Harry and Meghan Cheer on Competitors for Invictus Driving Challenge!

Following a sombre morning at Hyde Park where they unveiled an Anzac Memorial, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled by boat to Cockatoo Island for the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge.

The Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge decided the first medals of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018.

The challenge took place against the dramatic backdrop of Sydney Harbour, with 24 competitors from 12 nations tested on their driving skills as well as their speed, precision, agility and teamwork whilst handling Jaguar vehicles.

They were welcomed by Invictus Games Foundation Chairman Sir Keith Mills, and CEO Dominic Reid.

There was an electric atmosphere on the Island for the beginning of the Games ahead of tonight's opening ceremony.

The Games showcase the positive impact sport has on the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and ill servicemen and women. Following the highly successful Invictus Games in London 2014, Orlando 2016 and Toronto 2017, the Sydney Games will involve 500 competitors from 18 nations competing for medals in 11 adaptive sports across Greater Sydney.

Harry and Meghan met competitors and their families.

They had the opportunity to chat with staff and volunteers.

A behind-the-scenes look before the challenge got underway.

Cockatoo Island is an extraordinary foreshore site protected and managed by the Harbour Trust. In 2010, the one-time penal establishment, reformatory school and naval ship dockyard was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, together with 10 other significant convict sites. Also known as Wareamah, meaning ‘women’s land’ in the Dharug language, Cockatoo Island has emerged as an iconic contemporary arts and live performance venue.

Prince Harry tested his skills on the children’s driving course.

More from the Mail Online:

'The competition turned serious as Harry competed against two boys, one form Australian and another from Holland in a race across a track strewn with rocks and other obstacles. A chuckling prince enthusiastically pursued the boys' cars with his own calling out 'alright I'm coming, I'll catch you,' while sporting a giant grin.
The Prince was bested by 13-year-old Danyan Jones from Ballina in the NSW Northern Rivers whose father Jamie Tanner, 35, will represent Australia in the wheelchair tennis and rugby events. Mr Tanner was a soldier in the Australian army who served in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan before he was medically discharged in 2016 with terrible injuries and PTSD.
Danyan bragged about his victory after defeating Harry, who mostly enjoyed himself but looked frustrated at time during the friendly race. 'Harry was good at remote control cars, but I was better – obviously,' Danyan said.'

Prince Harry awards the first medal of the event.

The Duchess presented medals.

A very nice shot of the couple by Natalie Oliveri.

The Duchess wore the Altuzarra Acacia blazer in white. It's described as: "With a renewed focus on more feminine tailoring, Joseph Altuzarra uses shapely darts and a pleat-flared back hem to give this stretch-wool jacket curve-defining shape." It's quite possible Meghan's jacket is from an upcoming collection because the piece is not available in white online. The Duchess also owns the blazer in black.

Getting into the spirit of the games, Meghan wore the official Invictus Sydney button up shirt.

Meghan's sunglasses are the Illesteva Palm Beach style.

The Duchess opted for a pair of The Looker Not Guilty Jeans by one of her go-to denim brands Mother Denim. The $196 style is described as "a classic skinny jean in a form fitting silhouette with super stretch fabric."

And the Duchess sported her Tabitha Simmons Millie Slingback pumps from this morning. The $695 style is described: "Set on a slim heel, this pair of Tabitha Simmon's pumps has a point-toe silhouette, bow-embellished heel and are crafted from black suede."

Meghan accessorised with stacking rings by Canadian jeweller Ecksand.

A word of thanks to the UFO No More team for their outstanding work identifying Meghan's look.

This evening, the couple will attend a reception hosted by the NSW Premier before the Invictus Games Opening Ceremony. Kensington Palace shared this photo of Harry rehearsing his speech, with Meghan watching on.

It promises to be a very exciting night!

  3. No one rocks skinnys quite like Meghan and the white blazer with the high low design is fabulous. Unfortunately, for me I am not a fan of a dressy sling back pump with the otherwise casual look. I would have thought one of her great pairs of flats or wedges would have given the look a more complete look rather then a detraction. Additionally, at this point a flat/wedge would have given her back a break after a long day/night standing in pumps.

    1. I agree about the shoes. They seem a bit too dressy for the rest of the outfit. I do love the blazer.

    2. Agreed! I would have gone with the wedges here. Especially getting in and out of the boat. Standing around on grass, etc. This is longer day for her than the previous days.

    3. I have to disagree on the first part of your statement. Actually Duchess Kate was the first royal to rock a great and enviable look in the skinny Jean department. I too think Meghan really knows how to make the skinny jeans look fabulous!

    4. I totally agree. Jeans look silly with those shoes plus she’s out on the grass. Trainers or flats or if she has to have a heel some wedges. I’m also not a fan of stark white with pitch black. Love the glasses and stacking rings.

