Meghan to Appear in Royal Documentary, Three Days in Toronto, Invictus News & More!

Ahead of this week's engagements, we're back with a brief post discussing stories of interest from the past several days.

Meghan Set to Appear in Royal Documentary... The Duchess of Sussex is set to appear in a new documentary about the Queen's role on the world stage. 'Queen of the World', which will be broadcast on ITV later this month, will feature a number of royals including Harry, William, Sophie, Anne and Charles. We can expect to hear Meghan speak about the Commonwealth. Chris Ship reports: "The Duchess speaks in the ITV documentary about her dress and her early interactions with the Commonwealth, which means so much to her grandmother-in-law. Meghan had the national flowers of all the 53 members of the Commonwealth embroidered into her long veil in May when she married Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. It was more than 70 years after the Queen had the symbols of the then eight Commonwealth countries sewn into her wedding gown."

More on the two-part series from ITV's press release:

'New ITV series Queen of the World will offer a unique insight into Her Majesty The Queen’s role as a figure on the global stage and the baton she is passing to the younger members of the Royal Family as they continue to build the Commonwealth connection.

Filmed over more than a year by Oxford Films [whose ITV documentaries include Our Queen and Our Queen at 90 and Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy] with privileged access to The Queen, her family, her staff and her residences, this landmark series tells the story of how the Commonwealth has been a central focus and passion throughout Her Majesty’s life.
The Queen of the World is commissioned for ITV by Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual and Sue Murphy, Head of Factual Entertainment.
Jo said: “The Queen is a unique figure on the world stage, with a huge depth of experience having met more global leaders than any previous British monarch and serving longer than  all of them.  This film is a rare opportunity to see Her Majesty up close and behind the scenes in this role, which means so much to her and has been so significant for Britain and the Commonwealth.”

Nicolas Kent, Creative Director for Oxford Films and Executive Producer for Queen of the World, said: “The Queen is the most well-travelled monarch in history and it’s been fascinating to see how she has passed on her experience to the younger generations of the royal family.  With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex about to embark on their first Commonwealth Tour to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific exactly sixty-five years after the Queen’s first Commonwealth Tour, this series could not be more timely.”

It promises to "document the way in which Her Majesty passes her knowledge and experience to the younger generations." For readers outside the UK, I will post links should it become available on YouTube.

Three Days in Toronto... Royal reporter Omid Scobie revealed Meghan travelled under the radar to Toronto a fortnight ago to spend time with friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney and her family for three days.

ABC News reports:

'Meghan, 37, who traveled without Prince Harry, flew commercial round-trip to Toronto for the three-day trip, ABC News has learned. “Meghan spent three days holed up at Jessica Mulroney and her husband Ben’s home in Toronto,” said Omid Scobie, ABC News royal contributor. “They spent their days catching up, cooking together and, of course, playing with Jessica’s children, who love their 'Auntie Meg.'”
Meghan and Jessica, who met while Meghan lived in Toronto while filming “Suits,” also had a chance to catch up with old friends during Meghan’s under-the-radar visit. “There was one evening when Meghan and Jessica secretly headed out into the town to meet some of Meghan’s old, good friends,” Scobie said.'

Royal Central's Jamie Samhan exclusively reports: "Arriving via Air Canada on Tuesday, 21 August, the Duchess blended in with passengers trying not to draw attention to herself. She was dressed in skinny black jeans, a black cashmere sweater, black ballerina flats and a black baseball cap pulled down over her face. Speaking exclusively to Royal Central, a source aboard the plane said: “Meghan was lovely. She had two secret service guys with her, but it was all very low key.” The source continued: “Meghan had one glass of champagne before settling down to watch Book Club."

The Name of the Newest Sussex Family Member Revealed... Since news broke confirming Harry and Meghan welcomed a new addition to their family, there's been a flurry of articles speculating on the name of the royal pet. Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith revealed the adopted black Labrador is named Oz. Ingrid Seward spotted Meghan playing with Oz in the Kensington Palace courtyard several months ago.

