her short-waist but some other circumstance.
I aced Anatomy and Physiology and have had thirty years in the medical field, including OB experience. I don't believe I "failed to grasp" anything.

    3. I should say no. Meghan stays very fit and thin since the beginning of her pregnancy. Crown princess Mary was very fit too while pregnant with the twins but far less agile.

I am so excited to see the Duchess of Sussex shine a spotlight on animal welfare. Mayhew looks like a wonderful organization that already has a strong history of making a very significant impact in their community. Meghan's support will only further that reach. I have two rescue dogs and, as you said Charlotte, have never regretted adding them to our family. She looks so lovely in this color palette. As her first official visit after announcing the patronage, I have a feeling she wanted to keep the look professional (kudos for her ability to maneuver in high heels to pet and hold animals). Can't wait to see what fun events come up with Mayhew in the future. Dog wash or pet parade anyone? I'd love to see an appearance with Guy.

  32. Not a fan of this overall look, but I like the pieces individually. The charity, Mayhew, sounds like it does amazing and important work, I'm so glad Meghan is highlighting animal welfare.

  33. Another worthy cause from our duchesses. I have recently discovered pets (my parents had allergies) and it's just amazing how much they give back. I second Charlotte's appeal, if you are thinking about pets - please, please consider adopting from a shelter. It is incredibly rewarding. The male cat we have now is helping me at a rather challenging time just by being here, in such an unexpected way.

The duchess looks lovely. Stylish and fashionable at the same time - not always the easiest feat to accomplish. And beyond anything else, carrying and so genuine. It's always heartwarming to see how she looks so happy. Like I said before, she is one amazing woman. Harry is one lucky man.

However, does anyone else take offence to the comment about her being a "fat lady?." When I was pregnant I received a couple of comments to that effect (one man jokingly asked if I had eaten too many cheeseburgers!) and I found it so upsetting and belittling. She shouldn't be body-shamed, even if it was intended as a joke. She reacted beautifully but I am seething on her behalf.

    1. I don't think people think....Hopefully this woman is given the chance to say she didn't mean fat in the sense we are taking it, but she looks very pregnant. 2. Yes, I was also really taken aback by it. People seem to say the strangest things to pregnant women. No idea why it seems to be an open invitation for people to say things they normally wouldn't, but unfortunately, this comment and your experiences aren't the first I've heard of.

      Delete
    3. I doubt she took offense. You can't be that sensitive if you choose a career in the public. I personally wouldn't be offended by any of those pregnant jokes. I don't consider it body-shaming but just a friendly joke & small talk.. No need to get offended and react to others small, unintentional comments when there is so much else to accomplish in life. It helps me to try to look at what the intention is and refrain from being offended as much as possible especially if there was no offense intended. The saying "it is the glory of a man to overlook a matter" helps me too:) It also helps knowing that she looks fabulous! What a glamorous pregnant woman she is! I have to say I never looked that good. I always opted for comfortable (& I'm sure frumpy) clothes;)

    4. Maggie - Minneapolis16 January 2019 at 22:56

It's only body shaming if you think being fat is something bad. I have many friends who most would consider overweight who call themselves fat as simply a statement of their body weight, but without meaning it in a bad way.
And I think it's fairly clear the woman who called Meghan a fat lady clearly did not mean it in a bad way. In many cultures, being called a fat lady during pregnancy is a big compliment. Its meant to indicate they think someone looks to be having a wonderfully healthy pregnancy. And that's exactly how I interpreted this particular lady who said it to Meghan. Like a "look how much your baby is thriving while growing inside you!" kind of thing.

      Delete
    5. Maggie - Minneapolis16 January 2019 at 23:05

      P. S. The lady in question is from Jamaica (which was my hunch based on her accent), where it (the fat lady comment) is definitely not meant in the same way as Britain or the US for ex. I wish people (including me) would more often consider the possibility of other cultures thinking of things differently or doing things differently before getting offended by something that someone from another country or culture has done or said. It would solve, or avoid, a lot of problems in this world.

      Delete
    6. Please see Maggie's comments. This is definitely a compliment. I believe the woman is from an African country actually (but not sure) and she is basically stating that Meghan looks healthy and her baby (size) looks big and healthy - wonderful things!

Maggie - I also appreciate your comment about consideration for cultural differences. Thank you for saying that and for saying it's something you will try to be more conscious of this for yourself. xo

    8. Ever hear of "when in Rome," Maggie? I think it is up to the new comer to adapt to the new culture, not the culture to adapt to the new-comer. The remark was inappropriate and out of place, but understandable.

      Delete
    9. Yeah Maggie!

