Meghan in Floral Blue Carolina Herrera Gown for Final Morocco Appearance

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex concluded their three-day visit to Morocco with King Mohammed VI.

Harry and Meghan arrived in the King's Mercedes.

The Duke and Duchess arriving at the royal residence.

They were greeted by fifteen-year-old Prince Moulay Hassan, Crown Prince of Morocco. The Crown Prince welcomed them in Casablanca on Saturday night.

They presented letters from Her Majesty to the King.

It's been a fascinating visit focused on highlighting young people, girls' education and meeting the Moroccan royal family. The Duke and Duchess have proven themselves more than adept ambassadors for Her Majesty abroad and the several overseas visits they've taken mark the beginning of what I believe will be increasing responsibility abroad on behalf of the monarchy. It's been very much a case of following in the footsteps of the Queen and the Prince of Wales in strengthening ties between Britain and Morocco. Her Majesty visited in 1980; Charles visited in 1995 and returned with Camilla in 2011.

BBC Royal Correspondent Johnny Dymond noted the areas of focus were planned with the Duchess' interests in mind: "A while ago a palace official told me that in 2019 we would start to see Meghan's influence and interests; they could not have been clearer in Morocco."

Harry greets the King of Morocco’s sisters, Princess Lalla Hasna and Princess Lalla Meryem.

More from the Mail Online:

'The King granted an audience to Harry and Meghan in his private home, a 1950s Arabic-style country mansion set in a lush garden of ferns and bamboo trees in the capital Rabat.
But it was more like a get together with friends with the 15-year-old Crown Prince Moulay Hassan greeting the couple outside the door after they arrived in the King's vintage Mercedes 600 SEL, loaned to the couple during their stay. The head of state was all smiles in the doorway and Harry and Meghan both complimented his home which featured an ornate internal courtyard behind the monarch, richly decorated with Arabic designs.
Harry described how he had an invitation from an unknown individual to stay on after their tour ended: 'He was very keen on getting us down there two days after this trip, unfortunately we have commitments to get back to.' The Duke of Sussex also said to the King that he would not be able to take up the 'fantastic invitation', but he added: 'Next time we will schedule it properly. We will keep it very quiet from everybody out there.'

Those seated from the left were: Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Meghan, the King, Harry, Prince Moulay Rachid, Princess Lalla Meryem and Princess Lalla Hasna. As expected, the King's wife Princess Lalla Salma was absent. It is very much believed the couple divorced last year, however requests for official confirmation have been met with silence. The Princess has not been seen officially since late 2017. International media believe the King has custody of their children but she sees them often. Emily Andrews tweeted it's understood she's on the Greek Island of Kea with her daughter Princess Lalla Khadija. British reporters' requests for information were left unanswered throughout the visit.

The Duchess continued her sartorial winning streak with a beautiful blue Carolina Herrera gown. Often times with royal tours, success in the fashion department comes from selecting the appropriate pieces for the occasion. All of Meghan's looks on the tour have hit the right note and provided some of her best maternity choices to date.

Meghan's gown is a custom version of Herrera's Floral Printed Silk Chiffon Short Sleeve Gown. It's described: "Carolina Herrera's silk chiffon gown is printed with flourishing fauna with a fitted waistline. Cut with a crew neck, this floor sweeping gown has flared short sleeves."

The gown is from the Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection.

The shade very much reminded me of Morocco's blue city Chefchaouen. The Blue City is one of the most visually striking places in the country. There are several theories as to why the walls were painted blue. One popular theory is that the blue keeps mosquitos away; another is that Jews introduced the blue when they took refuge from Hitler in the 1930s. Other claim locals simply decided to do it to attract tourism. The blue is said to symbolise the sky and heaven, and serve as a reminder to lead a spiritual life. If the trip had been longer I would have loved to see it on the itinerary.

It is thought Meghan's pumps are the Gianvito Rossi 105 in nude beige. The Duchess also wore them for the arrival in Casablanca.

