A Magical Windsor Wedding for Harry and Meghan!

It was a magical day in Windsor as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married in a joyous ceremony at St George's Chapel.

The Palace told us to expect a wedding "guided by tradition, allowing everyone to celebrate what makes Royal Weddings so special, but also one which reflects the personalities of Harry and Meghan", a "fun and joyful" celebration involving members of the public. The royal couple more than delivered on that promise.

We saw our first glimpse of the bride this morning when a radiant Meghan made the journey with her mother Doria from the Cliveden House Hotel where they spent last night. Doria, who affectionately calls her daughter "Flower" beamed as they made the journey to Windsor. One can only imagine how proud she must be feeling today. The two enjoy a fantastic relationship.

Meghan once said: "We can just have so much fun together, and yet, I'll still find so much solace in her support. That duality coexists the same way it would in a best friend." There is no one Meghan would have wanted to share those moments with more than her mother and the memory will last a lifetime for both of them.

With Prince Harry's connection to the military, it was a given the armed forces would provide support at his wedding. Members of the Household Cavalry formed a staircase party at St George’s Chapel as part of the wedding. The State Trumpeters and a Captain’s Escort from the Household Cavalry also provided ceremonial support. Streets within the precincts of Windsor Castle were also lined by members of the Windsor Castle Guard from 1st Battalion Irish Guards, and by Armed Forces personnel units Harry is associated with.

The groom and his best man arrived at the Chapel's West steps, wearing their Blues and Royals uniforms, to rapturous applause. The princes looked delighted as they saw the people gathered in the Castle precincts. Harry and Meghan asked Lord Lieutenants to invite 1,200 people to join the celebrations, including young people who have shown strong leadership and those who have served their communities. Other guests included 100 pupils from two local schools, 610 Windsor Castle community members and 530 Members of the Royal Household and the Crown Estate.

Doria was elegant in a custom dress and day coat designed by the creative directors of Oscar de la Renta, Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim. Doria's custom hat was designed exclusively for her by British milliner Stephen Jones, OBE, whom the Palace said Meghan has worked closely with since moving to the UK.

Oprah was in attendance.

The star studded guest list included Serena Williams, Elton John, Idris Elba, members of the Suits cast.

George and Amal Clooney were also in attendance. Amal was the best dressed guest for me - she looked stunning in Stella McCartney.

The Middleton family.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh arriving. It was terrific to see Philip in such good spirits.

Page boys and bridesmaids arriving with Kate.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Jessica Mulroney arrived with the bridal party.

Bridesmaid Princess Charlotte :)

A stunning arrival from the bride.

Our first look at the gown.

The bride was accompanied by a bridal party of no less than ten bridesmaids and page boys all under eight-years-old. The Mulroney twins were on hand to assist with the veil.

Adorably attired and impeccably behaved, the group included Prince George and Princess Charlotte; Prince Harry's godson Jasper Dyer, the son of his longtime mentor Mark Dyer; Harry's goddaughters Zalie Warren and Florence van Cutsem. The van Cutsems have been close friends of the princes since their schooldays. Meghan's goddaughters Remi and Rylan Litt, the daughters of close friend Benita Litt from LA, and best friend Jessica Mulroney's twin boys John and Brian and daughter Ivy completed the party.

Meghan was met at the Quire by Prince Charles.

It is said the two have formed a very close bond in recent months and Charles was honoured to walk Meghan down the aisle.

A particularly memorable moment was the expression on smitten Harry's face when he greeted Meghan. He turned to her and said, "you look amazing. I missed you".

A video of the moment.

Doria looked so proud and emotional throughout the ceremony.

One of many beautiful moments during the service.

Florist Philippa Craddock did a superb job in creating a floral wonderland inside St George's Chapel. The displays were created using locally sourced foliage, much of which was taken from the gardens and parkland of the Crown Estate and Windsor Great Park.

Philippa used a selection of flowers and plants that are in season and blooming naturally in May, including branches of beech, birch and hornbeam, as well as white garden roses, peonies and foxgloves. The designs reflected the wild and natural landscapes from which many of the plants will be drawn. Ms Craddock described the process as "highly collaborative" and "fun" adding the final result "represented them as a couple".

It was filled with romantic looks.

The service was conducted by the Dean of Windsor, the Rt. Revd. David Conner. The Most Revd. and Rt. Hon. Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, officiated as the couple made their marriage vows. The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church, gave the address.

More from the Mail Online:

'The Most Rev Bishop Michael Curry, the first African-American presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church, gave an address titled the Power of Love at the service in St George's Chapel. He opened his speech with the words of Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr, who said: 'We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we do that, we will be able to make of this old world a new world. Love is the only way.'
The bishop then added: 'There's power in love. Don't underestimate it. Don't even over-sentimentalise. There is power, power in love.' The Episcopal Church is the US offshoot of the Church of England and forms part of the broader Anglican Communion. Meghan was baptised into the Anglican Church, which is headed by Harry's grandmother.
Bishop Curry told the service: 'There's power in love. Love can help and heal when nothing else can. There's power in love to lift up and liberate when nothing else will.' Such power could be seen in the service, he continued, saying: 'Two young people fell in love and we all showed up.'

Harry and Meghan listening to the sermon.

When the time came to choose the venue for their wedding Windsor was Harry and Meghan's immediate choice. It's a "very special place" for the couple and they have spent quite a bit of time there since the early days of their relationship. Prince Harry was christened and attended Easter Sunday services there as a child. They cited "centuries of tradition" and the "beautiful grounds surrounding the castle" as factors in their decision.

More on the castle:

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 39 monarchs. Today the Queen spends most of her private weekends at the Castle. It is the sixteenth Royal Wedding to take place there since 1863. Past brides include Princess Alexandra of Denmark, Lady Helen Taylor, the Countess of Wessex, and most recently Autumn Phillips.

St George's Chapel within the grounds of Windsor Castle is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England. Construction of the present chapel began in 1475 under the reign of Edward IV. When visiting make sure you look up and admire the stone ceiling, which was added by Henry VII. The chapel is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, the senior order of British Chivalry established in 1348 by Edward III. Within the chapel are the tombs of ten monarchs, including Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour, and Charles I. Among the many monuments in the Chapel, look out for the spectacular marble memorial by Matthew Wyatt to George IV's only child, Princess Charlotte, who died in childbirth in 1817.

Prince Harry's mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales will not have been far from his mind throughout the day. It was incredibly important to both him and Meghan to involve his mother in the day and they were both "honoured" all three of her siblings were in attendance and asked her sister Lady Jane Fellowes to give the reading. The Palace said "Lady Jane was helping to celebrate the memory of the late Princess".

The carefully selected music featured a number of well-known hymns and choral works under the direction of James Vivian, director of music at St George's Chapel. The Choir of St George's chapel were joined by cellist Sheku Kanneh - Mason, Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir, The Orchestra conducted by Christopher Warren-Green, soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, the State Trumpeters, David Blackadder and Luke Bond for magnificent performances. Music from Ben E King and Etta James featured, including a particularly touching performance of Stand By Me.

The full Order of Service is available to download here. The Palace said: "Like any couple getting married, Prince Harry and Ms Markle have taken a great deal of care in selecting all elements for their service. This has been a collaborative effort led by Prince Harry and Ms Markle. They have also sought the advice of the Prince of Wales for the orchestral music before the Service begins."

The vows:

Members of the Royal Family sang a hymn.

The couple commissioned Cleave and Company to make their wedding rings. The company made Meghan's trilogy engagement ring last year. Meghan's was fashioned from a piece of Welsh Gold, gifted by Her Majesty the Queen. Harry's ring is a a platinum band with a textured finish.

As the couple left, Meghan curtsied to the Queen. Unfortunately the cameraman just missed it.

Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Time for a kiss.

The newlyweds were more than happy to oblige.

 They both looked utterly overjoyed.

As the couple made their way down the steps the crowd cheered.

Members of the Royal Family and Doria watched on.

The Prince of Wales escorts both Doria and Camilla.

As the couple stepped into their carriage, they were waved off by family and friends. The Carriage Procession through Windsor was designed to allow members of the public to see the couple, who travelled in the Ascot Landau carriage pulled by Windsor Grey horses.

The Cambridges watch the procession.

The twenty-five minute procession saw the newlyweds travel along Castle Hill, the High Street and into Windsor town centre before returning along the beautiful, tree-lined Long Walk for their reception.

Well-wishers lined the streets.

An overview of the crowds.

A sea of British and American flags.

As expected the Queen conferred a dukedom on Prince Harry as a wedding gift. His titles are Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. Harry is the 2nd Duke of Sussex. The first duke was Prince Augustus Frederick, sixth son of King George III and Queen Charlotte. The dukedom, conferred on him in November 1801, became extinct when he died 42 years later because he had no legitimate issue. Victoria Arbiter noted he campaigned for the abolition of slavery. Meghan is the first Duchess of Sussex.

The couple's Scottish title will be the Earl and Countess of Dumbarton. George Douglas, a younger son of the first Marquess of Douglas, was created Earl of Dumbarton in 1675. On the death of the 2nd Earl in 1749 the title became extinct and until now has not subsequently been granted as a title. Dumbarton, on the north bank of the River Clyde, was a Royal Burgh between 1222 and 1975. Dumbarton Castle was a Royal fortress even before Dumbarton became a Royal Burgh.

Their title in Northern Ireland will be Baron and Lady Kilkeel. Kilkeel has never previously been granted as a title. It is a small fishing town on the coast of County Down, below the Mourne Mountains. All Baronies have a Nomen Dignitatis and a territorial designation. The title therefore is Kilkeel and the territorial designation is of Kilkeel in the County of Down.

You can view a video of the full wedding on the Royal Family's YouTube Channel.

