The Sussexes Support Expectant Mother's on Mother's Day

To celebrate Mother's Day in the US, Archewell Foundation and Procter and Gamble have joined forces to support a Los Angeles-based organisation, Harvest Home, that supports expectant mothers who are experiencing homelessness. In a post on Archewell's website, the couple said, "On a day when we celebrate and reflect on motherhood, we’re reminded of the journey to motherhood as well. Pregnancy can be a vulnerable time for any mother, but it can be especially difficult for pregnant women of color and those who come from under-resourced and vulnerable communities. In Los Angeles alone, 5,000 women each year experience homelessness at some point during their pregnancy, and they are often turned away from shelters, at no fault of their own."

To support Harvest Home, Harry, Meghan and Procter & Gamble are fulfilling the charity's online wish list, including diapers for a year and cleaning supplies to stock the organisation's first facility, which is in development.

More from Archewell:
'Through Archewell Foundation, The Duke and Duchess’ mission is to demonstrate compassion in action, spark supportive and connected communities, and build a more equitable and just future. Their aim is to ensure that parents, of every makeup and all walks of life, have the support they need to raise families that thrive. '

The gift arrived with a personal letter from Meghan. "As a mom, and an expectant mom, I deeply appreciate the significance of community support, safe and accessible pregnancy resources, and trusted guidance in a nurturing setting. These ingredients are essential to not just our physical health, but our mental well-being, and I commend you for leading a compassionate community that lives these values." Meghan thanked the team at Harvest Home for the work they do for the "women and mothers who are turned away elsewhere, at no fault of their own".

Harvest Home said they were "thrilled" to receive the donation.

If you would like to donate, the charity is running a 'Virtual House Party' where one can 'browse' rooms of the house and purchase items needed. From cooking utensils to towels and linen, every single item is greatly appreciated.

During Vax Live last night, Meghan touched on the impending arrival of her daughter. "My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter. It's a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world. When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and support to lead us forward." The Duchess wore a poppy print Carolina Herrera dress and the Awe Inspired Woman Power Necklace for the star-studded event which mobilised $302 million and 26 million doses. The statement closed with: "From all of us at Team Archewell, Happy Mother’s Day. May we all recognize and support the expectant mothers, as well as all mothers, in our lives and communities every day in the year ahead." To echo that sentiment, a very Happy Mother's Day to all celebrating!

As Meghan and Harry spend the day with their son, awaiting the arrival of their daughter, it's particularly special this year.

  4. It's absolutely horrifying that in the richest state in a rich nation that pregnant women are homeless? Shocking. Good work for highlighting this and good work from Proctor and Gamble.
