The Sussexes Return to St George's Chapel for Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's Wedding!

Ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's upcoming Royal Tour, the couple attended the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank today.

The wedding undoubtedly brought back fond memories for the couple who exchanged their own vows at the same venue, St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle less than five months ago. The Duke and Duchess joined 850 guests at the chapel this morning, including a host of well-known faces such as Demi Moore, Stephen Fry, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss.

An arrival video of  the Sussexes and Cambridges.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte were page boy and bridesmaid for the day.

They joined a very royal bridal party, including Savannah and Isla Phillips, Mia Tindall, Maud Windsor (daughter of Freddie and Sophie Windsor who attends Thomas's Battersea with George), Robbie William's daughter Theodora, and Louis de Givenchy. The Earl and Countess of Wessex's children Louise and James were special attendants.

The floral displays were created by Rob van Helder using foliage and flowering branches, sourced locally from Windsor Great Park, combined with roses, spray roses, hydrangeas, dahlias and berries. The designs reflected the rich and vibrant tones of autumn and also included Liquidambar trees. The floral designer said: "It has been the greatest privilege and honour to create the flowers for Princess Eugenie and Jack, on their Wedding day. Her Royal Highness has been very involved from the start and has been instrumental in the autumnal theme."

Maid of honour Princess Beatrice wearing Ralph and Russo, and mother of the bride Sarah, Duchess of York, who carried the same purse her late mother wore for her wedding to Prince Andrew.

Her Majesty and Prince Philip were in great spirits.

The Royal family enjoyed chatting as they awaited the bride's arrival.

It was great to see Meghan and Anne talking away before the service began.

The bride smiled and waved as she turned to face the cameras.

Eugenie and Jack have been together for over seven years. The pair announced their engagement in January, choosing Windsor as the venue because it's been a place Eugenie spent much of her childhood. Jack works as a brand ambassador for George's Clooney's tequila company Casamigos, which the actor recently sold to Diageo.

During a pre-wedding interview aired this morning, the groom described Eugenie as a "bright, shining light". Eugenie, who recalled meeting him on a Swiss skiing trip said it was "love at first sight", adding: "I thought, 'what a silly hat!' and I thought, 'who’s that?' and then you came over and shook my hand and I was all butterflies and nervous. I think I rang my mum that night and said 'I’ve met this guy Jack'...and that was it I think about how it started. Jack’s the kind of guy, you know when you’re lost at a party and you can’t find anyone to talk to, and you start panicking and you need help? He’ll walk in and make everyone feel so special."

The order of service can be viewed here. The Palace said: "The Service is from the 1928 Prayer Book Service. Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank have taken great care and interest in bringing together the content of their service, working closely with the Dean of Windsor and all others involved."

Guests enjoyed performances by Andrea Boccelli.

Princess Beatrice gave a reading from The Great Gatsby.

Eugenie read the F. Scott Fitzgerald literary masterpiece shortly after meeting Jack and said the passage where Nick describes Jay Gatsby's smile "immediately reminded" her of Jack.

During his address, the Dean of Windsor said: "Of course we know that the very best of desires and intentions can be frustrated, and that marriages, even between the kindest and most careful people, can founder because of pressures unforeseen. The miracle however is that, in generation after generation, so many of us go on hoping that the keeping of the promise will be possible.  It is as if we know that it is in the exchange of self-forgetful love that we human beings understand, you might say, just what we were made for. It is with that hope in their hearts that these two people have come here today, and have made their unqualified promises "in the face of this congregation"; their families and friends and neighbours. In doing so, they have of course revealed the seriousness of their intent, but also something more.  They have acknowledged their need of your support and your encouragement; they want you to believe in them. By being here today, you have given them a kind of "reassurance" for which, I know, they will be genuinely grateful."

Eugenie's wedding band was created from gold gifted by the Queen.

Afterwards, the newlyweds travelled in the Scottish State Carriage for a short procession.

An overview.

Emily Nash shared a video of Harry and Meghan departing with Prince Charles.

Princess Eugenie was a beautiful bride in a bespoke gown designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, who founded the British-based label Peter Pilotto, in London in 2007. The brand is known for its innovative textile design, paired with a modern feminine silhouette. Eugenie and the designers worked closely together on the creation of the dress. The designers undertook archive research into previous dresses worn by members of the Royal family and identified a perfect silhouette.

During several fittings the dress was developed layer by layer, constructing it from the corset and the complex underskirt to the fitted bodice and full pleated skirt. The dress features a neckline that folds around the shoulders to a low back that drapes into a flowing full-length train.

