Harry and Meghan Mark the Centenary of the Armistice at Westminster Abbey Service

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a special service to mark the Centenary of the Armistice at Westminster Abbey this evening.

The service follows a host of Remembrance events members of the Royal family have attended throughout the week.

Armistice Day 2018 marks 100 years since the Armistice was signed, ending the First World War and so Remembrance 2018 is a particularly important and poignant year, with a number of extra commemorative events.

Last night Harry and Meghan joined the Queen and other members of the Royal family at Royal Albert Hall for the deeply moving Festival of Remembrance. This morning, they were at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday service.

A video of the arrivals.

Kensington Palace shared this beautiful image from the abbey before the royals arrived.

The service is the finale of a day of national events to commemorate Armistice Day.

The Queen and the President of Germany placed fresh flowers at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. The flowers are brightly coloured to symbolise celebration, and include heather, gerbera, lilies, roses and chrysanthemums.

The Grave of the Unknown Warrior (often known as 'The Tomb of the Unknown Warrior') holds an unidentified British soldier killed on a European battlefield during the First World War. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, London on 11 November 1920, simultaneously with a similar interment of a French unknown soldier at the Arc de Triomphe in France, making both graves the first to honour the unknown dead of the First World War. In May, Meghan's wedding bouquet was sent to the abbey and placed on the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. This is a tradition which was begun by HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, after her marriage to King George VI in memory of her brother Fergus who was killed in 1915 at the Battle of Loos during the First World War.

Nine young people placed flowers at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. The nine have been involved in commemorative events over the past four years, researching the lives of members of the Armed Forces who served during WW1.

Other royals in attendance included the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent

Actor Sophie Okonedo OBE read from the diary of socialist Beatrice Webb, 11th November 1918: "Peace! London to-day is a pandemonium of noise and revelry, soldiers and flappers being most in evidence..."

The Prime Minister read Isaiah 58: 6-12: "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that he break every yoke?"

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier read 1 St John 4: 7-11 in German. Below, the English translation from the Order of Service.

During his address, the Archbishop of Canterbury said: "The final verdict on evil is defeat...On this day we remember, in order to act...Enemies have reconciled and that is hope for the world."

The Prince of Wales read St John 15: 9-15: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

The royals joined in singing hymns.

It is Prince Harry's second visit to Westminster Abbey this week. On Thursday, he opened the Royal British Legion's 90th Field of Remembrance.

Each November the Royal British Legion establishes a Field of Remembrance in the grounds of the Abbey. The field is a sea of remembrance crosses with scarlet poppies - a symbol of remembrance and a tribute to the memory of ex-service men and women.

Row upon row, with their scarlet poppies, around 70,000 crosses carry personal messages to those who lost their lives in service of our country. It was undoubtedly a very moving visit for Harry who served in the army for ten years, undertaking two tours of Afghanistan.

The Duchess looked elegant in a navy belted skirt suit for the event. Generally during royal engagements, the Palace release details on designers the Duchess is wearing. Naturally, given the sombre nature of Remembrance events that is not the case during Remembrance weekend. As the look is quite possibly bespoke, if the designer does not claim credit for it, it's unlikely it will become known unless the look is worn again.

As several of you correctly noted, there are strong design similarities between the look and the Prada skirt suit Meghan wore for the Queen's Young Leaders Awards in June.

Meghan has added a pair of her favourite Aquazzura Deneuve bow pumps to her collection in navy.

A product shot of the pumps in black.

The Duchess wore a black beret style hat. It's very likely a Stephen Jones creation.

Heaven correctly noted it's almost identical to the Stephen Jones beret Meghan wore for the Commonwealth Day service.

Meghan's navy clutch is an unidentified one she's carried several times.

The week has been filled with deeply touching tributes to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I was very pleased to see the Royal family involved in so many elements of it, and to see Meghan attending several events in her first Remembrance week. We will never forget.

