A Date Night in Montecito & a Busy Week Ahead for the Sussexes

Harry and Meghan enjoyed a date night on Tuesday in Montecito. It's great to see them embracing all their new home has to offer, they are undoubtedly exploring spots that will become favourite 'locals' in the future. It's an exciting time for them now they are settled in their new home, producing substantive content for Netflix and preparing their non-profit Archewell for its official launch next year.

According to reports, they dined with David Foster and Katharine McPhee. It's been widely reported acclaimed Canadian musician David Foster helped Harry and Meghan secure the property they stayed in over Christmas in Canada and a strong friendship has developed between him and Harry. Meghan and Katharine go very far back - since they did a musical together when they were young teenagers. Though they crossed paths, their friendship began properly a couple of years ago when they connected in London. McPhee recently said: "David's the resource guy. He loves to help people. Meghan and I knew each other from childhood, but really Harry and my husband are friends. It's really nice. We just want them to end up wherever they feel safest and happiest."

Earlier this week, David and Katharine confirmed they are expecting a baby.

Harry and Meghan spent three hours at Lucky's Steakhouse. The venue offers "a comfortable setting that’s right for brunch, a casual midweek burger or a special-occasion dinner. A warm welcome for old friends and new acquaintances. Well-crafted cocktails and a cellar of premium wines".

The Duchess wore an oatmeal sweater with cropped leather pants and a trench coat. Liz from Meghan's Fashion noted it appears to be Club Monaco's Reissue Trench. The piece is described: "The reissue trench takes inspiration from the Club Monaco archives with a new fabrication, pairing double-breasted styling with short sleeves and seamed cuffs."

Meghan carried Stella McCartney's Logo Crossbody bag.

The Duchess completed the look with a pair of Chloe Gosselin Kasia mules. The style is inspired by 90s red carpet looks. Crafted in Italy from soft tangerine suede, they are decorated with a square bamboo buckle at the toe and 70mm heel for comfortable lift.

Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess are supporting causes close to their hearts and we'll be hearing quite a bit from them in the coming days.

Tomorrow, 10 October - The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed several high-school students from the Teenager Therapy podcast to Montecito this week to record a special conversation marking World Mental Health Day. Carly Ledbetter reports: "I'm told the Duke and Duchess are so impressed with the grace and honesty of the hosts, who are all seniors in high school, and really wanted to support their work." The conversation will see discussion focused on how we can all contribute to a healthier world; mentally, physically and emotionally.  The episode will be available on all platforms at 5 pm tomorrow and I'll write up a post as soon as I listen to it.

Sunday, 12 October - In honour of International Day of the Girl, Harry and Meghan filmed a discussion with the inspirational Malala Yousafzai which will air on Sunday. Victoria Murphy reports the conversation focuses on "COVID-19’s disproportionate impact on young women’s access to education and how everyone can all contribute to a more equal future for girls."

Tuesday, 13 October - Meghan will make her second appearance with Fortune's Powerful Women Next Generation Summit. We'll see the Duchess in discussion with Emma Hinchliffe about the importance of leading with your values and chasing convictions with actions.

I'll see you all tomorrow!

  1. Can't wait for your coverage, but I don't believe that double date story. If they did celebrate with the Fosters, where are the pictures of the two couples together?

The money shots for paparazzi are the ones of Harry & Meghan. I’m sure Katherine and David don’t matter to the press at all.

    2. I agree Bernadette. Quoting the Fail is always a risky proposition. Also, Katharine is far too chatty with the media to be a real friend to Meghan. There are other reports out there that suggest Meghan was more friendly with her sister and that Katherine is more of an acquaintance than a friend because of that. I'm willing to believe otherwise if Meghan confirms it herself.

  2. Love that both Meghan and Harry are establishing a good balance between work and social life. It is important for all. Looking at their photos as much as we can see they are both looking very California Casual which is the norm in that area of the country. Clothing styles are greatly complimented by the weather. Lover Meghan's trench coat, wonder if its
hiding something very special as weather has been in the 70-80 range and only dipping into 60's at night. Not necessarily coat weather.

