Meghan Takes to the Stage to Present at the Endeavour Fund Awards!

For their first joint evening engagement Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the annual Endeavour Fund Awards at Goldsmiths' Hall.

The couple joined guests and nominees to celebrate the achievements of wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who have taken part in remarkable sporting and adventure challenges over the last year.

A video of the couple arriving.

Camera flashes abound as the couple enter the hall.

In 2012, fuelled by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry’s passion for supporting the recovery of wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, the Royal Foundation created the Endeavour Fund. The Fund offers seed funding for sporting and adventure challenges and helps emerging initiatives with advice, hands-on support and mentoring. The fund plays an important role in ensuring that more servicemen and women have the opportunity to rediscover their self-belief and fighting spirit through physical challenges. It aims to help those that are hard to reach and to support activities that contribute to the participants’ recoveries – either through mentorship, qualifications or work opportunities.

Prince Harry and Ms Markle first attended a pre-ceremony reception where they met the inspiring nominees, as well as endeavour participants and key supporters of the Endeavour Fund.

Chatting with guests.

This video contains several clips from the reception.

Since its launch in 2012, the Endeavour Fund has supported 66 different projects that have directly assisted over 2,265 WIS. Through their own fundraising, these endeavours have collectively raised over £2.5million for other forces charities across the sector.

In the video below, Endeavour Fund alumni discuss what the chance to take part in Endeavour's work meant to them, and their recovery from being wounded, injured or sick. One competitor described competing in Harry's Invictus Games as "the best week of my life".

It's very much a case of Harry introducing Meghan to an organisation very close to his heart which he has been a part of from the very beginning. As Patron of the Fund, Harry has launched a series of programmes and events in their support. In November 2013, Prince Harry joined one of three teams of wounded servicemen and women to trek to the geographic South Pole for the Walking with the Wounded South Pole Allied Challenge. Last year, Harry and William launched the inaugural awards with the plan for them to be held annually.

At the awards ceremony, the following three prizes were presented:

  • The Recognising Achievement Award - awarded to the individual who has best utilised their endeavour to promote and catalyse their recovery.
  • The Celebrating Excellence Award - awarded to the individual who has endeavoured to achieve excellence in their chosen sport or adventure challenge.
  • The Henry Worsley Award - awarded to the individual who has best inspired others through the demonstration of determination in the face of adversity, whilst endeavouring to support others with their recovery through sport or adventure challenge.

The surprise of the night came when Meghan took to the stage to present the Celebrating Excellence Award. Meghan said, "I'm truly privileged to be here", before going through the list of nominees. There was a mix up of sorts with the envelopes and it took a couple of minutes before Meghan could proceed listing the nominees. She took it in her stride and laughed it off.

More from The Telegraph:

'Ms Markle took to the stage to present the second honour of the night - the Celebrating Excellence Award alongside previous winner Neil Heritage. She said: "I'm truly privileged to be here."
But there were giggles from guests in the room as Mr Heritage struggled with the envelope containing the names of the nominees. Ms Markle smiled and laughed as she helped her co-presenter and the ceremony got back on track.'

Meghan presented the award to Daniel Claricoates, who took on some of the world's highest mountains to help his recovery from PTSD.

The Henry Worsley Award is named after the late Henry Worsley, who tragically lost his life in January 2016 whilst attempting to cross the Antarctic landmass, solo and unsupported. Henry, a career soldier and an experienced polar adventurer, undertook this incredible expedition in order to raise money for the Endeavour Fund. At the awards last year, William said: "The best way that we can thank Henry, the best way we can honour his memory, is to create a legacy.  The award of a prize in his name is but a small part of this legacy, a gesture offered to show how much Henry meant to us.  A much more significant and meaningful legacy can be fulfilled by you — the community for whom Henry sacrificed so much."

Sean Gane has won the Henry Worsley Award, after overcoming serious injuries to take on a dog-sledding expedition to Sweden.  Prince Harry presented the award alongside Henry's children Alicia and Max Worsley.