It was fashion's best kept secret and we were all left surprised to learn Meghan's stunning wedding gown was designed by acclaimed British designer, Clare Waight Keller. Ms Waight Keller last year became the first female Artistic Director at the historic French fashion house Givenchy. The moment Meghan stepped out of the car there was a collective gasp from those I was watching with; the cut, craftsmanship and seemless simplicity is so very Meghan, and she stayed true to her style whilst incorporating every consideration for her new role and position.

The Palace said:

"After meeting Ms. Waight Keller in early 2018, Ms. Markle chose to work with her for her timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour. Ms. Markle also wanted to highlight the success of a leading British talent who has now served as the creative head of three globally influential fashion houses – Pringle of Scotland, Chloรฉ, and now Givenchy. Ms. Markle and Ms. Waight Keller worked closely together on the design. The dress epitomises a timeless minimal elegance referencing the codes of the iconic House of Givenchy and showcasing the expert craftsmanship of its world-renowned Parisian couture atelier founded in 1952.

True to the heritage of the house, the pure lines of the dress are achieved using six meticulously placed seams. The focus of the dress is the graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully frames the shoulders and emphasises the slender sculpted waist. The lines of the dress extend towards the back where the train flows in soft round folds cushioned by an underskirt in triple silk organza. The slim three-quarter sleeves add a note of refined modernity.

Following extensive research by Ms Waight Keller in fabric mills throughout Europe, an exclusive double bonded silk cady was developed. Perfect for the rounded sculptural look required, the silk cady has a soft matt lustre whilst the bonding process and pure white colour chosen by Ms Markle and Ms Waight Keller bring a fresh modernity to the dress.

Speaking about Harry, the designer said “He came straight up to me and he said ‘oh my God, thank you, she looks absolutely stunning’." Below, the sketch by Claire Waight Keller.

Born in Birmingham, the designer studied at Ravensbourne College of Art, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in fashion, followed by a master's degree at the Royal College of Art. She started at Calvin Klein in New York as a stylist for the women's ready-to-wear line, then at Ralph Lauren. Speaking about the commission she said: "It has been an immensely rewarding experience to get to know Meghan on a personal level, one I will forever carry with me. The House of Givenchy joins me in wishing her and Prince Harry every wish of happiness in their future."

The veil is quite simply a work of art. Meghan expressed the wish of having all 53 countries of the Commonwealth with her on her journey through the ceremony. Ms Waight Keller designed a veil representing the distinctive flora of each Commonwealth country united in one spectacular floral composition.

The Palace added:

'The Commonwealth family of nations – of which Her Majesty The Queen is Head –will be a central part of Prince Harry’s and Ms. Markle’s official work following His Royal Highness’s appointment as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador. Ms. Markle wanted to express her gratitude for the opportunity to support the work of the Commonwealth by incorporating references to its members into the design of her wedding dress.
Significant time was spent researching the flora of each Commonwealth country and much care was taken by Ms. Waight Keller to ensure that every flower is unique. The veil is five meters long and made from silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers in silk threads and organza. Each flower was worked flat, in three dimensions to create a unique and delicate design. The workers spent hundreds of hours meticulously sewing and washing their hands every thirty minutes to keep the tulle and threads pristine.
In addition to the flora of the Commonwealth, Ms. Markle also selected two personal favourites: Wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox), which grows in the grounds of Kensington Palace in front of Nottingham Cottage, and the California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) the State flower from Ms. Markle’s place of birth, California.
Symmetrically placed at the very front of the veil, crops of wheat are delicately embroidered and blend into the flora, to symbolise love and charity. A selection of flora distinctive from every state member of the Commonwealth.'

Meghan's choice of designer was not the only element of the day which came as a complete surprise; we were all incredibly eager to see which tiara Meghan would wear. Would she be loaned one from the Royal Vaults? Perhaps a new one? Her Majesty decided to loan her new granddaughter-in-law Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau Tiara, which was created for her grandmother Queen Mary.

The sparkling diamond bandeau is English and was made in 1932, with the centre brooch dating from 1893. The bandeau, which is made of diamonds and platinum, is formed as a flexible band of eleven sections, pierced with interlaced ovals and pavรฉ set with large and small brilliant diamonds. The centre is set with a detachable brooch of ten brilliant diamonds.

It was made for Queen Mary and specifically designed to accommodate the centre brooch. This brooch was given as a present to the then Princess Mary in 1893 by the County of Lincoln on her marriage to Prince George, Duke of York. Following her death in 1953 it was passed to her granddaughter the Queen.

Look at the sparkle...

Meghan's shoes are based on a Givenchy refined, pointed couture design made of a silk duchess satin.

Prince Harry handpicked several flowers yesterday from their private garden at Kensington Palace to add to the bespoke bridal bouquet designed by florist Philippa Craddock. The spring blooms include Forget-Me-Nots which were Diana, Princess of Wales’ favourite flower. The couple specifically chose them to be included in Meghan's bouquet to honour the memory of the late Princess on this special day.

The Palace said:

'The Bride's bouquet is a petite design, pulled together in a gentle, ethereal, relaxed style with delicate blooms also including scented sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia, and sprigs of myrtle all bound with a naturally dyed, raw silk ribbon. The myrtle sprigs are from stems planted at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, by Queen Victoria in 1845, and from a plant grown from the myrtle used in the Queen’s wedding bouquet of 1947. The tradition of carrying myrtle began after Queen Victoria was given a nosegay containing myrtle by Prince Albert’s grandmother during a visit to Gotha in Germany. In the same year, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne House as a family retreat, and a sprig from the posy was planted against the terrace walls, where it continues to thrive today. The myrtle was first carried by Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, when she married in 1858.'

Meghan's earrings and bracelet are by Cartier. The bracelet is the $155,00 Reflection style.

She has worn the Galanterie de Cartier earrings on several occasions.

The bride's hair was styled by Serge Normant in an updo with a middle part, with make-up by long-time friend and make-up artist Daniel Martin.

Clare Waight Keller designed the six young bridesmaids’ dresses in the Givenchy Haute Couture Atelier in Paris. The dresses were designed to have the same timeless purity as Ms Markle's dress. Each one is sculpted in Ivory silk Radzimir, and is high-waisted with short puff sleeves and hand finished with a double silk ribbon detail tied at the back in a bow. The bridesmaids’ dresses include pockets and pleated skirts to create a relaxed and luxurious silhouette. Each also wore white leather Aquazurra shoes, monogrammed with the bridesmaids initials, and the wedding date. The shoes are a gift from Meghan to the young ladies as a keepsake of the special day.

The four page boys wore miniature versions of the Blues and Royals frockcoat. The uniform draws its insignia from the Blues and Royals, which is an old Regiment of the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Both also wore Blues and Royals frockcoats for the Wedding Day. The frockcoats are made from blue doeskin, single-breasted in style with a stand-up collar and completed with figured braiding of Regimental pattern. The figured braiding was scaled down for the pages, as otherwise it would have gone above their shoulders. As a special memento, each page had their initials embroidered in gold on their shoulder straps. The pages did not wear hats or white waist belts for practical reasons.

After the procession, the Queen gave a lunchtime reception at St George's Hall for around 600 guests drawn from the wedding service congregation. Guests were served a selection of canapรฉs, including:

The wedding cake was served at the reception. It was designed by Claire Ptak and featured elderflower syrup made at the Queen’s residence in Sandringham from the estate’s own elder trees, as well as a light sponge cake uniquely formulated for the couple.

Elton John performed at the reception, he was a close friend of Diana's and sang candle in the wind at her funeral.

'To drink, guests will be served Pol Roger Brut Rรฉserve non-vintage Champagne, and a selection of wines. A range of soft drinks will also be served, including an apple and elderflower mocktail, made with the same elderflower syrup as used in the wedding cake, and Sandringham Cox's apple juice.
The reception will include the cutting of the wedding cake and speeches from the Prince of Wales, and the Duke of Sussex. The Duke of Cambridge, as Best Man, will act as compere for the Reception.'

ITV reports Prince Harry delivered an emotional speech:

'The tears came during the groom’s speech to the 650 guests who had assembled in St George’s Hall inside Windsor Castle. Harry, at a small lectern, was talking about his new bride and the moment he spoke about love, he became very became emotional.
And, as often happens at weddings, that set off a run of tears on the faces of others in the room. In particular, his new mother-in-law Doria Ragland.'

Shortly after 7 pm, the couple left for the evening reception at Frogmore House.

Several reporters noted the scenes looked like they could be straight out of a Bond movie. They certainly make a very stylish couple :)

The couple travelled in a silver blue Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero. This vehicle was originally manufactured in 1968, and has since been converted to electric power.

A wave from the newlyweds.

I do love the customised number plate.

Meghan looked gorgeous in a bespoke Stella McCartney lily white high neck gown made of silk crepe. Meghan's shoes from Aquazurra are made in silky satin, with nude mesh, with soles painted in baby blue. Her hair was styled by George Northwood.

When asked to name her favourite celebrity wedding dress, Meghan responded: "Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Everything goals." I imagine the style of the gown served as inspiration for the flawless McCartney number. It's another fabulous bridal look.

Stella McCartney shared the sketch with WWD.

For 'something blue', Meghan wore Diana's statement aquamarine ring. It is thought it was a wedding gift from Harry.

People reports: "Diana famously wore the emerald cut Aquamarine stunner to an auction of her own clothes at Christie’s in 1997. The jewel is part of a set — the other piece is an aquamarine bracelet, where it’s connected by five strands of pearls. She wore both to a gala dinner in Australia in 1996." A lovely way to honour the late Princess.

It very much looks like Meghan wore the Cartier Reflection earrings. They are part of a set matching her bracelet from the ceremony. They retail for $68,000.

A video.

