The Duchess of Sussex to Join The Queen for Day of Engagements!

With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex expected to return from their honeymoon later this week, we are looking forward to seeing them on Saturday morning for Trooping the Colour, the Queen's annual birthday parade. It turns out Trooping isn't the only day we'll be seeing Meghan with Her Majesty; on Thursday, 14 June, the Duchess will join the Queen in Chester for a day of engagements.

It's going to be an incredibly exciting day, not only marking Meghan's first engagements with the monarch, it will also be the first time she has publicly carried out official duties without Harry. It is understood Meghan has spent quite a lot of time with the Queen and the two are said to be very fond of each other. The Telegraph's Hannah Furness described the news as "a remarkable welcome into the royal family". It is the ultimate seal of approval and show of support as Meghan begins her life as a working royal.

More form The Telegraph:

'After marrying into the Royal family less than a month ago, the Duchess of Sussex is to embark on a lifetime of public service from the most glamorous of events to the rather mundane.
She will do so, it seems, under the guidance of no less than Her Majesty the Queen, who has invited the newlywed Duchess to spend a full day of public engagements with her in Chester next week.
In a remarkable welcome into life in the Royal family, the Queen has asked the Duchess to accompany her on three engagements in a gesture likely to be interpreted as a very visible show of support.
The decision to invite the Duchess to accompany the Queen could be considered a striking show of faith in the Royal family's newest recruit, who married Prince Harry less than a month ago.'

What's on the itinerary for the day? The Queen and Meghan will begin by officially opening the Mersey Gateway Bridge - a toll bridge over the River Mersey, at Catalyst Science Discovery Centre.

Next, they will officially open The Storyhouse Theatre, a fitting engagement for former actress Meghan. The Telegraph reports "They will then visit the Storyhouse Theatre, a community cultural centre which includes a cinema, library and will soon have productions of A Little Night Music, The Crucible and Swallows and Amazons on its stage. The Duchess, who worked as a television actress in drama Suits until she became engaged to Prince Harry, is expected to meet young performers, as well as watching the Queen unveil a plaque to commemorate its opening." According to The Chester Chronicle, Storyhouse has sold more than 180,000 tickets to theatre shows and events and had more than 250 cinema screenings with 30,000 cinema tickets purchased. Almost 150 community groups from across the borough use Storyhouse as their home. In its first year the library loaned 258,000 books. Children’s book loans have increased by 50% since Chester library moved to Storyhouse.

From there, the royals will attend a luncheon at Chester Town Hall where they will be joined by local dignitaries and those involved in the community. It promises to be a fantastic day!

Invictus 2020... In other news, Kensington Palace confirmed, the 2020 Invictus Games will be held at The Hague. It was said initially the games would only run for five years, however due to their enormous success, it has been decided they will continue on a biennial basis. Prince Harry said "we have a social responsibility to continue this for a long as it's needed." The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be planning a visit to the Netherlands in late July - it ties in very nicely with this announcement.

Invictus Games Foundation Patron, HRH The Duke of Sussex said:

"I am delighted to announce that The Hague is taking up the challenge of hosting the fifth Invictus Games in 2020. The city will soon become the motivation for hundreds of servicemen and women using the Invictus Games to inspire their recovery from physical and mental injuries. The Netherlands has supported the Games from the very beginning, and I know that everyone there will fully get behind and support the soldiers and veterans who have served their countries so bravely. We have already seen in London, Orlando, and Toronto just how exciting hosting the Invictus Games can be, and I know this will be an incredible experience for everyone in the Hague as they embrace the Invictus spirit in 2020."

The Invictus Games The Hague 2020 Chairman, Lt Gen Mart de Kruif said:

“We are very honoured that the Invictus Games is coming to The Hague. 2020 is an important milestone for The Netherlands, marking 75 years since liberation. The Invictus Games provides the perfect opportunity for us to link the past to the present by paying a tribute to wounded, injured and sick service personnel who served, and are serving, the military. These role models have shown that the strength of the human spirit is unbeatable.”

A Trip to LA?... The Mirror reports Harry and Meghan are planning to visit Los Angeles officially in the near future. "The young royals are keen to raise awareness of charities and other causes close to their hearts in Meghan’s home town, according to sources. The former Suits actress worked in a soup kitchen on the infamous Skid Row when she was just 13. Now she and husband Harry hope to bring attention to the plight of the homeless. They will also champion the LGBT community." The newspaper also reports it's likely we'll see Harry and Meghan at Wimbledon.