      Delete
    10. Good point about the cultural differences - that is something I hadn't thought of. But I also think it's important to consider intent vs. impact. While this person may have had the very best intentions, the impact could be hurtful (as it was for me when I was pregnant). Meghan is having a very public pregnancy and her grace in this moment shows how well she's doing in her new role.

    11. The comment was intended as a compliment from the older West Indian lady. I was in Jamaica during my first pregnancy and although 7 months I wasn't showing much. All the older ladies who asked about my pregnancy kept giving me tips on what to eat to become a fat pregnant lady which meant that the baby would be healthy. Also when people would make comments about my pregnant belly I used to quip that my mother told me not to swallow the watermelon seeds but I didn't listen! For those who may not understand, when we were kids our parents used to tell us boys and girls not to swallow the seeds or the watermelon would grow in your tummy.

  36. This outfit is perfect, modern but elegant, simple but impressive...but I must say that im my opinion it really isn't the best option for visiting animal shelter on a rainy day in January...she looks splendid though!
Bonus points from me for the amazing and affordable dress and a repeat. Also, just when O was getting really frustrated about Meghan managing everything so effortlessly and smoothly, she admits they are too busy to take a rescue dog - she is human after all, thank god! ;)

  37. Three Duchess events in one day! Those of us who have been following Kate since her marriage probably remember the loooong period when we saw Kate once every three weeks or so, and that was it. I love having more opportunities to enjoy my little hobby since Meghan arrived on the scene.

This look is a bit too formal for the event for me, and not one I could wear to any of my professional meetings without getting a lotttt of side eye from colleagues. But she is seriously stunning and I appreciate the glamour she brings even when she's in a casual setting. If it were me I'd definitely be in nice trousers and flat shoes, I honestly don't know how she manages to crouch and walk in those heels while quite pregnant.

    1. Apparently, according to Omid Scobie's reporting, this isn't her first visit to Mayhew. It is her first formal visit. It's more promotional so it would make sense to me that she should dress up since it's for public launch rather than private meetings.

  38. Worthy cause and organization. It's great for Meghan to be a patron of an organization with a mission close to her heart. I think she looks really lovely. The different neutrals look great together and I love that she wore such an affordable dress and a repeat coat.

I'm a little shocked and put off that someone told her she was a "fat lady" now. Even if it was a joke, it's incredibly poor taste and I hope the woman who made the joke is ashamed of herself. The duchess handled it well.

    1. unbelievable someone would say that...her come back was perfect and shut the woman down, but I don't get it. Pregnant women aren't fat..they're pregnant.

    2. Agree so much. It’s extremely rude to call anyone fat, so why would it be ok to call someone that just because they’re pregnant? I’m amazed at the things people think they can say to pregnant women. Also Meghan looks so great and healthy and simply pregnant, nothing else.

I was shocked by that, too! I know she probably didn't mean anything by it, but it's just one of those jokes that doesn't land well.

It wasn't a joke or an insult--the woman meant it as a compliment--and Meghan knew that.

In the woman’sworld Possibly a fat woman is a beautifull woman (some African tribes make little girl drink a lot of camel milk, which is very fat , so the girls become fat Hen grown up , a fat woman beeing’ th eutmost of beauty) , or , more probably , this is the gentle and’ traditional nick word for’ pregnant . I am quite sure this lady did not mean beeing’ rude !!!

I read on Chris Ship's (from ITV Royals) post that it actually was a compliment...in her culture, it's considered to mean that she looks healthy and is carrying a healthy baby.

      Delete
    7. It wasn't a joke, it was a compliment and Meghan knew that. Imagine how this woman must feel with people telling her she should be ashamed. She knows it was meant as a compliment but I can imagine all the finger wagging she must be enduring for calling Meghan a fat lady. Come on people lighten up it's not that serious because if Meghan was indeed a fat person, no one would dare say it to her face.

  39. I want to like this look, but I really dislike this dress. It just looks cheap almost. Meghan looks nice and everything looks good on her, but I just wish the dress looked like it was better quality. I get that she wanted to wear something that wouldn’t be costly and potentially messed up by the animals, but if that was a concern, then why not go for something more dog friendly than an all cream outfit with stilettos.
    On to the charity...
I am a big softy for animals. I am glad she’s working with an animal rescue charity. It breaks my heart when animals are abandoned, and I’m not gonna lie, I held a grudge against her for a while because she left one of her dogs behind. But I know that we’ve been told he is with a good family, so he wasn’t abandoned. It just hurts my heart when animals are given away like goods. That’s my own personal thing and I know not everyone feels that way. I hope to see good things come from her patronage here. More funds and more awareness for sure can only be a good thing.

    1. Anon23, if you want a heartbreaking and heartwarming pet-lovng docu series to watch, I HIGHLY recommend Netflix's "Dogs" and particularly the second episode "Bravo Zeus" which documents the efforts of Syrian refugee to get his beloved Siberian husky out of Syria. It absolutely will bring tears to your eyes.