Rebecca English reports:

'The couple also chatted at length with Joanna Worsley, widow of Henry Worsley, who tragically lost his life in January 2016 whilst attempting to cross the Antarctic landmass, solo and unsupported. Henry, a career soldier and an experienced polar adventurer, undertook his incredible expedition in order to raise money for the Endeavour Fund and was just 30 miles from the finish when he lost his life.
The couple's son, Max, said his mother had met Harry and his bride-to-be a few weeks ago when they met to decide the winner of an award in his name and memory. He said: 'Mum liked her very much and said she had said how delighted she was to be involved with tonight's event.'

An overview of the event.

During his speech, Prince Harry said “I’m continually amazed by the tenacity, fortitude and unshakeable humour displayed by the men and women who sign up to run races, cross oceans, climb mountains or take on challenges few would even contemplate.”

Goldsmiths' Hall was the ideal choice of venue. Positioned at the junction of Foster Lane and Gresham Street, north east of St Paul's Cathedral, the magnificent Hall, opened in 1835, is one of London's hidden treasures.

The Hall narrowly escaped complete destruction when in 1941 a bomb exploded inside the south-west corner. Faithfully restored on the exterior after the War and internally modified, it retains much of the charm of an urban palazzo. A major refurbishment which was completed in 1990 has further adapted this great building for the 21st century. Take a virtual tour of the Hall here.

Goldsmith's Hall is also steeped in royal history. Not only the location for Meghan's first evening engagement, it was the venue for Lady Diana Spencer's first official appearance following her engagement to Prince Charles; they attended a gala evening to raise funds for the Royal Opera House. The event was attended by Princess Grace of Monaco who offered Diana advice when she noticed she was overwhelmed about the attention she was receiving. The two had an instant connection with Grace taking Diana aside to the bathroom and telling her: "Don't worry dear, it will only get worse." Diana travelled to Monaco eighteen months later to attend Grace's funeral.

You can view the awards in their entirety below. You can see Meghan at roughly 1:36.

Harry and Meghan leaving the awards.

Meghan looked sharp, professional and chic in an impeccably tailored Alexander McQueen trouser suit.

Meghan's jacket is the £1,245 McQueen Grain de poudre wool blazer. It is described as "Made from grain de poudre wool, this satin-lined blazer has sharp peaked lapels, structured shoulders and angular flap pockets that draw attention to the smallest part of your frame."

The Meghan's Mirror team identified Meghan's pants as the £575 Grain de poudre wool straight-leg pants. They were tailored for Meghan, hence the cuffs on the bottom.

Meghan teamed the suit with the Tux Bodywear 'The Boss' pussy-bow silk crepe de chine bodysuit. (with thanks to Japanese Ginger). The £285 piece is available at Net-A-Porter.

More from the product description:

Tuxe Bodywear founder Tamar Daniel told us that she was really inspired to bring an airiness to corporate dressing - "I re-imagined business classics with the promise of a comfortable tuck for staying power." Aptly named 'The Boss', this bodysuit is made from lustrous silk crepe de chine and has neck ties that can be left undone or knotted for a more polished look. The seamless briefs ensures they'll be undetectable under fitted skirts or pants.

Meghan's shoes are the Manolo Blahnik BB pumps (with thanks to What Meghan Wore).

Meghan accessorised with her Birks stacking ring.

And her $375 Les Plaisirs De Birks Gold Bar Earrings.

The Telegraph described Meghan's look as a "refreshing statement":

'It was a suit for the Suits star. Markle was attending her first evening engagement as fiancée of Prince Harry as the couple honoured members of the military at the Endeavour Fund Awards. But rather than sticking to the usual royal protocol of an appropriately feminine dress, the former actress wore a black tuxedo jacket, cream silk shirt and cigarette trousers which were also by McQueen; under creative director Sarah Burton, the British label is as renowned for its meticulous tailoring as its exquisite couture-level craftsmanship.
While wearing trousers is an everyday occurence for most women, it is a rare sight amongst the ladies of the royal family especially for more formal engagements. When Princess Diana began experimenting with Jasper Conran tailoring and even the occasional bow tie in the mid Eighties, it was little short of revolutionary. And from Markle today, it is just as much a refreshing statement.
Given that the Time's Up movement will continue to use the red carpet as a platform for protest at the BAFTA awards later this month, with actresses planning to wear black as they did at the Golden Globes, Markle's modest black outfit could also be a nod of support to the anti-sexual harassment campaign.'

