A Darling Shot of Archie in Harry's Arms For Father's Day

To mark Father's Day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a darling photo of their son in his father's arms, clutching onto Harry's fingers. The image offers our first look at little Archie, who is six-weeks-old tomorrow, since his parents first introduced him at Windsor.

The couple captioned the photo on Sussex Royal:

'Happy Father’s Day! And wishing a very special first Father’s Day to The Duke of Sussex.'

Archie has grown so much since we saw him at Windsor on 8 May, two after his birth.

Speaking about the newborn, Meghan said: "He's just been a dream. It's been a special couple of days. He has the sweetest temperament. He’s really calm." Harry smiled and said "I don't know where he gets that from". When asked who the baby resembles, the Duchess said: "We’re still trying to figure that out." Harry added: "Everyone says babies change so much over two weeks. We’re basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month, really. His looks are changing every single day, so who knows?". Who do you think Archie resembles most at the moment? In this photo, I see more of dad Harry but his eyes are all mum.

To mark Mother's Day in the US, the couple shared a glimpse of Archie in Meghan's arms, with a quote from Lands by Nayyirah Waheed. "my mother was my first country; the first place I ever lived."

Our next sighting of Archie will come at his christening next month. The Times reports:

'Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, will have their son, born on May 6, baptised in Windsor next month. The Sussexes have chosen St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle for the christening. The couple married there last year and Harry, aged three months, was baptised at the chapel in 1984.
Archie Harrison Mountbatten- Windsor, the Queen’s eighth great-grandchild, will be two months old when his brow is doused from thelily font with water from the River Jordan. A royal turnout is expected at the ceremony, as is Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, although one key guest will not be there. The Queen will miss the christening because of prior commitments.'

In other Archie news, Harry and Meghan have reportedly hired a nanny. More from Omid Scobie:

'While the couple are hoping to keep personal details of the new staff member private, BAZAAR understands that the British-born female nanny is not permanently based at Frogmore Cottage or working weekends.
The additional support will come in particularly handy for the Sussexes when they tour Africa this October. Sources say it’s increasingly likely that Archie Mountbatten-Windsor will be joining them for the trip.'

A very Happy Father's Day to all celebrating :)

Baby Archie looks tiny and somewhat terrified, but kinda cute. He has his Dad's deep set eyes. I wonder if he has red hair? It would be nice to see a full face photo :-) Happy Father's Day to Harry, how exciting!

    1. I noticed that somewhat wary gaze, too. I think it's in the line of the brow and reminds me very much of Prince Charles who often looks a little uncertain and apprehensive in childhood (and even in adult) photos. However, the gaze also feels loving.

I've noted similar expressions in other infants and toddlers and I wonder whether it isn't slightly terrifying during the process of trying to understand what's happening. After all, in a "shot" like this one a dark object pointed at him but a person he equates with safety and love holds him while (likely) another who adores him is behind the strange apparatus. The limbic brain will be signalling: Am I really safe? Is this a threat? There's no way little Archie can know.

I look forward to more revealing photos from the christening.

Yes, Archie probably wondered why Mummy was behind the black box. Or the iPhone :-)
If I were the son of a Prince, I would be apprehensive too. haha wink wink. Who knows what's to come!
I look forward to the Christening too, very exciting!

This picture is absolutely beautiful!!! ❤️ Those tiny fingers holding on to Harry's big ones... so precious and symbolic!

  4. This is a beautiful photo of the little one. Harry must be having so much fun being a dad.
As for the other articles, they just sound like reporters putting a lot of known facts together with common sense and selling it as a scoop.

  5. Oh Charlotte Archie is an absolute dear and he looks so much like his parents (lol) who basically looked very much the same when they were his age. I can't wait for christening pics!

  6. There's so much to see here! He does look terrified but he could be giggling behind Harry's hand. He has such deep-set eyes; wonder if that is accentuated by the lighting? His eyes are beautiful, as is his nose. Looks like he has strong little hands. We are getting to see bits of him -- his feet and now some of his face and his hands. :) I can see both parents in him. Hope he develops fuzzy ginger hair. :) His little outfit looks sweet, and hiding behind Harry's hand (with the wedding ring) looks like he has a fierce protector. Looking forward to the christening!

  7. Happy Fathers Day to all fathers. Baby Archie is simply beyond baby adorable. There is something deeper than a baby about him / he does look like his parents especially Harry. The photography and setting is fantastic. I want to know Archie more; he looks amazingly unique.