I'm very excited and can't wait to see HM and Meghan together! They are so different and it's going to be immensely interesting to watch them! I think it's both very kind and smart of HM to take Meghan with her.

"Ultimate seal of approval" - THANKS, Charlotte - those were the words I was searching for!! ;-)))
I´m SO glad that this is happening! What better start into "official" royal life than accompanying HM!!! I thought HM might like how Meghan approaches her new life, but you never know... I´m SO glad Meghan has her full support and I´m sure this will help her immensely in the weeks and months to come...
I´ve always thought that Meghan joining the BRF could be a HUGE opportunity for them. I´m SUPER excited for her and for what is going to happen. It´s going to be a busy, busy year for us watchers... ;-)))) "Watch this space"!!! :-))))

    1. I always thought the Queen rather liked her, especially since she has an incredible attitude toward work, as you said. It's nice to see these official welcoming gestures, though! I like the thought of the Queen and Meghan being close. I hope we see Meghan and Harry with her more in the future. I remember Kate doing a few outings with the Queen after the wedding, but those have largely ceased. I know they don't want to bunch the royals altogether at events, but still. It's a nice show of support -- kind of a "hey, we really do still like one another" thing.

I'm anticipating the announcement of Meghan's patronages and am just so glad that she's choosing to throw herself into the work instead of easing in. I, too, suspected that if she approached her role this way that she'd provide a tremendous boost for the royal family. I really can't wait to see how the rest of this year unfolds!

      Delete
    2. @Becca - I too am hugely anticipating the announcement of Meghan's patronages. What's your prediction on when we'll hear something? I hope that by end of July we'll hear about the "small project" she has been working on behind the scenes and then hopefully by end of summer (or at the latest before Invictus Sidney) we'll hear about ~5 patronages. Plus maybe more by end of year?

Also, my prediction about the "small project" is that it might be the Duchess will oversee a project to replicate the Chester Storyhouse model to other towns around the UK. That would be an amazing legacy project for Meghan and fits with her performing arts background and interest in communication. The Sussex Storyhouses... :)

      Delete
    3. Err, there's a funding question about replicating the 'Storeyhouse'.

      Delete
    4. I, too, hope and suspect that we'll hear something by the end of July. I would imagine that Meghan would already have some ideas based off of the behind the scenes work she's been doing since the engagement was announced, so perhaps we'll get lucky and hear about a good chunk of patronages by the end of the summer? With more announced as the year goes on. That's my guess, but it's probably too much too soon haha

      Delete
  5. Wow, this is all so exciting. I'm really glad that we're getting some immediate publicized engagements instead of the summer being some sort of behind the scenes "listening" tour. I'm so ready to see Meghan get down to work so this is massively exciting! And, to be out with the queen so quickly. I was convinced the queen approved to begin with, and then seeing the queen wear a brooch to the wedding that was part of the set belonging to Meghan's tiara. And now this? Definitely welcoming her into the family and showing her approval. Yay!! Can't wait to see what they wear and how they interact.

A couple of small complaints though...I really wish the BRF website would get their stuff together. Nothing shows up for Meghan yet when you search the court circular link or the future engagements link. The website usability is so awful to begin with but it's very annoying that neither the garden party nor these upcoming events show up for Meghan :( what's up with that!

My other complaint is that I really hope the stories about visiting LA and Wimbledon are not true. Neither one seem in line with what (IMO) she should be focusing on: work and learning about the UK! And, indeed, that is what the press release from KP said way back when - that the end of the year would be busy while Meghan learns more about communities and charity work _in the UK_.

But anyway, back to the fun, happy stuff! I am soooo pleased about Invictus. I don't know how to link to the specific video, but I watched the longer Invitus video this morning and the whole time I was like, I'm not crying...you're crying! lol. Here is the longer video if anyone wants to watch - it's wonderful!! To hear all of the athletes talking about what the IG have meant to them and how they've healed through sport and even training for the games...OMG, sniff sniff! https://twitter.com/KensingtonRoyal/status/1003551168168124416

I hope that Meghan will be going to the Netherlands with Harry. I can't wait to see her and Maxima together. OMG, that will be amazing! Hopefully they will do a tiara dinner too so we'll get to see Meghan sparkling in diamonds again. Yes, please!

    1. Hoping and praying for Meghan/Maxima! it would be the ultimate and great PR for the upcoming games in the Netherlands! I would love it if Meghan starts to form bonds with other European royalty.

