Meghan's Casual Chic for Audi Polo Challenge Day Two!

Following yesterday's appearance at Coworth Park, the Duchess of Sussex returned to cheer on her prince for the second day of the Audi Polo Challenge.

The couple arrived via the rear entrance for the polo match at Ascot, Berkshire, accompanied by friends and protection officers.

Omid Scobie reports Harry played in support of military charities Support The Walk, The Gurkha Welfare Trust and the Household Cavalry Foundation.

The picturesque Coworth Park is the ideal place to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Today is a very poignant day for William and Harry marking what would have been their mother's 57th birthday. More from Hello!

'The Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed spending some quality time together watching the polo on Sunday, on what would have been Princess Diana's 57th birthday.'

Yesterday, Meghan opted for a summery gingham print Shoshanna dress.

Today, the Duchess went for casual chic in a stylish white shirt and black skinny jeans.

The Duchess wore her much loved black leather Chanel flats. The eagle-eyed Laura notes she's had them for several years.

Meghan carried her Madewell x Baltimore Panama hat once again.

We'll see Harry and Meghan on Thursday for the ‘Your Commonwealth’ Youth Challenge Reception at Marlborough House in London. It's possible Meghan will make a Wimbledon appearance before then.

  1. I like her off duty style more than her royal engagement(s)/work? style.

  2. I think that's a mis-ID of the shirt. Unlike the J. Crew shirt, Meghan's has a pocket. The buttons are also on the opposite side.

  3. Looking close at today’s photos, it looks like Meghan is smiling. I am struck by the fact that although she now lives in the ultimate fishbowl, and unannounced, distant photos are constantly taken of her, she always has a pleasant expression or smile on her face. I’ve noticed the same of Amal Clooney. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo when she looks unhappy. These women have a rare temperament, I think - they are at peace with the lives they have chosen and are mature, fully-formed adults. I also think that both are basically happy people with sunny dispositions and have the same personalities that they had long before they met their famous spouses. I’m sure people will say that they’d be smiling too if they were rich and famous like Meghan and Amal, but they were both already doing quite well for themselves and did not have to take on this fishbowl Iife If didn’t want to. They seem like lovely people and I enjoy looking at their beautiful clothes. #myonlyvice

    1. Well said CrissieP.

It's a good job she has a sunny disposition and doesn't let negativity faze her because the plethora of hideous media headlines would send most normal people off the edge.

    4. Yes, I agree. They are both women who put in the work to build the life they wanted and spend time maturing and focusing on themselves. I think it shows in their confidence and the resulting happiness they seem to project. It's a joy to watch, and definitely a model for me!

Not to disagree with anything you said, I just want to add, that both women you mentioned are blessed with a ‘smiling rest face’. Which is really a blessing when you are in the public eye like that. The Queen for example doesn’t and it has lead to a lot of comments/photos that she is sour or unhappy about something, when it wasn’t necessarily the case.

    8. Well, Meghan got engaged just over 7 months ago and has been married for less than two. I think she's in the honeymoon stage at this point; everything is new and exciting. Quite understandable. Also, let's remember that her chosen profession did not hide her away behind a desk in a cubicle. I do agree that she is very comfortable with the camera and is truly enjoying her new role.

Regarding Amal, I fully respect her education and professional accomplishments, but there is no denying that her marriage came with a level of fame that she, too, has embraced with open arms.

    9. Dear Anon 6:30, I just wanted to say that many of us either did not have loving parents or were not raised by their parents (or both)and still became decent and kind human beings.

      Delete
    10. I agree, Lauri. There are a lot of people who overcame less than perfect childhoods to become amazing adults! Meghan might be one of them. Her family seems less than unconditionally loving, with the exception of her mother, from what I've read. And that's going back to them referring to her mother as the maid. I can only imagine the feelings hearing your mother referred to that way by your own family.

But some people are natural extroverts and really want to help people. Perhaps Meghan and Amal Clooney are two of them.

  8. Per the post of CrissieP and yesterday's by Lauri, I agree completely. These two women met and made good lasting friendships with well-known women because of their personalities. Meghan's "famous" friends are probably used to a lot of fake people but they didn't see that in Meghan. And her smile is her not-so-secret weapon. :)

After all her high-powered clothes, I LOVE seeing MM in flats and a white shirt. She looks adorable and happy. Lucky Harry

    1. I agree that they’re more flattering - personally I love heels and wedges and wear them as often as I can. Meghan’s always look a tad too big and it sometimes detracts from the whole look. I had mentioned it back at their engagement announcement - her shoes look a few sizes too big.

  17. Meghan does have a very chic casual look. Agree with USA Granny - love those Channel flats! The oversized crisp white shirt and the cropped black jeans (very Audrey Hepburn).

I hope that both Harry and William are thinking wonderful thoughts today regarding their Mum. She was 36 - the same as Meghan, Kate and William. It's just so strange to me. At the time - Diana and I are close to the same age - I didn't realize how young she actually was. She did in fact have her entire life in front of her.