Meanwhile in Oslo, Meghan's future sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge also wore McQueen. It was a big night for the British brand!

A fantastic night filled with inspirational stories and deserving nominees and winners. It was great to see Meghan presenting an award. I thought she looked sophisticated and understated in her McQueen suit - a perfect choice for the largely informal feel of the event. What do you think of the event and Meghan's look?

  1. She looks lovely. Can hardly wait to see more photos.
As a side note, I had to laugh when I saw Princess Mette-Marit in an all black ensemble for this afternoon’s engagement. Hope that puts to rest the criticism of black ensembles!

    1. & don't forget The First Event for The Scandinavian Tour, Will & Kate Both in All Black! lol :) I believe, whether it's with Clothes (i.e. the double black outfits for the first Swedish Event) or with Accessories (Kate carrying small handbags) or Hair ( Kate's soft messy buns during The Tour). Will & Kate have Harry & Meghan's Backs! Sartorial Diplomacy At It's Best! Whether it's a statement or it's stylistic ideas rubbing off on one another. They are Sisters & Brothers & The 4 of Them Are One Another's Family Now & Forever! :) It's Everything Diana wanted for Her Sons! xoxo

    2. But don't forget that AFTER the first event of the Scandinavian tour, Kate changed into something green, and went on to wear red and white, gold, blue, blush pink and plum! Mette-Marit wore a silver gown and red/blue for today's ski jump events. CP Victoria also wore red, pink, duck-egg blue and a white floral print.

My issue with Meghan's wardrobe is not that she wears black per se - all royals do from time to time (including Diana back in the day). My issue is that so far she has worn nothing BUT black for her engagements - every single one. I'm afraid I find that repetitive and deadly boring.

I have been a champion of Meghan for a long time and I want her to succeed in her new role - I love her vivacity, her commitment to good causes and her apparent work ethic and enthusiasm to get stuck in. I also know that clothes are not the be all and end all of the royal existence, but (rightly or wrongly) they do help to sell papers and magazines. The point I've been trying to make about colour is illustrated perfectly by the front cover of the Daily Mail today. It's not a paper I choose to read, but apparently it has the biggest circulation in the UK. The pink evening gown takes up almost half of the front page, while the black trouser suit gets a postage stamp in the top-right corner. I would argue that Harry and Meghan's awards engagement was much more interesting than Kate and William's dinner on this occasion and deserved good coverage, but any picture editor worth their salt is always going to choose something colourful over something black, however trendy/edgy/cool it is.

I happen to love this trouser suit and I think it fits the occasion well. If she'd worn it after a succession of more colourful outfits in Nottingham, Brixton and Cardiff, I would have been jumping up and down with everyone else. Instead I find myself sighing that it's lost in a sea of other black outfits.

    3. Helen, color does not equal success. For example, no one was more colorful than Sarah the Duchess of York. Enough said. :-) I'd rather see Meghan make her mark in the basic color palette she seems to favor than to have her look as though she is imitating or simply trying too hard to fit in.

I KNEW IT!!! I knew she would wear a suit!! I´d most probably would have done the same.... I´m not a fan of the length of the trousers, I never have been, but that´s just me... Otherwise I like it. I like that she wears a suit to this event, I just like it... I can hear the critics screaming their head off already, but I like it... I wonder if she has some nice glittering earrings on? That´s what I would have chosen as a nice contrast to the suit...