    3. @Eve - my husband codes websites for a living and other IT software type of stuff (of which I have no real understanding, lol). I totally volunteer him to revamp the BRF website :) ...and in order for him to do the job properly, I will need to have a series of meetings and luncheons with the Sussexes.

    6. I agree with your website opinion but I beg to differ about Wimbledon and LA. It sounds as though LA will be a 'working tour' more or less and it will be nice for Meghan & Harry to visit with her mom and possibly meet some friends. As for Wimbledon, Kate is patron so a little show of support for her sister-in-law and as we all know. . . . "all work and no play. . . ." Everyone needs a little down time.

    8. Hmm...I do believe a trip to California is very important. It is her home town first. It is a major city in need of lots of attention in the poorer districts. It is not all sunshine you know. They could do much to draw peoples attention to the poor and disadvantaged. If Wimbledon is frivolous why on earth was the Queen a patron for so long? Wimbledon brings a great boost to the economy and puts the UK on the map for many spectators. All work and no play makes for very unpleasant people. I'm just thrilled to be able to keep up with H&M.

      Delete
    9. I agree re: California. LA is her home town. And as far as we know her mother is staying there. I would prepare for Harry and Meghan taking several private trips there over the course of their life together as well they should. I think it’s great that she’s thrown herself fully into the UK but she shouldn’t have to never visit her home town again. And I think it’s icing on the cake if they combine any trips with charity or higher profile work. They’re not a model that has ever been seen before with an American marrying into the Royal Family. (I’m not counting Wallis for obvious reasons) so I think it’s great they will make their own way and perhaps have a slightly more international flair. I don’t think it will subtract from their work being predominantly UK based.

      Delete
    10. Is the Mirror considered a generally reliable and accurate source regarding the younger royals?

      Delete
    11. The trip to LA is probably an opportunity for Meghan to visit her father and to introduce him to Harry.

      Delete
    12. @Anon at 20:44 and USA Granny at 20:24. I feel like my comments were not really clear. I don't have any issue with them visiting CA - especially privately, as I'm sure they did in the past and will do again in the future to see her mother.

My issue is that they just got married and we were told that the rest of this year would be devoted to Meghan learning about the UK, visiting communities in the UK that she will "serve" as a royal, choosing patronages, etc. Personally, I think it would be a bad look if they were to fly off to another (non-Commonwealth) country for charity work - even though it's a wonderful cause to return to the 'skid row' section where she used to volunteer as a child. I feel like - or rather, I worry that the outcry would be that she is supposed to be doing charity work in the UK.

If they were to come to the US at some point in the future - or if it's a UK charity having an event in the US (like Invictus did in FL), that feels different to me. Again, this is all just my opinion and comes from my concern that Meghan will be criticized if people feel she's not doing enough, or if the media starts to turn on her or whatever. I am a complete Meghan-Harry stan, so my concern comes strictly from a place of wanting everyone to love her and be happy with the job she's doing!!

Regarding Wimbledon, again, it just feels too soon (IMO, again) for her to be attending events like tennis, galas, movie premieres. I'd much rather - for the time being (throughout the summer, at least!) - be doing the ribbon-cutting, factory openings, bread-and-butter type events where huge crowds can show up for her and she can mingle with more ordinary people. Basically, I don't want there to be any ammunition for people to criticize her and - again JMO - when I see the 4 younger royals doing primarily "fun" engagements (premieres, galas rubbing shoulders with investment bankers or celebrities, polo, yachting lessons, etc.)...and hear them saying they want to eschew the ribbon-cutting ones, I get somewhat annoyed. I want them to enjoy these "fun" events, but also do lots of "ordinary person" events - similar to the ones that Harry and Meghan did together during the engagement period. Their visits to the Brixton radio station, the STEMettes, the World AIDS Day event...those are more what I would like to see from the Sussexes and Cambridges too.

    13. Remember, Will & Kate visited L.A. on the last leg of their Post-Wedding North American Tour! So there's already a precedent. W&K attended a Bafta Red Carpet Event (remember how Kate glowed & sparkled?) & William played in a charity Polo Event (where Kate chatted with Reese Witherspoon etc.) then they also attended an Art Room type place for children & I believe they did something to support the hiring of Military Veterans? So hopefully H&M can make similar trips to L.A. to see Doria & then take part in The Work aspect of things! :)

    14. Becca, thank you for pointing Out Willam and Kates California trip. My first thought when I read they might be coming to LA was her parents. Maybe they are planning this work trip around her charities and a way for Harry to meet his father in law. It would be so much easier for him to come to LA than for them to go to Mexico. I am so excited to see what summer brings with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex!!! Kathy from NJ

I’m confused, if the Storyhouse theatre has already been selling so many tickets, why does the information say they are they opening it? It seems like it’s been around for a while. Maybe I’m reading it wrong and just need more coffee.

