Harry & Meghan Are Expecting Their Second Child

Wonderful news to share tonight! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's spokesperson confirmed this evening "that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child". The news was shared with a beautiful photograph of the couple taken remotely using an iPad by their longtime friend, photographer Misan Harriman.

The talented photographer said, "Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honored to capture it grow."

Vogue reports:

'For the announcement, Vogue contributing photographer Misan Harriman captured a photograph of the couple reclining under a tree, with Harry resting his hand on Meghan’s head as she lay in his lap cradling her bump. “With the tree of life behind them and the garden representing fertility, life and moving forward, they didn’t need any direction, because they are, and always have been, waltzing through life together as absolute soulmates,” says Harriman of observing his friends through the lens of his iPad remotely from London to Los Angeles.

Harriman, who is a great believer that all great images come to the photographer, notes that Meghan and Harry were so comfortable chatting and being in the moment that they were not fully aware that he was shooting a piece of history. “When you see people who have the connection that they have, it’s like reading the pages of a book,” he explains of the ease with which he captured “their truth and their joy”.

Misan added this fascinating nugget "Meg reminded me that had I not introduced her to a mutual friend then she wouldn’t have met Harry. I’m grateful for whatever small part I played."

For the romantic day that's in it, the photo is reminiscent of this classic scene from Notting Hill.

I know many of us privately suspected the couple were expecting and would share the news when the time was right. They went through a heartbreaking time last summer when Meghan suffered a miscarriage. Later writing about the story for The New York Times's 'The Losses We Share', Meghan's heartfelt and open account of her experience led to countless women bravely sharing their stories, including on this blog.

Omid Scobie noted exactly 37 years ago today it was announced Diana and Charles were expecting their second son.

Max Foster reports a palace spokesperson said: "Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and entire family are ‘delighted’ and wish them well."

Meghan looked radiant in a flowing Caroline Herrera dress. More from People:
'For the photo, the soon-to-be mom of two wore a floor-length Carolina Herrera dress, which was made for her while she was pregnant with her son, who will turn 2 on May 6. Meghan has a longtime rapport with the brand's creative director, Wes Gordon.'
So much has happened over the past year for the couple, it is splendid to see them both looking so happy and excited as they prepare to welcome their baby. I'm sure Archie is very excited to meet his baby brother or sister. As to when the Duchess is due, we don't know yet. I know you'll join me in congratulating the couple. It couldn't be a more special Valentine's Day for the Sussexes!

  5. Thrilled to hear this good news from the Sussexes! Love the way they included Diana in the timing of the announcement.

I, too, had a miscarriage 15 years ago and am grateful for Meghan speaking out on it. Because of that experience, I was very nervous throughout the subsequent pregnancy.

H & M look elated and I wish them both the very best. I don't think they've looked that happy since they're engagement photos. Maybe the California sun suits them?!

    2. Hey, lori!! Nice to see you too. Im on my phone more and more these days and the typos are terrible. I spend more time going through and correcting them!

I wonder what names they might be thinking of.

    3. Gah! Spelt your name wrong, Lauri. Sorry!

    4. Lol!! Don't worry everyone spells my name wrong!

I hope that Meghan decides to give birth here in the State and if her due date is May/June then Harry might not be traveling back to England as the various tabloids have speculated. If travel between the 2 countries is allowed then.

I kind of wondered if this might be the case, but still didn’t expect to open Instagram and see such a beautiful announcement! After all they’ve been through, I’m really happy for the successes they’re having, what with the summary judgment, Harry’s legal win, and now a second baby. Good for them!!

  14. I'm so happy for them!!! And she's been able to keep out of the public view, helped by zooming instead of public appearances. I think she can have a private pregnancy and birth, which they so deserve! It's interesting that the people who know them say such amazing things about them; it's nice to continue to be reminded of their true personalities as the tabloids would want us to thin otherwise. That is a beautiful photo!! I thought that Meghan not going to a trial and not accompanying Harry in June might be pregnancy related, but decided that my mind would give them some privacy!! (Such a baby boon -- the new baby will be the same age as Eugenie's and Zara's babies.)

  15. Congratulations and Happy Valentine’s Day to Meghan & Harry. This is a very memorably beautiful and special photo. They recently joined a poetry class via zoom. That zoom is their most recent image together; they looked not only very happy, Meghan’s face was fuller and bursting like flowering bloom. I am guessing a girl. The fact that she had not been seen the last several weeks, and from her look, I assumed she may be expecting. It may be a Spring baby like Archie.

Charlotte, I do not know if you have that photo. Here is one of the many links in the news.

  18. How sweet, the timing was theirs and I’m sure they are enjoying less stress with this little one! Maybe this was why they said she wouldn’t be traveling in June. Harry looks so, so happy. Everyone, toast them with the beverage of your choice and eat an extra piece of chocolate or have a bigger portion of your Valentine’s treat.

