Harry and Meghan Share A New Wedding Portrait

Two years today, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially announced their engagement. So many of us had been waiting for the announcement for months with speculation reaching fever pitch when Meghan joined Harry for the Invictus Games in Toronto. When I started Mad About Meghan in April 2017, a number of people asked me how I was so sure Meghan was "The One" for Harry. At that point, we had seen only a handful of paparazzi photos of the couple. Even so, it was clear they had something very special. From there I researched Meghan and realised this was a woman who would excel in a royal role and shared a desire with the prince to support charitable endeavours and make a positive difference in the world. That was confirmed when they stepped out for their photoshoot at Kensington Palace. This was a couple very much in love and looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together. Harry and Meghan are clearly thinking back to that November day in 2017 when they shared their good news with the world too. To mark the occasion they shared a previously unseen wedding portrait taken by Alexi Lubomirski.

The post on Sussex Royal read: "On this day, two years ago: 27th of November 2017, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the news of their engagement, later becoming Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex! They have since celebrated their wedding anniversary and welcomed their son, Archie, into the world."

To revisit the engagement post please click here. I remember Harry saying during the interview "The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly was sort of confirmation to me all the stars were aligned. It was just perfect. It was this beautiful woman just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life, I fell into her life."

Yesterday we chatted about the wonderful Sussex Great Forest initiative. I'm delighted to tell you they have reached their original goal of planting 10,000 trees in just a week. They intend to continue and will choose a new figure to reach for Archie's birthday shortly. Keep planting, keep donating, every single tree makes a difference. For all the information on selected organisations and other options please visit this post. Until the 10 December, the International Tree Foundation are matching all donations. The organisation does outstanding work with communities in Africa and the UK to carry out sustainable community forestry projects.

Sending early Happy Thanksgiving wishes to all readers celebrating tomorrow.

  1. I think Harry and Meghan are amazing together. And I think Meghan has done a wonderful job in her new role. I miss seeing them. I hope they are able to enjoy the holiday season with their little boy and get some much needed rest. It's too bad we have bullied them out of the spotlight. Let's all be a little kinder to each other this holiday season!

    1. I am thinking the same, they looked so happy back then and Meghan wanted to fit so much, she was great. So sad to see them being criticized for everything they do.

  2. Yay new wedding picture! I love how they share new ones on big dates/anniversaries.
But also.....and I don't mean this in any kind of hating way lol like I I'm just being silly but....is anyone else slightly disgruntled about the Sussexes obsession for sepia/B&W?! 😂 :) I can appreciate black and white in some pictures especially like more "artsy" ones but this is an addiction on their parts! :P
Of course obviously I'm appreciative of anything they choose to share. It's just that so many of their private released pics are great but also make me very greedily want to see the color versions really bad :P
(yes I know I'm being ridiculous)(

    1. I appreciate that with a few exceptions such as their formal wedding shots, they've never gone for the chocolate box (overly posed sentimental shots). Their photos always let their personalities shine!

    2. I hear what you're saying Anon, for instance I think this wedding photo looks great in b&w but the photo of them with Archie does not because there isn't enough contrast in it and it's a bit too bright. Personally the photo they released of Archie with the Queen, the DoE and Doria, I liked better in color because it allowed the colors of the room and clothing to pop. Imho, for a good b&w photo there needs to be a lot of contrast, like Harry's black uniform and Meghan's white dress in order for it to really work.
But like you I'm thrilled when ever they release a new photo!

    4. Charlotte, thanks for a lovely post. I often wonder how anyone who did research on Duchess Meghan could have missed that she and Prince Harry would be perfect together. Maybe you are just the smartest royal watcher out there! I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving today and wish all US-based Duchess Meghan fans a Happy Thanksgiving!

    5. Anon, you are not being ridiculous many people will agree with you. I do however the black and whites. There is a reality that comes through in my eyes. I also appreciate the candid casual shots over the formal. I think this may be Meghan's influence in picking the photo.

  3. Oh Gosh they're just too cute! May God continue to bless and protect their union. Their engagement announcement feels like yesterday to me (I remember being so so happy for them!) but yeah a lot has happened in the meantime, the most important one being adorable little Archie of course so it isn't hard to believe it's been two years. Wishing all three of them a wonderful Thanksgiving and just lots of love and good times and good vibes during this much deserved break.