I’m excited to see her day with the Queen. What great timing to have such a show of support right away. I hope they continue the Invictus Games for many many years. What a wonderful show of support for the wounded service men and women. As another commenter said, I think it would be best for them to stick to commonwealth visits for a while. As much as I’d love to see them here, I think it would be better to wait on a Los Angeles visit (unless it’s an unofficial trip to visit her mom).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Jessica - I think it is just the 'official royal opening' not the actual opening of the building. Maybe like a new hospital wing (that has already been in use) gets a 'royal opening' where they hang a plaque or whatever. That's how I interpreted it.

      Delete
  9. inthekitchen, I do not agree with your complaint. What if Meghan "works and learns about the UK" and then goes to Wimbledon. What is wrong with working and then enjoying tennis?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Anon - Nothing is wrong with it in theory...but my main concern is that she will have tons of critics (and the media) just waiting to pounce on her for the slightest infraction - or made up infraction. So...I don't want them (the critics) to have that opportunity!

Again, in theory, I have no real issue with them going to Wimbledon, but I want her to have a series or regular work outings under her belt before that so that no one (critics/haters/racists/tabloid media) can accuse her of being lazy or only wanting to do fun engagements.

IMO it will be important for Meghan to do regular 'bread and butter' type engagements and not only parties or galas or ascot type of engagements. And, honestly, she'll have the rest of her life to go to Wimbledon each year...for me, I want her to show that she means to work first, and enjoy the other many perks of being royal second. JMO though...

      Delete
    2. Its the summer and those engagements allow Meghan to learn more about her adopted country. The galas are also a part of royal life. I think she will have a balanced calendar of events.

      Delete
    3. She will always be criticized for anything as we have seen so far. Let Meghan live her life.

      Delete
    4. inthekitchen, I respect your opinion, I still do not agree. Critics are there already and have been pouncing on anything about Meghan. Personally, I hope she goes to Wimbledon if she wishes, if she does not I am not going to be upset about it either..."shrugs"

      Delete
    5. The people who already hate Meghan will continue regardless of how hard they see her working. She will never make those people happy and she shouldn’t drive herself crazy trying to. If she’s doing what she’s suppose to do which is work there is nothing wrong with her going to support her friend Serena. She’s a working woman, she is capable of doing the work and also having some fun. It’s awesome that The Queen is showing Meghan the ropes firsthand. The Queen will show Meghan that yes the publicity heavy engagements are fine but the cutting the ribbons are what has helped the royal family the most showing the people that you’re aren’t just there when the cameras are there. I know these events on the 14th will publicized heavy but they usually aren’t. I think it’s important for The Queen to pass that on to someone like Meghan who reminds me of Anne or Sophie when it comes to working.

  13. This announcement about Meghan spending the day with the Queen makes me so happy for her. True change comes from the top. The Queen is making it abundantly clear that Meghan is part of the royal family now and will get all the training and guidance she needs to succeed in her new role. I loved the interaction between Meghan, Prince Charles and Camilla at last week’s garden party, now we’ll see her spending the day alone with the Queen. 18. I think that it would be perfectly acceptable for the Sussexes to visit LA, even in this first year. Will and Kate spent time at Kate's family. Why can't Harry and Meghan?

And if she wants to go to Wimbledon - how is that NOT getting to know the UK? It is a major UK sporting event.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Honestly, I'm not at all surprised about the engagements with the Queen. Clearly, lessons have been learned and we're seeing a repeat of William and Kate's early years as a married couple (engagements with HM and C&C).

I have no issue with her going to Wimbledon. Why not for goodness sake? It's a British tradition and perhaps she will attend with Kate.

LA, on the other hand, could be a double-edged sword. I say this because it could be seen as a way to turn a visit with her mom into an official tour.