    3. I think it's a perfect length. The video shows that the lady who greeted them just shook her hand but didn't say anything to her. Very awkward. Makes me wonder what other kinds of subtle and not-so-subtle rebuffing she is having to put up with.
Don't know whether I am imagining it but I detected frostiness there.

    1. Ironically for the media, I think they (K&M) honor & respect each other's style! So the media can say what they want, but Kate & Meghan just aren't gonna play ball! They are both who they are & truth is they may still rub off on each other style wise at times. William & Harry are Very Supportive & Protective of Each Other! They Could Only Have Clicked With Women Who Were The Same Way! The 4 of Them Will Be Their Own Family within The Royal Family. That includes Supporting one another & Having one another's Backs! W&H have had such a unique relationship & gone through things that only they can understand. Likewise, as their Life Partners, K&M will share a Royal Sisterhood that will be unique & that only they will understand. Kate will have a unique bond with Meghan that she won't ever have with Pippa. We need to Honor & Support both of these 2 Women, The New Royal Sisters! :) xoxo

    1. Black pants are the new skinny jean...! Hilarious. Since I read both Duchess Kate and this blog, I'm curious to see how long it will be before the lists of "hates" for each of them match in number. We already have Meghan's pants and messy bun to match Catherine's skinny jeans and middle part. What's next? Bring it on.

I know this is not a compare the girls forum, but sometimes all you can do is laugh--and try to look as happy as Meghan (and Catherine). Works for me.

    2. Nothing wrong with the black suit. It’s just boring. And the shirt looks disheveled, as seen in some of the group pictures. See, I think the pants she wore to the last engagement with these heels would have worked better. She still gives off “LA actress” vibes and not Royal family. I’m equally critical of some of Kate’s choices too. Not hate. Just critical. Meghan looks lovely in what she wears. Just not my royal cup of tea.

  15. I'm disappointed that we didn't see a dress but excited to see a suit. It is extremely unusual for an evening event in the British royal family and that is fun - to see her experiment and stay true to her own style. I have to admit this one seems a little too casual for an evening event but I did read in an interview that Meghan enjoys having something "French" she called it where there is one disheveled element to her outfit.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Nica, I read that too and try to remember it when I find myself fussing over an outfit too much. Personally I do prefer a slightly undone look so it's right up my alley. :)

    2. I think we will see many dresses in the years to come. Dresses that are classic and chic. Lots of the royals in Europe have taken to the acceptable pants suits. So refreshing!

      Delete
    3. Nica, during the last two engagements Meghan's disheveled element was her hair. I'm glad to see that part of her looking much better for this occasion. Her pantsuit is chic and sophisticated. Usually the British Royal women wear dresses for an event such as this, but obviously Meghan is going to do things her way.

  19. LOVE the short pants on the suit together with the heels. So feminine, yet so business-like sharp and elegant. That also keeps it out of the menswear or Hilary Clinton pant suits leagues. I notice that Queen Letizia often opts for the shorter pant leg.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Philly, I echo your sentiments. Meghan's outfit could easily have been worn by Queen Letizia. I think Meghan brought an understated elegance to the event as to not detract from honoring the inspiring people in attendance. My focus in reading this post was about the honorees and their accomplishments, so I think her choice was very wise. I don't think black trousers or slacks are the new skinny jean. I think this look is sophisticated, refined, feminine and shows a quiet confidence by the person wearing this style. This outfit is unique in that many ladies could not wear this look. That is not a criticism, but shows that Meghan can carry off a style identity that is stunning and appropriate in her current status as Prince Harry's fiancé, while being respectful to the British monarchy.

(A little biased perhaps as I have an outfit almost identical to this.) Didn’t see her jewelry yet but will go back for a second look. Harry in blue seemed to distract. Small potatoes. But a grey or brown would have been nice. Loved the Endeavor Fund prizes and speeches. Kudos and more Kudos Harry and Meghan and all associates and all who participated and all their families.
The Goldsmith building is beautiful. A great place to honor the participants. There has been a Goldsmith Hall there since the 1300’s. Can you imagine?