Meghan carried her Dior Bee Chic gold clutch from last night's reception.

Meghan accessorised with her Galanterie de Cartier earrings.

Most notably, the Duchess wore them on her wedding day.

The Duke and Duchess enjoyed a varied day in Rabat which included a visit to the Royal Federation of Equestrian Sports and a fun-filled cookery demonstration...

...And an event with young entrepreneurs and local craftspeople at the beautiful Andalusian Gardens. It was packed with memorable moments, gorgeous photos and interesting quotes. Click here to read the post.

A recap of Meghan's tour wardrobe: on arrival at Casablanca airport, the Duchess deployed a touch of sartorial diplomacy in a red Valentino cape dress, Valentino Vring bag, Gianvito Rossi pumps and Natalie Marie studs. In the Atlas Mountains, Meghan sported an Alice + Olivia blazer, Misha Nonoo Sweater, Artizia scarf, Boh Runga earrings and Birdies slippers. For an investiture, Meghan changed into an Artizia blouse. For a reception at the British Ambassador's residence Meghan was head to toe in cream and gold Dior, accessorising with her Birks Snowstorm earrings. For a more casual look in Rabat today, it was Meghan's J Crew Field jacket, a breton Equipment sweater, Rag & Bone jeans, Stuart Weitzman Brooks suede boots and Ecksand earrings. In the afternoon Meghan changed into her Babaton Keith jacket, the Loyd/Ford black pleated dress, Manolo Carolyn pumps and Gas Bijoux statement earrings. And tonight it was Carolina Herrera.

Ambassador Reilly posted his thoughts:

In her piece for Tatler, Victoria Murphy described the couple as a "tour-de-force double act".

'With a pair this high-profile who generate this much interest around the world, it was always going to make an impact. Officials spoke of the rarity of hosting so many UK media (there were more than 50 who had travelled from the UK). Virtually everyone I encountered on the visit - from local journalists to young entrepreneurs - said this was a couple whose presence resonated with the Moroccan people.
One of the things that stood out to me most throughout these three days is how Meghan and Harry seem at their happiest when they are chatting with people in communities when no-one is standing on ceremony. Up in the Atlas Mountains in Asni Town on Sunday they dressed casually and quickly gravitated towards the young people in an unassuming way. Conscious that the language barrier might make things harder, Meghan had come prepared to ask questions in French. One teacher described them to me as ‘really cool’ and said that they were far less formal than she had anticipated and had put nervous students at ease.
What exactly the visit can achieve from a diplomatic perspective may take time to unfold. But what it absolutely did do was to cement the fact that Meghan and Harry are a tour-de-force double act, happiest when using their profiles to shine a spotlight on those who deserve and need it most.'

ITV'S Chris Ship said:

"The Foreign Office is using the Sussexes to strengthen ties with Morocco, the most stable country in a region of instability. Officials readily admit there are commercial opportunities in Morocco that the UK is not taking advantage of, they see it as a gateway to Africa. By sending Harry and Meghan Britain has dispatched its most powerful diplomatic weapon in the royal armoury."

As Royal Visit Morocco comes to a close, we have word of a special family engagement for Harry and Meghan on 5 March. The couple will join members of the Royal family including the Queen, Charles, Camilla, William, Kate and Anne for a late morning reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the 50th anniversary of the investiture of the Prince of Wales. The reception will culminate with a musical performance in the Ballroom by students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, of which the Prince of Wales is patron.

Before I sign off, a word of thanks to all of you who followed the trip on the blog. It's been such fun. The next time we see Harry and Meghan on an overseas tour, they'll likely have Baby Sussex with them.

    1. I agree. She is always beautiful. I like the color and print of the dress, but there seems to be an overwhelming amount of fabric. It's very unlike her usually minimal style.

    2. I also like the pattern and the beautiful blue. The cut is a bit too drapey but probably feels really nice on a pregnant body.