  21. We are not a Commonwealth nation, and she is applying for British citizenship, whether she retains American citizenship too, or not. We have no claims on the Duchess of Sussex. I don’t recall any discernible effect after Kate and William visited California early in their marriage. Seems to me Meghan will focus on her new home country, and Commonwealth partner Canada, where she’s lived for the last few years. Surely she wants distance from her problematic relations. Her mother can visit her.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think pretty much everyone knows the U.S. is not part of the commonwealth; it’s been abundantly clear since 1776. Focusing on the commonwealth doesn’t mean Meghan, who was born and raised in California, shouldn’t go there. And if her mother can easily visit her (not a given, since she does work), it’s apparent that her father cannot.

      Delete
    2. But I think that's the problem @Juniper. If the visit to LA is technically official but everyone is given good reason to think it is really just a way to visit her father and/or mother, there will be criticism, much as there was when a brief official event was tacked onto Will's trip for Jecca's wedding. Yes, there will always be criticism but an official visit to LA early on may feed the wolves unnecessarily. I don't think criticism would come from the US end so what people in the US think is somewhat immaterial (unless the visit costs us lots of $ or it appeared H&M were trying to lecture us) H&M can do whatever they wish to privately, of course. I don't begrudge them time with her family at all. But I think charitable efforts early on should mostly be carried out in the UK & CW.

My ancestor came from Ireland in 1752, worked in a sawmill, worked his way up by making hats and opening an Ordinary (sort of tavern, inn, community center). Unfortunately, he was a Tory and had to hot foot it out of the country to avoid having his neck. . . ahem. . . stretched. His brother, on the other hand, was a Patriot which got us into the DAR. We just don't mention our Tory to them. lol

Hide from possible bad press, hide from possible naysayers, hide from her country of birth, hide from having a little fun at a tennis match, hide from her unpleasant family. I applaud Meghan for wanting to get out there and work and turning a blind eye to negativity. If people are concerned that she will receive bad press, well all the RF has received that from HM on down because someone is always going to find something to complain about - real or imagined, so I say let H&M get on with what they want to do. In the end the only person they have to answer to is the Queen.

    1. Helena, well said. If people want to criticze, then they'll find a way to do so. It's impossible to make everyone happy.

      Delete
    2. @Helena in GA - I don't know if this is directed at me, but I feel like at this point I am just being willfully misunderstood. No where did I state she should hide. In fact, I want just the opposite! I want her to be seen often and very publicly out there working...but working for her new country, not the US. And, I'm American so I have absolutely nothing against her visiting the US at some point. And, honestly, if she comes to my area, you'd better believe I'll be there in the ropeline hoping to shake her hand and cheering my head off.

I do think there will be a time to make a charity visit to the US, I just don't think the first year of marriage is the time. Especially when we were told that her main priority for the rest of this year will be to learn more about the UK. I don't see why what I'm saying is so ridiculous. If she wants to visit her mother or father (screw the rest of her Markle relatives!) then she can do so privately and I have no issue with that. Although...my secret hope, with Doria quitting her job, is that her mom will move to the UK so Meghan will have some family support nearby for the inevitable time that she needs a shoulder to cry on or some no-one-but-mom-comfort.

With regard to critics - of course all royals (and public, and even private figures) will always have critics (I seem to have gotten many in this thread by simply stating my opinions, lol)...but a person can also feed into the critics or not. So, if we know that the young royals have been criticized for not working as much as the older ones...why give anyone reason to criticize you (Meghan) in that regard? Also, I think she (and Harry, to some extent) are not going to be given the same leeway to have a slow first 2 years, like Will and Kate did. I think Meghan will be judged more harshly and more often than Kate has been, simply because she's not white, she's American, and she's not married to the heir (of the heir).

Also, I feel like I am not even criticizing her! All I am doing is saying that I hope the stories from The Mirror - a tabloid magazine! - are not true. And, that I hope she will follow through on what we were told was her plan for the rest of the year: that she would travel to communities in the UK learning about the communities and people in the UK and figuring out her charities. Why is it such a big deal to want her to follow through on that?

Anyway, I have to go to work, lol, but I just wanted to try to clarify my POV. I'm happy to agree to disagree as well. I enjoy this board very much and don't want to feel unwelcome here, even if I do have criticisms in the future or have different hopes for how and what Meghan will do as a royal.

      Have a great day everyone!