  46. Beautiful. And knowing how careful she is to not be wasteful, I expect that all these pieces will return in various combinations in future outfits. I love how thoughtful and independent she is, still within the ‘rules’. I truly believe she will give a deep refresh to the royal image and bring lots of new fans to the monarchy. Her level of consciousness (combined with Harry’s) will change thar ‘stiff, heavy’ perspective that many people have of the European royal houses.

  47. I love this look. I am usually not a fan of cropped pants but with those killer shoes and her slim build these look great. Her outfit looks just right for the event, but granted I did not see very many of the women. I would have worn the blouse the way she did, with low bow. Very elegant looking. Love the purse also.

  48. I feel Megan chose well. In the photos you can see that not everyone was in suits. Maybe of the co-presenters are wearing the branded polo shirts. While this is event - and an awards ceremony - that takes place in the evening, she chose well based on the audience.

I suspect that Megan will be caution and not try to bring "Hollywood" to the Royal Family. Her soon-to-be husband is the star. It's not surprising that she took to the stage, she's comfortable on the stage. She's not this. She's got this.

A black pantsuit with ivory or white blouse (all tuxedo style) is totally glam. She wore it well.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sophisticated, under-stated, but still bold in that a pants-suit is appropriate but unusual for an evening time event like this one. I agree with those who think the pants could be an inch longer but my, isn't that a specific, picky observation for an otherwise killer look? That little pop of pink in her clutch is right up my alley - I love to go all neutral with a tiny something in there. She and Kate are both so stunning tonight, I feel very entertained by my royal-watching hobby today! How lucky for me! :)

William found HIs Kate & Harry has found His Meghan!! She has So Many Skills to bring to The Job, from her UNWomen's Work, To having met Heads of State, To Having Participated in Round tables & Given Speeches! She will bring a Huge Wealth of Zest & Experience to The Royal Family & To All that The Couple wants to achieve Together! Then to find out that The Building is where Diana made that Famous first appearance in that black strapless gown & felt like she had been thrown into the deep end of the ocean without a life raft....... Well, there's none of that for Meghan. Diana planted the seeds & now comes The Harvest in Full now For Harry Too! God Bless Them Both & I think Meghan looking Wonderful Tonight! Amen! xoxo

  52. It’s a pretty good choice. Looks appropriate to the occasion and she looks confident in it. I’d prefer to see that jacket buttoned, but she does seem to like the partly untucked look. I would like to see her in something not black, eventually.

She’s nearly walking out of her shoes, again. It looks like Meghan just has a fairly wide foot and literally can’t cram her toes into those pointy shoes, so she gets a too-large size instead. I’ve noticed this with her several times now, and it’s not a good look. Your toes should not be showing when you’re wearing closed pumps. Some of the high-end brands do make wide widths available, and/or she might want to look into getting some basics custom made.

    1. There was an article recently about why stars and celebrities wear oversized shoes. It had a lot to do with standing for long periods of time in the very high heels. Oversized shoes take pressure off the toes and reduce blisters. That's why so many wear big shoes. I couldn't, but supposedly that's the reason.

      Delete
    2. I read that Hollywood actresses wear shoes bigger than their actual shoe size to acccomodate for feet swelling.

    3. Yes I noticed that same thing about her shoes! I have seen that same thing with other celebrities’ shoes. I always thought that their stylist just gave them a pair of shoes to match their outfit, without regard to if they actually fit or not.
That being said, with each appearance, I am becoming more “mad about Meghan”. Absolutely love her and her style. Such a change from the “Kate” look—although both are very fashionable, their styles are so different, which makes for double the fun!

    4. LOL Juniper. Its called toe cleavage and gives the foot a little sexy appeal in an otherwise closed pump.

    5. When I see a woman with oversized shoes, it reminds me of playing dress up and wearing mom's shoes.

On the subject of toe cleavage, I'm all for it!