    3. Seeing the dress in original, with a defined waist, I would think Meghan's version would be an umpire style. The dress is pretty, but the details (sheer sleeves, flowing gown) are lost in the massive fabric. The dress is very pretty & I hope to see it again, either altered or in another pregnancy.

    4. I agree, the cut is sooooo boxy and long. I think that the original cut with the waist band, adjusted to be an empire waist that flowed over the bump (with different undergarments from last night's undergarments, please!) would have been nicer. It's a shame when pregnant women are completely swallowed by their clothes. It could also be an inch shorter. The fabric here is gorgeous though.

  4. She is really knocking it out of the ballpark this trip. The red arrival dress was stunning, this one is a beautiful colour and unobtrusive pattern making her blossom at an inelegant time of life! Everything has been appropriate, and a good mix of pieces. She has my admiration for finding her "feet" is such a short time!!

  5. I LOVE LOVE this dress! I love blue on blue and would love to have this as a dress, as wallpaper, as sofa upholstery, as pillows, as china, ... She looks beautiful, as always.

They made such a good impression on this trip and came across as very sincere and caring. Harry is so lucky to have such a wonderful ambassador as his companion through life. I can't imagine him with anyone else now.

And I think the feuding and other press has died down since her father posted that letter.

I am so going to miss them during the maternity leave, but as Rick said, "We'll always have Paris, or in this case Morocco and New York."

  6. In any other situation I probably would not have liked the cut of this dress, but taking into account that the other women present all wore loose fitting long dresses combined with being 8 months pregnant and the dress start looking very appropriate.

  11. I have to say, she's hit it out of the park on this tour - each and every dress, hairdo, accessory has been lovely and flattering. She also looks very much more put-together, with no hair or coat flaps flying away. Perfect!

    1. I am not so sure (not about her recognizing Morrocan culture, she definitely did that) that this is so far from her personal style. This dress reminded me of that blue&white Oscar de la Rente she wore to a wedding in the summer. Just a better version.
I think Meghan has a very varied taste in clothes. She likes her neutrals and minimalistic looks but she also likes the odd bold colour and ruffled look.

  14. What a trip! I have so much to comment on but I'll try and be restraint.
I want to say thank you to the people of Morroco for their stellar reception. Big thumbs up to the UK ambassador Riley for his engaging involvement and jovial personality. Another shout-out to Mike the EPA founder who received the MBE and all staff and volunteers of the various units they visited. shout-out to Omid Scobie cause I just love him 😘.
Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex 💕 for their wonderful and enchanting and relatable engagement with the people of Morroco and for the joy of watching these two lovers. weldone on engaging in all the causes you have supported and highlighted in this trip and for your service to the Queen and country. I do not get as much warmth watching box office romantic movies as I have watching your needle in haystack kind of love. Thank God for the good health of them and baby/babies (I'm team twins 😍) Sussex. God bless the Duke and Duchess of Sussex 💕.
Very successful trip and I thank God Almighty for blessing them with such.
My regards and respect to the young crown Prince of Morroco, such a weight of responsibility he appears to already carry at 15. He looks wiser beyond his years and so occupied with duty. I respect him and hope he becomes a wonderful King to support the gender equality and lead with wisdom and happiness. My regards to the King and all his household, God bless you with good rulership and happiness.
Shout out to Amy, I only got to see her for the first time in this trip today. Our wonderful Duchess assistant.
A big thank you and well done to our dear highly detailed and informative administration, Charlotte 😘.
After looking at all those food and the atlas mountains, I would have gone to a Morrocan restaurant if I knew one and I hope to visit the country some day.
After the highly successful trip of Australia, we saw haters attacking The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to try and undermine their success. I pray God Almighty that such will not/never happen again.

      Reilly not Riley.
Yeah Becca, I'm hoping/expecting they'll announce the twins like 1-2 weeks to due date. I noticed when she was talking to Chef Maho she said the whole family she didn't use the word baby.