Aha...I called it when I saw her picture on the poetry zoom. I've had that late pregnancy bloom/swelling 5 times. Recognize it anywhere. I'm so thrilled and happy for them that they have had a quiet, away from trolls, nasty comments pregnancy this time. This would be why she is not going to the UK with Harry and NOT a snub to the Queen as the rotten rags are claiming. Congratulations and the best health to them all in these trying Covid times.

  27. Yay I am soo excited, can’t wait to see the baby I hope it’s a girl. I wonder when she is due, many people are saying she looks 5 months along so maybe a June baby? Such an exciting year after a horrible 2020, vaccines are hear, three royal babies one Middleton baby and a Middleton wedding. Now I can’t wait to find out princess Eugenie’s baby name. I am thinking Alexander Phillip stamp brooksbank.

Other than your choice, I know "rainbow baby" who were named with something associated with the heavens. I wonder what they will name this gift of a baby/ies after the July 2020 disappointment.

  30. I think the baby will be born in June and christened at Balmoral in august or September. I hope the queen will take a picture with all her great grandchildren this summer or next year for her platinum jubilee.

    1. They’re not flying with an infant in a pandemic. Come on now.

      Delete
    2. While I definitely think they won’t fly the baby around during a pandemic (which is an absolute responsible decision) it’s not as if they are submitted to the same risk amount. They mostly fly private - and while that is horrible for their carbon footprint no matter how many trees are planted- it limits the amount of exposure dramatically. They might come in contact with three to five additional people (flight attendant, border control (if even), chauffeur (if even, I mean their bodyguards probably open doors and such and the screen could stay up). They themselves don’t have to meet anyone really. But obviously their team would, so it’s not the right thing to do.
I highly doubt the new member of the family will be christened before they can go back. Neither Harry nor Meghan are practicing Christians. They might be christened and visit Church on Christmas and did for royal engagements but they were never seen to do so on their own. If the baby is christened it’s more out of tradition. Which is fine. That’s the reality for most Christians in Europe.

    3. I assume they will not do a christening or if they do one something private near their California home. Having nothing to do with Covid but I just do not see them doing one.

I think Harry and Meghan very much practise christianity, though. They treat others with kindness and compassion, and they appear to try to act in the best way of humanity.

  35. That's interesting that Misan Harriman introduced Meghan to someone who was instrumental in her meeting Prince Harry. In that case, I would guess Harriman introduced Meghan to Markus Anderson who I believe later introduced Meghan to Misha Nonoo at the Art Basel event that took place in Miami, FL in December 2014. There are photos of Meghan with Cory Vitiello and Markus at that event. And other photos at the same event of Markus with Misha and her former husband (who went to school with the Wales brothers). Misha Nonoo also once said in an interview that she met Meghan during a luncheon at an arts event in Miami in 2014. Misha and Markus are responsible for introducing Meghan to Prince Harry.

What is your line of work? ( just kidding). Will the real investigator synergy please get up? There used to be a nice TV show like that. Now, you had laid out the main owrk, and we do the research and connect more dots. I think you had some fun doing this; I would have had some fun like playing a game.

    1. "The dog barks the trailer moves on." That is typical of the Sussex's' life including this image being flooded with all kinds of articles on the daily fail. I happen to know the same expression as " The dogs bark, and the camels are moving on". Trailer moving on fits this couple's speed.

  37. Yay - another baby! So happy for them both. I thought of Notting Hill too! This photo is a lovely way of making the announcement and I am genuinely glad that they will get to handle the pregnancy, the birth and any future baby pictures exactly how they want to. I don't blame the RF for everything H&M went through but I do think they could have made it clear that as H&M's children are not expected to be working royals, Meghan was entitled to do what she wanted the first time around. As we know, that didn't happen but for H&M it does look like things have worked out for the best. Congratulations to them both.

    1. Any mother should be entitled to do what she wants around the announcement and specifics of their pregnancy and delivery. Even royals giving birth to “working royals” I find the show pony theatrics the royal family engages in with newborn infants and immediately post-partum women utterly distasteful. No one should have to parade in front of press in that situation working royal or not.

  38. Congratulations. I wish people could let them be. Weeks ago, tabloïds reported that Meghan would not join BRF and the queen in May as a mark of disdain ans disrespect. Weeks later, even if it might be true, the real reason is as simple and beautiful as a rose. At their own time and their own way they share their side of the story. Well wishes. I hope they could have twins.

  41. Gosh I'm so happy for them! I've literally been praying for this to happen ever since hearing the awful news late last year. I wish Duchess Meghan the healthiest and safest pregnancy, labour and delivery and healthy bundle of joy. I'm elated that baby Archie won't stay an only child for much longer..it is a lonely life (speaking from experience). I wish the very best to all of the Sussex family members. P.S. I'm so in love with the Sussexes' aesthetic: all of their milestone photos are classy, elegant, timeless black&white pics that convey all of their happiness and love they share in this family. Bless them!