  4. Another beautiful portrait of this special couple. They have much to give. I hope the strength they draw from one another will give them the courage and resilience they need in a hostile media atmosphere.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving to Meghan and family. We've already celebrated Thanksgiving in Canada. It's a wonderful day to reflect on one's blessings, appreciate family and friends, and celebrate the harvest, which I believe was the original intention for the day.

  9. Thank you so much Charlotte for this heartwarming post! It's just the thing to put me in a good mood and get me ready to tackle hours of cooking tomorrow!

I just went back and reread your engagement post and gosh, it just brings a smile to my face!! I sincerely hope that whatever path Harry and Meghan choose to take that they will continue to find love and happiness with each other and their precious son!

Last thought, is it wrong for me to wish for a photo tomorrow of Archie gnawing on a turkey leg?! Or covered in mashed potatoes and gravy?!

  12. These photos actually make me quite... sad, I guess. It seems to me as if we were looking at a different couple now, as if they were overwhelmed by life and different obstacles in just two years. As if they lost hope, somehow. I miss their optimism and energy so much. They were so careless and cheerful at the time of their engagement, it was incredibly lovely, I wish those times could come back. The contrast is stark to me. Hopefully we will see it after their family break. It makes me feel very sentimental.

I am looking forward to Meghan's message tomorrow. Is the topic known?

  13. Please forgive me if I got this wrong, but didn't Alexi Lubomirski shoot the wedding photos? At least according to his twitter account. If I remember correctly, Chris Allerton shot the Christening pictures of little Archie and his gang ;)?. Can someone clarify?

And I agree, seeing this picture now, two years later, makes me kind of sad, seeing how things developed for the both of them.

  15. I read what the archbishop said about Meghan and I'm wondering if her super empathy for people in general also makes lies/unjustified criticism very painful? I'm thinking about people who are very sensitive either physically or mentally, and perhaps the beauty that is Meghan cannot handle the incredible joy that people find in bullying. I hope she finds her way or they retreat to a safe place.

We have a local Facebook page for my little town, and I read it to find out what's happening, recommendations, etc. There is a woman who is older and African American, which gives her three reasons to be a target here in this awful small Texas town. She has a restaurant and it is open odd hours, so some readers (male, younger, white) think it's highly amusing to speculate why -- doing drugs deals, etc. Then the woman ended up in the hospital (she can cancer) and she gets all these praying hands emojis. Then she has the nerve to get out of the hospital and the trolling begins again -- someone found out she was selling her car, so all sorts of stupid nasty comments were posted. Finally, I wrote about these people bullying a stranger and their hypocrisy, including the horrible problem the local schools are having with bullying, and it actually shut them up. (These people are super awful -- when one woman wrote to ask people to stop turning around in her driveway, they flocked to her house to turn around in her driveway!)

Anyway, I'm wondering if the very traits that make Meghan SO special will keep her from having that stiff upper lip that is so needed?

    1. Allison, you did such a good thing to silence those bullies. Well done! It's not easy to stand up for someone, especially in a small town.
Lies and unfair criticism are always painful. I believe Meghan is very sensitive but she is also strong. I suppose it's the scale and intensity of all the bullying that trouble her a lot.

    2. Zora -- Well, the bullies enjoyed it so much! And felt they had a right to publicly tell horrible lies about a stranger. Then another woman was upset that her daughter was so bullied in school. Connect the dots! And when you think about how hateful many people are and their enjoyment of bullying, it's a wonder that anything good appears online.

  16. I don't think Meghan has set a foot wrong since her engagement. She is very smart and socially intelligent. The actions of the British tabloids is unethical and immoral, really. Balance their treatment of Meghan against what she's done for her charities and patronages, and the huge amount of charity that she (and Harry) has inspired: the help to the Grenfell community, the Smart Works capsule collection, the Vogue issue are three charitable results for which Meghan does not get enough credit except among her supporters. I hope someday there will be changes.

  17. I hope they are relaxing and come back fired up for the lawsuits, but foremost, energized for new projects, ideas and to launch their Foundation. Looking forward to that one.