We'll see Harry and Meghan at Prince Charles' 70th celebrations on Wednesday night. I'm hoping a family portrait is released from the event.

  1. The peplum two piece suit is absolutely lovely on Meghan. I am assuming a two piece. It is very reminisce of maternity dressing in years gone by when women at a given point did not continue to wear their attire a size larger as they do now and invested in true maternity styles. They are such a handsome couple.

    1. USA Granny - You voiced my thoughts exactly. I think it's a lovely look, pregnant or not, but especially as Meghan is pregnant. I've never cared for the current trend of wearing tight knit fabric to the point of bursting at the seams. I like Meghan in a beret style hat, perhaps because it was always my favorite. :)

    2. It looks late fifties to me and I completely agree with all you said.

  3. I think this is a navy version of the Prada blush pink peplum. No asymmetrical skirt either. But I could be wrong.

  5. It’s a very nice suit and I like her in the beret(?) style hats. They look good on her, I think. She looks very pretty.

  6. She looks beautiful as per usual. Very nice suit. Not wild about the covered buttons. Also, not to be nitpicky, but I think if she wanted to go with the black hat, she should have done a black clutch and shoes.

  7. Seems her now herls ate quickly becoming her favorite now with having them in 3 colors. She looks lovely and chic. I do wish the covered buttons weren’t impeading on the belt.

Just some constructive criticism, Meghan spent a lot on clothing over the tour and had many bespoke pieces made including two more today. It might be hard with the pregnancy, but I do hope se starts to re-wear some of her clothing.

    2. Respectfully, lets be real. Meghan had several lovely but ill fitting fashions while on tour due to her pregnancy. No one should expect to see many if any repeats at all at this time. A first pregnancy I believe can take anyone by surprise in how quickly ones body takes on a life of its own (no pun intended). The continued criticism of repeats is unbelievable to me considering the wardrobes of other royals including HM if I may be so bold as to say). I love Kate and have followed her from day one. She wore yet another black coat today for about a heart beat and I think looked fabulous. It never dawned on me to say, I wish she wore one of her other six. Meghan has just repeated her black coat the other evening. It would be nice to let the "repeat" comments rest for awhile at least for the next five months.

I doubt she fits in very much of her pre pregnancy clothing now, maybe a few loose coats. I don't think we'll see many re wears until at least next summer or fall.

    4. Once again USA Granny you are a fount of wisdom. :)

    5. I was happy to see Kate repeat that gorgeous teal gown the other day but I think it's been 5 years. Most of Meghan's clothes cannot double as maternity clothes, and she's been collecting them officially for only 5.5 months, so she should feel comfortable in getting new at-home and in-the-public clothes for her pregnancy. Most of us can wear anything but she faces criticism just by existing. On the bright side, if she gets pregnant again, she can repeat these lovely basic outfits. The one today looks like it can adjust and expand. She can add jewelry and accessories to make it different in many ways. It looks like money well spent, considering what is usually spent. :)

And maybe if H&M leave the KP group, they can get nasty Twitter comments removed more quickly. Or go to what Charlotte does and post only nonabusive remarks.

    6. I think the ladies(Kate and Meghan specifically, not enough data to say for Sophie) go through fits and spurts of new verses rewears. Right now, Meghan is new to her role, is building a wardrobe, came off a three week tour(where she is some rewears) and is now pregnant. The cost right now will be heavier, but I am certain we will see some of these clothes for years to come, like we saw with pre-wedding engagements and her wearing clothes she had already had for years.

  8. Really like this look. Fabulous shoes, and the two piece peplum works very well for her right now as she's in that awkward stage where maternity clothes don't fit but regular clothes are too tight. Think the belt can be adjusted to make the suit looser or tighter.
Only thing ... the bright lights make the contouring makeup she favors too prominent/obvious. Think she needs some powder to brush over those lines, as right now she kind of looks like she's in the middle of an instagram/YT tutorial about how to use contouring makeup.

