Her Majesty the Queen died "peacefully" this afternoon at Balmoral. Buckingham Palace confirmed the sad news at 6.30 pm with news: "The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
The official statement.
I thought it poignant to see a Rainbow filled the sky outside Buckingham Palace.
The Archewell website.
On her 21st birthday, the Queen said: "I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong." A promise Her Majesty fulfilled until the very end. Thank you, Ma'am.
We have lost the Queen, the only monarch most of us have every known. At times like this I'm reminded too, whilst she was our Queen, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother has been lost and my thoughts are with the entire family during this immensely painful time.

ReplyDeleteCondolences to all members of the Royal Family and all citizens of the Commonwealth for the immeasurable loss of Her Majesty the Queen. You do not need to be a citizen of the Commonwealth to be grateful for her service and the example she set.
ReplyDeleteAs a second generation royal watcher/follower, I knew this was coming. I anticipated it coming over the last few months, especially since she needed more time to rest and having then Prince Charles step in instead. No matter, this is still shocking. I truly hope all those who wanted to be at bedside as she passed made it and that she was peaceful in her passing. Thank you to Her Majesty for providing a great example of loyalty and service. My sincerest condolences to all of you in the UK and the commonwealth. Much love and respect from HC in Illinois/USA.
ReplyDeleteDeepest condolences to the immediate family and to the British people.

ReplyDeleteI'll switch to your other site during the mourning period.
ReplyDelete"A promise Her Majesty fulfilled until the very end." How poignant and how true, Charlotte. These words really hit home, don't they?
ReplyDeleteI hope Meghan will be able to attend the funeral, rather than having to stay away.
Such an immense loss. It's hard to imagine a world without her, especially when so few of us could recall a time before she was born. My heart is with her family, the British people, and all who regarded her as their Queen.