    6. Oh believe me, I know about swelling feet and the need for room. I used to be a lawyer. I’ve had many long days on my feet in high heels. But you leave, like, a half size or so. What I see, and have seen in other pictures, including some pre-Harry. She has exceptionally narrow ankles, but her feet flare wider in a sort of fan shape. Those shoes are extremely pointy and she can’t get her toes in. It’s not an insult. It’s just an observation.

  53. I think Meghan looks elegant and chic, formal enough to be respectful of the nature of the event, and casual enough not to be out dressing the award recipients, none of whom were in a suit.

  54. My first impression was, there is The Meghan. It is a modern girl power confidence in a smartly dressed suit.
Now that I have read everything Charlotte posted, the occasion celebrates outstanding winners; both Meghan and Harry looked dressed befitting the purpose and message of the evening. Now and then, news about invictus and now Endeavour is extraordinary hope about the extent people can excel against all odds. It is absolutely inspiring.
Princess Grace Kelly’s truth is appreciable in a humorous and realistic way. At the same time almost scary how prophetic it was for both of them.

  64. Absolutely love her outfit - she is representing all of us young professional smart women out there! I almost never wear dresses to work - there's something about a great suit that makes you feel powerful and put together. Also, I find it very endearing that she presented an award and supporting a super important cause to her future husband's life. I'm looking forward to really seeing her out on her own for her own causes. Go Meghan!

    1. Absolutely agree about her intentionally choosing glam professional wear. I wear suits and pants most of the time but I also wear dresses and some skirts. However, if I wear a dress I *always* wear sheaths (nothing flouncy or fussy) with a jacket. Without exception. Same with skirts.

I think that this is very intentional dressing. She is telling us through her outfits that she is not afraid to wear pants and is going to do the 'royal' thing slightly differently. I am so very glad that she is not prancing about in lacy/chiffon dresses but is sticking to her guns.

I also notice that whenever Harry puts an arm on her back she reciprocates. At first I thought it was a PDA thing. Now I am thinking this is a reciprocity/equality thing - as in "you take care of me , I take care of you" rather than "you take care of me because I am the little woman who needs to be gently guided with a hand on the back". I think that Meghan will eventually come out of her shell and *will* give a piece of her mind about women's status, how she sees her role etc. Now is not the time for her to speak, but she is definitely signalling who she is through her clothes.

      Delete
    2. Harry, as the blood royal, will always take precedence, at least in public aspects of the relationship. A gentle hand to the back doesn't just imply "I am dominant/stronger than you.;" it can also signify leadership and Meaghan will need to respect Harry in that role. They have both been single and used to making their own way. The royal element adds another dimension to the adjustment they will both need to make. The more they appear in public together officially, the more apparent this need for Harry to lead will become.
Harry has certainly made an effort at bringing Meghan forward--he seems to enjoy watching Meaghan take the spotlight. However, I suspect he likes to make the decisions about when and under what circumstances she is spot-lighted.
I agree-if she is putting a guiding hand on his back after he makes the move, it could signify an assertion of equality--which is not always how the BRF wish to view their royal spouses and consorts.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip battled this issue throughout their relationship/ The three steps behind...There have been few photos over 60+ years showing Phillip as spouse reaching out a helping hand to his wife--I recall one on the stairs of a cathedral. Another moment on the platform at a commemorative event-Phillip and Elizabeth reaching for each other. It s a rare occurrence with the other senior royals as well, except for William and Catherine, at least at this point in their movement toward the throne.
The truly wise BRF spouse lets his royal spouse shine and doesn't constantly vie for equal time and attention. Not a "little woman" response at all. I sensed a veiled Kate reference with this remark and others. William has been admired for his gentle hand on Kates back.
A truly confident person can follow, as well as lead, and does not need to assert equality because it is understood .

      Delete
    3. Just because the BRF wishes to view their royal spouses a certain way does not make that right. And yes, while a truly confident person can follow as well as lead, a woman who believes that she is equal to her spouse will not accept hierarchy within the marriage.
As long as each person is assuming a leadership role, both inside and outside the marriage, in different spheres, I think that Meghan and Harry will be fine. But if there is an implication that a spouse of a royal has to be subservient to their counterpart I doubt Meghan will accept that.

