Harry & Meghan's Netflix Docu-Series Trailer Released

It's been one of the most talked about, critiqued and dissected pieces of television this year, yet only today was a glimpse of Harry and Meghan's six-part docu-series revealed. Helmed by I'll Be Gone in the Dark director Liz Garbus, it pulls back the curtain on the couple's love story and tackles subsequent conversations which arose because of their relationship -- or rather, the reaction to it. Asked why they made it, Harry replied: "No one knows what’s happening behind closed doors. I had to do everything I could to protect my family." Meghan continued: "When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?"

Speaking to Variety for October's cover story, Meghan said: "It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story — a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired. My husband has never worked in this industry before. For me, having worked on Suits, it’s so amazing to be around so much creative energy and to see how people work together and share their own points of view. That’s been really fun."

The series will include interviews with "family, friends and historians", many of whom are speaking about Harry and Meghan's experiences for the first time. It "discusses the state of the British Commonwealth and the Royal family's relationship with the press" to ultimately paint a picture of how we treat one another.

It was a treat to see so many personal photos from the early days of their relationship. Canada, Botswana, their wedding...

It's been widely rumoured the series drops 8 December, though the date remains unconfirmed by Netflix.

  5. Wow - perhaps it won’t be as explosive as the Oprah interview - but sadly, I think that this will cement the end of Harry’s relationship with his father and brother. Doesn’t matter what any of our personal thoughts or opinions are - the destruction of a family is tragic.

    1. I couldn’t agree more! Sadly, for any short term gains that are made for them….. (finally having their side of their story to have been told…) at what price? Just like people say, we never have our life’s regrets be that we wished that we had spent more time on those things that separated us from our family….. I feel, in the end, this will be one of the saddest regrets of their (or just even Harry’s) life. :(

    2. Why? A sincere apology from the royal family can do wonders .

    7. I suspect no one has said to them "Oh, sorry." Sorry we let this happen and sorry we keep employing the people who orchestrated the abuse. The people at one of my freelance jobs did some bad things to me and I email them every now and then to say I'm waiting for the apology. Hasn't come! It's like an abusive marriage -- everyone has to want to make it right, not just the victims.

    8. I think many of us can relate to their story - at least I can as I completely feel them. I read their actions to be inevitably transformative. It is about finding the voice which under such a pressure and circumstances has been silenced. I think they have right to tell their truth and their family should should tolerance and compassion. Otherwise they will never learn the lesson and never stop the family trauma

    9. Harry and Meghan are creating a public record of their history which cannot be erased. You know the attempt will be made to erase them and their experiece, just as that attempt is made to erase Diana's story, even by one of her own.

  7. I can't wait to see it its going to be sadly though more explosive than the oprah show and may pull the royal family even further apart which is sad for Wills, Charles and Harry. On a happy note i love seeing the unseen footage of them together looking so happy and in love

  8. so excited for there i love the duke and duchess sussex let a see what will cause and reaction of his father and brother

  9. While I’m glad that Harry & Meghan are so happy together, I do wonder about the timing of the release of this trailer. One already speculated that this is only going to damage further the fractured relationship they have the the royal family, so why “run salt into the wound” and release it when the Prince & Princess of Wales are on their tour? This is not a coincidence and just adds to the sadness I feel about the whole thing.

I don't have Netflix so I will not see the documentary, but sharing all of these pictures is very nice from them ! They look so happy and in love.

  11. The trailer makes me sad, to be honest. It was sweet to see all the romantic images, but I can't shake the feeling that this is going to destroy whatever relationship there still is between H&M and the rest of Harry's family. Not saying the relationship could ever be fully repaired, but I think this would close the door on a possible reconciliation. I know H&M want to get their story out there, but I feel that they have done that and the next piece would be for everyone to move forward in their separate paths and let time heal as much as can be healed.

I do like the photos of them. I’m concerned it came out today with the P&PoW being in in Boston because it looks like dueling publicists. I keep hoping they are having a very secret visit together.

  13. Oh my goodness, gracious! I cannot wait! I’m more excited for this than season 5 of The Crown! I doubt it will change that many minds, but there a lot of us, maybe more than there are trolls, that are interested in what they do & just want them to be happy!
But, more out and about please. Just want to see the fashion!

  14. I am not white and something about how brutally Meghan was and is being vilified in the tabloids affects me. I can understand how hurt they must have felt when the RF stayed quiet. And hurt people make mistakes in their anger. The Oprah interview was a mistake, which turned public sentiment against them. I just hope this docu-series is not as damaging.

  15. I cannot wait for this to drop. Might have to call in sick to binge this.

  16. I love the new photos. There’s a lot of love there.

I’m a big K drama fan (Korean produced dramas which are as good, if not better, as what’s coming out of the US and Europe) so I have Netflix. Will be watching. 🫰

  17. One of your rules below is not to focus on any other member of the Royal Family, yet the new Netflix docu drama is obviously going to be revealing intimate family dynamics. Harry and Meghan are showing a total abuse of his family's privacy and it looks as if things are getting much worse. How are you going to deal with this awful family conflict? I always hoped that the love between Charles, William and Harry would heal the rifts but this seems no longer possible. Personally it is forcing me to take sides and I will no longer be following this blog. Thankyou for all the work you have put into it Charlotte. Annette NZ