The low back feature on the dress was at the specific request of Princess Eugenie, who had surgery aged 12 to correct scoliosis. She has been widely praised for choosing to show her scars on her big day.

More from the Palace:

'The fabric was designed by Mr Pilotto and Mr De Vos at their studio in East London and includes a number of symbols that are meaningful to Princess Eugenie as motifs. The symbols are a Thistle for Scotland acknowledging the couple's fondness for Balmoral, a Shamrock for Ireland as a nod to the Bride's Ferguson family, the York Rose and ivy representing the couple's home.
Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos have reinterpreted these symbols in a garland of rope like motifs, woven into a jacquard of silk, cotton and viscose blend. Once the artwork was completed, it was translated into a jacquard weave in the Como region of Italy. The result is a very modern looking fabric using a highly intricate weaving technique.'

The Queen loaned her granddaughter a beautiful tiara for the day - the Queen Mother's Greville Kokoshnik Tiara. The tiara was made by Boucheron for Mrs Greville in 1919 in the fashionable ‘kokoshnik’ style popularised in the Russian Imperial Court. The tiara is made of brilliant and rose cut diamonds pavé set in platinum, with six emeralds on either side. The tiara was bequeathed by Mrs Greville to Queen Elizabeth in 1942. Eugenie's emerald and diamond earrings were a gift from the groom.

The Wedding bouquet, created by floral designer Rob van Helden's sister, Patrice van Helden Oakes, consists of Lily of the Valley, Stephanotis pips, hints of baby blue thistles, white spray roses and trailing ivy. Sprigs of myrtle from Osbourne House are also included in the bouquet. The tradition of carrying myrtle began after Queen Victoria was given a nosegay containing myrtle by Prince Albert’s grandmother during a visit to Gotha in Germany. In the same year, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne House as a family retreat, and a sprig from the posy was planted against the terrace walls, where it continues to thrive today. The myrtle was first carried by Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, when she married in 1858.

The bridesmaids' dresses and pageboys' uniforms by Amaia Arrieta of Amaia Kids.

The design incorporates artwork by American abstract artist Mark Bradford and was included in the order of service.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s Wedding Cake, a red velvet and chocolate cake designed by London-based baker Sophie Cabot, was inspired by the rich colours of autumn.

Congratulations Eugenie and Jack! Wishing them a lifetime filled with happy memories. Guests will now enjoy a reception at the Yorks' home, the Royal Lodge. Celebrations are expected to continue tomorrow. We can expect to see official photos released over the next several days.

The Duchess wore a bespoke navy coat and dress by Givenchy. Meghan wore a gown by the fashion houses' Claire Waight Keller for her own Windsor wedding.

Meghan's matching hat is a custom piece by London-based milliner Noel Stewart.

The Duchess carried Prada Leather Gloves (with thanks to Meghan's Fashion for her ID work today).

Meghan carried the Givenchy GV3 small suede and leather cross-body bag. It's described: "Clare Waight Keller's debut GV3 cross-body bag in burgundy leather and blue suede takes inspiration from Givenchy's archived vintage styles. Meticulously crafted in Italy, it is suspended from a detachable leather shoulder strap and accompanying silver-tone metal chain strap, comprising of four slip pockets that fasten with the label's iconic double-G plaque for an elegant finishing touch."

Meghan wore her navy Manolo Blahnik BB pumps.

And completed the look with jewellery by Canadian-born designer Pippa Small. Each piece is designed in London and crafted in Rajasthan, India, by a team of highly skilled goldsmiths and stonecutters.

Meghan wore the £495 18-karat gold Herkimer diamond earrings.

The Telegraph reports:

'The Duchess added a glittering touch to her navy Givenchy dress coat and feathered hat with stacks of gold Pippa Small jewellery. She wore stud earrings, a bracelet and, on her right hand, multiple yellow-gold rings, all featuring so-called ‘Herkimer diamonds’.
Herkimer diamonds are actually clear quartz crystals that naturally appear faceted, hence their name. As well as being significantly cheaper than real diamonds, they have a more pared-back, less brilliant sparkle. The stones are set in 18ct yellow gold by Pippa Small, a British anthropologist turned jeweller who is renowned for working with indigenous tribes to create pieces using natural, uncut stones.'