I was so curious to see what she'd wear, since the attire of those attending seems to be a mixed bag - many in just shorts and a polo shirt! Hard to get much more casual than that, I guess downgrade to a t-shirt and flip flops? Anyway. I think this sleek and chic and very feminine take on a lady tux is absolutely perfect, it's a nice step up in formality from most of the participants and as such I deem it appropriate! I too would have liked to have seen some sparkly earrings or a bracelet or something, but it's not glaringly missing.

  67. I usually never comment on fashion... but she looks under dressed compared to Harry. Why short pants at night when she wore that pretty carmel skirt the other day for a day event? It's the picture of her with all the nominees where I really noticed it. I think her look is too casual, no matter how much it cost or who designed it.

Also, didn't get to weigh in on the Commonwealth discussion - but I agree with the poster who points out that Meghan is a 36 year old bride. Diana was 20 and Sarah Ferguson was 27 -- these women had no adult socializing experience and would not have any expectations by the crown/government in dealing with serious people about serious topics and behaving in a mature fashion. (Being the girlfriend of a prince does not make you a diplomat). So I can see why a young fiance would not be included in state events. As a 36 year old Meghan should be able to converse about more than popular music and TV since she's traveled a bit and has international interests. It would be odd if she was not included. I have always thought that Kate's study of mental health was an opportunity and opening for her to have a subject that was broad and generic enough that she could engage with any country on the topic -- and that has proven to be true -- it gives their visits to foreign countries some gravitas besides sports and pop culture.

    1. Moxie.😊 But Diana did attend state banquets as a fiancé as Charlotte pointed out recently.

      Delete
    2. What is so generic about mental health? In the sense that it is a broad subject, may be generic. Otherwise, it is a specialized, complex, and not an easy subject which they are trying to make it easy and generic.

Meghan’s image gave you an impression of casual may be because of the capris looking length of the pants. That is where the twist was on an otherwise a modern pants suit. Everything else is respectfully complemented as an acceptable formal image without looking like one, and that is the sophisticated part.

Her glow looks like a bride in the making. Her hair style, volume and shine complemented the image very well. She looked upbeat, confident and beautiful. The commonwealth thing is coming up we will see her in a pretty dress in due time. This was about the vets not her clothing.
As much as we want her to be a fashionista we have to remember the position she’s in. She’s trying not to be too Hollywood. That’s why you see her in things that a normal woman would wear to her office job she want to be looked at as a working royal not the actress. She’s not officially apart of the family so it’s best to keep doing the low key but chic looks or else people will claim she’s trying to get all the attention.

I gently disagree withe the Ralph Russo mis-step - she hit that out of the ballpark - those photos are exquisite and declare her absolute delight with her "Prince" and real life fairy tale. She does not need to be practical on her engagement photos, or does she need to do so on her wedding dress - that is the prerogative of every lady to live out their girlish dream - whatever it may be🙂

    3. I will respectfully disagree, Katie CH. I did see several women in the videos (they may have been from twitter feeds as opposed to here), but the other women I saw in those were wearing dresses. I did see one younger woman who followed them up he stairs in a pant suit, but she was holding a folder which gives the impression she was an assistant. While I did not except an evening gown by any means, I did expect a dress. Her role here was to the be official that honored this brave and hard working people at this awards ceremony. Especially since she knew she would be giving an award, wearing a dress would have given a more professional appearance than a trendy pantsuit which to me came off to me as trying to be cool and different. But I am admittedly and happily old fashioned and gladly celebrate feminity over a sense of feminine empowerment. I think dresses at an evening event are the most appropriate choice.

While I totally respect that she's staying true to herself and her style, to me this look is boring. I'm a lawyer and today I've met with about 25 people dressed in the very same way (bar the clutch), although admittedly perhaps not all of them were in AMQ :). I'm not criticising her. I'm just not feeling inspired by this look.