  9. Not a fan of this look: that belt and those buttons really don’t work well together.

    1. No it's not just you, Perry. Meghan seems to wear all her shoes a bit big or her heels are narrow so the shoes look big. (Supposedly wearing big shoes is a Hollywood thing.) I think the very pricey Aquazzuras would be much more attractive (on MANY women) if rather than being tan on the inside, the inside of the shoe matched the outside in color. Because of the way this style fits Meghan at the heel, the inside color shows in every picture---it almost looks like she is wearing tan blister pads on her heels. And in a few pictures the inside of the straps & shoe body seem to show. The effect may be a bit exaggerated on Meghan given her unusual fit but I would think this shoe style on many women would be prone to showing the inside of the heel cup when walking. Not a good look for $750 shoes!

  13. Really like the suit. She looks great in it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not one of her best looks. Agree about the buttons and belt, and will add the skirt looks way too big. Of course, I do not know, but based on the few photos, it seems her weight so far is in the middle, nothing in the hips, legs or top, so the skirt should have been narrowed to provide some balance. I do hope she loses these berets. She has perfect face-shape for so many other choices. For this type of service, I’m not of fan of the ‘open shoulder’ look.

IMHO, she wears her shoes with ‘breathing room’ because of her bunions. Perhaps her feet tend to swell, especially during pregnancy.

Overall, just a ‘meh’. Certainly, she has many more of these events ahead of her, so her style will evolve. It will be fun to watch. Thanks, Charlotte, for the excellent info and gorgeous photos. Jane in TX

  17. The Duchess of Sussex looks lovely. I enjoyed the picture of the Fab Four standing together. I hope the Royal Family stays united. Families are important to our society, to the world as a whole. Leaders, out front, should display family unity: love and respect, not as an image but genuine values. I hope that for them and all families. Charlotte, thanks for the history lessons you gave us this Remembrance weekend. I have enjoyed both postings.

    1. Yes! Thanks for the tip about the story. All of the “fans” of the duchesses and the press would do well to take note. There’s no need to pit them against each other. These ladies are family, and the princes have chosen women they love, regardless of what other people may think.)

It's a bit unfair to make comparisons with the other ladies in attendance. Planning goes into these outfits especially with the Queen being present. Everyone was dressed appropriately or they wouldn't have worn what they wore.

  22. I’m thinking this looks quite similar to the Carolina Herrera dress she wore to trooping the color- nearly identical covered buttons and “double-breasted” vibe. To me it seems more along those lines than the Prada. I do like the look but I’m liking the more autumnal, warm feeling of the Duchess of Cambridge’s outfit from today- this suit could just as easily be worn in the Spring...

  23. Her clothing is paid for privately and not by taxpayers. I’m confused. I’m not wealthy but it’s never occurred to me to criticize how wealthy people spend their own money.
I expect that after she is safely delivered of an heir to the throne, she will recycle her clothing. It’s who she’s been her entire life.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I am always advocating for more repeats but I agree with you that her pregnancy put that on the back burner for now.
But to be technical her clothes is being paid for by the Duchy of Cornwall, which is the official source of income of the heir to the throne and his family. Hence her clothes are not paid for privately.

      Delete
    2. Yes, the money comes from the Duchy of Cornwall, but the Duchy if cirnwall comes from the people who live in Cornwall. The crown holds 109 year leases on all of the property 8n each Duchy and also central London. Individual citizens or businesses my lease the property from the crown at the rate of 5he current real estate market, but when the 100 year lease is up the property reverts back to the crown and they are able to lease it again at current market rates. So really, since the beginning, all of the crown’s money comes from the people, however it is divided up by land trusts to different royal family members who are them able to spend it as they wish.

    3. By that reasoning, Martha Stewart's estate belongs to the public since it is our money that made it possible. The Windsors are a family and have the right to bequeath and inherit as any family does. Some possessions belong to the Crown and are specified as such. The royals also have personal homes and possessions. It does not all belong to the tax-payers, as much as republicans would assert.
The British royals are expected to maintain a certain image and standard of living. There are funds provided for this. The income from some property in the Duchy of Cornwall, one historic source of royal income, is earmarked for the heir and his immediate family. He pays taxes on this and must account for his expenditures. Think of it in terms of a corporate head--an expense account. Part of the job.

