The Sussexes Bring Rain (and Meghan's Banana Bread) To Drought Stricken Dubbo!

Day Two of the Sussexes' Royal Tour of Australia saw the Duke and Duchess fly to the town of Dubbo, situated on the Macquarie River, 300 kilometres northwest of Sydney.

When the tour itinerary was released earlier this month many were surprised to see the regional city included, expecting the couple to visit the more well-known areas of the country. The royal visit certainly did not happen by accident; it was the result of a hard-won pitch by the local council who knew the global coverage and potential tourism could prove a substantial coup for the area. Dubbo has been battling against an unprecedented drought which has crippled residents, drying up income sources and leaving farmers with impossible conditions to contend with. Mayor Ben Shields told The Guardian: "They made it clear months ago that they would be going to a regional centre, and we jumped on board as quickly as we could - begged, pleaded, did everything we had to do to get them there. Dubbo is the primary service centre for western NSW … and if the farmers have no cash in their pockets, it means they don’t spend on our local businesses." Today's visit means a great deal to locals. Below, Harry and Meghan with the Mayor at the airport.

Then it was time to meet a very excited group of children.

Harry and Meghan were welcomed with hugs by adorable schoolboy Luke Vincent.

Luke was fascinated by Harry's beard. School Principal Anne Van Dartel said: "He got a hug from Meghan and then Harry bent down to speak to him and Luke didn't give him any choice. Luke's favourite person in the world is Santa Claus, who has a beard. So he rubbed Harry's beard. It's been a wonderful experience for these little country kids to meet people they've only ever seen on TV."

More from the Mail Online:

'Five-year-old Lyra Rose, of Dubbo South Public School, said: 'It's the first time I have met a princess and I will remember it forever, while school captain Mali Hopkins-Davies, 12, said: 'Harry asked us when we had had rain. They seemed to know a lot about the drought.'
Millie Sutcliffe, 10, from Dubbo South Public School, hugged both royals. 'My wish came true. I said congratulations on the baby and they thanked me. I said 'I love you guys' and I got a hug. They said "thank you for coming to meet us, you guys are awesome".'
Lachlan Eddy and Tyson Salt, both 12, from Dubbo West Public School, had Meghan in stitches as they performed some energetic dance moves. 'She said it was very funny,' Lachlan said.'

Preparations have been underway for the royal visit for weeks.

Shortly before Harry and Meghan arrived, Kensington Palace shared this photo: "Dubbo, we're coming to see you."

Dubbo Airport ready for the royals.

Dubbo has a long history of welcoming the royals. Harry and Meghan are very much following in the Queen and Prince Philip's footsteps in establishing a relationship with the area. Below, Her Majesty and Prince Philip inspecting sheep at the Dubbo Showground in 1954.

We also see Her Majesty pictured during her 1992 visit. The Monarchy is very much about building connections, continuity and of course making memories. The Daily Liberal reports: "Jenny Ballhausen can still recall the atmosphere at Dubbo School of Distance Education as the monarch and Prince Philip stepped into the classroom. Ms Ballhausen recalled the monarch taking part in a question and answer session via radio with students located across a vast section of western NSW. 'They asked questions about their corgis, what they like to do in their spare time… and of course she answered them over the airwaves, which was quite interesting, and certainly would have been different for her at the time,' she said. Speaking about the Sussexes visit she said: 'I really love how they are focusing on young people, it seems to be, and issues that affect younger people.  It’s lovely that they’re young and energetic and up with it, and although there is a lot of protocol and rules and stuff about it, they seem to be really relaxed.'"

The Duke and Duchess visited the Royal Flying Doctor Service which is celebrating its 90th year.

They learned more about the life-saving role the aviation service provides for people living in rural and regional areas.

Meghan posed for a photo with Nerrie Madden, Lilly Myles, and Terri Lee Leach. Nerrie said that Meghan happily agreed to a photo and up close was "beautiful, just as natural as you'd expect".

A nice video covering the arrival and engagement.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world, providing extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to people over an area of 7.69 million square kilometres. Delivered by a dedicated team of professionals, using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, and supported by a vast number of volunteers and supporters, the RFDS is vital for those that live, work and travel in rural and remote Australia.