The Duke and Duchess will enjoy a night of dancing and entertainment with 200 of their closest relatives and friends at Frogmore. No doubt it will be a fantastic night.

The Mail reports:

Prince Harry is yesterday said to have praised the 36-year-old former actress, saying she had 'navigated everything with such grace', adding: 'We make such a great team'. He is also said to have told his bride: 'I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you.'
The wedding reception was a star-studded occasion of Hollywood glamour that was hosted by Prince Charles, featured a house music DJ and concluded with a fireworks display outside an historic 17th century venue.
It is also said to have featured a 'naughty' speech from best man Prince William, a thanks from Meghan to the Royal Family for welcoming her in and an unknown 'surprise' from compere James Corden.
Later on the reception Harry's favourite house tracks 'curated' by DJ Sam Totolee, who also performed at Pippa Middleton's wedding, and a 'drinks of the world' themed bar - and their first dance was said to have been Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody, giving a further nod to Meghan's American heritage.
Also on the menu were candyfloss and 'dirty burgers' as midnight snacks, while one source reported a cocktail featuring ginger and rum was on the menu as a cheeky nod to Harry's red hair, named 'When Harry Met Meghan'. The sit-down dinner was organic, sourced at the request of Prince Charles, and the light-bite canapes were themed 'spring meets summer'. The meal, paid for by the Prince of Wales, ran from 7.30pm to around 10pm.
There were said to have been 'naughty' speeches from William and a joint effort from Tom 'Skippy' Inskip and Tom Van Straubenzee. Meghan is also thought to have thanked the Royal Family for welcoming her in.

Wishing the couple a lifetime of happiness.

It was so touching to see a couple so in love exchanging their vows today. An unforgettable day!

  1. It was a beautiful ceremony, and one well worth staying up all night to watch. I wish them all the happiness the world can offer.

  2. Beautiful and so happy. I thought the tiara, earrings, and bracelet were a good balance to the simplicity of the dress. Loved the veil, especially that CA was represented by our poppies. =) Sadly, Meghan's hair is never secured in front to keep those wisps from falling forward and there's no reason for not doing so. It lent a tad bit of messiness to an otherwise pristine, clean-lined image. Still, she was beautiful. I loved that Harry removed her veil himself, thanked "Pa", and told Meghan she looked amazing and that he missed her. I'm glad it all worked out, not having a bridesmaid but she really could have used one with that 15 ft veil. Happy the kids behaved, too. LOL. The curtsy and bow were hard to detect thanks to a bad camera angle, but saw it on a video because I had missed it the first time.

Is her jewelry gifts from Harry and/or Charles?

I felt for Doria, being a mother of a bride myself almost 5 years ago. She was alone and happy-sad (bittersweet if you know what I mean). She did so well and I loved that Charles literally took her in hand. All in all, well done.

    1. I think we’re just going to have to accept that’s the style she wants. I don’t believe with professional hair styling that the wisps are anything other than her deliberate wish.

    2. I concur, I think she chooses to have her hair like that...though I agree, it looked messy this time.

    3. I hope Meghan is not facing a lifetime of these kinds of criticisms. There are some significant cultural and historical issues concerning hair and mixed race women of which you seem unaware.

    4. You cannot possibly infer Meghan’s state of mind from her hair. There are longstanding cultural and historical issues with regard to ethnic women and their hair. I sincerely hope Meghan is not facing a lifetime of these sorts of comments.

    5. @Anonymous 01:06 Sorry but the criticism about her hair has nothing to do with any racial issues. The hairdressers at Suits did fine and before she and Harry got engaged it never looked like that. At the concert for the Queen her hair was fine. She made a deliberate choice to wear messy hair, but I do believe she never wanted to look that messy on her wedding. The hairdresser let her down massively.

  3. Meghan and Harry had a fantastic emotional wedding!
Tender moments, sweet kisses,so much love and cuteness, the veil so pretty and full of symboles!

So much gracefulness in everything about this wedding!
Much happiness to this lovely couple.๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–❤️❤️❤️

My only negative point :They curtsy/bow to Her Majesty at the end, as is custom at royal weddings BUT the camera did not show it:(

    Dear Charlotte,thank you!

  4. What. A. Day. It will be so hard to keep my thoughts short.

The couple seems so happy and in love.

I thought Meghan’s dress was beautifully simple, regal, and sophisticated, but I wish it was more fitted in the arms and bust.

The kids were so insanely cute. Excellent decision to have the moms accompany them in. I did read that bridesmaid Zalie has a twin sister but Harry is only the goddaughter of Zalie. How badly I wish they would have still included her sister and they could have had that experience forever as sisters. Seems so sad to only include one twin.

Speaking of twins, the Mulroney boys’ expressions stole the show when the music started. How adorable was that moment.

I thought Doria was stunning and amazingly composed for how emotional she was. But I feel so sad that out of 600 people she was Meghan’s only family member. How lonely and odd to have no family at all.

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

  5. Beautiful, happy day for everyone. Felt Meghan's dress was a bit of a let down as it was so simple. I do understand that it was understated, but still it lacked any kind of pizazz. Ditto for the children's outfits that were almost drab. And although Meghan didn't do the messy bun, the hairstyle was losing pieces that detracted from a polished look. Has nobody heard of bobby pins and spray to keep the pieces in place? That is why Kate wears a discreet hairnet when her hair is up. All that said, it was a meaningful service and hopefully a good start to a strong marriage.

    1. I think the tiara and her megawatt smile provided plenty of pizzazz. Anything more would have been overkill. :) I wonder if she chose the tiara before settling on the dress?

  7. Beautiful recap, Charlotte!

I enjoyed every bit of the wedding. I love Meghan's dress. I didn't know if she'd go such a classic route but she did and it's beautiful. My only quibble is that the fit is a little baggy. I wish the fit on top were more like the Roland Mouret she wore the night before. Love the tiara and veil. So striking!

Was anyone else super fascinated to see who made it into the premium seats? It gave an interesting glimpse at who is really a part of her inner circle. But are the Clooney's really close friends?? Also, was Lindsay Jill Roth photographed? I think she was the only one I didn't see today that expected to.

What a fun morning it's been! I've never sprung out of bed at 4am so enthusiastically before.

    3. Bluehare- I wondered if it was weight loss but now seeing how perfectly the reception dress fits, I think it was loose by design.

USA Reader- Congrats to you and your family! I’m glad you were able to take time to watch the wedding even though it must be a busy weekend for you :)

Can we talk about the Stella dress? Literal perfection. The cut is so flattering and really shows off her amazing shoulders and arms. Stunning! I wonder if guests are allowed to post photos of the reception. I would guess not but it would be fun to see :)

    4. Exactly. A lot of brides loose weight and in Meghan’s case- the designer and tailors could have fitted it again the night before. That are the perks that come with this new life.

  8. Thank you for your research and comments on this exceptional day. Meghan’s dress is absolutely perfect for her, and I was not comfortable with the bridal gown for a second marriage before I saw her. The simplicity and symbolism are perfect. Just what a sophisticated woman of the world should wear. Harry’s beautiful, unrestrained expression as he gave his whole heart to her had me in tears. I wish them every happiness and know they will make a difference every day of their lives.

  10. Thank you for a lovely summary and a great selection of photos. I'm glad to hear she did curtsey to the Queen, I'm sorry we didn't see it! Did you notice there was an extra seat beside William? I wondered if it was symbolically there for Diana. Beautiful wedding!

    1. I just read the empty seat was to allow the queen to see as she was in the second row. Made for clean sight lines from where she was sitting.

  11. Don't like the dress. Too loose and "big" for her, too plain although I have read extensively about it and appreciate the style and quality - just too plain and too big. I was hoping she would go with simple and romantic which she did but just too plain and not quite the perfect fit for my taste.

Loved the veil and flowers and all of the thought and symbolism in them.

    Loved the tiara and accessories.

Hair should have been tidier with no loose ends but wearing it up was best so not too much of a miss there.

Loved everything else!! Everything! Wonderful elements, beautiful and romantic setting, fun, warm, romantic! As the Bishop said, love is INDEED a powerful thing!

Thought Kate looked very tired (omg, WHO WOULDN'T BE??), she did great attending but not being the focus.

The looks in the audience cracked me up! Especially Zara! Lol. And Kate and Camilla had something going on over there too.... :)

They all seem like a close, normal family. What a beautiful way to start my day!!

    Thank you, Charlotte.

And after choosing the BBC for my television coverage I will be speaking in a British accent until tomorrow at least!! I pick up accents quickly without meaning too and I'm wondering how long it will be before Meghan's accent changes.

    1. fg, I'm glad you mentioned Kate. After watching & following her for years, I feel we have a sense of her. When she's on, when she's off duty. This weekend, in the photos I've seen.... the best I can say is... she doesn't seem herself. I'm not sure if anyone else felt that? She knows how to "be on" when she may not feel like it, but she just seemed off & disengaged.... sort of just flat.... I found myself remembering how she's referred to having a bit of a tough go after George was born. I always chalked it up to demanding baby #1 & the learning curve. She seemed herself after Charlotte, but I'm wondering if she's experiencing a tad of whatever she had after the birth of George, again after the birth of little Louis? Does this sound wackadoo?

      Delete
    2. I agree. Wish she didn't have to deal with bridesmaids/page boys. George hates it anyway. And f she has to go to the evening reception, I find that perhaps too demanding. Having a nanny is great with two older kids but a 1-month-old is tiring and to have to deal with a wedding is too much. She looked like she wasn't really there.

Becca, I noticed the SAME thing! I thought "I wonder what's wrong with Kate?" She just wasn't herself. You could be right, she may be having some baby blues. Hormones:can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em, am I right?