    1. Hi Annette, I have adored Harry since he was a tiny boy. I lived through the Diana years, and as I look back on those difficult days for the Princess (and the King - there are 2 sides to every story), I am sure of 1 thing. She would have deeply regretted the Panorama interview, which ultimately changed her life so intimately & tragically. I just feel like they are doing EXACTLY what the late Princess did, and listening to falsehoods & inventing or exaggerating things in their minds that are complicating their memories of the truth. Is there some truth?? Yes, possibly - but is it like they are portraying - no, I doubt it. And, they have made the worst error of judgement since leaving the family - they are now losing the broader public opinion, and that is sad. They were SO loved, and the money they will earn from Netflix to sustain their lifestyle will come at an immeasurably sad price. Thank you Charlotte - I’m joining Annette, I’m not so much taking sides, I’ve just lost my love to follow them. Merry Christmas to all of the lovely readers on this blog, I’ve loved seeing your comments over the years. Take care, Dee xx

    2. I have to say, I agree. The trailer makes me very uncomfortable. The need to go back to their rift with the RF feels contrived and to profit from it. The Oprah interview was to tell "their side", now the book, the documentary.. my goodness! Didn't they want to be less public with their personal lives? The photos, the cameras following them in private moments, it all feels very contrived. I kept hoping they would move forward after the interview, yet here we are ... still. I'm grateful for Charlotte's hard work over the years, but I don't feel like I can follow them anymore.

    3. I have the same feelings. The Oprah interview. The Netflix six-part documentary series and 'Spare' coming out in January. I'm afraid this is where I now have to stop and unfollow the Sussex's. My hope in seeing them move ahead and create new memories. Alas no. I was born the same year as the late Princess and have children the same age as William and Harry, plus one after. I have had a soft spot for Harry since he was a little one. Seeing the photos of these very private moments, Netflix cameras following them to me seems very false and artificial, there is nothing private about this life, very invasive. Earning an income this way, unfortunately I dont have that same respect and have lost interest. Wishing everyone a Merry and safe Christmas.

  18. I wish they would not have done this. It’s distracting from their good work and looks obsessively self-referential. I look forward to reading what other Sussex supporters think about it.

  20. I’m also looking forward to it, even though the whole thing is saddening and maddening to me.

Various news outlets are reporting it’s time for H&M to move on and I hope we have yet to see great things from them.
It bugs me that the RF claim to want to modernize but couldn’t allow them to pursue their own passions in a way that would enhance rather than destroy the family, so short sighted.

  21. Lili I have been confused about one thing. I am white and my husband is from southern Indian and very dark. When we had our twins everyone wondered what they would look like. We did not find this offensive. Is is generally considered to be offensive? In case anyone is curious, one is much darker than the other, and they are both beautiful.

    1. i guess it depends on the person i know my sister is half black and half white and her husband white and she would be real offended if was asked how dark the kid they are having would be. she had the baby and some commented hes so much lighter than they thought and he doesn't look black at all some said all very offensive because it is taken that the blacker he looks the less he is to the more desired white european standard

    2. I understand everyone feeling like this is a bad move. I remind myself that Meghan, and Harry, received an enormous amount of abuse even before leaving, and after leaving, so it's not like they are destroying a favorable public view. I have seen nothing to indicate affection -- if Charles, or even the Queen, once permitted a photo with Archie or Lili, I would feel there was something there. As it is, the RF just needs to grow up. I also suspect that we will see truths we already know and mostly barbs at the "palace people." I think there is racism and heirarchy-ism. The only family that is likely to take a hit or those that won't speak to H&M or meet their children. The other angle is that H&M reportedly received a good amount of money. That will help with their philanthropy and with diminished interest in this generation when Meghan and Kate age but their children are the new targets. In the way of the world, it's much more important for Sentabale, for example, to receive >$1 million than for us to pretend there is closeness between some members of the RF.

  22. I totally support Harry and Meghan's documentary. It could not harm their relationship with their "family members" more than what those members did to Harry and Meghan. This is more an institution than a family. The jealousy and leaking to enhance one's own visibility and popularity are rife throughout. I applaud the exposure of the "dirty game" Harry has lived with his whole life.

  23. I support the idea that they want to tell their own story. This is a couple with young children. So many had written about them, and they may as well tell their own story; life is too short. The question is what is their story from their point of view and experience? Sometimes I find them progressive, other times I wonder why they have to revisit a painful story after going so forward? One of the things they have in common by now, Harry had distanced himself from a lifetime friendship and trust of his brother. Meghan had distanced herself from a lifetime of friendship and trust from her father. Only the couple knows what works for them.

    1. Had anyone else had a father who did not make life enjoyable? Meghan's poor father does not see his other grandchildren nor his ex-wives. He's not a person who provides friendship or trust. And Harry's friendship with his brother appears to be contingent on giving up free will.

  24. Hi Allison - sorry forgot to put my ID on the comment posted - 6 December 2022 at 23:26
Family matters are complex and time will reveal some truth in the future.

  25. Meghan’s father’s behaviour has been appalling. As someone who has had to distance myself from a toxic emotionally abusive father and sibling I understand her decision. In my experience the “family is family”/“blood is thicker than water” statements are not one size fits all. I have been fortunate enough to rebuild my life and surround myself with friends (and a husband and son) who are now my family and I’m happy and satisfied and though I will always love my dad and sibling I am not missing them in my life. So for those who think this will destroy whatever is left of Harry’s family ties, maybe it will, maybe it won’t, but either way he will be fine. Anna

  26. Hmm, I have to concur with some of the sentiments above that this documentary is just too much. I am still totally in agreement that Harry & Meghan did the right thing leaving the RF and I applauded their challenging the racism experienced by Meghan. But having watched the first part of the Netflix show, I was left feeling that it was a step too far - the Oprah interview, the Netflix series, the book. Thank you for all your hard work Charlotte but I won’t be following H&M that closely any more.

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