In 90 years, the service has come a long way. From a single leased Qantas plane in 1928, today they have a fleet of 69 planes, 115 road service vehicles and 1,400 professionals delivering emergency medical and primary health services across the country.

The RFDS flew 26,412,555 kilometres in the last year, which is the equivalent  of 34 times to the moon and back to deliver vital health services.

Flying Dog Aaron is proud to be part of the team.

The couple cut the 90th anniversary cake.

Next, Harry and Meghan saw first-hand the hardships local farmers are facing at Mountain View Farm.

The couple with the Woodley family.

A very touching tweet from Rebecca English.

The family have been running a livestock and crop farm for over five generations since 1887.

Harry and Meghan joined the family feeding the cattle.

In an incredibly thoughtful gesture, Meghan brought banana bread she baked at Admiralty House last night and Fortnum & Mason Royal Blend tea for tea with the Woodley family. A Palace aide said: "She loves baking and just decided to take something along with her on the spur of the moment." I thought it a lovely personal touch.

More from Hannah Furness: 'The family, who gather at the farm for teas and long lunches regularly, were impressed with the Duchess’s gift of banana bread. The mother-to-be baked the cake, packed with chocolate chips and a touch of ginger, at Admiralty House in Sydney on Tuesday night. Benita Woodley, one of the recipients, said of Meghan: “She said if you go to someone’s house you always bring something, so she did. “She said she was worried about the bananas, that she’d put too many bananas in it. But the Duke said there’s never too many bananas.” Meghan said she is “running on adrenaline” as she undertakes her gruelling first major tour while pregnant, she has said, saying she is feeling “pretty well so far”.

A video from the visit.

9 News reports:

'One Dubbo farming family doing it tough have revealed how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have sympathised and listened to their plight as the drought continues to grip NSW. Scott and Elaine Woodley, joined by their 23-year-old daughter Laura, were visited by Harry and Meghan and explained to the the young royals the devastating effects of the drought. “Mountain View”, the Woodley’s mixed cattle and sheep property has been run by the same family since 1887.
Scott Woodley said the impact of the drought on the family’s farm had been immense. “It’s been tough, it’s been over two years now. We can handle droughts, but when you get on top of each other it’s really challenging,” said Woodley. “It’s been testing for the family especially when you’ve got two girls away at university. Financially it’s been very hard.”
Woodley said the young royals talked about “all sorts of things” with the family. “They were very interested in what we’ve been going through for the past two years,” said Woodley. “They understood that while it might look green here now, there’s no moisture underneath. “They were interested in the hay and how the prices went through the roof once it got really serious.”

Whilst departing, Meghan asked the car to stop so she could meet a group of people who waited to see them. The video is filled with sweet moments of Harry with the children and Meghan received another gift for the nursery.

Next, The Duke and Duchess travelled to Victoria Park to join people from Dubbo and surrounding areas at a picnic in the park to celebrate community spirit within the region. To the delight of those in Dubbo, the couple brought the rain with them.

During Harry's speech Meghan held an umbrella over him.

During an inspiring speech Harry referenced his grandparents visit to the area in 1954 and the resilience of locals throughout the drought.

The Prince also addressed mental health and suicide rates. People reports:

'Showing they are the perfect team, the pregnant royal then walked on stage and insisted on returning the favor, sheltering him as he spoke to the crowd. Appreciating her gesture, the prince said, “it’s all right, I’ve got my wife.”
Harry began his speech by praising the people of Australia and the country town saying, “you are the salt of the earth, honest, hardworking and as tough as they come and that resilience, sense of humor and commitment to the land are the qualities that make you unique.” “You are the backbone of this country,” Harry continued. “The rich traditions of the Australian outback are legendary. You have a lot to be proud of. But I know that life has not been easy.”
Harry also joked about the rain saying it was a “gift,” but shifted the conversation to a more serious note by pointing out that weather was not enough to end the region’s long drought. Harry, who has been open about his own struggles with mental health, also addressed another very serious impact of the drought — an increase in suicide among young male in rural areas. “You have just lived through two years of drought and despite the recent welcome rain it is going to take a lot more and a long time to recover,” Harry continued. “It must be hard not to lose hope when you endure so many dry months end on end knowing that you are powerless to do anything about it.”
“We know that suicide rates in rural and remote areas are greater than in urban populations and this may especially be true among young men in remote regions,” he continued. ‘But outside all of that, here’s what I also know. You are one huge community and with that comes an unparalleled level of internal support and understanding.” The prince told the crowd it is critical they ask for that help. “You need to know a part of being strong and tough is having the courage to ask for help when you need it. You must not silently suffer.” “But you need to know, part of being strong and tough is having the courage to ask for help when you need it. You must not silently suffer.”