    3. Here too. It's all around us in Northern, Illinois. We live in a particularly horsey area & there are wonderful Polo days all throughout the summer. Great fun with picnicking & of course "divot stomping" at Half-time!!! Everyone is out on the Polo Pitch with their champagne (or drink of choice) whether in flats or pumps dancing around "stomping on the divits" (the process of helping to replace the grass over the divits created from the horses hooves during play)! We have formal events or more casual (it's all relative as casual isn't always what some would call casual). My brother in law comes from a long line of Polo players. He went to College at University of Virginia on a Polo Scholarship. In fact, my sons' lacrosse Team practiced on a Polo Field that was on the land of one of the player's families. Luckily they have continued the tradition of letting it be the Team's practice field even after their son went to College. The joke is that our Team has one of the best fields in the State. Not many get to practice daily on a perfect "Polo Pitch". If you search on You Tube under "divit stomping" you can see it being done. It helps the field, but it was originally "designed to afford the spectators a chance to walk about & socialize". You can also google local Polo Clubs & see if there are any in your area?? It makes for a lovely day outing with friends or family! :)

Not sure if my earlier comment came through.....But Royal Photographer Mark Cuthbert was asked on instagram about Meghan pictures and he said that "they hide her" and explained a little how they do it using cars (including an ambulance) to block the view of photographers. And while I love to see candid pics of Harry and Meghan, I am glad that effort is being made to create a sense of normalcy around her. I think that is why she seems so carefree and smiley. 26. I ADORE her off-duty outfits. I think she wears them best, as she could be totally herself in terms of dresses and so on. Since she got married, I still believe that she is still finding her Royal style so her outfits have been hits and misses. But these two days of polo, wowwww! she puts this simple look to the next level. I love her shoes and hope (*fingercrossed*) we could see her bag, since her bags are usually stunning.

Also look fwd to seeing her in Wimbledon and all the upcoming engagements.

    1. Hi Mela, I don't know if Meghan needs to "find her royal style", I think she's already found it. If you look at the royal ladies in the BRF, all of them have had hits and misses over the years and several of these women have been in the family for over a decade. I believe that many of us have subconsciously thought of Kate's style as the go-to style for the younger British royal ladies. So when Meghan wears something that doesn't fit like Kate's clothes tend to fit or aren't as colorful or printed, we tend to think that maybe Meghan just doesn't have the royal dress code down yet when in fact she does just with her own take on it. I'm certainly including myself in this line of thought because when Meghan first started attending engagements I was rather stunned that her style so closely resembled mine that I thought she must be doing it wrong and will sooner or later revert to the proper Duchess mode of dress. I have to say that I'm so glad she hasn't, she's stuck to what she likes and what makes her comfortable and confident and it shows.

    2. Wow Lauri, this maybe one of my most favorite comments on this blog. I agree with you by the way.

      Delete
    3. @Lauri and @Mela

I do think she's still finding her footing which could be described as searching for her royal style, but I also agree that many of us watching may have an idea of royal style that is completely based on what we've seen and doesn't necessarily exist. I think of Princess Anne's wedding dress and how my first though at seeing it was, "Wow, that's so 70s". A few decades prior would that style have been viewed as appropriately royal or regal? I'm not sure. For the BRF we do look at the past and Kate has primarily stuck to those classic styles and fits (they suit her and I love a fit-and-flare style so I don't mind), but I think there must be more ways to do royal. I hope Meghan takes the time to explore. I'm not blown away by any of her post-wedding looks (the day of engagement with The Queen came closest), but I do think she looks elegant and appropriate even if somewhat boring during her outings, so I don't feel right complaining yet. Definitely interested in what the future holds though.

Since I don't want to write a separate comment, I love both polo looks and would happily and comfortably wear variations of them in real life.

      Delete
    4. Lauri, a very good point. And I don't think MM has hits or misses, at least not in her view. We can dislike something but she is said to be deliberate in what she wears. The blue and white wedding guest dress that took media criticized (one "paper" had two reports saying she "stunned" and she was "overwhelmed") is probably just what she wanted and liked. I know absolutely nothing about fashion but accidentally ended up on a Vogue site and saw runway dresses that were long and loose and flowing. In looking back at some Kate posts, I realize how many clothes Kate has worn and how pretty most of them were. But MM has a different style and they are also pretty. It's a good thing for readers that we get some variety. :)