  24. I might be the only one here to think that Meghan seems lost in her fashion choices in the last couple of moths. Probably because of pregnancy. Majority of her outfits are too big, colours are off most of the times and there were just a few occasions where I thought she looked stunning. Here is just another example. You can hardly see her face.

I think its very early to say she's not repeating enough outfits. She's only been publicly in the royal circles for a year really...

I really wish they didn't hold hands on such a solemn occasion. You can say whatever you want but it is just inappropriate :(

    1. I don't think holding hands is inappropriate. They are there, they care. What more do you want?

    2. If it was inappropriate they wouldn't do it. The queen was there and they didn't hold hands inside the abbey at all. Just because we're not accustomed to seeing something doesn't mean it's not right.

    3. I can definitely understand your perspective on the hand holding. I think that rather than it being "PDA" per say, in this particular situation they held hands because it might be a bit challenging for Meghan to navigate the turf (e.g. the cobblestones) - especially in heels. They didn't hold hands inside the abbey just outside when she was on the cobblestones so I honestly don't think they were in anyway trying to be disrespectful or inappropriate. But I definitely understand why some would see it and believe it to be disrespectful (totally understandable)

      Delete
    4. I will step in here and say how disappointed I was by the hand-holding - and I'm intentionally using a strong word. I'm not fond of 'PDA' at the best of times - it's unprofessional and not royal when on duty representing your nation. (At private events, it's fine.) But here in a church setting - whether you are inside or not, it is actually disrespectful. It makes it about the couple and their relationship - not about the event and the people the event represents.

The other day Leo and I went to a film and yes, since it didn't disturb others a hand may have slipped onto his knee and visa versa. But a day later we attended a funeral. It was a moving event for us - and one that spoke to us as a couple, but I would never have dreamt of walking around holding his hand. Because it was about the soul lost - not about us.

I can't agree with 'if it was inappropriate they wouldn't do it'. No other couples are doing it - and no please! I don't need to see William and Kate do it - I'm fully comfortable that they are as much in love as Harry and Meghan - they just don't need to demonstrate it in a Hollywood way. Celebrities are about being 'loved up'. Royals are not. Without that distinction, we might as well not have a royal family. We're only seen the queen give one chaste kiss to Philip over all the years (in Canada when they were taking separate flights and were saying good-bye) but we have never doubted her passion for him. We see this sort of posturing all the time in Hello! A year later, the couple is divorced. It means nothing but show.

If it's a case of needing physical support Meghan needs to wear shoes that don't require it.

Since I'm ranting, I'll also speak out about bare arms at the Festival - and poppies being covered by hair - to all royal ladies this applies to. Meghan is a newcomer - it's not for her to invent new rules but to respect the institution she has married into.

Having had my rant - I'll speak favourably and happily of Meghan on the balcony. She looked most elegant and I liked her hat. She seemed genuinely moved by the ceremony and I was deeply moved myself to see the German president and his wife there.

      Delete
    5. I don't know how much of the hand-holding is merely affection or Harry's desire to ensure that he keeps Meghan safe with him. He's an emotional kind of guy and he must be remembering how his mom was harassed ultimately to her death and now he's totally in love with a woman who loves him and is pregnant and the haters crop up. Photos often show her blissfully smiling her Mona Lisa smile and he's looking alert and concerned. And he's probably wondering how the hell she can walk on those shoes!!!

And it's a generation thing. When I was a young teenager living in Brooklyn, you just did not take the subway into Manhattan (the "city") without wearing stockings! Things changed soon afterwards but you still had to wear dresses/skirts to school and that meant stockings (although fish-net helped some). I did not know it was acceptable to go stocking-less now but it makes sense. You don't over your arms when you go out.