    1. I think she looked absolutely fantastic. Maybe, another time you will feel inspired but to be honest after following the royals for 7 years, I want to be inspired by her actions in the long run.

    2. Princess Diana also wore such outfits 30 years ago.

    3. I agree, with you blueandgrey eyes. Although chic and sophisticated there is zero pizazz to this outfit. Neutrals have their place…in the courtroom, at a funeral, going for a job interview. But it is colour that makes you stand out. Women in our society are overly dependant on black. At dress up occasions when just about every woman in the room is wearing a little black dress, I love to wear royal blue or red. I'm not a showoff. I just don't want to fade into the wallpaper.

  93. Meghan looks like a rock star!! This outfit is terrific. The suit is a great balance between professional but also a dressed up feeling which carries it so well into an evening event. The top also adds a dressy element. And the cropped pants with the shoes?! Swoon. The hair! I literally cannot express how much I love the whole outfit-and Meghan's confidence and ease in wearing it. Even though she didn't grow up in England, she seems so much more confident and at ease in Harry's world than Diana really ever seemed to while married to Charles.

  94. Anonymous, I have a narrow foot and it looks as if Ms Markle may have a narrow foot. I’m double A and it’s difficult to get a great fit unless “cut to foot”. I like Ms Markle’s confidence and I like the Duchess of Cambridge’s handling of the media since she married Prince William. I sometime wonder how I would handle such scrutiny of EVERYTHING I DO, EVERYTHING I WEAR and EVERYWHERE I GO. I commend them for being “tough skinned”. You kinda have to be. Thanks, Charlotte. I appreciate your spirit of excellence.

  96. I like this look. I don't mind that it is not revolutionarily unique or new, but I am instead happy that she is playing it safe this time. I don't even mind the hair to one side. Meaghan looks elegant and professional.

Meghan isn´t the first royal woman to wear a very chic black suit, and she´s in very good company, too:

    That was in 1986!
The very dear Nicky pointed this out on her "When Meghan Met Harry" blog! Interesting, isn´t it? :-)))

  99. I hope Meghan will wear some token of affinity expressed to the waiting crowd in Edenborough. Some gem, local wool material as a scarf or whatever takes her fancy and taste in that line of choice. A bag or a clutch is fine, but some item which a person wears as a guest, especially from another country, has meaning to the host country IMHO. The Wales top was great last time which was just indoors. I assume the waiting crowd who tolerates the climate, dedicate the day for the couple’s arrival standing for hours, will deserve some symbolic message especially from a first time and brand new high profile official guest/s. They may not care, but on-line photos are forever and the future will also be in those images as well. At least not be in all 100%black although she wore Wales designer pants at the Wales visit. Somehow the messy bun makes her look somewhat older or matured than Harry in a mundane way. May be it can turn into a nice style if she considers the climate of the places they visit, the scrutiny and up close flash photography. The pulled back hair in her UN speech was nice. It is easier to observe and comment than be in her place. She must have a lot going on all at the same time. I think she is good.

  100. Eve,
Some of Diana's style is a testament contrary to the commentary that joining BRF changes the women into adapting a conservative style. There might be a place, time and protocol, but Diana’s style was a statement that each woman can have the freedom to adapt her own ways with fashion. I think Kate simply has a conservative side which is not highly into an outstanding everyday fashion. She carries on safely, carefully, and had been great when necessary; that may cater well to an older generation she mingles in. To be honest, Meghan is not the Diana’s ways either when it comes to fashion. I think she has a kin awareness of style, and so far, since her engagement, she had been carefully safe and seemingly accessible with not much outstanding. The style she is wearing here is a part of who she had been, in personality, daring, independence, contemporary look, and beautifully cool.

  101. Eve, on second thought, Kate came into the lime light officially over a decade after Diana, and Meghan two decades later. Who knows? May be the times dictate certain BRF images as the world changes. Here, with Meghan, once again, it seems the BRF senior member daughter in-laws can have their own styles.