Speaking on his own journey Harry added, “You are all in this together and, if I may say, personally, we are all in this together. Because asking for help was one of the best decisions that I ever made. You will be continually amazed at how life changes for the better.”

The royal pair met representatives from Drought Angels. The small charity is run by big hearts, who offer a listening ear, a warm hug and personalised support given to each family.

The couple spent time meeting locals.

The event was dubbed 'Picnic in the Park'.

In the afternoon, the Duke and Duchess visited a local school working to improve the education outcomes of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Students opened up their classrooms to present their work. Emily Andrew said: "At Dubbo Senior College the netball and football teams were standing in the pouring rain so Meghan and Harry shook practically everyone’s hand as they came under cover. And then they were mobbed by the entire school! Got a little crazy but they were loving it."

In an embargoed engagement, Meghan carried out her first solo of the tour, meeting pupils from the Girls Academy. Emily Andrews spoke to the girls afterwards: Schoolgirl Kieasha Ross, 17, said: “Us being Aboriginal girls and her being of a different race and being accepted into the Royal Family shows us anyone can be accepted. It’s great that someone who’s bi-racial and American can do this. It makes her a role model.”

The Duchess selected a mixture of Australian, American and French brands for her smart casual ensemble today.

Meghan wore the Serena Williams Boss Oversized Blazer. Meghan has been close friends with the tennis superstar for several years and cheered her on in the Wimbledon final over the summer. The $145 style  features a plaid print, notched collars and patch pockets.

The Duchess wore the Maison Kitsune Oxford Fox Embroidery Classic Shirt. It's described as: "This Maison Kitsune shirt is composed of classic oxford shirting and detailed with a tonal embroidered fox at the breast. Fold-over collar and button placket. Long sleeves with button cuffs." (With thanks to Meghan's Fashion and Perth Fashion).

Meghan's black jeans are by Australian brand Outland Denim. The Harriet Jeans retail for £140.

Premium denim with a conscience, Outland Denim are all about premium cuts ethically crafted from raw materials. The brand offers sustainable employment and training to women rescued from human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Founder James Bartle revealed his time in Asia inspired him to make a difference during an interview with the The Good Trade:

'I saw the streets lined with brothels. Young men and women would jump out onto the street to try and acquire our business. I wasn’t ignorant to the sex trade, but when we stood in front of one of the clubs and a young girl of probably only 12 or 13 years old stood there with fear in her eyes waiting for what could have even been her first customer, I was changed. I pictured one of my nieces (I had no daughters at the time) being trapped in a situation like that. That’s what broke me.
Funding the project has been one of the hardest parts. We sold sausages at local events to gather funds and borrowed money off friends and family to pay the next month's wages. We started another business to help fund the project, and there have been so many generous people who donated money, too. I remember counting out a jar full of gold coins my uncle had given me to try and make up the money needed to get to Cambodia for one of the many trips back and forth. The very first pair of jeans we made were such a long way from resembling the product we have today. They looked like jeans but fit more like a pair of my daughter’s leggings around the thighs with room for a circus around the waist. We had so much to learn!'

Meghan sported the $178 J Crew Sadie Ankle Boots in black suede.

The boots are currently available in sizes 5-12 on the J Crew website and Nordstrom.

The Duchess selected a necklace by Sydney based handmade jewellery brand Natalie Marie. Meghan wore the Precious Initial Necklace. It's described as "A hand engraved disc with a raised, milligrain edge with the option of an additional diamond inset."

Meghan completed the look with her Pascale Monvoisin Cauri N°2 9-karat rose gold, onyx and diamond necklace. It's available at Net-A-Porter.

