Updates on a Busy Week for the Sussexes

We have quite a bit of Sussex news to share tonight!

First up, one of my favourite episodes of Archetypes thus far aired yesterday. 'Upending the "Angry Black Woman" Myth' with the inimitable Issa Rae, Ziwe and Professor Emily Bernard offered an incredibly vivid analysis of the tropes seen both through the lens of the entertainment industry and the personal experiences of the women involved. In the episode, Meghan says, "You’re allowed to set a boundary, you’re allowed to be clear. It does not make you demanding, it does not make you difficult." Recalling her acting days, Meghan added: "I remember when I was auditioning, the idea of even Black roles, I remember those casting sheets where the description of the character, she always had to have an edge or an attitude." During the conversation, the Duchess revealed she is 43% Nigerian. The podcast coincided with news that Archewell had made donations to Save the Children and UNICEF Nigeria, two organizations leading the fight amid devastating floods in the country.

Below, Ziwe shared a lovely photo with Meghan from their recording session.

People reports:

'Issa shared that she's taken advice from other Black women in the entertainment industry to not be afraid of being called a b—, and she took a friend calling her "particular" as a compliment.

"To me, that means I have a sense of what I want," the Insecure star, 37, said.

"I'm particular," Meghan, 41, agreed. "A. I think a high tide raises all ships — we're all going to succeed, so let's make sure it's really great because it's a shared success for everybody. But I also know that I will find myself cowering and tiptoeing into a room — I don't know if you ever do that, the thing that I find the most embarrassing — when you're saying a sentence and the intonation goes up like it's a question. And you're like, 'Oh my God, stop!' Stop whispering and tiptoeing around and say what it is you need. You're allowed to set a boundary, you're allowed to be clear. It does not make you demanding, it does not make you difficult. It makes you clear."

The Archewell website has been updated, with a number of Harry and Meghan's recent appearances included.

An update on supporting families forced to flee Afghanistan read: "Over the past year, Archewell Foundation has been working with Team Rubicon to help welcome families forced to flee Afghanistan into their new homes in the United States. Together, Archewell Foundation has helped Team Rubicon’s volunteers serve nearly 4,000 Afghan individuals through home-move ins, providing essential items and offering support. We’re delighted to hear the program has now engaged more than 2,000 volunteers."

The update included reference to an upcoming speaking engagement for the Duchess. Meghan will celebrate the Power of Women at an event hosted by Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, a special interest fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) on 29 November.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has been busy focusing on topics close to his heart. Harry hosted a conversation as part of Archewell's ongoing commitment to online safety with "the amazing young people of the Gifted Young Gravesham (GYG), a partner organization to 5Rights Foundation, an Archewell ally, focused on improving online safety for young people everywhere". The young people involved shared deeply personal stories about their experiences online and a path forward to make the internet safer for everyone.

There's been exciting news for Harry's Travalyst organisation.

'[London, 25th October 2022] Travalyst, the not-for-profit sustainable travel organisation set up by Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, today welcomes Amadeus to its coalition.

Amadeus is a global travel technology company with more than 16,000 employees worldwide and headquartered in Madrid (Spain), working in over 190 countries. Often referred to as the backbone of the travel industry, its technology platforms power hundreds of the consumer-facing travel companies that millions of travellers and thousands of travel agents interact with on a daily basis through the broad range of its technology offering.

Amadeus becomes Travalyst’s eighth partner (alongside Booking.com, Expedia Group, Google, Skyscanner, Tripadvisor, Trip.com Group, and Visa). Their considerable expertise as a global travel technology provider will enhance Travalyst’s reach and reinforce the objective to help travellers make sustainable travel choices.

In conjunction with its coalition partners, Travalyst is developing a framework of shared principles and preferred methodology for reporting sustainability – focusing initially on aviation and accommodation – which has begun to be implemented by some of Travalyst’s travel distribution partners.'

In his role as BetterUp, Chief Impact Officer, Harry discussed the power of coaching as a catalyst for transforming ourselves and our relationships: "I never, ever, ever thought I would be sitting on this stage saying, 'Therapy is good, and coaching will change your life,' or, 'Both will change your life.' And the more people that we can get that to, the better."

