Harry and Meghan Cheer on Competitors for Invictus Wheelchair Basketball Finals

Ahead of tonight's closing ceremony, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent the afternoon at the wheelchair basketball finals at the Quay Centre.

The Duchess arriving.

People reports: "England won third in bronze medal match against New Zealand while the Netherlands and the U.S. competed in the gold medal game. The parents-to-be, who were greeted by attendees with a roaring applause, were seated with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Defence Minister Christopher Pyne."

The Sydney Morning Herald reports Harry and Meghan sat with the crowd rather than the VIP area:

'Instead of joining the Prime Minister, Defence Minister Christopher Pyne and the Beckhams in the VIP area, the young royal couple instead chose to sit on the other side of the court, along with military men and women in uniform, to watch the wheelchair basketball finals. Surrounded by servicemen and women in army camouflage fatigues, the crowd roared in support of the servicemen, many of them amputees injured in war, as they fought it out on the court.'

The game marked the final sporting event of Invictus Sydney.

As the Invictus Games draw to a close in Sydney, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced a suite of initiatives to recognise Australian veterans including a discount card and lapel pin. More from 9 News:

'The government will also develop an Australian Veterans' Covenant, similar to the UK model, which would be enacted in legislation as a promise of respect and support. Mr Morrison said Australia has a "great culture" of high regard for veterans.
"These measures we have announced today are all about continuing to honour their sacrifice, not just when it is made on the field, but when the sacrifice means they are still hurting when they are coming back and supporting their families." He said the response so far from businesses to the card, which will come into effect early next year, has been "fantastic".'

Invictus Ambassador David Beckham cheered on competitors at the event. Speaking about his role at the Games, he said: “Invictus Games, it’s such a special thing that’s been created for so many special people and to be ambassador for this one in Sydney is something I’m very proud of."

Harry and Meghan presented medals after the match.

Congratulations to the U.S. team who won 29-17.

The Sydney Morning Herald writes: "A tear-jerking moment occurred after the awards ceremony, when Isabella Vera, daughter of American special forces sergeant and Invictus gold medallist George Vera from Land O’Lakes, Florida, ran onto the court and into the lap of her father. The crowd roared as she gave her father a hug and burst into tears."

The Invictus Games Foundation shared a photo of Harry meeting UK Wheelchair Basketball competitor Paul Guest outside the changing rooms. I have no doubt the Prince is incredibly excited to celebrate the achievements of all participants throughout the games tonight at the closing ceremony.

The Duchess wore the Crepe Knit Wrap Jacket by Australian brand Scanlan Theodore (with thanks to Heaven). The label is a favourite of Princess Mary of Denmark's. the $550 jacket features a wrap front, waist tie and ruffled hem.

I love the garnet shade of the jacket.

More on the background of Scanlan Theodore:

'Scanlan Theodore is a women’s fashion and accessories brand offering a range of ready-to-wear, handbags, and footwear.  Scanlan Theodore was founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1987.
For over 25 years women have embraced Scanlan Theodore’s modern elegance and independent spirit as their very own. The Scanlan Theodore woman is confident, intelligent and complex – for it’s all the layered facets of life that make a design, an image and indeed a woman, a timeless beauty of memorable quality.'

Both Harry and Meghan wore their poppies ahead of Remembrance Day next month.

The Royal British Legion are launching their 2018 Poppy Appeal over this weekend. The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, the period of Remembrance. This year, join us as we mark the end of the WW1 centenary by saying Thank You to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world.

Meghan wore her Sarah Flint Jay pumps.

And accessorised with her Shaun Leane Talon earrings.

We'll see the Duke and Duchess at the Invictus Games Closing Ceremony tonight. Kensington Palace shared a photo taken by Meghan of Harry rehearsing his speech.

We can expect to hear them both speak at the event.

Lovely color on Meghan! I think it is really flattering when she wears her hair half up and half down.

    2. I'm so happy to see this hair style. Looks great on her and it's different from either the messy bun or all down.

  3. I love this look! The color looks so good on her and I love that she switched up her hair. Can't wait to read more on todays events. Thank you Charlotte - you're amazing!

  4. Another polished look. . . with color! I do hope Meghan bought the skirt too as it would make a nice suit for work events. Separates are perfect for stretching a wardrobe. The peplum top is great for providing necessary 'growing room' and she looks comfortable.

  5. This outfit is ON POINT! It fits well, looks sharp, and the top is the perfect shade for fall (where it's fall, anyway!). Meghan's hair is gorgeous.

  6. I love this Top! So much better than the similar blue ones she wore at the core core awards. Maybe she will wear this and the matching skirt for the closing ceremony.

  9. Awww, she's just such a stylish woman - and I love the way she looks like she's had a lot of say in her wardrobe choices: she doesn't look 'styled'. Best of all is the lovely smile on her face. She's fab!

    1. Here and there the news of this couple or the Cambridges can be found in the news or a forum ( because I read one only other forum on this subject ). It is only uniquely on these blogs the subjects of her interest take a deeper meaning and at times motivating inspiration towards a positive purpose. She has a special touch.

There is no question what Charlotte does is above and beyond the wonderful skills she had excelled at. The presentation, all around balanced information, her in put for images, the speed she delivers it, and working on two time zones posting a consistently excellent quality images and scripts simply entitles her the honor of " Her Excellency Charlotte of the UK Blogs".