      Delete
    3. 100% agree with you Helena. People are going to criticize and everyone, not just the RF, needs to go about their business, ignore the critics, and do what they feel is right. It is really apparent that Meghan wants to work hard for the underprivileged, wherever they may be, and she is going to do exactly that in the UK, or in LA or wherever she sees a need. She also has the right for some down time and I hope she enjoys that, again, in whatever manner she chooses. Meghan is going to be criticized - remember she was criticized because she was NOT wearing hose at royal functions and then when she did wear hose to the garden party she was criticized because it was too light. I'm sure Meghan has already learned to just ignore the criticism and get on with her royal duties and affect change where she can and be happy with that. Marla from NH

    7. Helena, So True! Sometimes it even fluctuates with who agrees with whom! Some posters can be rolling along being on the same page & then they find themselves on opposite pages. Happens all the time. That's why I think it's so good that there has been an atmosphere of people sharing their opinions & not trying to necessarily change someone else's opinion! Things may get heated, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone say "My viewpoint is the only viewpoint" here or on DKB. A while back (before MAM) someone mentioned that we should make more "I" opinion statements. Since then people have tended to use phrases such as, "in my opinion" or "just my take" etc. I think it's helped a lot. Instead of making a blanket statement, like it's the absolute only way to view something. I feel Charlotte has done such a wonderful job moderating here, that even though it can get tense & passionate at times, there is still (to me) a feeling of people just having different opinions. Just my 2 cents. :)

  24. Hello!

I meant to address something which I should have clarified in the last post. The "six months of listening" the Times wrote about refers to Meghan's public tour of the UK over the next six months. It's going to be very much about visiting grassroots organisations and hearing about the work they do, the support they need, etc. The UK tour, which I expect will focus on causes she's passionate about, will be one element of a three-pronged approach I understand the Duchess will be taking this year; the other two being overseas work on behalf of the Queen with a focus on the Commonwealth and Europe, and third will be what we call general royal engagements. Be it, a day in Chester with the Queen, away days for Harry and Meghan, or family-focused events such as Trooping.

I´m glad there are still people on this planet whose word still counts... Who see the opportunities they have and believe that the privileges they enjoy come with responsibilites, too. Go for it, Meghan!!

Kate accompanied the Queen and Prince Phillip to Leicester (I loved that dress and jacket ensemble), HM and Camilla to Fortnum & Mason and Charles and Camilla to the Dulwich Picture Gallery (I really like that Orly dress as well). Those all took place in March and my guess is that they were a great experience to watch the pros at work and learn the ropes.

On their day out together, it will be fun to see if the interaction between the Queen with Meghan might be a little more relaxed and open than in her previous outings with family.

Maybe we’ll see Diana’s aquamarine ring often though. I certainly hope so as that ring just SINGS🎢 on Meghan. It looks really good on her.

      3. Wouldn’t it be nice for them both to get a special piece of Jewelry (Yes) commemorating the official opening of the new Mersey Gateway Bridge?
(Hint. Hint. City Council. There’s still time.😳)

That bridge is a real big deal given the location and commerce of that area. They said the old bridge was only built to handle 9,000 cars a day and it has been handling 10 times that amount.
Time for a new bridge for sure. The old bridge will remain in service though.

And I would love to also know what the lunch menu will be at the City Hall visit. Yum.

I love HM's brooch collection and I am hoping that perhaps Meghan will adopt to brooch's more so than Kate. It's just a great way to add that sparkle an outfit needs.

I am also hoping to see both Kate and Meghan in the near future wearing Kate Spade. We've seen a couple of dresses on Kate and earrings as well. It would be wonderful for them to honor her and her situation aligns to their charitable work on mental health.

  29. Such a fun new post! This reminds me of when The Queen had Kate join her for a day of similar visits, early on. I think this happened more than once? I can remember what Kate wore each time. The first time, it was a day of similar events & Kate wore her Teal peplum 2 pc outfit with the beret type of hat. The second time it involved riding a train & Kate was wearing her blue long (channel style) coat dress & it may have been while she was pregnant with George? I believe she was given a sticker or a button saying "baby on board". Please Charlotte correct me if I'm recalling these two days of engagements with The Queen & Kate incorrectly? I always know we are safe in your recollection & knowledge of all these things! I think it's just wonderful that The Queen has done this for both of her grand-daughters in law. I remember Kate referencing (in her interview for The Queen 90th Birthday Documentary) how gracious it was for The Queen to take her along! HM has been quite gracious to the Two! It always reminds me of how Diana said she was thrown into the deep end without any guidance. I know that's how they used to do it, as Charles has mentioned that happened to him too. It makes it even that much more moving, that HM would take this time for first Kate & now Meghan, to take them along for a day of engagements with her, showing them the ropes! :)

I'm not sure that Meghan should be modelling herself too closely on what the Queen does. The Queen is not one for showing her emotions and interacting with the crowd as younger members of the Royal family sometimes do. I don't expect the Queen to change as that was the way she was brought up. Prince Philip used to encourage her to wave but she seems to be doing less of that lately. I know Princess Anne regards hugs (and in New Zealand exchanging the hongi) as pandering to the crowd, but it seems to me it is just sharing our common humanity. So keep up the spontaneous behaviour Meghan. We love that about you.