    5. Paula, maybe in addition to Baby she was referring to Doria, who accompanied Meghan to her appearance at her cookbook launch.
Haha! EPA = Environmental Protection Agency.
Ambassador Reilly? Yes, he remarked earlier in discussing planning for the visit that it was "serendipity" that so many of Meghan's interests correlated with Their Mejesties' goals. I am fairly certain that the plural form of Majesty was used. Interesting.
I got the impression from his remarks initially that it was a matter of Harry being the man who accompanied Meghan to Morocco. ;). He was careful to use the word "both" in his later praise.

      Delete
    6. Yes Paula I caught that too & I was confused.... but now that you point it out... If you had 2 kiddos, that's what you would say. I can't wait to find out & to see Baby Sussex(s). Whether 1 or 2, it will be such a celebration!! :)

    2. Cynthia,
Lalla Salma was at W&K’s wedding. She wore a beautiful pink & gold outfit. It is sad that she’s seemingly disappeared.

    3. She was always very lovely, and her clothes and jewels were amazing.

      Delete
    4. That is how this soft diplomacy thing works. For either Harry or Meghan to ask about Lalla Salma would have been a diplomatic cluster@&$ of epic proportions. But them being there did give the media the opportunity to ask questions - and get some answers even if not an official statement.

      Delete
    5. They got divorced because of that Lalla Salma is not there.

      Delete
    6. The Queen and King of Spain, were there last week, in Spain we all know that they are divorced. In Morocco they can have 4 wives....so...

      Delete
    7. I would imagine that the first order of diplomatic business in preparation for this trip to Morocco was to not ask or inquire about the glaring absence of Lalla Salma from royal events. I've read conflicting reports that they aren't divorced, but that she has been banished from the royal palace and lives between Greece and NYC with her young daughter. Perhaps when her son ascends to the throne, she may reappear at court events.

  19. It doesn't get much better than this! She even matches the color and design on the walls, for goodness sake. Reminds me of the Taj Mahal photos. She had to either match or blend in--the background is so dominant anything else would clash. Gorgeous, yet modest- a diplomatic nod. The cut? Surely those complaining of the cut weren't the same ones who criticised her too tight outfits.

Really! A total win for the occasion, the location, and the circumstances. Someone was doing a bit of reconnaissance work.

  20. I have adored every look from this trip so far....till now. Love the color, like the print, don’t like the cut. I’d like it better without the seam, just straight flowing would be prettier. The line and disruption of the pattern kills it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh my, Meghan has done it again! How are we to choose a favorite look on this trip? She has, to use a very American expression, 'knocked it out of the ball park' again. A caftan-style dress is perfect and elegant. Not only does it look very comfortable for a pregnant woman, but Meghan is being very respectful, in dress and hairstyle, of the culture of Morocco. My only concern, after watching the Royal Family Channel video is the dress seems to be a bit long - sweeping the floor. It's a challenge, to be sure, walking in a dress that's really too long and the fear of tripping is a concern.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The color is very pretty and I think she looks lovely in this shade of blue. However, that’s a. Whole. Lotta. Dress. I know it’s probably to respect the host country, so it’s not very tight, but that’s borderline tent/muumuu. Probably because there’s nothing fitted at all, no empire waist seaming to define the bust whatsoever, so it looks like she’s swimming in it. I’ve seen lots of other pics elsewhere, so I’m not basing it on one picture. That being said, I’m sure she’s very comfortable!

    1. Hi Anon23. I agree with you. Whole. Lotta. Dress. And no break in the fabric pattern. Borderline tent. And yes, swimming in it. But all of her other choices have been fabulous.

      Delete
    2. Yep. This cut is exactly what doings to mind with the ‘maternity tent dress’. The color is divine and the pattern lovely, but it could have been cut better to still have beautiful flow but also silhouette and shape.