And with the end of the wedding, royal watchers will be firmly turning to their focus to Harry and Meghan's tour. They arrive on the 15th and it all kicks off early on Tuesday 16th in the morning Sydney time (late Monday night for those in the UK) when the couple have a packed day scheduled. You can view the full schedule on our Meghan's Calendar page. Ahead of the Invictus Games, the Palace released a new photo of Harry and Meghan taken in the grounds of Kensington Palace. Meghan's jumper appears to be a Ralph Lauren style (with thanks to inominate93).

Schedule for Tuesday, 16 October

  • The first day of the tour will begin in Sydney at Admiralty House, the official Sydney residence of the Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove. Representatives from each of the eighteen countries who are participating in the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will be present.
  • The Duke and Duchess will then travel to Taronga Zoo to officially open the new Taronga Institute of Science and Learning. The Duke and Duchess will meet two koalas and their joeys that are part of the Zoo’s breeding programme, and visit the laboratory to meet female conservation scientists who are working on efforts to reduce illegal wildlife trafficking.
  • The Duke and Duchess will travel by vessel across Sydney Harbour to the Sydney Opera House. Once inside, Their Royal Highnesses will view a rehearsal of Spirit 2018 by the Bangarra Dance Theatre, an internationally acclaimed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander modern dance company. Upon departure, walking along the Opera House forecourt, the Duke and Duchess will have an opportunity to meet members of the public.
  • The first day of the visit will conclude with a reception hosted by the Governor-General at Admiralty House, to be attended by Australians from a broad range of sectors including charity and community, business and industry, arts and culture, sport and entertainment.

    1. I wasn't able to watch the wedding, but when I saw the first photos later on and saw Eugenie in her gown/tiara my first thought was how much she looked like a young Queen Victioria. Given the Duchess of York's interest in Queen Victoria I wondered if there might be a connection. Loved the tiara for the simplicity and as a blood princess, not having the need to be covered up with a veil. Also loved the fact that she loves her body and is not afraid to show her scar on her back from surgery. She's been a quiet trailblazer, I suspect we'll see/hear more from this amazing young woman.

  4. I love everything about Princess Eugenie's look today. Its different and the addition of colour is quirky. I think she looks stunning. Bored by Duchess Meghan's look today and the coat looks too big for her. I like her hat though.

    2. I thought that Meghan is doing a great job at not drawing attention to herself when others should be shining. This royal occasion and also Prince Louis' christening show that she gets blending into the background when it's not about her. And if she and Harry have a secret, their keeping it until after the wedding also shows that they did not want to take the spotlight away from Eugenie. Kudos

  5. I loved absolutely everything about Eugenies dress especially the amazing fit of it. The Kokoshnik tiara was the perfect choice for her hair and it's the best I have ever seen her look. Must be love! :-)

Meghan seemed very relaxed and calm, and I can imagine the tour preparations are in full tilt right now so well done her for cruising so serenely through this special day :-)

    1. A lot of people are saying this (on Twitter) which makes no sense to me....

From what I have read, there is Zika virus in Tonga and Fiji, which is particularly dangerous to pregnant women and the advice is to not try for children until 6 weeks after visiting the region. Based on this, I do not think that H&M will try for a child until at least mid-December at the earliest, which puts an announcement at mid-March 2019 (after 12 weeks) at the earliest.

The royals plan things meticulously and take no chances. Plus,I do not think they would risk a pregnancy before the very first foreign trip - especially one so intense as this one (76 engagements). They do not know how Meghan’s body will respond to pregnancy and the trip alone will be quite much even for someone not expecting. That’s not to say she can’t handle it, I just think the RF would want her to get one trip under her belt first.

So I think it will be quite some time before we get a baby announcement.

    2. Agree. Thought she looked pregnant 😊

      Delete
    3. The guidelines actually say 6 months... so that make the earliest announcement in July next year 😱😱😱 ages away!
Who knows though, if she is maybe they were waiting until after eugenies wedding just prior to the tour to announce and say that Meghan therefore will not be travelling to Fiji or tonga on the tour. We'll just have to wait and see! 🙂

    4. We just saw her in a form-fitting skirt last week. I really do wish people didn't feel entitled to speculate about something as personal as fertility. I say this as someone who's been struggling with it for the last three years. It's unkind and it doesn't matter if she's a public figure. It's not our business.

      Delete
    5. I don't disagree with your general points Lynn. I too would be surprised if Meghan went on an event-packed 2+ week overseas tour during her first pregnancy even if Zika wasn't a possible issue. While women her age and older have trouble-free pregnancies all the time, at 37 she does fall in the medical category of "advanced maternal age." And it would be a first pregnancy.

