A Darling Shot of Archie as the Sussexes Celebrate Christmas in Canada

It feels like quite some time since we've seen the Sussexes, however, a surprise was in store tonight as the family's Christmas card was shared by the Queen's Commonwealth Trust. Harry and Meghan are seen smiling by a Christmas tree as they watch Archie crawling towards the camera. It's an absolute treat to see the shot of seven-month-old Archie; what a darling baby he is. He very much resembles  both his parents in this photo - a mini Harry with his mother's eyes (take a look at his little jumper).

The message on the card reads "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from our family to yours". The Queen's Commonwealth Trust, of which Harry is president and Meghan vice-president, has been central to much of their work during 2019, it seems entirely fitting we see the much anticipated card shared by them. They look incredibly happy and excited to enjoy their first Christmas with Archie.

This little guy has grown quite a bit since he charmed Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter in South Africa in September.

Speaking of that adorable jumper, Laura identified it as the Boden Polar Bear Cashmere Sweater.

Omid Scobie reports:

"Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan opted for an environmentally friendly e-card this year, sharing a new family portrait with friends, family, colleagues and charities (including all their patronages)."

Omid also revealed the photo was taken by Janina Gavankar. The actress and musician has been a close friend of Meghan's for years. It's great they are spending time with close friends, perhaps this image was taken at a gathering at their Canadian base?

You may recall Ms Gavankar wore a stunning vintage ensemble for the royal wedding.

The card comes just days after it has been revealed the Sussexes are spending their family break in Meghan's former home of Canada. The country they were staying in was revealed by The Daily Mail, though I'm sure they hoped it might remain a secret until after they returned. I thought they handled it well by releasing a statement rather than endless speculation over the remainder of the month about the location. Canada holds a very special place in their hearts. They spent much of their early courtship in Meghan's Toronto home, where she lived for seven years whilst filming Suits. The decision to choose a Commonwealth country seems a good idea, keeping the focus on their work. You'll remember on Commonwealth Day they attended a reception for young Canadians living in the UK.

In a statement, the Queen's deputy communications secretary Hannah Howard wrote:

'As has been reported, Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are spending private family time in Canada.
The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them bot
The Duke of Sussex has been a frequent visitor to Canada over many years, and it was also home to the duchess for seven years before she became a member of the royal family.
They are enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people and the beauty of the landscape with their young son.'

Following the statement, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted this message.

Should we see an official release on Sussex Royal, I'll update this post immediately. I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful time. I'll be publishing the second part of the Year in Review at some point later in the week :)

    1. Same to you, USA Granny, and all MAM readers and of course CHARLOTTE! This is such a soothing photo. The little guy has a darling sweater and I love his hair. I was always a sucker for little Harry, and Archie looks so much like Harry, with some Meghan beauty thrown in. As Trudeau said, they are welcome where they are.

  8. I love their happiness as well as the artistic expression--quite outside the usual royal box--of a number of their b&w photos following their engagement and marriage. Bravo. Little Archie looks as if he's already taken charge of the camera. No backing down there!

Merry Christmas to everyone on MAM!

  9. What a lovely moment to capture. At first glance, I didn't even recognize Archie, he's changed so much, and sometimes very close-ups distort. Then after a second look, I realized that Archie was crawling towards the camera and the person behind the camera, perhaps, and explains the expression on little Archie bean's face- intense concentration. Babies seem to pucker up when they are confronted with something fascinating! Love his little jumper-so cute! Lovely to see the happiness on Harry's and Meghan's faces, learning towards each other, but both focussed on the their pride and joy.
Thank you, Charlotte for keeping MAM community informed. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and a happy, interesting, and successful new year!

  13. How lovely! So very pleased to know they are in Canada. Best place for them to feel protected from mean and unfair (not to mention untrue) comments. Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year to them the Sussexes, to you, Charlotte (my favourite blogs are yours) and to all the readers of the two royal blogs.

  14. I love this card, it is so fun and Christmassy.

I was hoping for a colour photo because I am getting bored with B&W but that is obviously the Sussexes thing, nothing wrong with that. But I am very glad that they used a recent picture. Babies change so much at this stage and I love a Christmassy vibe.

It is very wise to spend Christmas in a Commonwealth country, I respect the Sussex's for this choice. I do hope that Doria gets to see her Grandson there as well. Who knows, maybe Archie will learn to ski in Canada when he is a bit older. It is just a hop across the ocean after all, and a country that is dear to Meghan's heart. Merry Christmas!!

  32. I thought the Queen looked splendid in her blue dress and am so happy PP is out of the hospital! I'm going to just say it -- I am also glad that her chosen photos focus on the heirs and PP. Although W&K have a huge responsibility, it is good to have the focus where it should lie. I'm sure the Queen loves Harry's family as much as she loves Zara's and Peter's families, and as much as she loves all her children and grandchildren. I'm sure she as proud of Eugenie's wedding as she was of Harry's. I have to realize that there is the "business" and there is family. Maybe if everyone sees this, there will be just a teeny bit less criticism of H&M. Although there was a lot for K&W to do, it was good this past month to have things focused on them as the future heirs and to show that no one is trying to change that! Maybe it will be good for H&M's return to have had William and his children firmly shown as the next generations.

    Anne -Sophie

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