I think ‘criticism’ and public ‘scrutiny’ comes with being a Royal. So far, she has done exceptionally well. The fact that she is of mixed race has toughened her skin. 4. In the 1990s, the Queen visited Washington when the White House was being repainted. It had been cleaned down to the stones. First Lady Barbara Bush took the Queen outside to inspect the burn marks. See what you folks did, she said. The Queen said yes indeed, burning Washington was revenge for US actions in Canada. The shell of the White House survived, Dolly Madison fled with George Washinton’s portrait, and the building has been painted ever since. And that is how the White House got its name.

Meghan not only gets to join the Queen for activities on an “away day”, but she will get to spend the night on the Royal train with the Queen as they are leaving on the day before the activities. She will get to have dinner and breakfast on the train, sleep in a sleeper car on the train, shower and prep on the train. All with dressers and help of course. Who knows how long the Royal train will kept in commission? What a special privilege. πŸ‘‘

Well, surfer girl, HM knows a thing or two about jewels... So she knows a diamond when she sees one... #MarkleSparkle....

    3. 🌸Eve. 😊 Think about it, lol. Meghan certainly has had open arms extended to her across the board. That is unprecedented, phenomenol (literally), and nothing short of awe-producing, lol. Her critics are no doubt dumbfounded to say the least, yeh?

I mean when have you ever, EVER seen Prince Charles conversing in such a relaxed and naturally attentive way in public? When? lol
I never have seen that before, ever.😳
And he did that with both Meghan AND Doria.πŸ€—
And I thought it was MONUMENTAL him walking arm and arm with Doria out of the Church.😳
And with a calm and even apparently accepting Camilla.😳
That is the woman who fought and fought nasty for “her” man, right? Who’d have thunk she would ever let Charles lend his extra arm to any female?😳 And look sincerely happy about it?😳
Not moi, lol. I never thought that would happen. That was all very record breaking in my opinion.πŸ€—
And the Queen giving Guy🐾❤️ a ride with her to the Castle (doesn’t he look like he is naturally to the castle born btw? So naturally noble.), amazing that the Queen included dear Guy like that.
And now a Royal “Sleepover” on the Royal train?
      Somebody pinch me.😳

    4. I know SG, it's just all so sweet & wonderful! I'm so happy not just for Meghan, but for HM & Charles. They seem to have such a special bond with Meghan (or rather) The Duchess of Sussex & that must make Harry's heart sing! :)

  36. have been trying to figure out what MM will wear. I think a dress with jacket, and I feel like navy and white are safe bets. Wants to look sharp but not overshadow HM. It;s a daytime appearance, so those big diamond earrings are out, even the snowstorm ones. The dress she wore on the eve of her wedding would be good with a jacket, but maybe something new is needed. Whatever she wears, I fee sure she would have asked for approval from her new advisor, at least. Ad I bet the hair is down.

    1. I would like to see her in color that compliments what HM is wearing. Of course HM will wear the brightest color but I would like to see the Duchess wear brighter color and not just muted color. I wonder if she needs to wear a hat?

    2. I too am so excited to see what they both will be wearing, along with just watching them interact! What a special trip they will be taking & what special memories they will be making! :)

  37. The train ride is the most inevitable part of this! I love trains, and I rode in one when I was about 4 years old to Chicago. I remember the compartment and the diner car very well. But imagine alone in that wonderful historic train with just the Queen (and millions of staff). Do you sit around and watch the countryside? Remember "French Kiss"? Do you read parts of "Sense and Sensibility" to each other? Sip Dubonnet? Knit winter slippers for the corgis? And Guy, honorary Corgi? Take naps under Scottish blankets? I want to go too!!

Our public TV station reran an old concert of groups who had hits some time ago, and "Ferry Across the Mersey" was sung by the originals!

  38. 🌸 awwwh, Allison. LOVE your “picture” of the train ride. Especially the “knitting winter socks for the Corgis (and Guy)”.πŸ€—πŸΎπŸ§¦

    2. I thought I didn't know that song until I looked it up. Of course I do, and now it keeps running through my head! But probably at the time I had no idea what the ferry across the Mersey is.