  3. More wonderful causes and love the fashion (what we can see) as well. LOL, well Harry's brown shoes could use an update ๐Ÿ˜ The Sussexes are helping make 2020 better...and while I never like to speculate, USA Granny's supposition would give even more of a boost๐Ÿ˜‡

  4. If they indeed dined with the Fosters, they probably met inside the restaurant. I also wondered why Meghan wore a coat and kept it so close. :) I am glad they can spend time with people they trust. Based on the garbage in the UK papers, and on the continual lack of support in the public arena there, I'm very glad they can have friends and act like the young couple they are. I think it's lovely that McPhee has never tried to capitalize on her friendship with Meghan and, indeed, seems to have been a great help.

Charlotte, thanks for the warning about all their engagements coming up!
I didn’t know that Meghan and Katherine knew each other as teenagers. That picture of M and K is priceless. How fun that they have reconnected.

  11. It is very sad to hear Meghan now talking about the amount of online trolling she got during her pregnancy and afterwards and I can understand how it has affected them both. They must have been desperate to answer back and take action and felt frustrated that Buckingham Palace advice was to ignore it. It also helps to explain why they felt they weren't getting enough support from the Royal Family and stepped down from being senior members. An instinctive retreat in order to protect themselves and above all their son, is perfectly understandable. However that doesn't mean that the previous advice was wrong or that their subsequent actions have been the best choice to make. Their court cases and the stepped up publicity drive in California is surely exposing themselves even more to nasty comments and has made their situation worse. Their interest in woke matters appears to be genuine and certainly they have a right to be involved, but the lectures about equality and gender issues grate when it is from a couple with royal titles and a privileged lifestyle. The only strategy which might work is to stop all the organised interviews and knuckle down to starting up their Netflix production company. Once they have a substantial documentary under their belts, they can use that to establish their charitable credentials. If they want more direct involvement with their chosen charities it should be mainly behind the scenes without the staged publicity shots. This would refute the mean comments that they are getting from critics in UK and elsewhere. I wish them well in their endeavours.

    1. I think you make good points, A NZ fan. It's got very polarised, but it's possible to support Meghan and Harry, yet question their actions. Perhaps fewer of the zoom speeches and a bit more practical activity?

      Delete
    2. What are you talking about? It’s a pandemic most practical activity is happening via zoom. In the USA massive political conventions were just recently held via zoom. That’s not Harry and Meghan’s choice. I’ve also seen them at food banks, community gardens, and other initiatives. What practical activity do you want given the global circumstances??

    3. A NZ Fan, it seems you missed Meghan's point when she said she was trolled viciously while mostly out of the public view for 8 months so disappearing is not the answer. The answer is exactly what she and Harry are doing which is providing an alternative view or different perspective. When you're being attacked, you can flee or fight and Meghan and Harry have done and are doing both because within that horrible family, they could do neither and they're not expecting the lies and trolling to end with their move. They left to have control over their own lives meaning doing what they chose to do to without working with the very people that were abusing them and preventing them from responding to the deluge of lies. Now, people have a choice they didn't have when they were senior royals which is to believe the lies or believe them. All those years of silence created an environment where many people believed the lies because they never got an alternate version of events. They also left to escape the racial abuse of the media in the UK. As an American, I've been absolutely appalled by what has been written/said about Meghan in the UK because anything similar in the US would have resulted in the end of careers, early retirements, firings, public apologies and even boycotts but in the UK it's just a typical day in the life. So shameful. Finally, their situation is infinitely better because US media is not obsessed with destroying them like the UK media so here we hear about their work not gossip about their personal lives which seems to be what the UK press is most interested in. Keep doing your thing Meghan and Harry. I'm so proud of you both!

  12. I'm so thankful Prince Harry & beautiful Meghan are finally returning to normalcy. I would NEVER wish what they have gone through and going through on my worst enemy. All this young couple wanted to do was WORK and be happy. For those who hate on them: Give it time... Whatever you showed, that too is what you shall reap!

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