As for this outfit, eep, not a fan. Too much cream, and (dare I say it?) too dolled up for a visit to an animal rescue charity? Everyone who knows anything about puppies know that they are angels, but very muddy and their affection can be overwhelming! This would have been a good time for sneakers/jeans/maternity sweater. But it's great that she's highlighting animal welfare. Dogs and cats are precious creatures and they are NOT expendable!

  42. I know that many find it fun to speculate about Meghan's due date and "bump size", even after she clearly and voluntarily said that the baby is due in late April or early May. But,I would hope that the speculation and bump size commentary can cease. I am so weary of it, particularly as it is not fair to any woman. Every woman's body and height is different and every woman who is pregnant will carry differently because of that. The size of the baby "bump" does not provide an adequate or accurate idea of when a baby is due. Like Meghan, I have a short torso and long legs (and I am short in height), so I carried my first child similarly (but not identically, because my body is different from hers) to how she is carrying. It makes perfect sense that she is 6 months along. I am personally taking her at her word about the due date, especially as she was happy and unreservedly willing to share that information. I see no reason to doubt her or assume that it is a decoy date. The baby will come when it is ready to come and my hope is that she and her baby are healthy and well during these final months. (And Harry too.) I hope that everyone can just enjoy the excitement of Harry and Meghan's impending parenthood and the work and engagements they will be doing.

I am with you on that point , Sarah from NC , no interest to speculate (although I think it is by sheer simpathy this is done) , we just enjoy to watch Meghan and her growing baby bump , and I do hope she can be spared the turmoil Catherine had to stand each time she had a baby ....

  43. She seems really really big for 6 months on such a diminutive body. I was trying to remember 6 months pregnant with my three but I blocked it.

  44. I love the look!! Much better than yesterday. I appreciated the color of yesterday, but the dress being non maternity did not fit her right on top and it was not my favorite color match.
This looks gorgeous just gorgeous. And I love the coat over the dress so that it’s not too body conscious. I love the palette.

The H&M dress she wore to Mayhew IS a maternity dress.

She should wear tights. It's too casual without them and just looks unfinished. She still looks great though. And we got our gorgeous Rottweiler from the Mayhew! We've had her almost 6 years and she is the most wonderful, calm, affectionate fur baby ever. We had our autistic daughter living with us then and they matched us perfectly to our beautiful dog. I'd never get a pet from a breeder, always a rescue. So happy about this patronage, I hope the Duchess brings the Mayhew every success.

  46. You go Meghan! Classic (her coat), Modern (her bodycon dress), Sexy (those heels).

I like the all beige for this event. I'm guessing she's thinking I'm going to want to pet all the dogs and they are going to leave behind a little dog hair. Works well.

What a sweet charity. She can really bond with HM over her experiences here. Love it!

    1. Forgot to mention how much I love the purse. Of all of Meghan's purses, this is the one I wish I owned - just really dig the style.

  47. Love the shape of the purse, and it looks like it could hold quite a bit, not that Meghan needs to worry about such things anymore. Serious envy for the Armani coat. Hope we see it more times. The length and style of the coat would look wonderful with trousers as well.
Hope Minnie is adopted soon. Notice that they want to home her to someone who will be able to devote their total attention to her.

  49. I love that Meghan has chosen this charity, it is so worthy and relatable to everyone.
Outfit wise, not really loving it. The dress and shoes are not working. The dress looks a bit tight and Sorry to say cheap. Maybe if she had worn thick black tights and boots, it would have looked better but the shoes are too smart and formal. Sinead

    1. I was trying to think of what would have looked better than the slingback and I thought wine color or hunter green colored tights with a beautiful oxblood colored boot. I love colored tights so much and I feel they can elevate an outfit and make it relatable because really, who wears slingback with no stockings when it is cold out unless you are getting in and out of a car with no worries about the weather.

  52. I just watched the video with the "fat" remark and listened to the whole conversation. I think the lady's "fat" comment was meant as a compliment to the blessing of expecting a baby. The comment was accompanied with the word "now," that after her wedding she is now going to be blessed with a child. The comment prior to that was her wish for blessings on Meghan. It seems to me Meghan understood the context with her reply. I thought it was a rather lovely moment, and Meghan's laughter certainly seemed spontaneous!
Thanks for the lovely coverage, Charlotte. What a busy day covering events from morning to night!

  53. I feel very sorry for the Jamaican woman who made the "fat" comment because I'm sure it was a friendly gesture and if it hadn't been recorded, it would be forgotten quickly.

And Sarah, no one would discuss Meghan's pregnancy if here as any chance of her knowing about it. :) Think of us as friendly cousins.