      Delete
    6. True, I realise the world is changing. When I was young, a woman wouldn't go to church, or to a wedding, without wearing a hat. Now it's rare to see one in church, even at a funeral, and more uncommon to see them at weddings. We all wore tights to work - now I understand that's an exception, we would dress up to go to the theatre or the opera - now I've worn things to the Royal Opera house that would make Mum shudder. And there was a time when aristocratic women owned and wore a tiara...
But wait - the royal ladies still wear hats to church and to weddings - well, most of them do. They still wear tights and they wear tiaras. And in my opinion, that's why many people love have a royal family - not because they're new and splashy but because they represent something that's just a little archaic - after all, in a world where most of us believe all should be equal, what's more archaic than a royal family.
In a world that is changing almost as rapidly as I type this - the royal family stands for a slightly dated formality and following of the rules.
It is still - believe it or not - considered bad manners to engage in personal displays of affection in public in professional settings. And when royals attend events, they are doing so as professionals. We don't expect to see Prime Ministers and ambassadors clutching each other's hands in public. Where will it stop for Harry and Meghan and if it doesn't stop soon, it can never stop or the papers will be screaming divorce. I got censored on OSS by saying in a moment of impatience that I expected to see them snogging behind the coronation throne when Charles takes the throne. I was only half joking.

    7. Anything you do constantly becomes meaningless. I actually thought it was sweet to see Harry and Meghan walking together in a private moment holding hands - but if they do it nonstop, it doesn't say a b... thing about how er...loved up, they are. In fact, more people probably think she doesn't love him and is just putting on a public display trying to convince the world otherwise because that's the sort of thing rich men's ladies do. (Just saw it not long ago with a older man with a young foreign wife - it was cringe-making for the rest of us - although we had fun 'copying' them later.)
Royals who try to 'protect' their spouses usually make a muck of it. Think Charles constantly calling Camilla his 'darling wife'. All it makes many of us think of is poor Diana and that he is trying so overly obviously to show how madly in love he (possibly) is with Camilla. Harry may be an emotional sort of bloke but he's still a royal - the best thing he can do for Meghan is show she knows what's proper. Because the one who is going to be thought ill-bred will be her. And no, no one thinks a thirty-seven year old who talks about being a feminist needs that sort of support.
It is the single most annoying thing - the thing I've heard the most complaints about with Harry and Meghan - particularly when they're representing the royal family and their nation. Yet, should they tone it down - I don't believe their supporters would think the less of them. It's offending more than it's gaining.
The people it's delighting the most is the press who has masses of fun with it. Whether by having some etiquette person critique it - or by - worse - suggesting that William and Kate need to start doing it to refresh their marriage. Nonsense - I believe not only Kate but the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester - married almost fifty years - are just as much in love as Harry and Meghan. Their longevity tells that - not whether they clutch hands or not. As it does for a certain couple married thirty-two years. Because we see plenty of Hollywood types all over each other today - gone tomorrow. Let's make physical displays rare enough to mean something. My mother never held hands with my father in public - but I still cry remembering her hold his hand for hours on his deathbed. Because it spoke of nothing to prove - just love.

    8. Yikes! How sad to be so critical of Meghan and Harry over this. As another poster said Harry is emotional and very protective and holding her hand (which he initiates most of the time) may be a way he exhibits it. It's simply not our job to decide what is or isn't respectful and what is or isn't appropriate. Assumptions and imputing wrong motives is so unfair and degrading.

    9. Julia, I have to say I find your comments to be a slippery slope away from some of the Kensington instagram comments. When you inscribe poor intentions, bad faith, or sexual promiscuity/lack of morals to actions, it's IMO not productive to anybody.

For instance (and this is one example) when Kate was first DoC she had some wardrobe malfunctions. There were those who decided she was loose and exhibitionist and have never stopped with the nastiness and those who realized she was learning on the job. Let's extend the same courtesy to Meghan.