  8. Charles and William also shared lovely photos but this one depicts the essence of Fatherhood in an especially beautiful way. That child has big hands and feet. He’s so tiny and bemused in his father’s arms.
Much will be made of HM not attending, I expect.

    1. She didn't attend Prince Louis's christening either, again because of prior commitments. No one made a fuss over that, but because the mother is Meghan, the resentful, envious haters will probably try to make something of the Queen's absence; I'm sure you are correct.

    2. My feeling is that photo of the Queen and PP looking lovingly at Archie with Harry, Meghan, and Doria surrounding the baby is all that is needed. There will be plenty of friends and family and anyone with sense (which leaves out half the reading audience) will know it's not a slight.

    3. GreybirdK, your comment about this photo depicting the essence of fatherhood is just what I felt about it when I saw it. It is a wonderfully symbolic photo, with Harry's strong arms and hands surrounding and guarding Archie from the inquisitive outer world, and yet allowing Archie a safe viewpoint.

    4. My guess is that they couldn't find a date where Charles and Elizabeth were both free along with Harry and William. The selection of godparents should be interesting.

  9. Wow!!!! This baby has such a deep and enigmatic look. I find it charismatic. It’s really cute, beautiful result of multiple inherited genes. But having seen the pictures of Prince Harry as a child, I can already say that it is the quasi-photocopy of his father with small features of his mother that make all his charm. Archie bears his name: Archie Harrison = Very son of Harry in French.

    1. I think you will find that "son" in French is "fils", so I think it's 'Very son of Harry in English!
      Just saying....:-)

Lovely wee baby ! Don’t think he is terrified, he just looks serious and must be trying to understand what he sees ...he already got deep eyebrows like Harry and Prince Philip !

If the Queen can’t attend the christening , let’s hope grand dad Charles will be present ! He seems to have a special bond with Meghan ....

So cute, and just what we were hoping for! I think Archie looks just like Harry, but with Meghan's eyes. I do hope we get to see a full photo, though, for the christening.

  12. Archie is, of course, adorable. Such an intense gaze from beautiful dark eyes, looking out at the world from the protection of daddy's arms! and the big roll-up on the sleeves of his little too-big onesie is beyond adorable! At first glance, it's almost like seeing baby Harry, although I think he has Meghan's nose. I find the composition of this picture, as I did the one of Meghan cradling his Archie's little feet, very moving. Both show the protection of the parents for their little one. Harry and Meghan are very thoughtful with selection and composition of photographs they choose to share; they convey a world of meaning that touches the heart. Is the little one going to be a ginger?
I read that the gene has to be in both parents.

    1. Yes, from the little we can see, the baby looks like Harry's baby pictures. He has his deep set eyes and prominent forehead. He seems to be a blonde or a redhead as well.

  13. I think Archie has Meghan's pretty nose.

    1. His nose does look just like Meghan's nose, which is an exceptional nose.

    2. Maybe I shouldn't say this, considering what a stinker Meghan's dad has turned out to be, but from what you can see of Archie in this picture, he looks to me like Meghan's dad. [Don't throw stones at me, please.] :-) He does seem to have fair coloring.

    3. RM in PA, you have a good point! I think Meghan has mentioned the Markle nose, which is a very nice nose. And I saw a picture of the half-brother when he was young, when Meghan was around four, and he actually was very attractive!

    4. I also thought Archie has Meghan/GrandpaMarkle nose. He also has Harry's forehead and eyes.

  15. Absolutely adorable picture of baby Archie holding onto Harry’s finger! I’m so happy that the Sussexes shared a lovely picture. Such precious moments when newborns grow and are able to focus a little more as their vision develops. At the present time, Archie appears to be a perfect combination of both his parents. Harry & Meghan must be so happy.

  16. At last we get a glimpse of baby Archie Harrison nestled in his daddy's arms. I see that baby has both his parents features and good looks. Archie has Meghan's beautiful dark eyes can't wait for his Christening in July. Happy First Fathers day Prince Harry.

  17. From this picture Archie definitely favors Meghan in the eyes and nose. Which I guess would be consistent with none of Diana;s grandchildren having any Spencer in them. Charlotte and George look 100% Windsor and Louis 100% Middleton.

    2. I would have to disagree with that. William looks like Diana and Charlotte looks like William. Also, George resembles Michael Middleton a lot, so he's not 100% Windsor.

  20. I honestly love the photo. I just wish people will stop complaining what the Sussexes share on their page. It was Harry's first Father's Day with their son and this is the picture He chose to share. I get so tired of trolls hating on this family.
May God continue to bless Harry, Meghan, and Archie #WhenLoveIsTheWay