The current CDC recommendation for women is to wait 2 months (8 weeks) before getting pregnant. But men have to wait longer because the virus clears from men more slowly. So if they follow the CDC recommendations they wouldn't start trying until into 2019.

      Delete
    6. form fitting skirt? It was a pencil skirt, but far from form fitting.

    7. I do speculate about a pregnancy not to be insensitive, but because it puts a smile on my face to see 2 people have a little one who truly are in love. I think we should remember this page is not about us, but our positive input on Meghan. I don't think anyone is trying to be insensitive

    9. I agree with Taryn! This speculation feels really gross and creepy to me. @lizzie when you write: ..'and it would be a first pregnancy' do you realize you really don't know that or anything about them, really? Nor is it any of your business.

      Delete
    10. Thank you Chrystal and Lizzie for correcting my timeline facts. I must confess, I didn’t research the time but just went from memory on something I read a while back (when the trip was first announced).

Your timeframes make my point even better! There is very little chance she is preggers. 🙂

    11. Eugenie looked fabulous - I actually cried tears when I saw her! I loved everything about her look and emerald tiara *sigh*. I was expecting the York tiara but I wonder if Beatrice has got dibs on that. Speaking of Beatrice - I was supper impressed with her reading. It was very engaging and I about fell out of bed when they said she has dyslexia. You go girls! The Yorks should be so proud of their girls.

      Kate looked fabulous as always.

Meghan looked great too although her blush looked a little heavy but she is so beautiful it doesn’t matter.

      Delete
    12. You are right @Anna--I don't know if Meghan has been pregnant before at some point in her life. But it seems it is more polite to assume if she does get pregnant it would be her first rather than to assume she's been pregnant before. And I'm hardly the first to comment on a possible upcoming pregnancy. I wasn't even the first to comment here!

      Delete
    13. I agree I’m kind of over the point pregnancy speculation especially when we are picking apart her body. And someone else raises an excellent point about assuming it’s her first pregnancy. We actually have no way of knowing that. She was married before and has been in relationships. Plus has been with Harry for a few years at this point. With how prevalent yet undisclosed miscarriage is you really don’t know anything about her reproductive health and history and it’s starting to feel a bit intrusive to have this constant speculation.

Theresa J, there is nothing wrong with you wishing the joy and happiness on a couple like a baby brings. I will keep hoping and speculating just like you and I see nothing wrong with it. Hoping is wishing and what better way to love someone from afar (who has no idea anyone on this blog is speculating) than to wish them all that they wish for. You keep hoping and speculating and I will too.

      Delete
    15. Lol here we go... I like how my "just a thought" observation was miscontrued to "insensitive, gross, body-shaming, unkind" and everything else under the sun. However, speculation about conception planning and when we can expect a pregnancy announcement isn't an intrusion on their privacy?

I fail to see how I criticised Meghan. Come on girls, we're here to support each other and Meghan so let's emit good vibes and leave the bullying out of it :)

Have a blessed day ladies :)

      Delete
    16. Yes we'll keep speculating

      Delete
    17. I didn’t mean to come across as a bully. As I said, I just wish that people would be more aware of how their speculating about pregnancy can be hurtful. If you don’t have the capacity to understand my comments, then you probably haven’t experienced the pain of infertility, or the pain of being mistaken as pregnant when you had a big lunch, or have gained a little weight. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

      Delete
    18. I think wishing someone that obviously wants children the joy of actually having them is fine but let's imagine a scenario where you are speculating about the pregnancy of a public figure that may have trouble having children. Not saying that that's what's happening with Meghan, I don't think so but imagine you're speculating about an imaginary woman that has trouble having children and then people say 'oh she must be pregnant right now' all the time. It would put a lot of pressure and only make things more painful for that woman, so I wouldn't ever talk about someone's perceived pregnancy ever. Wishing someone the happiness of having children and saying 'oh is she pregnant right now?' whenever a woman wears lose clothing, gains a little weight or forgoes an alcoholic drink is not the same thing. That's just my personal opinion.

  9. Sadly, with the dark colour and the plain cut Meghan totally disappeared into the background. That is a huge miss to me on the fashion front. Same happened to Sophie but at least her dress was more embellished to make her visible. Jewel tones seem to be the colours most women went with. Would have loved if both would have also gone with more autumn themed, rich colours. I mean you never can go really wrong with navy or black but for me they just missed the mark. I am interested how it will look in the official photos.