It would be a pity if on a blog like this you couldn't have a real discussion. And that means sometimes you can say something critical about certain behaviour and at the same time not being hateful or critical of Meghan. Everybody has the right to their own opinions and in no way was Julia or me offensive to Meghan.

Kate was on a private holiday where the unfortunate photos were taken and her privacy was massively invaded. Meghan is attending a state occasion with The Queen and president of a foreign nation, in a church, remembering fallen heroes. Doesn't really matter whether it is inside or outside the church.
Other events, more casual events, I don't care that much about holding hands or very public PDA, although sometimes it feels like they're trying to prove something. If it is a case of badly chosen shoes (which I don't think it is, we've seen her manage perfectly on different surfaces hundreds of time, pregnant and not) then she'll of course learn with time.

The royalty is an very old institution. Harry and Meghan are a breath of fresh air, funny and modern which is good. BUT certain tradition and protocols must be followed. I'm afraid Royalty won't survive if the public decides they are same as Hollywood celebrities.

I would like to make clear one more time, those are opinions on certain matters. I believe huge majority of readers on this blog are true royal fans, including myself. Don't compare real opinions with valid arguments to hateful comments on instagram or dailymail. This is not the case here.

@malwin I don't think that's a productive comment. It's ascribing massively inappropriate behaviors to two people who have not crossed that rubicon and are nowhere near crossing that rubicon. And the wardrobe malfunctions I was referring to were on Kate's tour to Canada, when a skirt flew up and we unfortunately saw a little too much of her. Looking back she was wearing a rather short, girlish, wispy yellow dress on a windy day, and probably had no idea how drafty much of Canada can be even during the summer. But as I said, there are people who to this day bring it up constantly and call her nasty names.

I guess you just cant see beyond your point. I didnt see any nasty comments/names on this website so i really Dont know what you’re getting at.

    13. I've been very critical of Kate's wardrobe issues in the past - not in Canada where she was just beginning but subsequently in Australia and especially India when it became less about paying respects to Gandhi and more about Kate's flyaway skirt. Experience should have brought caution and the seriousness of the event made the faux pas particularly unfortunate. I've never attributed the motives you said - however if such accidents repeatedly happen, people will start to wonder.

Likewise, although not happy since they were representing Britain, I didn't comment on Harry and Meghan's repeated PDA on public engagements on the tour - but doing it at a Remembrance ceremony in front of Westminster Abbey was going too far. For me, that was the Rubicon - we all have our Rubicons. This is intentional - not accidental - conduct. Again, I don't know the actual motives. Personally, I see it as very Hollywood conduct but others here have suggested its protective or due to someone's insecurity. But regardless of motives, it is getting more attention - in every paper now - over the event and I feel it's becoming a distraction and is inappropriate. It is simply bad manners and yes, not taking precautions where you know there are windy conditions is bad manners as well. The main purpose of manners is to make people around you comfortable and the centre of your attention and to keep the correct focus on events not on you.

    14. Julia,

It seems like this display of affection bothers you so much. Maybe you should consider contacting Harry and Meghan's press office. I'm sure they'd be glad to hear your feedback and you may see a change in the future.

  25. I commented earlier that I love the suit, but there is something off about the neckline, Mrs D in Dublin above thought it had to do with the weather and event. That was what I thought initially might have been bugging me about the neckline, but in looking at the photos I now think it is just the proportions of this neckline to the rest of the outfit that does not work, that more open neckline works well on her but with this suit or maybe her changing body it does not work as well. Someone also mentioned the big buttons and belt, and agree when I see clear views of the dress with the buttons and belt it does not work so well, Initially I did not even think there were buttons on the jacket so the belt was the true accent of the jacket. I still think it is a lovely suit but those are my styling quibbles with it.

  26. The picture of the Cambridges and Sussexes is a beautiful composition. Harry and Meghan are just slightly behind William and Catherine, who are at opposite ends, making Harry and Meghan look fully supported, creating a close-knit unit.