And completed the look with her Adina Reyter 14k Gold Three Diamond Amigos Curve Earrings.

Tomorrow's Schedule, Thursday 18 October:

  • Harry and Meghan will fly to Melbourne where the day will begin with a short walk to Government House, meeting members of the public along the way, before attending an official Reception at Government House. A diverse group of young Victorian leaders and community members will attend the Reception, including Queen's Young Leader Hunter Johnson from The Man Cave. A demonstration of various sporting activities will take place in the grounds, with ambassadors from the This Girl Can campaign.
  • Following the Reception at Government House, The Duke and Duchess will visit a social enterprise cafΓ© which offers leadership, mentoring and training programmes for young Aboriginal people.
  • In the afternoon, Their Royal Highnesses will visit a primary school to meet students who are involved in sustainability programmes. Upon departure from the school, The Duke and Duchess will travel on an iconic Melbourne tram to South Melbourne beach, where they will meet volunteers from a local beach patrol programme. Here Their Royal Highnesses will learn about efforts to keep Port Phillip Bay beaches and foreshores clear of litter to reduce the negative impact on the marine environment.

It was a very memorable day in Dubbo!

  1. I love the casual look! And, yay for the ponytail. I'm so glad she's wearing another Aussie brand and how wonderful to wear a piece from Serena's collection. I'm sure she'll get flack in some quarters for "promoting" her friend's brand, but - clearly after the past few days - she's going to be criticized no matter what she does, so I hope she will continue to do as she wants. And, really, if Charles can hire his sister-in-law as his main interior designer (paying her millions directly) then Meghan can wear a piece from her friend's clothing line.

Can't wait to see more of the day. The "picnic" (can you call it that with 30,000 people attending?!) looks like it will be amazing. Can't wait to see the visit to the school this afternoon and the farm visit. Wow, they are packing so many engagements into the day.

    2. That's crazy, right? I read a tweet of a local woman saying that she was debating whether to bring a ladder to be able to see the Sussexes and when she checked about attendance she was told they are expecting 30,000! WOW.

(you mentioned it in reference to her wearing Serena's jacket)?? I'm following along in bits & pieces, so I may read things & not have the context. Is Meagan getting flack about things to do with her on this Tour?? All I am is amazed by her!

  5. I sound like a broken record, but it's really obvious Meghan and Harry are determined to come across as the royals-next-door. It's totally appropriate as their role in the RF is not as ceremonial as W&K. It also suits their personality.

I love this outfit. It's so casual chic. I love the skinny jeans, shirt, blazer, boots combo. Love the casual ponytail too. Also great to see that Harry is branching out from his navy blue suits too.

And I think I just saw the first real sign of pregnancy on Meghan. Not in a baby bump or anything but I notice more silvers on her hair. Pregnant women are urged to stay away from hair coloring.

On IG, I always end up scrolling through and then get sickened by the comments. I really wish the KP twitter and IG would monitor and remove the terrible comments that get posted on threads about Meghan. I think it's awful to just leave them there as if all comments are equally acceptable. JMO though.

  13. Can you feel their love, yes! They are just the most adorable couple. There style, warmth and happiness is so palpable.
They both are so relatable I am sure the palace realizes they have magic in the RF for many years to come. They are distinctly different then W&K who I love and the difference has absolutely nothing what so ever to do with the fact that W&K are destain to be king and queen. Its about a natural reserve in W&K personalities vs. M&H. Its all good. M&H always seem to be having fun, getting the most out of each encounter with people. A pleasure to watch. Love their choices of attire for the day. Both are casual and chic. Meghan is wearing exactly what she would if she was out for a day in Canada or the USA. She looks like every other girl walking down the street in her oversized shirt, blazer and JCrew booties. The ponytail is the extra bonus. I think she has caught up on her sleep, she seems especially energized today and as always beautiful

This visit is exactly what the townsfolk of Dubbo need right now a massive pick me up and the Duke and Duchess are just the people to do it. Harry is going to fit in very well with what he is wearing her looks fantastic. I am so pleased Megan is supporting Australian design, right down to her necklace, it means a lot. 1. I agree Ali, sadly this outfit does nothing for me either - it's way more of an off-duty look than an on-duty one for me. The only thing I really like about her look today is the ponytail, which looks really smart.