Bea‘s look is fantastic. I am not the biggest fan of the design on the fabric but the cut and her hair and make up are so vintage princessy. Almost pre-raphaelite. I wonder how her hair stylist ensured that her hair stayed perfectly in place but looked rather flowy and loose at the same time with all this wind and the weight of the tiara. Also forgot what a warm and calm voice she has- a bid deeper and frisky- very attractive in my opinion.

    2. I agree with you about Meghan and Sophie's outfits C. It's a fine balancing act for them between trying not to upstage the bride and still looking good, but I think they both went too muted today. I would love to have seen Meghan wearing a lovely autumnal shade like mustard yellow or burgundy, or even the olive green she wore to Louis's christening. Keeping everything crossed that the upcoming tour is a bit more colourful.

Loved just about everything about Eugenie's look today; the only slight exception being the 'bustle' on the back of the skirt, which looked a bit messy to my eye. Apart from that I thought she looked gorgeous.

It struck me how different her makeup appeared today as compared to her wedding day. Today her makeup seemed extremely heavy and shiny (lots and lots of highlighter) compared to her more understated wedding and pre marriage makeup.
I didn't really like the coat/ dress and think it was very blah, loved the shoes and hat though!

Her and Harry look very much in love and happy and it's lovely to see. Can't wait for the tour! :)

    1. I liked Meghan's hate and shoes and the colour of the coat dress but not the silhouette at all. You're right, Chrystal, I wondered what was different about Meghan and realize it was the heavy makeup. It does't suit her - makes her look too "done".
Eugenie's gown was beautiful - great autumn wedding dress, lovely train. I liked she let the tiara be the focal point and that the emerald green was echoed in her mother's dress and the flower girls' sashes.

    2. I remain so confused about the UK term coat dress, It has been my experience that a dress styled in the fashion of a coat (an outter garment) and worn alone with nothing except undergarments is a coat dress.
Meghan has a dress on under her coat. Therefore, it is simply what it is a coat over a dress. I find the transatlantic colloquialisms in regard to fashion to complicate what is really very simple.

  24. Seeing Meghan’s outfit today is helping me understand what’s meant by a “coatdress.” Meghan is wearing a coat over her dress, and it’s very nice, but it does not look it’s meant to be worn indoors. Whereas, a coatdress serves two purposes: as an outer layer and to look dresslike in an indoor setting.

The bride looked very beautiful. The emerald in her tiara really complimented her eyes and helped to make the whole event a tiny step away from being overly regal. Very nice ceremony.

My Best Dressed goes to the blonde lady in the front row of the groom side of the pews - her not quite pale pink dress with the bell sleeves was so pretty on her.

When watching Megan talk to the Princess Royal before the ceremony, you can see that she has perfected the BRF slow blink of the eyes with a curt, slow nod of the head. I didn’t notice her dress. It was so dark.

  26. I was disappointed in Meghan's look today but Prince Eugenie was drop dead gorgeous and I loved the wedding wishing them tons of happiness

  27. I think the point of her look was to be understated. Certainly no one outshines the bride in a beautiful white dress, but the young royals get such media attention on what they wear that possibly the point was not to be the other center of attention. Though we can’t see the dress up close, I thought she looked elegant from afar and had she wore 1) a bold color, it would been unlike her style, and 2) something new and standout-ish, much more focus (if that is even possible) would have been on her.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oops, forgot my comment on the bridal dress. I thought it was perfect with one exception, as a few others have said...the heaviness of the fabric, especially in the arms. Is it autumn and the weather might not have cooperated and been cold, so they dress her for the season? Like a winter wedding? Even Meghan’s dress, that I thought was stunning, seemed a bit heavy in some photos and that was May. By no means am I a designer, but a lighter-weight fabric might have been better. I did love the choice of tiara!

    1. The steps at Windsor church are notoriously windy. Eugenie would have seen what Sophie Wessex went through with her wedding dress and veil and probably wanted a heavier material so the dress and train would hold shape. A very good decision as we saw today.
Also, October in England can be rainy and cold, a bride wold want a dress that would at least provide some protection from the elements, particularly as they were planing an open carriage ride.

  29. Eugenie looked exactly how I picture a princess bride to look. I loved every single detail of her look: tiara, hair, dress, everything. Her hair and makeup especially is what Meghan should have done: loose tendrils but a defined updo. Eugenie did it perfectly.