  27. Is there anybody who thinks that Meghan might be having twins? I‘m thinking that the bump is already so huge. Might be kind of fun :)

    1. How is she huge? She is tiny for 20 weeks!! She has a short waist and isn’t very tall so her bump is very concentrated. I think she looks lovely and slim for being halfway through.

    2. I don't think it's twins. Maybe it is but I think Meghan's just one of those women who will show very quickly. I'm a big ballet fan and there's a term I use called "ballerina pregnant." Meaning when ballerinas get pregnant boy can you see it quickly! They are by nature so small-boned and with such a short torso that when pregnancy starts to fill out their entire body (particularly the face, chest, and of course tummy area) it's all you can see. The short torso also makes bumps more obvious because pregnancy elongates the torso area.

I could be wrong but I definitely think Meghan has some "ballerina pregnant" syndrome.

    3. I normally don’t comment on a pregnant woman’s body, but since Meghan is very short waisted, that’s where her weight is always going to be more obvious. I agree with Ivy Lin.

  28. I adore Meghan and love seeing her and a Harry at these events. I have to agree the suit is ill-fitting and looked odd to me. Watching the video I think it’s due to hiding her pregnancy more. It’s so hard to dress at this stage when your body is changing but it’s not the nice round bump of later pregnancy yet! Being pregnant with my fourth I am in no position to critcize! I appreciate that people are giving their opinions but remaining respectful of her since she is a real person doing a very hard new job, preparing for the biggest change and most important job ever (motherhood) and doing it all beautifully.

I always wished Kate and a William would be more affectionate in public, but seeing Harry and Meghan hold hands walking into the Abbey I must agree with malwin that it just doesn’t seem appropriate. But that’s a small quibble when they’re doing such a fantastic job overall.

The Duchess of Cambridge will always be my first love when it comes to the BRF but I have been pleasantly surprised how much I’ve taken to Meghan. I imagine the two duchesses have a warm and supportive friendship and I hope and pray they can be a lovely support to each other in their unique roles rather than feeling competition! Both women are secure and accomplished and confident and I believe it shows!

  29. As always, she looks beautiful and elegant. Because of the weather in London and the fact that she is pregnant (with twins, I hope!) I worry a little about the openness of the neckline. An elegant cashmere wrap in the same color as her suit would make me happier! I mention this only because when I wear something open like that in winter, I feel the cold on my back, neck and shoulders. Don't want her to get sick, especially right now!

  30. Meghan is knocking it out of the park this weekend. All of her outfits are lovely. I adore her hat game!

  31. Forgive me, looking at the picture of the four in the Abbey you can clearly see the barret is navy. What else could it be since the rest of the outfit is all navy too?

  32. This are my burning questions? How does Megan and Kate walk in grass and cobblestones in those very narrow heels? Are those part of the Royal lessons? Heels didn't get this high in general until the late 90s early 2000s. The older royals had it made back in the day cause the heels weren't so high. How do they do it!?!?!?! lol

  33. I love this outfit on Meghan. The neckline tends to draw attention to the face, which is a good thing when pregnant. Also, wearing a belt above the waistline is flattering.
Harry and Meghan held hands approaching the church, I don't believe they did inside. Holding hands when going to and from events is their style. It's not the habit of the other royals, but it is theirs and that's fine.
I think it shows support and an "I have your back" attitude on Harry's part, and that is refreshing to see. After all, we all hope this marriage will succeed and be a happy one.

Refreshing is the right word, Anon21.31 , they will certainly influence the younger royals to look more natural, which is quite possible without loosing dignity !
H & M behave in their own way but still respect traditions and royalty, while giving a modern and lighter twist to the monarchy , yes very refreshing !

  36. Older women like me naturally wear more covered looks. The Queen wears gloves in July. I am always surprised by the neckline comments. It’s quite repressive and outdated, in my view. Cleavage in church is one thing. This is quite another.