That said, I love all the little personal touches that are such a feature of this couple: Meghan baking banana bread while on tour, stopping the car to talk to more people and Meghan holding the umbrella over Harry during his speech - just adorable!

      Delete
    2. So, she should have worn a dress and heels to visit a farm and a grassy park in the pouring rain? And Harry a suit? All of the royals - except the queen - dress according to the event, which sometimes means more casual. I don't think they are doing anything other royals do (Kate comes to mind at her recent event wearing leather boots and jeggings to meet children in an outdoor setting). IMO both Meghan and Harry look casual but smart, especially Meghan with her blazer and button down shirt.

      Delete
    3. Agree with you in the kitchen. The farmers on the land are finding it really difficult to keep the feed up to there cattle, there is none, so they are buying it in with what money they have, putting food on the table is difficult let alone anything else. Australians are supporting them as best we can financially with fundraisers, donations ect.. So it was more than appropriate what both Harry and Megan wore for there visit. They looked as they should have for the days event, not overly formal, this was not the occasion for it. Taking morning tea again was spot on, a beautiful gesture. They are both doing amazingly well.

      Delete
    4. ITK, I completely agree! :)

      Delete
    5. inthekitchen, no one was suggesting dress and heels:)

      Delete
    6. Inthekitchen no, there’s a WORLD of difference between a skirt/suit and heels and this quite casual look. Disingenuous of you to suggest otherwise.

That said I think the *styling* of this look is what reads as just a bit too casual for what should be a “smart casual” look. Here’s what I would change:

      - blazer - I am aware it is supposed to be oversized but it looks like Meghan could go down a size or two and still achieve the oversized look

      - shirt - again size down. WAY down. I like that the shirt is tunic length (which in my book - personally - is what one should do for skinny jeans or jeggings unless for a totally off clock occasion) but it should be more fitted.

      - boot/jean interaction - the bunching here is problematic. Hem the jeans to be either way more tapered so they glide smoothly into the top of the boot, or shorter so there is a slight space between the boot and Jean cuff. As is reminds me of one of kate’s worst looks.

      Delete
    7. Shannon the *styling* is what Meghan prefers. Her outfits follow a distinct style. You can see it running through everything she wears. She likes the oversized look. She likes the long slightly informal look. This outfit was classic Meghan. And FWIW this is also typical Southern California workplace chic. I would even call it "Southern California preppy" - although one might think that term is an oxymoron.

      Delete
    8. Rosman I was not commenting on what Meghan prefers when it comes to styling. I commented on what made that particular styling read (to people looking on) as perhaps a touch too casual. Tightening up the sizing would still keep the long, oversized look, as I also said. To me these pieces literally look too big, even taking into account the deliberate oversized look. Like she’s wearing a size 8 when normally she’d be in a 2 and the pieces would still look oversized.

I normally love how she works proportions (loose on top & tight on bottom and vice versa) and see what she was going with here, but this is too much. Even though I love all the pieces, in fact I bought the boots for myself today :-)

I really like her hair in a ponytail and I like her outfit too. I love their interactions with the kids!

I know right, bluhare. This is one impressive Duchess! Then worries whether there is too much banana in the cake, to which her Prince husband and heir to the British throne answers: "There can never be too much banana". This is unprecedented. I am loving this sooooo much.

      Delete
    7. "to which her Prince husband replies: There can never be too much banana." Haaaaaah. :)

    8. I love banana brea! It was such a nice touch, the duchess is really good at this! She is probably exhausted, when I was pregnant I was tired all the time.

      Delete
    9. Very impressive. Like someone mentioned I am not surprised she made the bread - I am surprised she had the energy ! Between jetlag and pregnancy that takes some willpower.

    10. It is always nice to bring something when invited to someones home. That is a pretty universal gesture.

      Delete
    11. I wonder how that worked. Did she call ahead to make sure all the ingredients were available? Or did she or someone from the team make a store run after arrival. Did Harry help? ;) I can imagine her shooing him out of the kitchen. My daughter lives in NSW and makes banana cake almost every week. She freezes the bananas when they get ripe enough so that they don't over-ripen. Then thaws them when she is ready to bake. I tried that and then forgot the bananas were in the freezer. Not a pretty sight. I had first mashed them. Maybe that was the problem. I'll have to ask if she freezes them whole.
Bananas must be a thing with those two.