Meghan’s look today is rather ho-hum. Boring. You can’t upstage the woman wearing white with a tiara unless you show up with a white dress and tiara too. Haha

  30. I actually thought Meghan's look was suitable, it was windy and looked cold outside and better dressed for the weather. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the full outfit because she had her coat on inside as well. I also think people still don't realize that Meghan prefers neutrals over colour so that's what we will see her in more often than not, that is her style.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Anon. blue is not a neutral, it is a colour.

      Delete
    2. Navy blue is a neutral when talking about colors. Everything is technically a color including beige. Her color palette tends to creams, black, navy, blush etc. when taken together one could obviously make the leap that she prefers neutrals. we’ve rarely seen her in bright primary colors (though she has worn those occasionally)

      Delete
  31. Yes, exactly; though I thought Sophie pulled this off with the cut and detail of her dress. Meghan appears to be drowning in that coat, which perhaps was a last minute addition? I’m sure it’s not so dull in person.

like a lot of jewelry!! like a ring on each finger, sorry but ive always found that tacky. and the jacket did not fit her at all, she just may be messing with us but I do hope she has no problems conceiving. and the hat, well I have nothing nice to say about that either. did like her shoes, lol.

  34. Just want to add a couple of random comments. I think Eugenie, Meghan, and Kate had dresses created that suited each woman to perfection. Eugenie has an hour-glass figure and the neckline, nipped in waist and wonderful skirt and train of her wedding dress today suited her wonderfullly. I thought both Kate and Meghan looked beautiful today. Kate repeating a designer and design in a brilliant colour was a feast for the eyes. Meghan also in the designer of her wedding dress was her usual understated and elegant self. I think the stack of rings on her right hand (British) elevated the entire look to suit the occasion. That and the burgundy of her purse were the pop of colour and glitz for a wedding. Loved her hat (British?) and its paler blue colour.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think the comments about Meghan appearing pregnant are because Kate wore a very similar coat and dress when she was expecting and attended the Commonwealth Day church service. I think just the similarity between the took looks is what's giving everyone pregnancy vibes. So excited for the upcoming tour!!

  36. Charlotte ! THANK You !!! I loved Eugenie’s dress. I think Sarah was bundle of nerves, she could not sit still and kept talking to Princess Bea. It was a beautiful ceremony. I loved the blue carpet down the aisle, the thistle in the flowers, and the blue dresses on Lady Louise and Princess Bea. I love the Tiara !! Duchess Meghan looks great in that shade of blue.

I think Sarah was very nervous and no wonder! Having to walk all the way down the main aisle and then sit right in front of the Queen, Duke of E and Prince Charles who (at least on camera) never once acknowledged her. The Duke of York seemed to avoid holding her arm and busied himself doing everything he could so he didn't have to stand alongside her. At least that's my impression. I think her girls are extremely loyal and Beatrix was obviously detailed to be beside her so she would have some family support. Remember Jack walked her down the aisle at Harry's wedding but then she had to sit by herself on the other side of the Quire. Common politeness should prevail in these circumstances. At Lara's wedding Princess Anne stood together with her ex-husband in acknowledgement that they were the bride's parents. That's the way to do it. Mark Phillips has also embarrassed the royal family in the past, but Anne chats with him at horse shows etc. Its time to let bygones be bygones.

    2. Here here... completely agree especially when they arrived and received enormous applause instead of focusing on the event. I personally love Meghan’s outfit - totally fit the cooler temperatures (IMO) but wished she wore a golden brooch which would have tied in the entire golden ensemble. I get the impression that each colour worn by the RF seems to have perfectly matched the hue’s of the cumberbands and sashes of the page boys and flower girls- maybe as a way including the RF family in their specialday 😊??

  39. Beautiful wedding. Eugenie looked gorgeous, and I love her tiara. The emerald stones are precious, pun intended. I don't think Meghan's fashions for royal ceremonial events are ever her best and this was no exception. First of all the makeup was overdone but in a way that actually made her seem dour. I love her cute little fascinators but the navy coat and dress overwhelm her frame. It's like the coat was wearing her, instead of her wearing the coat. I think Meghan might never really be comfortable dressing for these pomp and circumstance type events and will always wear something slightly off. Can't wait for the tour as she'll definitely be in her element -- meeting and greeting people, and wearing the simple minimalist styles that women around the world can replicate.

  41. I loved this wedding. It’s currently sharing my number 1 spot with Victoria and Daniel of Sweden. Eugenie’s dress and tiara were magnificent, the colours were glorious and everyone looked so happy.