      Delete
    4. Becca I thought the same thing. I hardly saw her smile all day! I think she’s very tired and probably still wearing a maxi pad from the birth and plain worn out with all the stress of wrangling two kids for the wedding. They all did so well and I hope she just gets to rest and relax now after a job well done!

      Delete
    5. I noticed that about Kate too..I chalked it up to her trying to stay low profile so Meghan could shine:) I'm sure exhaustion has something to do with it too! Caring for a 3 1/2 week old is tough!-Maggie

    6. Oh ladies thank you! I was so worried about saying something, but it really stuck out to me, just like I was watching someone I didn't recognize. Allison, you found the right words, it was like she wasn't really there. Not even her usual resting facial expressions. She looked to me like she was in a fog. I was hoping for & then glad to see that Charlotte has some pics of Kate smiling on DKB! However, on balance, I felt she looked something other than just tired..... She looked lovely & I wish her much rest & hope she continues to recover nicely, after the birth of little Louis & enjoys her special time with her 3 lovely children this summer! :) xo

  12. First of all, thank you for the open post and live coverage Charlotte, impeccable as always!

Secondly, hats off to the children and their parents, I had my doubts how it was gonna play out when I heard the age group, but they behaved so well.
They were very cute and Charlotte and her waves.:)

Doria looked so emotional, she must be such a strong woman, the whole world was watching and she did manage not to break down in tears, but there were moments when she was so close to it. She also looked very pretty.

To be perfectly honest, I was a bit underwhelmed by Meghan's dress, but it is growing on me, I can't imagine her wearing anything else now, and after all she looked so lovely and beautiful, really glowing, she stayed true to herself and her style, felt utterly joyful and comfortable. And the look Harry gave her and their whole interaction made it perfectly clear how madly, deeply they are in love!
I wish them a lifetime of happiness too.

And that huge bandeau for me a tiara and the way it complemented everything was a sublime choice! A fantastic day for the royal family and for us supporters as well!

  13. What a wonderful day. And a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday!! :)

Thank you for your updates Charlotte. I think my favourite parts of the day (besides the wedding!) were Brian and John, the DARLING pageboys who did such a good job with the veil, and the gospel choir which was fantastic. I am so thrilled that Meghan paid tribute her black heritage throughout the ceremony. What a great statement in the face of so much criticism and racism in the media. As I said in the last post, I was so struck by how it was such a happy and emotional ceremony full of laughter. So different from William and Kate!

I hope everyone here enjoyed the day!

I expected simple lines and no lace, so I wasn't surprised. I did not know if she would have a train and I think that reflected her new status and role as well as the very long veil with the flowers of all 53 Commonwealth countries. It is not a wowser dress, but, I predict, it will stand the test of time and never look outdated! Of course, the tiara dressed the dress up quite a bit along with the bracelet and earrings! That reflects her new position, also. I think it was Meghan being true to herself and her tastes while adding things she wouldn't ordinarily add if she wasn't marrying into the BRF. I think the bateau neckline worked very well with her figure, also.

      Delete
    2. The streamlined style of her gown allowed her veil to be the star of the show. That veil was glorious.

      Delete
    3. Forgive my comment but the entire thought that to be a Princess (which she will never be) or have a royal total revolves around attire is simply not true. I would think by now, readers are over the so called Kate appearance or anyone else in the current RF. Today and everything that happened today follows the path of who Harry and Meghan are as people. Hopefully, she will continue to have her own personality brought forth by her attire and interests. She was for me the most beautiful royal bride I have seen and she has remained true to her own style which is classic, simple and elegant.

      Delete
    4. Going forward, she will be known as HRH the Duchess of Sussex but she does actually now share ALL of Prince Harry's titles, including Princess. Because she is not a princess in her own right (not by birth) however, her princess title is formally styled Princess Henry/Harry. She is not Princess Meghan. An example of this would be the Queen's cousin-in-law Princess Michael of Kent.

    5. I agree Maggie. I kept waiting for that wow factor, or an aspect of it that showed intricacy, glamour...it was just too simple and plain. I was also slightly disappointed in her hair too, honestly even her makeup was so simple and understated. But obviously that was the look she was going for and she was of course stunning because she just is. I am a but disappointed though.

    6. USA Granny, I agree with so much of what you said, except that her first & foremost Title is "Princess Henry of Wales". She is a Princess of The UK, just like Kate is, via their husbands. Her remaining 3 Titles are of course hers in her own right. I just wanted to clarify that! She is not a Blood Princess, but She Is a Princess of The Realm! :)

Harry and Meghan... what a fantastic couple! Every element of today was planned to perfection with so much of thought going into every thing. I can't even mention them because there were so many. Meghan... just WOW!!!!! She took my breathe away when I saw her emerge from the car. The simplicity and style of her dress was perfection, so elegant and graceful! Definitely one of the BEST wedding dresses ever and she looked like a dream!

Harry... for years I wondered what kind of woman would be able to tame a man like him and he certainly chose wisely! I'm going to stop myself from raving about everything else like the sweet moment Charles met Meghan at the Quire to the way I held back the tears.

Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex! Here's to a lifetime of love, happiness and good memories :) Cheers from South Africa

  18. Wow! This looks like it's going to be an Amazing Post! I just wanted to pop in to say hey to everyone on This Amazing Day, that we've been waiting for, since we first found out Harry had fallen in love with an American Actress named Meghan Markle. :) I was here & ready at 3:00am & am trying to keep the tea flowing & goodies going to keep myself awake until I see Harry & Meghan leave for The Evening "Knees Up"! :) I had Live Coverage going on the TV, while I followed Charlotte's Live Blog here! :) I was able to pop up a few comments, but wasn't able to read more than the initial batch of comments, as you all know there was just so much for us all to take in! I eventually additionally went to the Live streaming feed (that Charlotte had available) & that was wonderful to see the guests waiting in The Chapel with That Beautiful Music! I love when we are able to enhance our viewing on an event, as the TV coverage does go to commercials or is covering different angles. I tried to post a few comments via my iPhone, but don't yet know if they went through (have had past trouble). I'm Sooooo Looking forward to Rereading The Live Blog & Reading All The Comments! That will be just so special to relish the events & Highlights of The Day with all of you! As we all wait to see her Evening Reception Dress.... I must say that this was Way more emotional for me than I had Ever expected!! Way!! So much more than W&K! I'm not entirely sure why.... but it felt so intimate, like a British Country Wedding that we somehow were able to take a peek into. They achieved the exact experience they had expressed that they had wished to! Absolutely Extraordinary! The Iconic Images that are already frozen in my mind's eye are Meghan as she entered & walk serenely down the aisle of The Nave (to that hauntingly beautiful soloist singing) (still just gets me each time I see it!) with those sweet little pageboys & bridesmaids following behind her! Harry's emotional face as he watched her (I lost it there) She was Absolutely Striking!! Then meeting Charles at the entrance to The Quire & seeing her put her hand on his arm as he escorted her down the aisle of The Quire! Harry, so emotional, putting back her veil! (lost it on that one!) Seeing them flanked by the Windsors on one side & by Meghan's Mother & Meghan's closest friends on the other side! The Vows! Watching Harry & Meghan during the Vibrant Homily! The Vows & Marriage! Harry's look as if it was all just too surreal, as if he needed to pinch himself! The Hymns! Lady Jane's Reading (she reminded me of Diana!) (that got me going again!) Then Charles taking Doria's hand as they walked behind the alter! Harry & Meghan coming out the Chapel Doors (surrounded by flowers) into The Sunshine!! Exquisite!!! Then The Kiss!! (Swoon!) Their departure with The Immediate Family at The Top of The Stairs to Wave Them Off! (loved that Diana's Sister was a part of that group!) The Magical Carriage Ride through Windsor, The Newly Minted Duke & Duchess of Sussex!! My heart is just All Filled Up! I can't even begin on her dress, her veil, Harry & his Uniform, The Brothers walking to The Chapel..... The guests..... Just still processing it all! I give Such Thanks to You Charlotte for your Amazing Coverage & For This MAM Blog & The Amazing Community Here! I feel such fondness for you all! I can't wait to see Meghan's Evening Gown & then hit the hay! lol :) Once I'm rested, I will dig in & read all through The Live Blog & Comments & then comeback to read This Post, fully soaking up all that Charlotte has included & then I'll snuggle up & read everyone's comments & relish in reliving the day with all of you! Methinks we will be basking in this day for some time to come! God Bless H&M & God Bless You All!!! (Especially Blessings to You Charlotte & Mr. Charlotte! :) xoxo

Becca, you took the words out of my mouth! Your comments are all the things I wanted to write, and you said it all beautifully. Of the three royal weddings I've watched (Charles and Di, William and Kate, H&M)this was surprisingly my favorite for all the reasons you wrote. Let me add to your mention of the pageboys-I loved the little boy holding her veil, the one with the huge smile and missing tooth-what a doll he was! Meghan's dress was so perfectly her. The wedding was so them! I love how Meghan stayed true to her simple, understated style while also looking royal. I was pleased to see very little of Kate on camera. She is so often a shining star, but today was Meghan's day. The mix of traditional and modern, the incorporation of cultures and countries, a royal wedding that felt intimate-this day was extraordinary!

How absolutely beautiful and wonderful was every detail! I especially loved that Harry is going to wear a ring, that he watched as she walked up to him (I don't understand at all why William kept his back to Kate until she arrived beside him.), and the Gospel choir and the Reverend Curry's sermon! I also love the monogrammed shoes for the bridesmaids and the embroidered names for the page boys. All the details and the way Kensington Palace kept giving us bits of information as the excitement built!