  21. Oh no don’t like her blazer at all, in fact it looks like something I gave away when I cleaned out my fathers closet...back in 1993, and the untucked, unbuttoned shirt screams underdressed not casual...so sorry but J Crew has some really nice waist length sweaters and tops that would have been better in my opinion...like this pink one...this jewel tone pink would look gorgeous with her complexion

Thank you, Charlotte for taking the time to write about the history of and the purpose for each area visited. I enjoy the pictures but reading about areas I’ll probably never visit is like taking a trip. Thanks very much!

  24. Can’t say I’m a fan of her outfit, because it looks like what the women in my office will wear for casual Friday. But, the clothes don’t even matter because I’m very impressed with what I’ve seen of their engagements so far today. The banana bread was such a sweet touch, and stopping the car to greet people was very nice as well. I also saw the video of Meghan holding the umbrella for Harry during his speech. They’re cute.

  25. Today, Meghan is dressed in the height of casual chic attire. Every blouse is not meant to be tucked in. It is an oversize blouse meant to be worn with skinny jeans (does anyone rock skinnys like Meghan). Meghan is dressed absolutely spot on considering the stops they will be making today and meet the general public in schools and parks. Looking at the photo of HM taken many years ago visiting the same town gives one pause to realize how far we have come in an effort to be one with the people on the part of the RF through H&M. Who tucks cotton shirts today ???? LOL

    1. Actually I think Catherine looks pretty awesome in skinny jeans too but they aren't as well liked on her by the people who comment on the blog.

Meghan's clothing choices today were on point for the activities. With her pregnancy hardly showing, they probably could have waited a couple more weeks to announce but I am guessing they were excited to share the news. And letting immediate family know at Eugenie's wedding was a great way to tell everyone first hand as they were all together in the same place.

I love that they stopped to see the people who were waiting off the road. Prince Harry is SO good with children! It speaks volumes as to how nice they are that little ones will go right up to them. was also very kind for her to bake bread as a gift.! I’m impressed she made time to do that.. I liked her casual look today it was very pulled together and loose enough so people weren’t able to stare at her stomach.
This look made her more approachable in a setting where people are experiencing hardship. if you follow news, you will see that First Ladies of a US state (the governor’s wife, a mayor’s wife ) or the nation ( same title used for a President ‘s wife ) will wear casual looks when they are in areas that have been through tough times. For example , Mrs Trump & Mrs Obama have worn causal looks to greet children , hurricane victims, and people in less well off areas. It’s very considerate.

  29. Love, love everything about the outfit *except* that I think the white shirt (pictured on the model) would look cleaner with the ensemble, since the blazer is oversized (which I also love, by the way). Love the ponytail, the boots, the skinny pants.

I can't help but think she must feel swampy mid-way through the engagements lol! Hopefully she has a moment for a quick refresh.

I'm sure Meghan will get a lot of flack for stopping the car to greet the locals who'd been waiting for them -- I'm sure people will say she's trying to hard -- but I thought it was a really special gesture.

She BAKED banana bread! That is all. I mean, if that's not a genuine touch, then I don't know what is.

She admitted she was running on adrenaline -- I hope she continues to feel better and better as she adjusts to the time zone. I cannot imagine how exhausted they must both be falling into bed every night after so many engagements and being "on" for so many people. That can really catch up to a person (not to mention a pregnant person!), so I hope they're able to stay rested.

    Can't wait for more!

  30. Congratulations Meghan and Harry on your upcoming Spring 2019 joy of a baby.

I like both of them in casual. It is good to be versatile in such casual image and be relatable to everyday life style of city commuters. This is typical of what I see around me, including my self having every piece of clothing style Meghan is wearing in a less pricey version.

This is a fast forward and active couple with packed surprises in less than a year of their engagement. They keep getting more and more interesting.

    3. For me it says a lot if someone is counting the minutes of rain. It shows how wanted and needed the rain is at your place.