    2. My goodness, you have all been so incredibly generous to me throughout this tour. I deeply appreciate it, this blog is still quite new so it's amazing to see the response to this tour.

    3. In your case the credit to the title "Her Excellency Blogger Charlotte of UK" had been building credit since 2011. DKB's DOC received order of the BRF. It is due time this community comes up with a title based on your achievement, character, skill, dedication, style, knowledge , moderating, quality and number of years of service. The title "Dame" is bestowed by the monarch, it may happen someday. I have read your blog over the years more than I had read Dame Agatha Christine’s novels. In the meantime, your readers have the right to come up with an endearing title for all the admiration and appreciation we have for you. There are thousands of readers of this blog as “style vote times” had witnessed though the comment section is in hundreds and at times less as the events keep moving faster than even readers and other media can catch up with particularly in the case of this tour.

Very nice top! I think the entire ensamble would be very nice on her. Pretty shade of colour. As for her hairdressing, I think the half-up half-down is one of the best for her.

  14. Her earrings remind me of images of the human body joints. The human body can be as fragile and easy to split / break as those joints of earring pieces. The fact that Harry experienced life in the military may have given him a deeper empathy, compassion, a bonding brotherhood and a purpose to solve the dilemmas of post war and/ or military life.

I gained respect for Harry after the 2014 invictes games. In 2011 he traveled with his army colleagues to some icy place in Europe to raise funds. That is the first time I started to observe his activities seriously. Otherwise, farewell to his distant antics at parties understood as passing stage of youth.

The relationship seems to be the right one for both of them; most likely they know what they want and did not waste time.

I love this! Meghan looks amazing in this deep red colour. I too hope that she got the skirt, and that we will see it one day! Not everyone can pull off peplum, but Meghan rocks it. The Invictus Games is obviously second to none. I hope Harry feels like he has seen enough sporting events, seeing that they were away for the middle of them.

  16. How Beautiful! She is glowing... And this burgundy-reddish colour totally suits her. Like the QLD arrival-dress color...Totally approved. Don't like Harry in black, though. But the event is the major highlight. These veterans and co. are so precious and great.
M&H are fenomenal. They just 'bring it & rock it all'. Well done.

  17. The joy of the young girl running to her father then seated hugging him, and shaking the hand of the athlete next to him expresses the positive effect of such events. Most likely as the athletes prepared towards the competition, the family had been a part of the conversation and the actual game day must mean a lot so many ways. It is good the couple checked back to the games at some point like today.

The garnet color DOS wore kind of recalls similar color dress and jacket she wore at the Invictus games Canada in 2017.

  19. This is an amazing color on Meghan, who looks so happy tonight. I love her hair pulled back from her face. It allows us to see her beauty, and looks so much neater. Thank you Charlotte. I don't know how you get any rest with all the work you put into giving us so much background on the events Harry and Meghan attend. Your blog is the best.

  22. Charlotte, I can’t thank you enough for both blogs you do! They are so informative with background information which is so nice for us here in the USA! I really enjoy the fashion aspect of your blog but have come to really enjoy all the information you provide. I only wish the internet and you doing a blog about Princess Diana would have been around when she was alive! Thank you from the bottom of my ❤️! Please never ever stop.

  23. Superb color and top, nice hair-do! But what really convinced me of this couple: Sitting with the crowds ... even if it was a good pr-coup, it was such a nice gesture. So well done, Harry and Meghan!

  25. I’m enjoying the casual look of the Duchess of Sussex. I thought it was very nice of the Duke and Duchess to sat with the soldiers and their families to watch the wheelchair basketball games rather than in the VIP section. I saw the pic of the soldier giving the Duchess a kiss to the cheek. 😊Congrats to all the winners and to every competitor. The Invictus Games is such a wonderful event. Thank you, Charlotte. All the nice things that have been texted about you during this tour are so true. We really appreciate you.

  26. I almost forgot. Thanks, Charlotte for posting the video of David Beckham’s comments and his interactions with the soldiers. Very nice.

  27. Hi Charlotte,

Long time reader and I think you are amazing. I just wanted to bring something to your attention. You described one of the competitors, George Vera, as "wheel chair bound." The disability community asks that we no longer use this term but instead say "wheel chair user." The reason being, and I feel very much like the spirit of the Invictus Games themselves, is to resist seeing disability as a limiting and depressing aspect of life but rather a natural part of human diversity. I bring this up with love knowing that you would want this blog to be a place of positivity and inclusivity! Thank you for all the effort that goes into these posts. It shows.

  28. She looks so alive and beautiful. The deep reds suit her and I love the pairing with skinny pants. I am dying for a pair of these Sarah Flint pumps, even though I’m getting too old for high heels.

  34. The Duchess looks dress appropriate, and I love what she is wearing. She is glowing. Harry is fantastic isn't he? His mother would be proud. Thank you so much for a wonderful and up to date blog, it is a pleasure to read and follow, you do an amazing job

  35. Since the snug red dress, all of Meghan's choices and fits have been superb!! I really do believe that a seamstress came on board to make some adjustments--and perhaps some last minute substitutions have been made, too! She looks fabulous!

  36. This top is one of the best nicest things I have seen Meghan wear. The design, the construction, and the color are beautiful. Her attire for the past few days has been special, and so becoming. Thank you, Charlotte for keeping your lovely posts coming to us thick and fast!

  37. My only complaint: Meghan continues to wear high heels on basketball courts. I cringe each time I see her do this.