  24. Oh wow what a day. And so many thoughts on my side-
The bride: I am usually not a fan of Meghan’s style but today she really aced it in my eyes. I loved the veil and the tiara, which was a real surprise. I also loved the style of her gown. I was sure she would opt for something clean and classic. The only let down is the tailoring which was NOT “impeccable” as the bodice seemed to big at some parts but to tight at others.
The bouquet was way too small and looked shredded(?).
Her hair was a mess. It hurts me to say because in the beginning her updo was really great. But a tiara and a veil this long put a lot of strain on a hairstyle and sadly her hair came undone more and more with every minute. The hairdresser really let her down today.
The groom: Great look, loved the beard.
The Queen: It was lovely to see her and the DoE in such good health. Her choice of colours was a bit bold though.
Charles and Camilla: nice to see a light coloured suit. While I like the pale pink on Camilla her dress and hat were not nice at all.
Doria: I love that she didn’t change her hair or took out her nose stud but the mint green didn’t do her any favours and the hat looked like a flat pancake.
In general I geht that the royal guests were kind of underwhelming fashion wise. Maybe except Anne.
The sermon: was the biggest surprise and made me giggle a lot. The reverend has a great voice but the message was a bit all over the place. Additionally his very animated expressions is more something you would expect at a US TV Church Show than at a royal wedding. It wasn’t dignified in my eyes. The reaction of the guests to it were hilarious though, they seemed to be caught off guard.
Church Decoration: I loved the huge amount of flowers but it is so sad all this beauty is dead by tomorrow. The trees W&K chose also gave a nice fairy look but were much more sustainable.
Music: Mostly great. Only complaint: I don’t like Gospel in general. The choir did great though but the song was too much of a boring choice for me. Too predictable in this setting.
All in all: loved the look of bride and groom but there a lot of minor things that made me raise eyebrows. But whatever- I loved every second and I wish them both all the best for their new life as husband and wife.
    C.

    1. The man is the head of the US Episcopalian Church (the US branch of the Anglican Church). He’s quite dignified. This isn’t in response to your comment per se but I’ve read a lot online today about people calling his tone inappropriate and the whole thing has some very unpleasant undertones. He spoke very much in the style of black churches and I think we should be quite cautious about deciding what is dignified or not. Plus I’m quite disappointed with some of the royal family’s reactions. I understand being surprised by the style but open snickering is rude and unacceptable for a group of people who supposedly pride themselves on decorum.

    2. Anonymous, Too20 May 2018 at 00:17

I agree with you, Anonymous, that the RF and guests' reactions were rude. I was shocked to see the snickers on the faces of Beatrice and Eugenie, and even William and Kate. I'm sure they've never heard anyone like him, but that tells me the RF is more provincial than they'd like us to believe. Seriously, with all the world travel they do, the RF should know how to be polite and respectful to other ideas and customs.

      Delete
    3. I agree, Anonymous, Too 00:17. Well said. Disrespect comes in many forms and sometimes from those who think themselves quite high above others. I said it in another thread, but will repeat it here as that one was 300+ when I chimed in.

Recently on tour in Canada the Duchess of Cornwall could not control her giggles during the performance of Inuit throat singing in honour of her and Charles's visit to the Arctic. I was appalled at her rudeness.

Had her staff not prepared her for the traditional art form? Today's reaction on the part of some present was not as severe, but certainly similar.

      Delete
    4. I was horrified by the rude and disrespectful reactions of some members of the royal family. It was absolutely racist.

      Delete
    5. I completely agree with the above, the giggles and side eyes by members of the royal family during the PRESIDING BISHOP (not yelling, just emphasizing) of the Episcopal church’s sermon were beyond inappropriate. I thought these people were raised to have better manners than that. Snobbery. Disgusting. I really hope that Meghan and Harry’s feelings aren’t hurt when they watch the wedding coverage and see that. Ugh. I am a royal watcher, and love love loved the whole day. Beautiful gown, amazingly sentimental veil and bouquet. Lots of love and romance. I hope the behaviour of some of the family members don’t tarnish this special day for them.

      Delete
    6. I was very surprised by the reactions to the sermon as well. Sometimes people smile or giggle when they are uncomfortable. Perhaps that is what happened with so many members of the RF during the sermon (I'm trying to be charitable). Still, very disappointing. I expected more from them.

      Delete
    7. Honestly, I didn’t like his sermon at all. The text was all over the place. Even without his energy (didn’t see much of him as I did stuff while watching but I listened) it was just not a good sermon. The message was nice but got drowned by all the points he touched. Additionally I loved to see the BRF being more human than they ever showed themselves. I giggle about them and their ways often enough (and a lot of other people and things too) to be fine with them doing the same. Feels like people get way to easily personally insulted when they shouldn’t be.

      Delete
    8. I was hoping the royal expressions were edited in and not actually a response to the sermon. Truly, if they were, it can undo all the good will Charles and the Queen no doubt wanted as a result of this day. Harry wiped away tears, I believe during the sermon, but perhaps during Ms. Fellowes reading. Harry appeared genuinely moved. He must have taken the global meaning and not thought of it as reflecting on the RF. Meghan looked a little shell-shocked to me-"Oh Oh. What have we done." I think she glanced over at Harry and quickly turned back when she saw him engaged in the remarks.
Was that side-eye from Zara? Something will have to be done or said by them as a group to dilute the implication of their behavior. I don't want to hear another word about "Fergie." I am shocked. I expected them to show as much class as the Middletons and Ms. Ragland.
Completely inexcusable behavior. On a level with "Princess" Michael's brooch preferences. I just hope they come up with a better explanation than she did. "We all had shellfish, chili, broccoli, and cabbage just before the ceremony and it hit us just when the sermon began. That was a digestive upset, not smirking you saw."

Now that I think of it--why was Meghan's curtsey not shown yet the royal facial expressions during the sermon were? Who was literally calling the shots? I bet some heads will roll before the dust settles on this. It still doesn't excuse the behavior. I am so disappointed. The royal family doesn't deserve Harry and Meghan. That's how I am feeling right now.
I don't recall Charles betraying any ridicule. He may save the day.

I've loved everything, from beginning to end. I loved the guests arrival, some of them so well dressed. My favourites were Amal and Pippa. And the whole ceremony, that was perfect for the beautiful flowers, the music, the bride arrival with bridesmaids and page boys who behaved so well. Everything was appropriate and emotional, but in a certain way relaxed. As for the bride she was superb, her dress was perfect for cut, material and a sartorial ability that doesn't need superfluos ornaments. The veil a piece of art with a simbolic value as well. Really beautiful.

  32. Thank you so much Charlotte for the wonderful recap. I had my laptop already geared up for PBS so when I woke up at 3:30 (slept in the spare room to not disturb dh or the dog) I rolled over and opened it up. Harry and William were just entering the church, the music was understated and elegant. The rest of the wedding was so beautiful as well.

I thought Meghan's dress was gorgeous, so elegantly made! She wore the dress, the dress didn't wear her and they were a perfect match for each other. The tiara suited her so well and is such a pretty one. I was so glad that the little bridesmaids and page boys weren't "overdone" in their wedding costumes; just the right amount of frill and formality. They were so cute, especially the twin boys who handled that beautiful veil.

Doria stole my heart as well--being someone a little older than she is, her face and demeanor reminded me so much of myself at my own daughter's wedding 15 years ago. Like her, our side of the family was vastly outnumbered by the groom's side, they were part of a culture that was different from ours, there was no father to stand beside me, but when I saw my beautiful daughter radiant and happy everything else melted away. I imagine she is on Cloud 9 tonight.

Harry looked in a daze for a lot of the ceremony. A good daze. As if his own dreams were coming true. And that, to me, is the real modern "twist" in this lovely fairytale--the prince has been rescued by his princess from his frenetic, lonely lifestyle. William said it in a cheeky way when the engagement was announced "He'll stop raiding my refrigerator." Harry finally has his own place, and someone who loves him dearly.

    Congratulations to the happy couple.

I will admit, the gown disappointed me. I think it’s very true to her style, and I certainly appreciate the craftsmanship and quality. The gown is stunning when looked at as a work of art. Meghan in the gown left me a bit underwhelmed. Her hair was so casual and messy and it clashed so much with the pristine look of the gown. Minus the Tiara and gown, she looked like shemwas getting married at the beach.

Her veil on the other hand? Spot on and spectacular. Loved it. She looks happy and truly, in the end, that’s all that really matters.

  37. Beautiful wedding. I love her dress and the veil. it was so beautiful flowing behind her. The kids looked wonderful and loved the boys outfits. Doria looked amazing, all the guests looked great. Her evening reception dress is stunning also. The diamond bracelet is spectacular and looked wonderful with the tiara.

When I saw her dress, the neck line looked so familiar. Then it hit me, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark also had the same scoop neck off the shoulders. Such gorgeous dress

  40. Is she wearing Diana's aquamarine cocktail ring?? Looks like it to me in this picture! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DdlLmQmXcAA4JSB.jpg I would love for the newly minted Duchess of Sussex to get all of the aquamarine jewels that were Diana's. Kate can have Diana's sapphire jewels to go with her engagement ring (I don't really care to see Meghan in sapphires since they are just too associated with Kate, IMO), but I'd love to see Meghan get all of Diana's aquamarine jewels.

Either way - whether it was Diana's or not - the ring looks gorgeous on Meghan!

  41. I will be looking at these pictures all day. I love the Stella McCartney gown she wore to the reception. The wedding dress wasn't my style but it worked for her and she looked lovely in it. The bridesmaids and pageboys were so well behaved. It really was a storybook wedding.

  45. I've been trying to work out what Harry said to Meghan when she first arrived at the altar, just after she handed her bouquet off to a bridesmaid. It looked like he was asking if she was nervous, or how she was. Then when she looked at him I think he said, "Look at me. I'm all yours." That was one of my favorite moments :)

  46. Did everyone notice the ring Harry gave Meghan as a wedding gift? It was truly the final very emotional moment of the day for me. The Aquamarine ring is beautiful and one we often saw on Diana. I wonder if Harry also gave Meghan the bracelet with five strands of pearls with Aquamarine clasp that matches.