I was disappointed with Meghan’s navy coat. She looks like she’s going to work, not a royal wedding.

I’m really getting worried that the 16 tour days will be black, navy, beige and grey, with maybe some green and light blue thrown in a few times.

  42. I am so disappointed with Meghan’s outfit. I am tired of navy and black from her. She would do well with some color. Also, when Meghan wrote on her blog, The Tig, “something needs to be off just a bit for perfection when dressing”, I disagree. I really feel she is wearing her hair messy as her something off. It just looks messy. Please, love you Meghan, but please do something with you hair! It’s too straggly! The wedding was lovely. It was nice to see the family out in full force once again. 43. Would someone explain to me the difference between Eugenie loose tendrils and Meghan’s. I don’t see a difference. Loose tendrils and messy bun looks the same. Maybe it is the person. Queen wears a coat dress at most ocassions. Meghan wears same at wedding deemed inappropriate. Maybe it’s the person. Meghan too much makeup, Kate just right although both had blush, lashes, smokie eye. One day Megs will be accepted for who she is and how she wants to present herself.

  44. It is my fervent hope that people will stop speculating about Meghan being pregnant. The same thing happened with Kate and it is not fair to either of them, or any woman. No woman wants others staring at her abdomen week after week, trying to spot a baby bump. Babies are special wonderful miracles and I understand that everyone is excited about children for Harry and Meghan. But it is insensitive to continue speculating. Part of the reason I am even writing this is because I'm personally struggling with some major fertility complications right now and have been trying to conceive for many, many months. I hope that Meghan doesn't have any complications, but she and Harry need to be given the space and privacy to plan for children in whatever timeframe is safe and healthy for them; without people constantly on "bump watch" every time they are in sight. I have had friends and family staring at my abdomen over these many months, searching for a bump, and then bombarding me with questions that I don't want to answer because it hurts too much. None of us can know how many people who read and comment on this blog may be struggling or have struggled with fertility challenges, and to constantly see the "bump watch buzz" on Twitter, in these comments, or in the press can be a devastating reminder of their own personal struggles. When and if Harry and Meghan begin their family, we will hear from them when they are ready to share. It is none of our business otherwise. Fertility and pregnancy are deeply personal and complex, and each woman and couple will have different experiences. All should be given the sensitivity, compassion, space, and privacy they deserve.

Thank you for your comment and for sharing, Sarah. I'm sure most readers are just looking forward to a Baby Sussex and mean no harm but I agree with you that remarks about potential pregnancy are sometimes too "nosy" and may be hurtful to women who have had problems. Sometimes the "bump watching" may sound like a sport ("horse races watching") which could be quite insensitive. I wish you a lot of hope.

    2. Sarah, any remark about a woman's potential pregnancy is not acceptable. i agree that it can be very intrusive at the least and extremely painful in some cases. I assume that we make these remarks on this site because we know Meghan won't read them. The comments made in the media are awful; it is frankly no one's business and no one should have to explain whether they are trying to become pregnant. I'm sure these types of comments were hurtful to, for example, Jennifer Aniston, to know that people were gossiping about her. People assume that one can have children just by wishing it, and it is not always true. In fact, it is often not true. I wish the best for you!! I had a friend who struggled for many years but eventually was successful, and medicine keeps advancing.

I am completely underwhelmed. The 17 rings on each finger has got to go. The coat 16 sizes too big also has to go. Totally disappointed in today's outfit.

    1. How is the coat "16 sizes too big?" There are two pictures of Meghan in this blue coat right above these comments. The coat fits her perfectly in the shoulders and arm holes, across the bust, and drops down in an almost fitted or A-line style.

I see so many comments about her clothes not fitting her properly. In my opinion, they are just malicious criticisms of her.

      Delete
    2. I agree. I see comments about the fit of her clothes (and Kate’s) constantly. They are wearing designer clothes from some of the most well respected design houses in the world. No way they’re going out there with no consideration to fit and assistance from the fashion houses. Not at their high image level. This is such a non issue. Meghan and Kate wear expensive clothing that is fitted appropriately. You may not like the look or style but that’s different than them somehow overlooking the fit of their clothing.

Lovel understated dress code for Meghan today, appropriately so. I am not a big fan of all rings, I fail to see the beauty in it. But that is just me. Hard to keep the hair in order today, I think Meghan needs someone to give her some professional advice here. A lovely wedding, and Eugenie looked amazing. 50. OMG Princess Eugenie was stunning!!! The tiara, hair, make up, dress..I love everything. Really a beautiful beaming bride.