Harry continued: "We're also at the point where we actually need to unlock that potential because of the state of the world and the number of unknowns. It is scary, especially if you have children. Even if you don't have children, I think it's still pretty scary. Therefore, we have to do that. And the only way we can do that is individually, grow ourselves, but also for the people who we're responsible for, help them to grow as well."

BetterUp shared clips.

And before I sign off, I see Archetypes is nominated for Best Pop Podcast of 2022 in the People's Choice Awards. Click here to vote.

  3. Thank you, Charlotte, for these wonderful updates. So happy to see Meghan and Harry doing what they set out to do and living their best lives. They are global figures with an impactful global reach that will only grow. I'm so happy they have the support necessary to ignore and rise above the vicious noise. I continue to wish them every success and every happiness.

  6. We are watching something awesome on a global scale and something awful on the British scene that is trying to oppose it. God gave the BRF Meghan and Harry to help them to defocus from their self-absorb importance and to focus on the poor and needy. Archwell is make tangible contributions to persons of need and Archetypes is causing many to reevaluate self in the context of reclaiming self from the wicked people of the world. Harry and Meghan do not do tours to boost their popularity, they do tours to give popularity to those who desperately need it but can't get it. God is turning the bitter lemons of The Smear Campaign into delicious lemonade for the needy to enjoy.

  8. It's just lovely seeing Harry so genuinely happy. It does feel like the Sussexes have turned a corner, of sorts.

  9. This was another wonderful podcast. What I love is that there is so much information, not a wasted word, wrapped in an entertaining cloak. I thought of Anita Hill. And I thought of Justice Jackson -- I do not know how she kept calm. I wasn't calm. My husband wasn't calm. It was unbelievable -- and she's already showing her brilliance. Other candidates, white men, have been allowed angry outbursts -- she was not allowed. I am realizing now just one of the reasons for leaving -- they could not be part of the royal foundation, or have their own while being working royals, and be able to donate money as the need arrived. There's just so much to appreciate as they ramp up after starting their family.

They are finally able to ‘walk their talk’ and do the things they care about that make a difference. And I do love how Harry keeps speaking about mental health. I see critics but then I see reports on results of their work , and I’m impressed. The good work will survive all the gossip and garbage. Thank you Charlotte for being so good at reporting.

  12. I'd like to comment on Harry's boot title. It really says it all. Charles wanted children and wanted two; the first one was the important one. The second was not a girl and was "ginger," two disappointments, I guess. I don't understand why it matters who carries on the lineage -- the children of his siblings are just as good but I'm just naive. His mother said he needed extra attention to make up for the inequity and then she dies. Of course he's no longer "the spare," but this cruel system shaped his life. I already preordered and it's already a best-seller. He's giving away ~$2 million from the profits, so the recipients are more important than the usual nasty criticism that has already started.

  13. I know we don't show unauthorized photos of Meaghan, such as during her recent Montecito shopping day, but I saw later that she was wearing an emerald necklace and it was so pretty! I focus more on jewelry than clothes, so it was fun to see.

  16. It was wonderful -- we are getting spoiled. I am amused that the worst that people are saying now is that Meghan refers to Harry as her "husband." I'm trying to figure out why she's the only spouse not allowed to do that. :) I love that she has friends and plays.

  17. I realized that I am totally spoiled by Charlotte's reviews of Meghan's podcasts and hope she has time to do the latest. Bad of me I know!!

  21. Is there any problem with this blog? I can't see new posts

    ReplyDelete
  22. Charlotte, are you OK? It has been SO much for you, with the Queen's death, the funeral that lasted forever, and then the flurry of activities for both blogs. I'm worried that you are overworked.

  23. Thank you so much for your comments!

We've been working on the site behind-the-scenes and due to an unexpected issue I've been unable to publish. It should all be (finally) sorted over the next couple of days and I'll have a wrap up then :)

  29. I was getting crazed for some Meghan talk so I went to the What Meghan Wore site, thinking I could at least see her new emerald necklace and that site has not posted since October 18. That seems odd.

  31. My deepest and sincerest apologies dear readers. I've lost three posts in the process of site issues, however I am delighted to say it is all resolved now. If we see images/info from Meghan's engagement tonight, I'll have a new post. Otherwise I will post a catch later tonight.

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