  47. Today, wedding day happy day, I just decided not to read any negative comments, so whenever I see "gown too big not fitted", I just skip them. I just want to happy and am very happy for Meghan and Harry and nothing will take my joy away. Oh Becca USA I read yours though and the other positive ones though, Lol!

  48. Charlotte, do you know where the bridesmaids and page boys went during the ceremony? Perhaps they disappeared into the chapel behind the altar so they wouldn't have to be on display for the whole service. Maybe Harry and Meghan spent some time with them in the chapel when they went back to (presumably) sign the register?

I think I remember reading during previous royal weddings that the bride and groom also use this time to have a little rest and refreshments. It was a long break that they were gone, enough for 3 songs to be played by the orchestra.

    1. I am sure the children stayed in one of the side rooms but I don’t believe the couple spent time with them during the ceremony. The signing of the documents took about as long as W&K‘s so I would argue that there is no reason to believe they did so.

  49. I think the dress was a much better version of the dress Caroline B. Kennedy wore, which MM liked. It created a stunning backdrop for the tiara, the veil, and Meghan herself. While the dress was underwhelming, I think the total vision was stunning. And that later reception dress is gorgeous. I notied that Kate has a ring on her right hand, whih is unusua, but can't really see it.

I was disappointed at the lack of smiles and interest from the Windsor side during the ceremony. I never saw the Queen smile or Kate look at Harry and Meghan.

Well, can't believe it's over but it was great. :)

  50. Wow what a day. Has made running on 2 hours sleep totally worth it. I think most guests looked pretty good with some exceptions. Some looked stunning. Hello Amal Clooney & Lady Kitty Spencer. My top 2 faves. The RF looked great though I was a bit underwhelmed with Eugenie & Beatrice. I’d tweak here and there. The Queen was very bright & springy. Doria looked fabulous. The soft green with white details was perfection. The kiddos looked too adorable for words. The think the outfits will age well. Certainly the girls will I think, when they’re grown they may not be embarrassed by wearing something so fru-fru.

Aaaaaand Meghan! My goodness. Stunning. Absolutely stunning. My prediction had it in the style of Princess Charlene & CP Victoria. Simple and classic aesthetic. It was perfection. I like lace and bling as much as anyone but I feel like 95% of dresses have them. Something simpler allows the woman who wears it to shine. And her jewelry stood out. This dress will age very well. Not all wedding dresses do. And lastly it fits Meghan’s clean and simpler style to a T. O was initially bummed it wasn’t Stella McCartney but as she designed the second dress I’m a happy girl :)

Her jewelry was very her. Elegant and minimal. That tiara. Swoon! I had no idea it was such a gorgeous piece of bling. If I had I probably would’ve changed my pick. It’s been 6+ decades since it’s been seen publicly and the last pics of it do it no justice. I love something that’s been hiding in the vaults for so long is getting love and attention. I really hope it’ll become one of her go-to tiaras for banquets and such. Am happy we now have high quality pics to drool over.

I was gonna write a long thing about Meghan’s hair because it’s become a thing, but I’m tired and need a nap so maybe I’ll expand later but all I will say is (and I think I’ve said it before) be careful to not dig in on the “messy hair” argument. It has racial undertones. Black women say this all the time and being told “your hair is messy” is like saying “your hair texture is undesirable”. Whether or not it’s meant as such, conscious or unconscious, the history of black women and their hair is long and painful. Just beware. Is all I’m saying.

Now back to going over the best moments and gushing. After a quick nap...

    2. Roxana, you nailed my thoughts exactly. Thank you, now I don't have to write it all out!

I will just add, for me the veil was sheer perfection and made Meghan's overall look sheer perfection.

  51. Thank you Charlotte for the live blog!! What a great addition to the TV coverage that I watched?!! Of course it was all very emotional! I noted Harry wiping away tears a few times during the ceremony and Doria did as well. Meghan looked like a picture and her natural beauty shone through completely! My favorite part was the inclusion of Lady Jane, Diana’s sister in the ceremony and in the exit from the church. I thought it was a perfect nod to Harry’s mum! Also, I am blown away by the couple’s James Bond-esque departure to their reception! Wow!!! They look fabulous and she’s wearing Stella McCartney, one of my favorite designers! It’s been a great day thus far and looking forward to hearing more little tidbits and insider stories about the couple, the wedding and reception!!

  52. I wasn’t able to join in on the live blog, unfortunately, but I had a lovely tea party this morning with a friend to watch the wedding she recorded. It was such a moving service! I started crying during Stand By Me, and I was on the verge of weeping again during Sheku Kanneh-Mason‘s beautiful performance. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I loved Bishop Curry’s sermon. Seeing the love on Harry and Meghan’s faces during their vows just made me smile. I thought Doria looked lovely and I really liked that shade of green on her. Harry looked handsome and very in love. Meghan’s dress is growing on me. I was almost underwhelmed at first, but then I remembered her comment about Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s dress, and now I think it was perfect for her. The jewels were kept to a minimum, as per her usual style, and the tiara looked fabulous. I like that it was one that nobody picked, just like the dress designer. Not in a million years would I have guessed Givenchy. She looked happy, so that’s the most important thing. Overall, she was a beautiful bride. And I’m loving the Stella reception dress! I’m wishing many happy years ahead for the newly wedded Duke and Duchess of Sussex!

๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽ‰ I've been re-watching the footage and looking at the pictures all day even though I saw the live coverage starting at 2 a.m. Mountain Standard Time! ๐Ÿ˜† Meghan was absolutely ethereal especially in that overhead shot of her and her veil with the kids walking behind her! Stunning! I thought her dress fit her beautifully... though I'm wondering if she lost some unexpected weight over the last week due to all the drama and stress...

The highlights for me were when the princes arrived and walked up to the castle... Meghan walking down the aisle followed by those adorable kids... Charles meeting her and accompanying her for that last part ....lovely Doria, oh how she maintained her composure!....and the look of pure love that Harry gave Meghan and she gave him when the veil was lifted ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Finally, Charlotte, thanks a million for not only a beautiful comprehensive post but also the incredible work over the past few days especially!!!

First of all, thank you, Charlotte, for the superb coverage, all the photos, videos and everything else! You deserve a gold medal (and a proper rest ๐Ÿ˜‰)!
Today was an unforgettable day for me. After all the waiting, we were able to enjoy everything we had been looking forward to! From about 9 am (=8 am BST) I had been following MAM and 2-3 channels online. When the guests were starting to arrive I was serving an early lunch (ham and eggs, toast, sausages with mashed potatoes + vegetables, then cake for dessert), we had a British and an American flag on the table and some photographs of the RF nearby. Then - luckily - my sons had an assignment outside and I could get back to bed and watch and no-one laughed at me when I was screaming: "oh - there are the Middletons! - oh, that's the Rolls-Royce with Meghan and her Mum! - oh, Harry and William, both in uniforms..." etc.etc. ๐Ÿ˜†Enough of my family narrative, just tell me please: Does a person who is lying in bed teary-eyed and waving a British flag at the laptop screen qualify as nuts?!
I loved the ceremony, I loved Meghan's gown, the children, her mother almost crying but so brave, William supporting his brother, Charles escorting Meghan, the Wessexes explaining things to James, Anne in her pretty dress, the bishop quoting Teilhard de Chardin, the kiss, Prince Philip looking 10 years younger as he waved the newlyweds off... but if I were to pick one moment, it would be Harry's expression as he was waiting for Meghan to come and join him, those last seconds. Such tenderness, almost fragility; such honesty, such hopefulness.
I hope they will be very happy together and I'm so grateful I could follow their Big Day with you all! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

It was an exceptionally special Royal wedding. Unlike any other because the Royal family has changed. It has grown into something much better than even 20 years ago. Even 7 years ago.
And Harry was the happiest man alive. And it showed. That was precious and pure Joy. ๐Ÿ˜Š

    3. Zora, you are NOT nuts. What a kind hearted, lovely comment. It sounds like you had a very happy, and busy, day. :-)

I enjoyed the wedding and admit to watching it more than once. Besides, it's easy to miss things when you're trying to take it all in and your mind and emotions are all over the place.

I loved the simplicity of the gown and the tiara, with its clean lines, was a perfect match. The rest of the diamonds weren't too shabby either! And the second gown was very chic and sexy. Simply stunning. Truly! And I love that Harry gave Meghan Diana's aquamarine ring. Hope to see it...a lot! (Keep it coming, boys!!)

I thought Doria handled the day with class and dignity. I felt for her on her own, and perhaps people should apologize to Harry for his family comment shortly after Christmas. Cleary, the man knew more than we gave him credit for.

I did see Kate smile more than once, but I thought she was tired. Understandable really. I love that she repeated such a special dress and I *think* I mentioned it as a possibility some time ago. The hat was lovely with it.

I admit to thinking about Diana throughout the coverage and it looked to me as though Harry was deep in thought at times. All perfectly normal, really; she was their mother and number one cheerleader. I'd like to think that she was looking down and smiling, and perhaps even gave Charles a thumbs up.

I was happy to see Charles accompany Meghan and then her mother during and after the ceremony. What a surreal experience it must have been for Doria and to face it alone...yikes!

I was happy to see PP at the Queen's side on this special day. A bit of relief for everyone, me thinks.

I admit to being surprised that Sarah did not sit with her daughters and Andrew. I understand protocol, but I had assumed (yes, I know...) that if she was being invited to a family wedding after all these years, that it wasn't a conditional invite. Would it have been too much to have her seated between Beatrice and Eugenie? I know she's divorced, but I just thought it was odd to have her walk down alone and then sit away from her family. Especially given the "softer" vibe of this wedding.