      Delete
    3. I agree that it's a whole.lotta.dress. If you look at the model however it seems as this was a sundress with a bunched waist. It appears Meghan had it altered to have the waist removed for obvious reasons. A better choice might have been to have the waist higher up. However I love the print and I love this shade of blue on Meghan and she looks happy and comfortable.

It also appears as if other women at the event were dressed in similarly loose gowns and they aren't pregnant so maybe it's an unofficial Moroccan dress code?

      Delete
    4. Ivy-I think the time has passed for empire styles. That would sharply delineate the line above the abdomen and emphacise the lower area.

The gowns have a similar silhouette. I think the Princesses had sleeves that covered their arms, however. As I said above, it was an excellent choice. I think considerable thought was put into choosing her attire for this important meeting. And it shows.

I love that she's dressing with more color even though she looks gorgeous in neutrals, too. One of my favorite looks so far. You go girl!

  27. Hmm these is these three day tour was the best Moroccan tour the has the best maternity dress Simply but elegant

  28. Lovely colour- I believe it is another nod to one of the colours of Morocco. It seems to me that the shape of the dress is a concession to maternity, and the high ruffle keeps the dress from being a huge tent. Meghan looks lovely, and I'm glad she is wearing something that seems completely comfortable at this stage of the trip and the pregnancy.
I believe the Moroccan national dress seen a lot is cinched at the waist, and the skirt on it very long- it seems to puddle- I've seen the Moroccan ladies lifting the skirt up when walking. Since Meghan cannot possibly wear a cinched waist in her condition, she she's chosen a silhouette to accommodate late pregnancy. It seems to me that with this last gown, she has chosen three different silhouettes for the three formal occasions on this trip. She is wearing this dress very long, and it's not necessarily because it's a oversight in fit. I think it really works well. In terms of colour and style, it is completely appropriate.
I was watching a video of the arrival, and thought it was interesting that the king chose to greet Meghan first, and that while walking, he was chatting to Meghan, and Harry seemed to be having a great conversation with the crown prince. I conclude that the king is quite impressed with the Duchess.

    1. very interesting comment regarding the length. I think her clothes are often just a pinch too long, but maybe in this instance it makes sense!

      Delete
    2. I don’t dispute your comment that the king was impressed with Meghan, Anon.
But I need to point out that when walking - like leaving a room, going to dinner etc - the highest ranking man would traditionally escort the highest ranking female (that is not his wife). Refer to any state banquet, formal meeting.
Now those rules won’t be applied strictly at an informal meeting like this, but habit would dictate that the king accompanied Meghan, if his wife was present she would have accompanied Harry.

  38. Charlotte, you are, as always, amazing - we are so lucky to have found you.

I love this look - I've pretty much loved all of her looks on this tour. She knows how to dress her body and to bring enough attention but not too much that it's distracting. I love the connection between Harry, Meghan and all of the people they meet. It seems so genuine and loving and I think they are building strong bonds not only for the country but for themselves as individuals.

I'm not looking forward to Meghan going on maternity. I'm curious to see how long she goes on maternity for - it is different for every woman and the expectations can vary greatly - Meghan doesn't seem to me to be someone who will want to wait very long to get back to work. I know plenty of women who work up until their due date or return to work as soon as they are cleared by a doctor. It's a personal choice, I just hope we don't have to go too long without Meghan.

  39. How odd that Carolina Hererra describe their dress as having a “fauna” (animal) print when it seems so clearly floral. Maybe there is something I’m not seeing, though.
Regardless, I think it’s a beautiful dress and appropriate in every way. There is something so luxurious about yards and yards of chiffon. Meghan looked lovely.

  40. THis blue dress is a total hit... VERY Morocco! She could not have done better. I’m not always a big fan of the Duchess’s clothing choices and often think she would benefit from better sartorial advice, but in this case, she seems to have received both good advice and made some good choices of her own. Every ensemble has been appropriate for the occasion, suitable for her very advanced pregnancy and complimentary to her host country. Kudos to the Duchess and her staff!