  33. I've enjoyed these posts. I've had to read a bunch to get caught up. I've been busy working getting ready to fly over to The UK for the filming of a feature film. I'm on the Production Team & so I've been blessed to be able to work remotely from our lake house (enjoying a bit of summer) & in a few days will be on baby duty as another grandchild will arrive. Thus this set up allows me to be able to help for a couple of weeks before I have to fly out. This trip I'll be on location (for the last block of filming), but I'll be based & return each night to my Hotel in London. What I did differently this time is to build in some extra time at the end to make sure I have time to visit my cousin. She & her Husband have a Country Estate (think Downton Abbey). They have an airplane landing strip & in the Fall they host "Edwardian Shoots" for business & private use. Their Chefs then prepare the birds & serve it in a typical Edwardian Dinner (again think Lady Violet during those long dinner scenes of Downton Abbey)! So basically my cousin is "The Lady of The Manor"! :) Much of my family has been over to visit Their "Country House", but I've not. So (assuming no problems with production) I will be able to enjoy a glorious 4ish days at their Estate!! I also built in some time to shop, have tea & sightsee by myself (or with some girlfriends) Without My Family!!!!!!! This time in London I Get To Do Only What I Want To Do!!! lol lol lol :) No Comprises Necessary!!! Is there anything more wonderful to a Lady's ear??? ( Disclaimer..... I love my Hubby & Family Dearly but....... :) So I'd love to hear all of your suggestions about which are your favorite places to go in London proper??? No travel other than by tube or Cab! I of course have ideas, but I'm hoping you ladies either living there or from your own visits can tip me off to those fun little places that I might not know about??? Bring on all the fav places ladies!!! :) xoxoxo

    1. Hi Becca! I loved the Kensington Palace cafe when I was in London last. You can sit either outdoors or indoors, it was elegant but quite informal. It is also very close to The Princess Diana Memorial Garden, which is absolutely beautiful. For something more formal, you could choose The Orangerie. The exhibitions at KP are always interesting, and you might get to see some of Princess Diana's amazingly beautiful dresses and outfits. You may also find that Buckingham Palace is open to visitors in summer, it would be worth a visit! One thing that I really enjoyed was the view of London from The Shard. There is a bar up there, and you can sip a glass of champagne whilst enjoying the sunset for instance. Incredibly nice! One night we had a delicious dinner in Covent Garden. We arrived early enough to have a look around some of the shops, I could have spent more time here, definitely a winner. I would also recommend to see a show or two in the West End. One of my favourite classics is The Mouse Trap. Apart from all the famous landmarks in London, I would also say just wander on down to a local pub or bar near where you are staying and have a drink or two and watch the world go by. London is my number one city in the world, it is so amazing. Enjoy!!!

    3. Becca, your life sounds glam with your film work and a cousin who lives in a Downton Abbey type setting. As for things to do in London, well I advised Florida Girl on the HRHDK blog, to be sure to take a boat trip on the Thames. You get the boat near Westminster Bridge, which is near Westminster Abbey. You can go in one direction to Greenwich and in the other direction to Kew Gardens and Hampton Court. Prices of not too high, there is a commentary and many things to see along the river. There is even a hop on, hop off boat. Google and read more. The Tower of London is unique. The Beefeaters and the Crown Jewels are really worth seeing. Also there are over 20 museums in London that you can visit at no cost. So you can't go wrong if you stop by and it is not for you. Since you paid nothing just leave. I think the National Gallery is spectacular if you like art. Also the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern offer wonderful art pieces. Oxford St. is fabulous for shopping with over 300 shops. You asked about f"un little places" and these suggestions are not those…but must sees for sure.
If the film you are working on will be for viewing by the general public, be sure to tell us the name and when it will be out.

I completely have missed KP in the past (due to family comprises:) so that's a 10 for me this trip! (& I didn't know they had a cafe! Great Tip!:) In fact, for the Royal Wedding, I drank my tea from a Diana china tea cup & saucer my daughter brought me back from KP this winter. :) Have never made it to the National Portrait Gallery or The Tate Britain so those are on the list! Never heard of The Shard = added to The List! :) Theater = On The List! :) We just saw "Hamilton" this past Friday, so will look for something else! Oh & The Orangerie.... Great Tip & didn't know they served Tea!! = Top o The List!! :) These + leisurely browsing through all the boutiques I've only ever passed by in past trips.... I think I'm off to a great start with your help ladies!! :) xoxo Love the idea of popping into local pubs etc! Any recommendations for dining would be greatly appreciated too! I just seem to remember us always being stumped in that dept when we have traveled there in the past!? We'd always just say.... "ok let's just go here".. (mostly because it's hard to find places that can seat a whole family & that please everyone's palette! lol :) I know my cousin will have some ideas, as they have a place in London too. Tho I'm looking forward to being able to browse & explore alone.... one doesn't often get to do that & go at one's own pace. :)

In fact, I sent the friend a fun photo collage of pics of me with these friends with side by side photos of these friends in pics with MM!!! It is quite the 2 degrees of separation situation. lol :) I can't imagine ever crossing paths, but the feature film I'm going over there for the end of filming is rooted in a story of a person's journey into Homelessness!! One of the things I will be exploring while I'm over there is the possibilities of integrating The Royal Foundation or The Heads Together Charities into our Targeted Marketing & Distribution Strategy, as this film is So Powerful & Beautiful at the same time! If nothing else, it could be a tool for them to help people gain a greater understanding of how any of us could fall onto bad times if life just takes a few wrong turns! I look forward to being able to share the name of the film with you all, after it's through Post-Production & has navigated distribution! :)

This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
