Meghan in Valentino for Invictus Games Reception

The second day of the Invictus Games 2022 was an absolutely packed one, filled with unforgettable moments and highlights for many of the athletes. To bring the days official appearances to a close, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a reception this evening.

The event was private and thus far we haven't seen the release of official photos (should that change, I'll update the post immediately). My guess is it may have been a reception hosted by the Invictus Games Foundation.

Meghan was warmly welcomed by a lady named Eline who posted several lovely photos after the reception. Both Meghan and Eline looked very elegant and it's great to see the good weather continuing.

The statement red lip looks fabulous. Meghan's make up artist and close friend Daniel Martin is in the Netherlands with her.

I do remember during the 2018 Sydney Games Harry and Meghan attended a previously unannounced engagement for the Foundation. The Duchess was chic in a Jason Wu crepe sheath dress with a crossover neckline.

Prince Harry was dapper in a tan suit.

The Invictus Games Foundation was established to pursue and develop the Invictus Games’ legacy. The Foundation was set up to build on the success of 2014 and broaden the concept in the future. The Foundation manages the process of selecting the hosts of future games and overseeing their delivery as well as seeking out ways of supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of  wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women beyond the Games.

The team at the Foundation work year-round with Harry to plan the games and support veterans and their families along the way. Harry and Meghan have been accompanied by a Netflix filming crew on several of their appearances at the games. A fact you may not have read in the plethora of coverage about this, is proceeds from the series will go directly to the Foundation. CEO Dominic Reid said they will receive "significant funding" and they are delighted the "Netflix spotlight will shine on the Invictus generation".

A group photo with members of Team Ukraine. I've noticed Harry and Meghan ensure they spend as much time as possible with the team at every event. Many of them will return home to unimaginable circumstances and it is so important they know the Invictus family is with them and there to support them in the uncertain weeks ahead.

The Duchess looked effortlessly chic in the Valentino Floral Laser-Cut Dress (with thanks to Jozzaphen). The ivory piece is a "crepe couture dress", featuring a round neckline, shift silhouette and a back zip. The piece is made in Italy and available at Neiman Marcus.

A closer look at the laser-cut detail.

The Duchess carried the Khaite Beatrice shoulder bag in brown suede (with thanks to UFO No More).

The Duchess wore her Valentino tortoise sunglasses.

From Eline's photos it looks very much like Meghan her Cartier Love Bracelet and Bentley & Skinner Diamond Tennis Bracelet  once again.

Meghan will return to California tomorrow to reunite with Archie and Lili. I'm not entirely sure if she will have another public appearance, if not I'll be doing roundups during the week covering Harry.

Many thanks for following and for your kind comments :)

  3. I am absolutely loving the red lip and side-part on Meghan, very glamorous!! Is Valentino her new go-to designer? If so, I think she’s made an excellent choice as I’ve loved everything she’s worn over the last few days. These last 3 days have gone by so quickly and I’ll certainly miss seeing Meghan but I’m sure she’s excited to get home to her babes.

Thank you Charlotte for your excellent posts and please let us know if you are able to ID some of the pieces of jewelry that haven’t been ID’d yet.

    1. I agree about the side-part and the red lip. Beautiful! I was wondering if, now that Meghan is no longer a working royal, she is able to accepts gifts of clothes from designers. She is great advertising for anyone she wears.

    2. She wears beautiful clothes and her shoe game is as strong as ever, but I’m not sure this jacket is very flattering on her. I feel like for the most part, the designers she favors don’t really have her shape in mind when they’re creating clothes, or really anyone who isn’t shaped like a tall willowy model. I’ve always thought a really great tailor would make a big difference in how clothes look on her, but suspect she wants to keep the designers’ vision “pure.”

  4. Thank you, Charlotte, for these photos from the reception. Meghan looks fantastic. Harry does, too. It's lifted my spirits to see both of them these last few days. Harry is over the moon to be with his military/veteran family -- the place he felt most at home.

I've been moved to tears seeing the wounded veterans work so hard and compete so compassionately with each other. What a wonderful thing Harry has done to create this vehicle for veterans to re-claim their confidence and their lives.

    1. Harry did look good in that outfit, it complements him. Even better, the couple coordinated in a similar color motif has a peaceful coolness about it.

  5. This dress is pretty, though I don't like the length. The red lipstick and hair to one side I prefer and love, this looks fabulous. Love the bag.