  42. Thank you Charlotte, for your wonderful (as always) coverage of this tour. Such research & details, the likes of which we could find from no other source! As always, you elevate royal watching to an international educational experience! This was a lovely tour & they have clearly won more hearts, including ours anew! :) xx

  43. I too loved this dress when I first got a glimpse. The color is stunning - Charlotte, have you been to Morocco? Given you mentioned the city with all the blue? - and the flowing nature of the fabric and styling is lovely. All in all, it's simply perfection from beginning to end.

When I think back to Kate's style choices a year ago when she visited Sweden/Norway and what Meghan has selected for this year they are both winners. Someone else commented how well Meghan has stepped into this role and I wholeheartedly agree. All her looks were winners and the both Meghan and Harry appear to be enjoying their roles and are so genuine.

  44. I might be in the minority but.... not a fan. I wish this dress had a belt above to make an empire waist. With the Dior, it was meant to be flowing like a caftan and was good for that moment. Like that was the perfect place to wear it. But this is a muumuu, I appreciate the color and the pattern being a nod to wear she is at but I was expecting a lei and a hula to come next!!! And I know she literally cannot win (it’s too tight too this too that) and I definitely am glad this was custom made to fit a pregnant body instead of trying to make a pregnant body fit into a couture dress.
Overall tho, I am impressed by her tour! It’s not easy to dress at this stage. Believe me I looked like a hot mess!

  46. What an incredible honor for Harry and Meghan to receive the opportunity to meet with the King and his family during what is most certainly not a state visit. I think it speaks volumes of their international appeal and fame. I read some Moroccans were saying how the Crown Prince rarely smiles but he seemed quite at each with H&M.

Charlotte, I agree with you--Meghan absolutely hit it out of the park sartorially. She looked so regal, elegant, stylish. That Carolina Herrera was to die for and was perfect in the beautiful Moroccan palace setting.

  48. This color on her is stunning. Just wish she would embrace some empire gowns. Especially while expecting. This drop waist means a lot of fabric.

Would love to see her in something like this

  49. I truly hope all those people loudly criticising Meghan last week for how she spends her own private time are here commenting on how beautifully she conducts herself at the ‘job’ time. She is generous and kind spirited. So intelligent and engaging. It’s sad there are always more comments when people are criticising her.

    1. I feel she has been so successful at the job, that's some people are ready for "anything to go wrong" so they can criticize. You cannot dim her light, this woman really glows and I am not talking just the pregnancy. She has done great staff so far - suggested Cookbook which brought money for victims, the book won an award , Australian tour, wonderful charities and it's not a year since the wedding. I greatly anticipate more things from Harry and Meghan :)

  53. Charlotte, thank you for coverage of this mini tour. What beautiful glimpses of Morocco! The scheduled stops were very much in line with Meghan's charitable interests. It thrills me that H&M are such wonderful ambassadors. And her clothing... oh! It will be tough to choose a best look from this trip. Now the countdown until the arrival of Baby Sussex.

  57. I like all her fashion choices for this tour especially the red one. Hair and make-up were perfect. Harry was handsome and also like his suits.
Now with the glowing commentary from Victoria Murphy and Chris Ship, I hope when they get back to London there will be no terrible news, criticisms, revelations to minimize or lessen the success of this tour and H/M’s influence/impact similar to what happened after the Australia, NZ Fiji tour.

  58. I like the print/color/fabric of this dress, but I do not like the style. I think it might be too much fullness on the sleeves paired with the dropped waist. I don't think it flatters Meghan at all. However, she is just radiant and Harry is so handsome!