On the other hand, this time Meghan was a total miss for me...outside the church the outfit just seemed a little boring and too big for her frame, but inside the church it was even worse; the dark color made her disappear and compared to the other ladies in attending she was so “bundled up”. I think that’s the great difference between a coat-dress and a simple coat like the one the Duchess was wearing.
Probably she just need to adjust to chilly Britain ;)
Anyway, she’ll have the chance to “redeem herself” during the tour...CAN’T WAIT.

  56. The Bride looked incredibly beautiful. Her dress was breathtaking and I loved the deep cut of the back, she wears her scar with pride and sent a very important message out there. It doesn't matter the scars it is what is in your heart and soul and how you carry yourself as a person that counts nothing else. The fine work on her ddress close up just lovely. Eugenie's makeup was so well done, with tiara and earrings her eyes were just sparkling. Even though her hair was casual, it was beautifully done and was not hanging it was a perfect finish. Her parents have done a wonderful job raising 2 lovely young ladies. Meghan's coatdress not a fan at all, and all the jewellery not elegant, way to much. Her hair too messy. Well groomed finish here would have been nice and as a few of you have mentioned her makeup was very heavy. But in saying that we all have days like this, she looks very happy and well and that is all that matters.

  57. After watching these royal weddings, I have a question I hope Charlotte or someone can answer. It looked to me that both Westminster Abbey and St. George's had a long aisle where there were many guests, but the altar looked like it's behind a partial wall or something. How do the guests along the aisle view the wedding? It looked like only the royal family and those in the front of the church could see the ceremony. Just wondering.

I was surprised the Eugenie went with just a tiara and no veil, but I loved that she went against tradition and wore what she wanted. It was also a terrific way to show off the tiara! I thought that Meghan might have chosen to forgo the veil as it was her second marriage, but veils, unlike tiaras, only have one use!

In medieval English churches the main alter and quire (choir) is often closed off this way , sometimes by a roodscreen with a cross on top. In those times only the clergy and choir, who were usually in holy orders, sat there. The laity would be in the nave or main body of the Church. After the Reformation newly built Anglican Churches did away with the practice.

  64. I do not generally comment because my opinion is usually so far off those being expressed. I have been coming to this blog for a while and love everything about it. I follow the twitter feed so I am always kept up to date. I love the detail that goes into it. I commend the author (I cannot call someone I do not know yet by their first name even though I have seen it numerous times here) for such diligent work.

Now to what I wanted to say. The Duchess of Sussex's cloths fit her perfectly as they were tailored to. How anyone thinks that her cloths are to big is ridiculous and seems like nothing more than a slam against not only her but those who have constructed her outfits. I am sure that those putting together her cloths know the proportions. Also, since a coat is an outer garment it is usually larger than the inner to give room. Who wears a form fitting coat? Her cloths are mostly body skimming not hugging to lend a more elegant and respectful look. She cannot bring to much California girl to things or people get upset.

It was a windy day and other women had hair issues. She does not load her hair down with product so it will blow more freely. No helmet head.

Depending on the event she chooses whether to wear other colors. When she goes bright she is trying to get attention, to dark and she does not understand the occasion, in between and she just has to learn because she apparently is not intelligent. Even with some fans she cannot win. I know it is opinion but this mostly comes off like dressing a paper doll. People seem to expect her to dress for their tastes, not hers.

I think she looked great and seemed to fit in perfectly, especially since she and Harry seem to have coordinated. The bride was radiant as was to be expected and the groom looked pretty good too. I do love reading the comments and will likely never say anything again, even behind a computer I tend to be shy about giving my opinion. But get me at work and things are totally different.

Thank you again for such a great forum and what seem to be a great bunch of people.

Eugenie's wedding was on my birthday, which is kind of fun. I honestly thought she looked the best I've ever seen her look at her wedding...especially the after-party Old Hollywood dress. I loved the back of her wedding dress and the sleeves, but didn't like the front bib or the material. Although, it was smart of her to wear a warm material, as it looked chilly! The tiara was a quirky addition and I thought it matched really well with her skin tone. Her makeup and hair were so gorgeous!

Meghan blended into the background nicely. I didn't love the coat at all, but this day wasn't about her standing out on the sartorial front, so I can understand the choice. Ready for the tour!!