The little ones...well, just beyond adorable. They paired them up nicely (apparently!) and how wise to have them "keep walking" so that they weren't expected to sit through the ceremony, and what a relief for the parents. Lol.

I thought Sophie and Autumn looked great. Lovely outfits.

The only thing I wasn't too crazy about was the cake; I thought it was somewhat "bland" for the setting.

Oh, and could they have asked for better weather?? I don't recall another royal wedding when the sun stayed out throughout the day.

I had thought the dress would be quite simple, going by Meghan's style so far. It was a little more plain that I had thought, though. I do like it a lot, I had just thought it would be a little more fashion forward. Perhaps more fitted on top.

My favorite part of the day was when Harry and William walked down to the west steps together. Seeing those two together, looking so dapper and handsome, as at William's wedding also, was emotional for me because I think of Diana and how she isn't here to see them men they've become. And I'm still reminded of the two boys who walked behind her at her funeral, just two boys without their mum.

I'm curious about the lack of Meghan's family from her mother's side. I thought she was close to them and had expected to see some of them there today. It made me feel sad to think that her mom was her only family there.

  60. ๐ŸŒธ WOW ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

Loved Charles very handsomely and in no uncertain terms, extending his arm to Meghan to walk her down the aisle. wow
Loved Charles reaching out to Doria to go sign the registry. wow wow
Loved Charles walking arm in arm with Doria and Camilla. wow wow wow

Loved Harry saying Thanks Pa and You look beautiful. I have missed you.
Loved Harry and Meghan laughing, smiling and chatting with each other during their day. That’s how it should be, yeh?
    Loved how they held hands.
Loved how Harry caressed Meghan’s hand and lovingly and gently pulled back her veil.

Loved how William was there by his brother’s side.
Loved how, only seven years later, William is standing on the steps of the Church with a loving wife and two of his three children.

Loved Harry wearing a ring. (I want to see it.)
Loved how Harry picked forget-me-nots for the bouquet in honor of Diana.
Love how they included their flower from Not Cot.
Love how they carried on the tradition with myrtle from Queen Victoria.

Will they put the bouquet on the tomb of the unknown soldier? I hope so.

Loved the music “The Lord Bless and Keep You” (Psalm 6:3, the Priestly Blessing)
Loved “Stand By Me” (about 1/4 of a box of kleenexes on that one)
Didn’t like the processional female solo at all. (Was kind of eerie.)

Loved the cake stand. It made the cake.
Loved Doria’s outfit. Loved her regal composure. Loved her warm smile and loving eyes.
Wish they had had a plus one for her. She looked so all alone sitting there by herself.

Didn’t like Meghan’s gown as much as I had hoped.
She was making the center stone of the tiara and The Commonwealth Veil the focal points.
I think they could have made the veil shorter and more in proportion to the gown and still have beautifully and artistically have incorporated all 53 flowers and the wheat.

The ceremony was a civil rights plea.
Etta James “Amen/This Little light of Mine” was the civil rights anthem in Martin Luther King’s day.
And the message from Reverend Curry was a fundamental one, although I thought his delivery was a little animated and contrived.
I fervently pray it didn’t offend Her Majesty. Because if anyone has shown LOVE to Meghan and others, she has. AND, the Royal Family has showered Meghan with unprecedented favor, blessings and LOVE.
You can tell by the astonished and dumbfounded looks of the Royal Family that his message may have seemed ill placed. The Queen actually “ruffled” in her seating position. I saw it.

I loved how Harry seemed like the happiest man on earth. ๐ŸŽ‰
I loved how Meghan was also always in the moment, thoroughly enjoying their day. And how, against all odds and tradition her thrust was to stay true to herself.

I will be watching this wedding again and probably again after that in the future. I am beyond happy for Harry and Meghan.๐Ÿค—

It was truly and literally a phenomenal and beautiful page of history. ๐Ÿ‘‘

    1. I must admit I was a bit concerned about Reverend Curry's wedding message. It was more like a sermon and too long in my opinion. Some of it was quite good but got a little out of hand. And there were those candles wondering if they were going to be knocked over accidently. I've never heard a minister/reverend speak like this at a wedding. And I have attended black weddings, too.

\What I wonder about: how did they make that cake go around to 600 people and will anyone actually eat it? how did they get Prince George to wear that frockcoat-threats or bribery? the kids were on their own once walking down the aisle and behaved beautifully (other than some minor elbowing by two older girls)- again, threats or bribery? will the BRF ever have another MOTB who has dreadlocks and a nose piercing and is, in all, a total class act? are there any flowers left growing in the UK?

  69. So stunning. I still can’t believe the two of them stood their together so much in love and we’ve been speculating, hoping and willing this day to happen long before the engagement was announced.

I must admit the tears were streaming as that beautiful music started for her walk up the aisle. The sunlight - the veil - the sparkle. Elegant modern, romantic. Doria was so dignified. The proud glances. Such grace from Meghan and her mother.
Thank you so much for your live blog Charlotte - I must admit the tv coverage / camera angles didn’t quite live up to the coverage of WK but I guess the chapel is so small the angles are all distorted. I turned to the blog for the detail - the dress/veil was stunning and loved the commonwealth flower detail.

  75. This was the best wedding I ever viewed. Harry's face was priceless. He clearly opened his heart and spirit to Meghan. IT was beautiful to watch and I said to my friend who watched with me all night here in AZ USA "For he shall restore the years the locusts have eaten." Harry lost his mother at such a young age and had deep wounds and now God has restored him to wholeness and a new chance at life with the love of his life, Meghan. Meghan, who is 36, the same age that Diana was when she died. You can't make this stuff up. What a beautiful spiritual moment of resurrection and his face showed that throughout the ceremony. He is a new man now and even the reading which talked of the "winter is now behind us and spring is coming new" reflected this.

I thought Meghan was radiant and loved the simplicity of her dress though I thought the train was a bit long. I like her whispy hair. Loved their night clothes both. Harry looked really sharp. Wonder if Meghan helped him with that!

It was just a beautiful day. Happy to have witness this moment in history. It's nice to be celebrating something so joyous. THey will do great work together.

Thanks Charlotte for all you do. You must be exhausted! Blueskygal AZ USA

    1. ๐ŸŒธ Libby. That was love. The Royal Family has lavished love, favor, blessings and gifts, including a fairytale wedding, upon Meghan and her mother. Lavishly. ๐Ÿ‘ฐ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ฐ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ’

In light of all that, I hope that pastor’s animated sermon didn’t offend them. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

From their expressions they were dumbfounded and astonished at his words and delivery.
Me thinketh his message, although well-meaning, was ill placed. He was belaboring the obvious
(in a long drawn out, almost accusatory way)
to people who had generously and lovingly made not only the whole day possible, but even the marriage itself. No offense to anyone who liked his sermon but I found it to be a little pompous and pretentious, if not bombastic. Just my sincere opinion. I felt for the Royal family. They have been more than gracious and loving.

    2. @surfer girl - agree about the sermon - It felt preachy & OTT to me but of course there will be differing opinions about that. Yes, expressions on some the royals’ faces ... priceless.

I thought it was a beautiful day all in all so I'm ashamed to admit that Bishop Curry's part of the ceremony was the only part I couldn't quite watch without cringing.

Though Trixie in NC (towards the bottom of this comments section) brought up a great observation that Billy Graham, whom the Queen admired, had a simliar style. I just peeked at an old video of one of Billy Graham's sermons & yes he really did. I just thought some of the content & theatrics weren't fit for the setting, but that's just my personal preference of course.

I really loved the dress. So timeless abd let the focus remain on that amazing veil. The evening dress aas also stunning.
Favourite parts of the wedding in no particular order: the cheeky smiles of the pageboys with their missing front teeth, Harry saying thanks Pa, the choir singing stand by me, Charles assisting Doria when they were witbesses to the signing of tue certificates, how everyone was confortable singing the hymns except some of the American guests. And of course the pure joy of Harry and Meghan the entire time. It was of the entire world was not watching, it was just the two of them in the chapel.

Thanks for the amazing work you do Charlotte!

She wouldn’t want it sitting in a drawer somewhere gathering dust. She would want it gracing the boys’ beloved wives. I hope Harry and Meghan won’t be shy about enjoying it and flaunting it. When people see it all they will think of Diana. It is a win win situation. ๐Ÿ’Ž
I am eager to see them unapologetically enjoy all that the Monarchy has to offer. Like previewing the menus to eateries they visit during events and saying hey can we eat now we’re hungry? We read the menu before we came and we know what we want. (yep. They did that.) Like taking friends up on offers and spending the New Year’s in Monaco? (yep. They did that.) Hey? Why not. Work regally. Play regally. Make it work prosperously and healthfully for them. They are already making strides towards that. It will be fun to watch. Making the system work for them. “Harry and Meghan things.” Not business as usual. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜‰

  80. They are so beautiful! What an emotional day.I am at a loss for words, but it was just perfection. Meghan's evening gown is gorgeous, and Diana's ring, what a gesture by Harry. We wish them a lifetime of love, happiness and peace. Thank you Charlotte for your amazing coverage.

  81. Charlotte, thank you SO much for such fantastic coverage. My sweet hubby woke me up as requested (I'm not a morning person) by whispering "Royal Wedding" in my ear, and he has the live coverage pulled up, ready to go. I'm lucky. :)

Adored her dress, even though it's not everyone's taste. As I was 35 when I got married and wanted something similar, I think it's extremely appropriate and classic, and boy, does she have the neck for it. Lovely gown and gorgeous veil. The tiara sparkled like crazy.

Loved the arrivals. Doria looked so happy, but yes, even with the courtesy shown her, I was sorry she was alone. Charles looked charmed. Utterly charmed.