A Very Royal Invictus Sydney... With just six weeks to go until Invictus Sydney begins, excitement and anticipation is building. Last month, David Beckham was announced as an ambassador, he will join the couple in Sydney next month. The hugely successful games have also attracted royal attention. The Daily Telegraph reports Prince Frederik and Princess Mary of Denmark plan to travel down under to lend their support to the inspirational athletes. Of course, Princess Mary was born and raised in Tasmania. She met her prince at the Slip Inn, a pub in Sydney when the prince was visiting Australia during the 2000 Summer Olympics. I'm very excited to see Harry and Meghan with Mary and Frederik.

Fashion Updates... The Strathberry Midi Tote in Tan Bridle Leather Meghan carried in Dublin is now available for pre-order. The estimated shipping date is Mid-December.

Meghan's $196 Runaway Not Guilty black jeans are back in stock at Mother Denim.

And Meghan's Looker Frayed Ankle Skinny Jeans are available at Nordstrom.

In Case You Missed It... This very sweet moment from Hamilton seems a fitting way to conclude the post :)

We'll see Harry and Meghan tomorrow for the WellChild Awards!

I am so glad that Meghan had a trip to visit her friends! That must have been so good for her after all the changes this last year has brought! Good for her! I can't wait to see the documentary. Having Meghan in it is another sign of how quickly she has become an important part of The Firm! Yay! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Mary and Fred! That adds even more to look forward to in October!!

  2. I’ve been coveting that Strathberry tote since the first time I saw it on the blog. It’s probably a good thing that the price point is so steep; I really don’t need another bag 😉

    3. Hi US Reader, I wouldn't look at this handbag as just "another bag", this is an investment piece that you'll have and use for the rest of your days. And since we can't take it with us, I believe that you should have items that make you feel fabulous!

  3. What a treat to read so many updates. Thank you Charlotte. It’s a holiday in the US , Labor Day, and it’s nice to be relaxing and reading your posts. I hope the documentary will be broadcast in the US .

  4. Thanks, Charlotte for the updates. I look forward to tomorrow. Btw, for those who have concerns about how Royal ladies are to sit, Google The Queen at Highland Games. Neither the Queen nor her daughter Princess Ann crossed their legs at the ankles, and neither did the “Duchess Slant”. Charlotte, thanks again.

    3. Good one! I think most of us understand that these nitpicking criticisms of the Duchess of Sussex have absolutely nothing to do with real or imagined matters of royal protocol.

    4. Princess Mary of Denmark is so incredibly chic and beautiful. As I enter the lottery for affordable tickets to 'Hamilton' each day, I envy the Duchess for having seen it three times. It seems they had a happy evening and Harry sang just a bit of King George III's break-up with America song. What a charming young man.

    5. Thanks, Marcia, Anon 04:21 and Regalia. Maybe we should all salt most of the rest of what we read about Meghan (this blog being the exception, of course).

  5. That photo of Meghan walking down the aisle is beautiful. It looks like an old oil painting.

    2. I thought the same thing as I watched it live: A Divine anointing of light reminiscent of an Old Master. I got an electric charge down my body as I witnessed it.

  6. I whish those PRIVATE visits to friends wouldn´t be in the news!! Jessica & her family certainly don´t want to have paparazzi camping on their front door - just in case Meghan might turn up for a visit!! Meghan & Harry give us enough with their official engagements, so we should be able to leave her alone when she´s visiting a dear friend!

  7. Not only did HM and the Princess Royal not cross their ankles, Ann actually crossed her legs at the knee! Horrors! :) So glad that Meghan was able to have a quick visit to Canada without the media milling about. Thanks for keeping us updated Charlotte!

  8. Thanks Charlotte,I cannot wait for the documentary!!

  9. Crown Prince Frederik just had back surgery this weekend. I think we can rule him out for a trip to Australia. Not to mention that this was just a rumor in the first place.

  10. To Regalia @ 15:16. Exactly! Why not? That’s my POINT. I agree Eve from Germany @ 6:29; the Duchess was on a PRIVATE visit during vacation time so obviously it was not meant to be NEWS.

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