  6. It had been a memorable experience of laughter, friendship, and hope in spite of pain and suffering. War can be chaotic and its effect is carried through the years sometimes in loneliness and loss. These few days had been a touching possibility of what can be possible if there is a will. I came to like and respect Harry since the 2014 Invictus games in London. He seems to have found a solid purpose in this comradery, challenging games, and "family reunion". Whatever the couple's life had been, it was gratifying to hear Meghan give him all the deserving tribute in her speech.

I hope the Netflix show will be successful enough to alleviate some support for survivors and wounded veterans. Harry's genuine-looking enthusiasm and joy to be there were inspiring. Meghan's style was all spot on. One constant reality had been their love and support for each. I wish them and all the Invictus family best wishes for the future.

  7. she looks so pretty and happy nice to see! thank you Charlotte for this. There has been so much bad press coverage after she announced she would no longer be doing one of her royal patronages that helped shelter animals. so nice to see her and Harry doing this good work for the amazing Invictus Games. Happy Easter Charlotte!

  9. You are wonderful and so talented Charlotte, we are the ones who thank you for all the great work you do.
I really wish we saw the Susse couple more often, they are so captivating and engaging.
I also really appreciated the make-up of her lips, really very successful and congratulations for her outfits!

  10. Proceeds from the Netflix filming the Games series will go directly to the Invictus Foundation as highlighted by Charlotte. So some of the earlier media reports that the Sussex are profiteering from veterans are not correct.

The British tabloid reports on security details for the Sussex crossed the line I think when they identified one of security men by name and even published their photographs.

Also it is rather crass on the part of some tabloid media to repeatedly price tagged the clothes and jewelry worn by Meghan including the cost of her engagement ring.

    1. The Daily Mail will stop at nothing to attack the Sussexes, and that includes publishing information that really isn't anyone's business.

As for clothing prices, the trashy tabloids also crassly publish the cost of the Duchess of Cambridge's clothes and jewelry. The idea is to paint these women as extravagant without actually coming right out and saying they are. Since their clothes are not paid for with taxpayer funds, these digs are really pointless.

I should add: when Prince Harry's mother was making official trips abroad with Prince Charles, she figured out that she could submit bills for the clothing worn on those trips to the Foreign Office and that the FO would pay them. I don't know whether the FO still does that. If it does, then THAT money would comprise taxpayer funds, but obviously, such funds would not be going to pay for the Duchess of Sussex's wardrobe.

    2. I always understood that the Prince of Wales paid for clothing allowances for both his wives and also his two daughter in laws. Is this not correct?

  12. These shift-style minidresses that Meghan Sussex likes are not my cup of tea, though I think this one works better on her than the one she wore in New York. (It was New York, wasn't it?) I do appreciate the unexpected pairing of the dress with brown accessories. Interesting.

The red lipstick is terrific; it works beautifully with her coloring. She should wear it more often.

  13. While I likes many of pieces Meghan wear for the games, the proportions and fit not flattering for her shape. A good tailor is needed.

  15. I'm enjoying how the graciousness of the Dutch security provided to Harry and Meghan puts in high relief the inexcusable, petty, spitefulness of Britain in this regard.

  16. Hi Charlotte,

You may not want to post this comment, but I am in utter disbelief at ALL of the nasty articles being written about Harry on places like the Daily Mail! The gossipy writers at the tabloids just cant seem to twist his words in enough ways to criticize him and put him down. I have never seen anything like this in my life.

On the one hand, there is all the criticism based on his totally innocuous interview; and on the other hand, they print photos of every sweet or caring thing he does, because they really do love him and are fascinated by his charisma and humanity.

Daily Mail is like a jilted, controlling lover in regard to Harry. So pathetic. So destructive. So lacking in ethics, integrity and humanity.

I hope he and Meghan can continue to ignore all these vicious, ridiculous words, and the people who believe them.

  17. Why has the Mad About Meghan blog become a place to attack the Royal family? If the Royal family showed up at the Invictus Games, you would be saying that they are trying to take the spotlight away from Harry. So, I think it is a no win situation for them. And, everyone here is assuming everything that Harry and Meghan say is true. We don't know anything. How could he possibly "protect" his grandmother and make certain the "right" people are around her when he has not seen her for two years and spent 15 minutes with her when he did. No one in the Royal family has said one word against Harry but we cannot say the same where the Sussexes are concerned. We know the Royal family will never defend themselves or publish a contradiction. Think about it.

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