The carriage procession was so meaningful. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen while watching. How completely overwhelming that must have been for Meghan - in wonderful ways.

I had forgotten how torturous the wait is afterward. Ready to party but no photos appearing, so I loved seeing them off to the reception. Harry looks dashing! Meghan, gorgeous, and of course that aquamarine. Wow.

    A perfect day.

  86. I loved the stunning simplicity of the gown, the ethereal effect and symbolism of the veil, as well as the exquisite tiara. It was a perfect complement to the rest of the ensemble which needed no further adornment beyond the simple earrings and bracelet. Because I prefer minimalism in fashion choices, this is look is my favourite of all the British Royals since the Queen mum was wed. It also reminds me of a number of the Nordic royal brides in the past whose wedding gowns I found quite lovely.

The Stella McCartney is also a smashing look. And Diana's rocks! Nice of her to have this one when Kate has the other. (Who needs Brenda's?)

  87. Meghan looked exactly like how I expected. I suspected she would go with a simple gown - wasn't expecting lace or beading - and that her veil would be hand embroidered and the accessory to an elegant dress. I believe Princess Margaret also chose a rather sleek dress. Her gown gave her jewelry the ability to really shine and they did. Great choice of tiara - so much sparkle - and the Cartier bracelet was beautiful.

I thought her veil could have been a little bit shorter - so that managing it was easier - but it did make a statement.

WOW - when I saw that evening gown for the second party. Not surprised, that dress - both of them in fact - looked every party Meghan. Would love to see it from the back - how low did it go? Really wish they would have posed and hugged next to the car. Noticed the aquamarine ring and was wondering about it. So happy that it was Diana's. When I first saw the tiara I thought it might have been a necklace from Diana's collection made into a tiara. Harry did give up the sapphire engagement to William and this is a perfect replacement.

Perhaps the Cartier bracelet was a gift from Charles?

I thought that the majority of all the guests looked amazing. So well dressed. It was just as amazing as an Oscars red carpet. The colors, the designers, and of course the hats. And very dapper gentlemen.

Loved the entire day - sure wish we could see the pictures of the evening reception. We're missing out on more lovely clothes.

Dying to see the wedding portraits - how long will it take to get those photos? The bridesmaids and pageboys were bunched up and I couldn't see their outfits clearly enough. Great styling that complimented both the bride and groom.

  88. ๐ŸŒธ The reception earrings seem to be 5 emerald cut diamonds about 1 to 2 carats each set at an angle. So that’s 10 stones total. They kind of look like they might be part of a set with that humongous diamond bracelet that she wore earlier.

  90. Charlotte, I just can't begin to express in adequate just the right words. But I will say this your blog is the best I've ever seen. Your attention to detail in every area we might not have known. From Windsor Castle being the oldest castle in the world to what each flower was and where from in Duchess Meghan's bouquet. Thank you for sharing your creative talent with us and all your efforts to your blog.

I watched on PBS which featured the BBC channel. I wanted to feel like I was in England.

It was a very moving wedding. I teared up several times. Meghan dressed in exquisite simplicity. Everything in detail had meaning I would not have known without Mad about Meghan. I can't even begin to express this wedding ceremony in how I feel. It would be too long.

This couple are truly in love and it was so beautiful to observe. Congratulations Duke Harry and Duchess Meghan of Sussex. May your love continue to grow on your journey together.

  94. I agree completely. Whether people liked her dress or didn’t, they have to admit she looked beautiful and radiantly happy. How can people quibble about style after watching those two so transparently in love share their joyful day with all of us?

The fairy tale today wasn’t the prince and the commoner but a glimpse of two people who love each other and who hope to make a difference in the world together. The royal trappings are just the icing on the cake!

BTW, I also thought she was the most beautiful royal bride I’ve ever seen. That moment when she stepped out of the car was magic to me.

I am torn on the dress for a couple reasons. I think if she would have added more detail to it, I wouldn't have noticed the veil as much, or the jewels as much. I think the dress was so simple (elegantly simple), it really showed off the tiara, veil, earrings, wedding ring and bracelet. On the other hand, I was at first, underwhelmed by the dress, but the more I got the whole picture, I kinda thought it was perfection with everything she chose. I like that the tiara was not one anyone thought of. It looked beautiful on her and I like that there was a flower, like her mom calls her. Very apropos.

I was hoping to actually see some bespoke wedding earrings, like Kate had, that represented her (like Kate and the acorns), but maybe that's not Meghan. All in all, she was stunning and it was a day that I sigh from sublime cloud 9.

I thought Doria was the picture of class (although I didn't care for the nose ring-I'm kinda a less-is-more kinda gal). I thought it was very sweet how Charles walked her down the stairs with Camilla- a very sweet, embracing gesture. I am sure they have a lot in common being single parents and even if not a lot in common, they probably share a sentiment that only they (single parents) could understand. Very touching and warm.

Charlotte, if/when there is any more news on the Cartier bracelet, would you post? I'd love to see it close up and know more about it-and I am not in the know, like you are ;)

Also, where was Charlotte when walking down the aisle? I didn't see her.

My last comment is: so many people seemed unlike themselves today. Oprah looked tiffed, the Queen didn't smile in any picture I saw, Kate was not herself (she has a pass though, having just given birth!), Camilla seemed not as smiley. I don't know what was going on but people seemed out of sorts.

I thought Meghan looked stunning and loved the Art Deco tiara which suits her so well. I wish her dress had accentuated her waist a little more. As a Canadian, it was touching to learn that the flowers of every Commonwealth country were on her veil. Harry and Megan looked so much in love it made me cry. What a fabulous day!

  98. Surfer girl, I thought everything was lovely. I did see the uncomfortableness of the Royal Family and others as Bishop Curry spoke. As a woman of color, Evangelical preaching is common every Sunday, and the choir has a Gospel flavor. But I do understand, however, it probably took a lot of people by surprise. The Duchess of Sussex has embraced the British heritage of her husband, but she can not neglect her heritage. So I do hope everyone understands the perspective of the Duchess of Sussex. Her marriage was a reflection of who she is as well as that of her husband. The Duchess of Sussex looked beautiful, true to her style of fashion. I admire her confidence and courage. Charlotte, this was a lovely day and you have done another magnificent job. Thank you.

    1. Marcia,
Hi! As someone who has grown up hearing evangelical preaching for much of my life, I was very moved by Bishop Curry’s message. I could see where it would be a little surprising for anyone not used to it, but I loved it. I loved all the the ties to Meghan’s heritage.

      Delete
    2. Perfectly stated, Marcia. It would be unfair for none of Meghan to shine through in the ceremony. It was HER wedding after all. I enjoyed Bishop Curry and I'm glad he shook it up a bit. The Brits could use a little more soul once in a while, I think :)

      Delete
    3. ๐ŸŒธ Thanks, Marcia. ๐Ÿ˜Š I understand all that, and have sat under some powerful evangelical Southern preaching myself. The pastor who helped me through my husband’s passing and who did the message at his funeral is a man of color and at times doesn’t mince words in his messages.
I just hope the Royal Family, to whom the form of delivery seemed startling, I hope they figure it out and not take it as an affrontal. I don’t want any hard feelings for Meghan from a family who has thus far phenomenally embraced her. Wow do I hope that. It did ruffle the Queen’s feathers. I don’t know what outlet I was watching when I saw that as I was network surfing. But I did see it.
We’ll pray and hope for the very best, okay. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks Charlotte for the outstanding coverage and the links to the different streams. I'm on the west coast of the U.S. so stayed up all night and logged on the MAM at 12 midnight. Watching the streaming on Sky til it cut out (maybe just me), then the Washington Post, then PBS, then the Royal channel, I was able to watch the entire event. Being able to read your updates filled in the gaps created by not having commentary on the streams.

A couple of thoughts. Her overall look was sensational. The dress worked so well with the veil and the jewelry. The tiara was perfect. Did she wear her earring as her "something old" and the tiara as "something borrowed"?

I thought her hair looked great and thought at least we won't be hearing comments about it since it was a neat updo and no dangly bits. So much for that theory. LOL.

Her mom looked stunning and it was wonderful how Prince Charles took her under his wing.

About the preacher, while I realize his style may have been a bit shocking for non-Americans, I think it fits with Harry and Meghan's desire to make change in the world. They provided him with a world-wide audience for his message about love. I hope I'm explaining this properly.

I think the whole ceremony was joyous, fitting, and truly represented the two of them as a couple. Seeing how much in love they are was wonderful. They have such an exciting future together. We should all be so blessed.

One little side note: I expect to see video of Oprah looking for her seat become a meme. LOL.

Lovely day. Lovely everything. Got up at 4 to watch. Went to a party at 8 am to watch again! Cried when William and Harry came out. Cried when Lady Jane Fellowes read the scripture. I kept looking at her and imagining what Diana would look like now.

I was curious about the family who were present on the chapel steps when Harry and Megan came out. It was parents (Doria, Charles, Camilla) and Cambridges and.... Lady Jane. No other aunts or uncles present on the steps. Is this significant? I don't want to look for Diana-links where there are none. There was lots of misinformation on Twitter about the empty seat in front of the Queen being in remembrance which was not true. But I did wonder about Lady Jane on the steps.

Super happy and thrilled with the day. And especially the McCartney dress for the evening!

I was up at 3am here in California to watch and it was a really nice ceremony. Overall The dress was very underwhelming. You could do simple but still add a bit of drama, you are joining the royal family, if you don’t pull out all the stops now when can you? I loved the veil and tiara, however the hair was awful and falling out of place when she got there. You can tell they love each other and I wish them
Happiness. As for Kate, the woman just had a 3rd child less than a month ago so likely was not up to smiling or probably even being there so I can understand why she didn’t seem cheery.
