The Sussexes Take the Train to Manchester

The Sussexes UK appearances begin today! Harry and Meghan were photographed leaving Windsor earlier, and were driven to London Euston where they took a train to Manchester. It's understood the couple will meet with young leaders and ambassadors before this evening's opening summit begins.

Hello! exclusively reported Harry and Meghan arrived in the UK via a commercial flight on Saturday morning. It's believed Archie and Lili are not with them on this visit, and the couple are staying in their Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage. I hadn't seen images of the property following the renovations until last week when Frogmore Gardens were open to the public for three days. A reader sent me a photo (which I cannot share for privacy reasons, though similar are circulating online). I will say, the 'before and after' transformation yielded fantastic results. The completed project managed to reassemble, if you will, what looked like several extensions to the original building (for staff accommodation) into a contemporary, tasteful home remaining very much in keeping with the aesthetic of a Grade II listed home built at the beginning of the 19th century.

The Duchess is dressed in a neutral palette with her hair worn in a ponytail.

With thanks to What Meghan Wore and Laura, it very much looks like Meghan's wearing Brandon Maxwell's Classic Silk-Cashmere Polo Sweater. The pants look very similar to a pair we saw in New York.

There was quite a funny moment when a passerby was walking past and noticed the couple.

For those outside the UK, there's been an enormous amount of wall to wall coverage in anticipation of this week. There's always a 'feeding frenzy' when the Sussexes are here that can be overwhelming to say the least. With that in mind, it was refreshing to hear stories from those involved with One Young World. Over the years in royal watching and following Harry and Meghan's journey, I'm continually impressed with the poise, maturity and determination we see in the young people they work with. Take Youth Ambassador and Mancunian Emma Greenwood who handled her BBC interview with aplomb. Perhaps you won't be surprised to hear Emma's the youngest voice -- a member of Youth Parliament for Bury, Manchester.

One Young World healthcare activist Patrick described the Duchess as "an icon", adding, "Meghan Markle is adored all the way back in Ghana and Africa." A representative for the youth organization was asked about the Duchess and said: "She's always been genuinely incredibly passionate about gender equality. She speaks about it really eloquently. I know she really, really cares about it and that's why she's here."

The summit begins at 6 pm. There is a livestream available on the One Young World YouTube channel. Meghan will deliver the keynote speech.

I'll have a full post after the event.

  1. The pace is good CharlotteπŸ˜€πŸ‘. I can't wait to read you soon.
They are too interesting and charming the Sussexes. Come on Meghan, our love for you is greater than the violence and wickedness of some, be strong, turn the page and with your husband do what makes your window dynamic and your charm: work and compassionπŸ’žπŸ‘πŸ™

  2. Great to see them. Forgive me, still think she is too short for this kind of pants - Marlene Dietrich style. Her speech was great though. Maria

    1. Pure curiosity. Just wondering why you have a Kate Middleton image on your MadAboutMeghan blog spot? Good coverage as always. Thank you.

  4. I really enjoyed seeing so much of the opening ceremony. I of course loved seeing H&M! I appreciated her outfit/earrings, which had more of a celebratory feel than a formal feel, which was completely appropriate (I thought it was orange but am reading that it was red). Meghan is an excellent speaker -- she had a very good speech. I knew they flew into the UK early for a reason, and we now know at least some of their activities; any being with OYW people further shows M's devotion to the cause. I loved it.

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