    Hope from USA

  59. What is left to say? This couple is perfection. Their love for one another & how attuned they are to each other is so splendid. The royal family could not have a better representative couple for the monarchy. What a perfect match. I've loved every single fashion choice she has made, but then again, I'm a Meghan fan. Her charitable interests intersect so beautifully with Harry's & who he is. This is one powerful royal couple. I'm watching as they set the bar high for other royal family members. Gone are the days of the staid, fashion-less, style-less women of the royal family. Meghan rocks, and so too does Harry. These people are fine. Very very fine. Love them. Thanks for the excellent coverage of this trip.

    2. Why take down other women of royal family when praising one.they have their own style which is refined & traditional which may not be to everyone's taste. Plus they are not celebs but royals who are promoting some cause going beyond and above fashion.

      Delete
    3. My personal opinion is that royals are celebs even if they think they are not, gone are the days they politically ruled. Everybody comes to these blogs to discuss fashion 85% of the time.

    4. Nora, I can see that H&M really resonates with you, but I always get uncomfortable when anybody is described as perfect.
Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes, we all have characteristics that make us human not perfect. Look at the Queen for example, she is great, maybe the best Queen ever, but it is common knowledge that she avoids confrontation within her family which means she would sometimes let things slide, that a boss would have addressed.
Being perfect is an impossible bar to set and I am afraid if that is our expectation of H&M they are doomed to disappoint.

Rachel ZA , I do approve , no use to speak of perfection , nobody is perfect (as said in very famous BIlly Wilder film ...) and knowing that makes us appreciate much more the people ! H & M are seen so because, IMO , they are so different from the senior royals , especially in their down to earth attitude and complete involvement in the moment ... regarding the Queen, I can’t figure her ruling the family as a boss would rule her employees hahaha , I am quite sure that avoiding direct confrontation does not mean she does not rule in her own way, through secretaries or advisors , or any person she trusts . As far as I know, Charles seems more directly bossy ....

  60. Your coverage was amazing as always. Thank you! The tour was brilliant! The engagements, the focus on girls'education plus marvelous clothing choices. A home run. What has made me smile most broadly though is the roll out before the tour. The friends speaking out on matters she is unable to speak to. Beyoncé's brilliant intervention. The Duchess managing her own PR in NYC - no matter where you fall on this I would argue it was brilliantly handled in the style of "I am positive and happy and I am living my best life". Followed by this amazing tour with really positive press coverage from some of the RRs. The ones who in my view were smart (and decent enough)to get on the right side of this. Decent coverage from some others and blessed silence from some quarters. :-) To quote Lainey Gossip: "That’s the advantage of media training. It’s almost like the British tabloids forgot that she had that in her toolbox."

    1. If all of these recent things happened bc Meghan wanted to make a point, that's fine, but do you really think any of the things you listed (Beyonce, baby shower pr in NYC, People article) actually changed the minds of anyone/was seen positively by anyone who didnt already think positively of her? Honest question. And I'm not saying she has to try to do that esp in terms of adapting to avoid unfair criticism. But to measure good pr isn't that really what good pr is? I think any media training she has was used well to make a point, but maybe opposite in terms actually improving relations with the public (specifically those whose views of her are less than loving already) if that was actually the goal. Everything in this latest "pr offensive" seems to be very much highlighting the very things even the more reasonable criticism of her has taken issue with before.

    2. Meghan is a biracial duchess, there are some people who are less than loving who are coming mostly from the point of point of view that a woman of color cannot be a royal and "have been trying to put her in place". I am a woman of color and I can see what's going on as many can bear witnesx to this- that's why Beyonce came in after the People friends. Research what "Melanated Mona" means, Beyonce was referring to the treatment of a woman of color, she was speaking in a hidden meaning but she was clear, that is why the British did not address it except for Omid because the knew exactly that they had been caught and chastised. It was important that someone of high profile say something because the sheer volume of negative and abusive articles were becoming too much and many people are beginning to speak out. The people article has shown that Meghan is not ignoring her father as was being said by most media. Yes, the media may still insist that she did but there is proof that Meghan has communicated and I can see that the point of view has been challenged and there has been a shift in the bullying, now they will be hold accountable. So yes for a biracial woman the People article, and Beyonce were necessary. I didn't see anything wrong with NYC it's the same thing with posing for glamorous photos at Lindo Wing after birth of royal children like Omid said in one of ITV podcasts. Let the Americans have the baby shower a "right of passage" for Americans Meghan is an American and let the British have Lindo Wing. And yes let Meghan live her life and she is, as she should.