We're a bit drier than normal this year too but the nature is still green (not all fields but the forests are). I love, love green nature. I feel very lucky to live here. Water is the most important thing for nature and I feel for all people living in arid, semi-arid places.
So...I wish you lots and lots of rainy days!

      Delete
    4. Anon15, inthekitchen and Unknown, thank you so much for your kind words. We ended up getting 22mm of rain over the last 24 hours so that will tide us over for another 2 weeks. The storms have been very patchy in our area though - some farms in our region have had as much as us/a little more, others within a five minute drive only got a few mm.

Unknown, your first sentence sums up our situation perfectly! Thankyou also for your kind wishes of lots and lots of rainy days! - it means a lot. :) :) I started counting minutes of rain because after so little for so long, two minutes of a decent downpour can appear deceptively like a lot and I hate getting my hopes up then realizing the rain gauge is basically empty.
Your part of the world sounds like a very beautiful place.
The worst part about this drought is how widely spread it is - it's hard to buy in feed when no-one else has much/any to sell - prices are exorbitant due to widespread scarcity and just because you place an order for hay or silage, doesn't mean there is an adequate supply to fill your request.

Just re-read my last paragraph - I sound like such a downer but then I figure I always appreciate hearing about the lives/cultural circumstances of other people "on the ground" in other parts of the world so maybe Charlotte and all the lovely readers on this blog might not mind.
It's not the first drought we've had and won't be the last, we have our health plus enjoyable blogs and online communities for royal fashion, jewellery and friendship ;) so it's not all bad. ;) I may not be royal but I am pregnant and can bake banana bread so maybe I should make some - maybe it's the secret to making it rain! ;) ;) ;)
Looking forward to following the rest of the tour with you all. xo

I think Meghan's clothing choices today sent such a good message, and she seems to be supporting everyone from abused women in Cambodia to a tennis superstar. I thought the look was totally appropriate, (she's out visiting farms and agricultural communities) and her choices were casual and chic. She's not visiting people in their offices. I have always loved the oversized blazer look, and Meghan looks charming here. Wearing the shirt untucked is very current way to style a white shirt with jeans.

You are back at what you do uniquely best; the tours which are also my favorite. Mr. Charlotte is also back again with the favorite logos. It is good to find the presence of both of you.

Meghan’s banana bread looks wholesome and healthy presented sliced. It seems she used wheat flour and natural ingredients made with love and in a spirit of sharing to break bread together. It is a thoughtful and exemplary care made especially during a grueling schedule.

  37. Harry & Meghan were fabulous, an amazing Day 2! All of the engagements were meaningful and it is lovely seeing how personal & in touch this gorgeous couple are. How caring and thoughtful it was of Meghan, that after yesterday’s long engagements, she made banana bread in the Admiralty House kitchen. And then shared it today, with others who are experiencing a stressful time.

Loved Harry & Meghan’s look, from head to toe! Casual, comfortable & appropriate for the places they were visiting today. And a nod to an ethical designer is thoughtful. So many interesting moments, even watching them feed the cows was cute. Harry’s speech to the thousands in the Dubbo Park was heartfelt. It was so sweet that as he spoke, Meghan held the umbrella over him. She appeared quite emotional & rubbed Harry’s back as he said seeking help for his mental health issues was the best thing he ever did.

I think a crisp, white shirt worn untucked would have been fine, however, I would have preferred a shorter version. This one is too long and looks like she can't wait to be in maternity wear. I like the look a lot better without the jacket but maybe she needed it for warmth.

What a truly lovely gesture of Meghan, baking that cake!! I mean - hello? This woman has flown half way round the world, must suffer from jet-lag, is newly pregnant (for the first time!), just had a day full of public frenzy - and then goes into a kitchen that she doesn´t know and bakes a cake, because "you do that when you are invited into someone´s house"? 50. One (of many) of the reasons I love Meghan is her choosing to wear the Outland Denim jeans! The story of how the company founder decided to use the proceeds to help sex-trafficked girls made me cry. I love that Meghan (or maybe Jessica?) finds these brands and then wears them, knowing she will be giving them an enormous boost. She really knows how to make the most of her position and knows the sartorial power she wields. She has long talked about helping people (women, in particular) in need and I am so happy to see her continuing to do this in creative ways as a royal duchess.