  4. Yes, the dress is visibly tight around the middle. But there's no defined waistline to pinch, so it's probably just an all-over gentle pressure. As long as the buttons aren't gapping, there's no problem. She looked lovely in this dress! And she's certainly learned the hat game very quickly indeed for an American who had probably only worn beach hats or sun hats in her life!

You are SO fast at getting posts up, Charlotte! Are you ever sleeping? Respect!

  5. I've always said super.skinny jeans arent that great for work if you are meeting people, so even though Meghan looks nice as always, I think I have to say I would prefer if the jeans weren't quite as fitted.

      Ok . . . I'm the old biddy!

    3. Now, you are not. And yes, we are:)))

    4. They are tight, but I don't mind them. Meghan wears them well and she has that chic high-low blazer on. I think that for this occasion, skinny pants work well. Of course, I've grown up in the age of the skinny pant/jean, so I know I probably embrace them more than others haha

    5. I do like the outfit, Becca. I think I like Anett's idea of flats instead, but she does look lovely. the black looks less obvious than denim would I think, but I just think of my job, when I can and do wear skinny jeans when I don't have to go anywhere, but they'd be frowned on when I have to go meet people.

I´m sitting on my rocking chair here, too, my ladies, and I LOVE this outfit - INCLUDING the heels!! Could be me, totally, from head to toe, minus the sunglasses, that is - although they look super-cool on her!! There you go, says this old lady waving her walking stick!!! ;-)))))

  6. I really like her hair with a side part. I think it’s very flattering to her.

  7. She is a beautiful woman who always look lovely, but I wish she would wear some colors other than black or navy.

  8. I am not crazy about the white blazer, I think the shirt and jeans with trainers would have been perfect. Meghan must feel the cold because she always adds a coat or jacket to her outfit and sometimes I think that can look messy or thrown together. For me the white blazer is a dressy piece , whereas her outfit is casual except for the shoes. I personally like a preppy casual look for occasions. I love her sunglasses. Sinead

  9. Why not the flats she wore yesterday, or the wedges? Shoes are a miss for me; and those Wales ladies do love their skin tight jeans for sports days, don’t they?

  10. Hoping for cocktail dress at the reception!

  11. I’m enjoying the white blazer, the back of the blazer is my favorite part. The pic of the Duke practicing his speech with his wife watching is sweet. Thank you so much, Charlotte.

    1. The blazer is my favorite part of this outfit, as well. It's sporty and dressy at the same time.

  12. Agreed about the wedges or flats, but otherwise great look and I love the Invictus shirt.
But the main reason I am commenting - the photo of Meghan watching Harry rehearsing his speech resonates with me so deeply! I think it is the most touching picture of the Sussexes I've seen. It shows how much of a partner they are for each other, how supportive and patient their relationship is, how much they really do work together as a team. There is some quiet stength for me and some patience and strong love in this picture! I can't stop looking at it!
I hope they are creating happy memories on the tour. It feels like they are givimg so much happiness to others alomg the way, so I really hope they are enjoying it too. Well, it looks so, so hopefully they are havimg an amazing time!

  14. The Games are officially beginning - Harry must be so proud, especially since this time last year, Meghan was on the sidelines as his girlfriend and now she can take part.

I love Meghan's blazer and I'm a fan of skinny jeans. To me, these skinny jeans work because they are a nice dark wash -- not faded like that old pair of Kate's (I'm not attempting to compare the two, just fyi). I do think the red dress that other woman had on is much brighter and more fun, but I think Meghan probably prefers pants when she can wear them, especially for a sportier event.

  15. cute little day she was pretty not a fan of white and black like that but it works today. I love her hairstyle and makeup

  16. Thank you so much for your amazing coverage of this extraordinary tour. Meghan and Harry have such a lovely, genuine way of conducting themselves. Their message is clear and genuine. As far as Meghan's clothes are concerned, I don't think she wants them to be the star of the show. She always looks beautifully polished and well put together, but I think the understated colors are meant to keep the message of the tour at the top of the list. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing all the things she wears but this is not a fashion show, but a tour to shine the spotlight on more important causes. They are doing an incredible job of getting their message across.

  18. I've changed my mind - I really like ALL of Meghan's looks this tour. I was raving about the early looks, then thought they got a little meh...but now the ones I wasn't crazy about are definitely growing on me. I think she looks amazing in everything. And such a sweet, friendly face - Meghan and Harry are pretty glorious, I can't think of a more positive, inspiring couple on the planet right now!

  19. I love those sunglasses although they wouldn't suit me lol. She looks great and so happy!

  20. I am a huge fan of denim- I have been toying with the latest additions lately, but jeans are still my BIG favorite. I am not sure how I could get dressed everyday without a pair of jeans. I admit I fall in and out of love with each of my pairs of jeans constantly