  39. Train travel even under the best of circumstances is a mixed bag in my experience. It is still a lengthy process to get from point A to point B. I also think the Queen "needs" someone along these days for many of her engagements. No idea if she and Meghan will actually chat much or how much time the Queen will be spending on her own affairs as well as Meghan. But I am sure the Queen will appreciate the company and the chance for Meghan to participate in this unique train travel that will most likely disappear after the Queen dies.

  40. I'm wondering why the overnight train trip when they could fly. Is the trip too long for a helicopter? Poor Meghan cooped up on a train overnight with Her Maj trying to make small talk. I wouldn't want to be in her place. As welcoming as the family has been, this must be uncomfortable.

    1. 🌸 Beth. 😊 I don’t think that the Queen would have invited Meghan for a sleepover if they weren’t gal pals. Otherwise, why bother? Meghan could just easily meet her there, yeh?πŸ˜‰
And, I mean, if the Queen let her stay at Sandringham for Christmas and let her help with the Royal Household Christmas party and let her attend the Royal Family Christmas shindig at Buckingham Palace and since the Queen dogsat Guy❤️ so publicly and Royally, I think you can rest at ease that the girls are not just coping but having FUN πŸŽ‰.

    2. I too think they are 2 peas in a pod! You know how you can just sort of connect with someone? That's the sense I have of The Queen & Meghan! Rather...... The Queen & The Duchess of Sussex!! :) I do think they have a special bond! :)

    3. Meghan would love this opportunity to talk and engage with the Queen. She has friends from many walks of life and would see this as a chance to learn from the Queen.

    4. I read a little quote from Mike Tindall saying that the RF knows how to make people feel comfortable. Before he married Zara, he said he had his family to meet the RF and his family was very uncomfortable He said the RF members saw that and immediately went to work making them feel comfortable and engaging them in conversation that they could participate in.

    5. 🌸 That’s cool, Allison. 😊 Mike probably felt like a bull in a china shop in more ways than one with him being a rough, big, burly athlete, lol. Sweet that they welcomed he and his family so warmly.

  41. 🌸 ali. 😊 I doubt that the Queen would invite Meghan on the train ride and not provide entertainment of some sort even if it is just basic socialization of some sort. And, I agree that the Royal Train thing could be on the verge of becoming extinct ALTHOUGH, 😊
the Royal Train was used by other Royals last year, to the tune of $900,000 worth. So, it seems to be being used more than for just a quaint jaunt for the Queen.

    1. SG I read it was used by various members also. The price tag sounds high but maybe the alternative means of travel are just as costly for everyone and thus it makes sense to use the train and keep it operating on a regular basis. I am also gently trying to suggest that the Queen may do better these days with a member of her family accompanying her more often than in the past on outings, the train, etc. etc.

    2. It's such a lovely part of history, I really hope they keep it! :)

    3. ali, I love your sweet point about HM having another younger member of The RF to travel with on these away days! It's wise & an opportunity to make very special memories!! :)

    4. 🌸 ali. 😊 Apparently the Royal Train expense is about $900,000 a year on average, ranging from $600,000 to $1,000,000 a year. It has been that way for years.

I enjoy the fact that the Queen takes the Royal Train. She’s the Queen and a good one at that. So I’m glad she gets to take the Royal Train. Other monarchs before her certainly have.

It makes me sad to think that she had to give up the Royal Yacht. She said that was the only place on earth that she could most be herself.

I think that, yes, she appreciates company at “her age”, although she often solos it. I was just surprised that if she was going to take a family member that it wouldn’t have been Sophie or Anne.
Particularly, (and this is noteworthy also in some way. Don’t ask me how at the moment though), since William, Kate and Harry have yet to ride that train, let alone ride it with the Queen.
I still think the Queen and Meghan will have an evening and day of giggles and fun on the train and even maybe a few while they are out and about. We know that the Queen is a very funny lady. Quite a warm and sweet sense of humor.😊

    5. 🌸 ali, I agree. the train travel is a good idea. :)

  42. I think MM and HM will have great time! HM will tell MM about fun times in her life and MM will enjoy it immensely. That is the type of person MM is---she loves people and they love her. I read that Charles said she was very intelligent and very nice and made Harry very happy. I imagine HM feels more comfortable riding the train---she is "older." At the very least, HM can tell MM about the area they are traveling through---they will have tons to talk about. And Harry will miss MM.