    1. I loved Victoria's article as well. And, of course, Omid's. Apparently the tour was a success especially with the people of Morrocco -whic I believe was the couple's goal!
I also love that Meghan (according to Omid) has some engagements left before leaving for a maternity leave. It will be well deserved indeed.
In other news, I am so dissappointed by Daniel Martin! He has been really oversharing recently. I did not mind the picture of tea at the KP but since then, he continues telling/showing media stuff about Meghan and it is becoming really uncomfortable. As if we all needed to know he was too busy to find time to try on a makeup look for his best friend/for the most watched wedding of the year (decade/or so). It feels like he is just using Meghan to promote himself...

She's looked amazing all weekend (though I'm not a huge fan of the drop waist in the custom version of this dress). But I really really think she needs to spend less on clothes. I'm not complaining about not repeating - she needs to build a wardrobe as a royal after all - just the cost, and lack of British designers, of the new clothes she's choosing to debut. If wearing such expensive clothes, at least wear more British! But she really did look great and I was very impressed by her French.

  65. Wonderful tour, wonderful diplomacy and the reports are absolutely glowing about the Duke and Duchess' ability as a "tour de force". That's really great feedback- and indeed it seems to be their forte...
Sartorially speaking, there was little I liked here- save the cream coloured eveing gown which hit the mark.... I've never been pregnant, much less having to dress for occassions such as the Duchess attends, so I applaud her being able to show up in anything that most applaud! ...But it isn't about the clothes, inasmuch as the good work they are able to shed their light on to improve their standing. However, full circle, their diplomatic success is very much a dog and pony act- and as such the sartorial component and keeping that whole game going is a major element to the whole deal. Most were happy- and it sounds as if it were a great success! Must say the young Crown Prince is certainly impressive. I'm sorry he's clearly gone through a very upsetting time with his parents, and hes' got to hold it all together - and mature into his role, too... Not an easy situation at all.

    1. This is one reason why people so often wish that Meghan would wear more British designers. While this would not get the benefit to her charities - that is only part of her job - it will give the benefit to the British economy, promoting the British economy is another big part of her job.

  69. Thank you Charlotte for another excellent post!! You really are the "go-to" for all royal knowledge.

I will admit that when Meghan first came on the scene and even up to and after the wedding my interest in her was mostly on her style and fashion and those swoon worthy purses! But thanks to Charlotte's excellent reporting my interest in her has shifted more toward the work she does, her interest in womens/girls rights, education and community. Like Queen Maxima's work on financial equality, it's refreshing to see a royal woman who striving to effect real change, change that will impact women and their communities for generations to come. It does sadden me a bit to know that this change will be hard won as so many are quite happy to keep things the way they are, to keep the poor poor, the uneducated illiterate and to keep women barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen. But with women such as Meghan and Maxima leading the charge, it also gives me hope that one day society will change, that those "in charge" will see the benefits in equality for all.

    2. Hi Anon23, thanks for asking for clarification. I am speaking of the area of women's issues and how these issues affect not only women but their families, their communities and the world at large. 49.55% of the world's population are women but yet world wide issues affecting them are barely worthy of note let alone support or change.

On the 8th Meghan is joining a panel discussion convened by the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust to mark International Women’s Day. Earlier today, Buckingham Palace confirmed we'll see her at the Commonwealth Day service on the 11th. I know Omid Scobie said she's eager to work as long as possible. I imagine she'll take her maternity leave before the month is out.