I also loved how the company tweeted back thanks to all of the people and media outlets who tweeted about the company's mission. A great way to keep the information in the forefront of people's minds. Good luck to Outland Demin - I hope they completely sell out so they can help as many girls and women as possible!!

Anyone else notice that Harry is wearing a dark and thicker ring on his right hand (in addition to the wedding band on his left)? His speech at the community picnic was just wonderful and Meghan holding the umbrella really added an element of unity between the two. They really put in quite a day in Dubbo and I can only imagine feel a little wilted after being outside in such a variety of weather! Everything from her ponytail to her untucked shirt and jeans, to baking bread to bring with tea, to holding the umbrella show what a nice, caring and down to earth person she is. Both of them looked happy and at ease in every single photo. I know some people didn't like the big untucked shirt but it did keep the focus off her bump and the how big is it speculation. Remember ladies who have been pregnant it is quite uncomfortable when people keep looking at your belly and even when talking to you the eyes keep going back to your belly. Anyway, that's my take on the untucked shirt.

  57. Really nice day for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. I'm glad it was so great, because I really don't like Meghan's outfit at all. When I first saw it, I thought she must have been cold and Harry gave her his jacket to wear. I'm all for dressing down where appropriate, but I'm also for looking the part and this doesn't look the part at all. This is not a comment about anything but her outfit. It looks like one that Kate wore if I recall. A long jacket, skinnies and booties - I think it was in New York or something. I didn't like that one either.

But the engagement was amazing. So nice to see how welcomed they were and so cute to see their interactions.

Kate, on the other hand, seemed to relinquish her personal style, and has for the most part, but not always, chosen to adopt the royal tradition of the dreaded coat dress.. I do understand that she is of a different status, being a future queen, but still..
That being said, I love all Meghan’s choices so far this tour, except the flapping trench coat, and I am so glad she is finally in a ponytail.

Well, our duchess definitely knows how to dress, and how to dress considering the situation . Yesterday was already a Win at any moment , and to day ... to day she managed to sort of melt’ into the crowds and disappear thanks to her clothes . I love the blazer, which is very chic but looks so casual when paired with a simple shirt and jeans ..... I can relate a lot to her as I too like loose fitting clothes and don’t often button my coat up .... LOL the way she looks at Harry when holding the umbrella , she is quite motherly to him , not only does she understand people but she seems to feel like them .... H&M
certainly are the royals who will be able to change the mind of a lot of people about royalty ...

  69. I agree with everybody who says Meghan looks great. I love the fact that you can always see chemistry between her and Harry, they look so sweet together. But I must say that all these articles (not to mention comments) about Meghan, her pregnancy, age etc are just so awful and I really feel bad for her.
There is a woman who is doing her best, seems kind, clearly in love with her husband and she is criticized for everything from her clothes to her age. Reading all the articles and comments, one would think that everybody met their other half in kindergarten, nobody has ever had a failed relationship (God forbid a failed marriage), have the perfect relationship with all their family members, had their children at the age of 20 and at the same time a successful career. In spite of all this, Meghan manages to show incredible self confidence. When I look at her I see a woman who is comfortable in her own skin. Who respects tradition, looks and plays the part but at the same time manages to stay true to herself. For me it is a huge thing and deserves respect.

  70. The Duchess of Sussex is so aporopriately dressed. The video of them at the farm shows people wearing boots, jeans, cowboy buckle belts, cowboy hats and shirts, that can be worn loose, being worn that way. The Duchess of Sussex is dressed appropriately for this occasion, in addition to the Duke being very casual. They were also scheduled to play netball and football (rain cancellation) so totally appropriately dressed. Thanks, Charlotte. The videos really give great insight into the fashion choices made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Another lovely look for the Duchess. Smart, casual and very appropriate for the trip in the countryside. They both look great and at their best meeting people. Baking a cake for tea has been a nice idea and a kind gesture. Waiting for tomorrow, I want to thank Charlotte for the amazing job she's doing!

Harry looks so handsome, one of his best looks ive seen lately. im just not sure what she was thinkin? the overly large jacket and the skin tight pants. it was oddly out of proportion to me. really liked her under the umbrella smile! cant wait to see the rest of the tour.
