It's the first official day of the Invictus Games 2022!
The packed day, which will culminate in this evening's Opening Ceremony, saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex begin with a visit to the British Embassy in the Netherlands to spend time with Team Great Britain. There are unconfirmed reports Meghan read The Bench to a group of children in the Embassy tent.
Invictus Athlete Victoria Ross tweeted: "Today I am feeling truly honoured to meet two totally amazing human beings. Thank you for doing what you do."
From there, it was time for a quick change and an afternoon at the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge.
It's the first medal event in the games and the challenge is designed to test teamwork, precision and navigational ability.
It's always an impressive watch.
The photos very much felt like a throwback as Invictus has been a lynchpin in Harry and Meghan's relationship, from their first published appearance at the games in Toronto to Sydney 2018 as newlyweds during their hugely successful Oceania tour.
Prince Harry decided to get in on the action by taking part in the challenge...

...with Meghan cheering him on.
Harry did a great job and most importantly had a lot of fun.
Meghan certainly enjoyed watching.
The Duchess opted for a smaller mode of transportation and had a special driver.
Meghan carried flags for Canada and Italy.
The journey was a bit bumpy :)

It wasn't long before Harry joined in.
It also provided another opportunity to spend time with athletes and their families.
At the welcoming reception yesterday, Prince Harry addressed athletes and dignitaries: "For the men, women, mums, dads, sons and daughters who have served, and have been wounded, injured or fallen ill, there is nothing that compares to seeing them rediscover their ability to do whatever they put their minds to. And there is nothing like seeing you as families watch proudly from the stands."
Harry added: "Finally, and most importantly, I want to thank all of you; the family and the friends. We couldn’t do this without you. And in many cases, we wouldn’t be here without you."
Tonight's Opening Ceremony will see the competitors and the Invictus family highlighted. We'll see both the Duke and Duchess speaking.
Now to a look at Meghan's ensembles for the day...
Meghan wore a chic Céline jacket. The Chasseur in bouclé tweed is described as: "Refined and sophisticated, this runway piece is one of Celine's signature creations. The brand brings its iconic finishes, combined with a classic and elegant look. There are eight gold Celine coat-of-arms buttons on the cuffs and pockets, as well as five gold coat-of-arms buttons on the front."
Meghan's bag is also by Céline.
It very much looks like Meghan's jeans are the Moussy Edmond Crop Skinny Jeans.
Meghan's sunglasses are the Linda Farrow Newman Aviator Sunglasses.
Meghan wore her Chanel flats.
Meghan wore several bracelets including her Cartier Love bracelet.
Earlier in the day, Meghan wore a camel ensemble. I'm hoping we'll see additional photos later in the day to definitively ID the look. A special word of thanks to UFO No More for their fantastic work.
In the meantime, I'll leave you with this one :)
This post will be updated as the day progresses. A reminder -- the Opening Ceremony kicks off about 6.30/7 pm local time.
Oooh!!! Loving this jeans and cute jacket look! The overall fit and look is great on her and suits the event perfectly. Wondering if I would look overdressed at work if I copied it.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you @Katie C.H.! Perfect separates that make up a chic outfit. But again because I love repurposing, that black cropped jacket she wore in Ireland would have worked as well, although, I do love a bouclé tweed jacket. Definitely go for this look at work. I concur people in US offices are so darn casual - I hate it! Definitely be comfortable with a more chic look! The Channel flats are perfect here as well. But the new purse? Not sure why she needed it. Still wondering if designers are sending her 'freebies'?
DeleteThey're adorable! Wish they'd do more public appearances here in the US. It's nice to see them out and about doing what they do best which is connecting with people. I'm so looking forward to the opening ceremony and their speeches later today, will it be livestreamed? If so can anyone provide me with a link please? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThey look so happy and Inviictus is so special especially Team Ukraine.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see Harry & Meghan out and about, at an event that clearly means a lot to both of them. I am coveting her jacket! I think they both look great - and very happy to be there! :)
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Sarah

Can you try to ID the gold necklace she is wearing in these photos with the black jacket?
ReplyDeleteThey look so wonderfully happy and it is so apparent that the veterans love them. This, in spite of all the shit the British media and the royal ‘family’ has thrown at them. Well done Meghan and Harry.

Meghan looks so chic and so in love even after all this time which is nice to see. Love seeing the kids drive Harry and Meghan in the cute cars. Too adorable! I just love this relaxed look on her too!
