Watch: The Queen's Coffin Leaves Buckingham Palace

The Royal family are out in force today as Her late Majesty departs Buckingham Palace forever to lie in state at Westminster Hall. A procession led by the King will walk from 2.22 pm and is expected to arrive at 3pm. Ahead of today's events Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen’s coffin will leave Buckingham Palace for the final time tomorrow and travel to Westminster Hall for the Lying-in-State. A procession will include the King, Duke of York, Princess Royal, Earl of Wessex, Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex. The Queen Consort, the Princess of Wales, the Countess of Wessex and the Duchess of Sussex will travel by car. A short service will be held at Westminster Hall led by the Archbishop of Canterbury and accompanied by the Dean of Westminster. Lying-in-State will begin at 5pm."

  1. Thank you Charlotte it was heartbreaking but beautiful nice to see Harry walking side by side with his brother. May The Queen rest in peace

  2. I am struck by how unhappy everyone looks. I know that sounds dumb but I hope they all relax some over the next 4 days. I was doing fine watching the procession until the music began -- so sad. I have never seen in the US the family walking behind the coffin (I'm of course not an expert though), so this seems to be a custom that occurs in so many other countries. It was interesting to see the spouses join the walkers -- but were other grandchildren there, like Eugenie and Beatrice? That's confusing to me -- ceremonial events that are based on hierarchy. Meghan was trying not to cry and I saw her and Harry hold hands on the way out. Very sweet. I do want to mention that I was pleased that she wore the diamond/pearl earrings the Queen gave her. I was hoping she would.

    1. As a US citizen, I've never attended a family funeral where we did not follow the coffin into the church.

  3. I'm quite impressed that Anne bucked tradition and walked with her brothers. She was the only female mourner in the procession, I noticed. All the rest were soldiers/sailors/officers doing their jobs.

    3. absolutely Anonymous!
I've heard the strictures on women following a coffin have lifted in a lot of places in the UK, but the BRF can be very traditional, still. And women, traditionally, have not been in the mourners' procession (among the gentry and above).
So I'm so very glad she bucked that tradition and did her soul's duty, instead.

  4. Everything went well yesterday and I'm happy about it.
Magnificent bow from Meghan, whose outfit and elegance I liked.
Happy birthday Harry, be blessed and fulfilled.

  5. I see some news media stirrers are trying to claim that if you don't hold hands with your spouse in public your marriage is faltering and this apparently proves that William and Kate are in serious trouble. According to this logic Zara and Mike are ok but Beatrice and Eugenie's marriages may be also at risk which is obviously nonsense. It is nice to see Harry and Meghan holding hands, but just because other royal couples prefer to confine their overt demonstrations of affection to more private occasions it does not prove anything. We should refuse to participate in this damaging practice.

  6. It has really struck me how difficult it must be for the Royal family to appear in public and be so exposed to people who might be tempted to say or do something hostile to them. The walkabouts must be particularly risky. This applies especially to Charles, Camilla, Harry and Meghan. Uniformed speculation is rife when even a momentary facial expression is interpreted as a "smirk". And we have the so-called experts on body language who think that William and Kate are estranged because they are not holding hands. It is so easy to start thinking that there must be something in this rumour mongering. Thakyou Charlotte for not pandering to it.

Welcome to Mad About Meghan! We do so look forward to reading your thoughts. Constructive, fair debate is always encouraged. Hateful, derogatory terms and insults are not welcome here. This space focuses on Harry and Meghan, not any other member of the Royal family. It's not the place to discuss politics either. Thank you for reading, we look forward to your comments :)
