Meghan's Pretty in Pink Staud for Lakers Game

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a rare public appearance last night, stepping out for an NBA Game at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Harry and Meghan watched the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Memphis Grizzlies in a match which eventually saw the home team take the win. It looks like a group from the Archewell team were with them for the night out.

They laughed as they were shown on the Jumbotron (though whether they kissed or not, we don't know :)).

Another view.

People reports:

"In video footage released by the NBA, the royal couple seemed happy to play along with their kiss cam moment, with Meghan, 41, happily smiling at Harry, 38, as their faces were shown to a 20,000 crowd including Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Saint West and Adam Sandler.

During the game, Prince Harry and Meghan — who wore a pink linen Sarah Staudinger suit jacket and tailored shorts — cheered on the home team, who eventually won 117-111 to take a 3-1 lead in the first-round playoffs against the Grizzlies".

The appearance comes as Prince Harry prepared to fly to London next week for his father's coronation. It is understood it will be a quick flying visit with suggestions Harry will return to California the same day. Harry is due to attend the Coronation service at Westminster Abbey, but will not be participating in any other events.

It comes following a front page in the Telegraph pertaining to private letters exchanged between the Duchess of Sussex and the King following the couple's Oprah interview. According to a statement released by the Sussexes' communications secretary, it's understood both Sussex and Buckingham Palace lawyers were in touch with the publication regarding the story. "The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago. Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous. We encourage tabloid media and various royal correspondents to stop the exhausting circus that they alone are creating."

Meghan looked effortlessly stylish and summer-ready in a rosebud pink shorts-suit by STAUD.

The Maxwell Blazer is described as "a structured linen jacket with a left chest pocket, two front hip pockets and and features a two-button closure". The matching shorts are a wide leg Bermuda pair with an adjustable lined buckled belt. They retail for $375 and $245 respectively and can be purchased at Shopbop (shorts here), STAUD and Harrods. It also comes 'oversized' at Neiman Marcus.

More on the brand from Net-A-Porter.

'Despite comparing her personal style to an art teacher, Sarah Staudinger is the master of that cool-girl LA look. The former Fashion Director at Reformation launched STAUD two years ago with partner George Augusto, and it quickly caught the attention of tastemakers Alexa Chung and Leandra Medine. Each collection is inspired by editorials of Betty Catroux, vintage clothing and downtown street art.'

The Maxwell blazer is a popular staple piece for the brand. Below, it's shown in denim at Nordstrom

Below, the Maxwell in 'natural' and 'white', as shown at Bloomingdales

Vogue reports on the chic look:

'Markle was dressed like a true California girl in a pink linen shorts suit by LA- based fashion brand Staud made up of an oversized blazer with matching high-waisted shorts, paired with a simple white T-shirt and gold jewellery. It’s a casual look compared to the more formal outfits she wore in her London days, however she still stayed loyal to the ultimate in Duchess-approved footwear – the classic suede court shoe.'

Meanwhile, Meghan made a special virtual appearance for close friend and family photographer Misan Harriman.

More from Harpers Bazaar:

'Duchess Meghan gave a video introduction for longtime friend and photographer Misan Harriman, who was about to deliver a TED Talk.

"Our next speaker has an unmatched eye for a good photograph," Meghan said at the start of the clip. "I’ve experienced his talent firsthand as he has captured many meaningful milestones for me and my family, and I know there are many others who share in this experience. His lens has photographed everything from events that have changed the world, invisible moments we all desperately needed to see, along with some of the plant’s most recognizable faces. But, this was not always his path and you might be surprised to hear not who but what he credits for his success. I am so thrilled to welcome to the TED stage my dear friend, Misan Harriman."'

It looks very much like Meghan repeated a Brandon Maxwell dress from 2018. The crepe midi dress style is available in white at Net-A-Porter. Meghan also owns the dress in yellow and wore both for various royal engagements.

  1. Lovely to see them happy and relaxed despite all the drama others are trying to create. I worry about Harry in London, but hopefully quick in and out and all will be well. I wish I could wear such a cute little linen suit, she looks gorgeous. LRB

I’m glad to see them out having fun. Harry looked like he was going to kiss Meghan on the cheek ! Hee hee Shorts and matching blazers are on the racks in here in Florida. This was a late 1990s look with Bermuda length shorts. I remember wearing them with wide shoulder printed jackets. I like this polished look with a more tailored looking jacket and the matching colors. I like where the jacket ends to show the shorts. This is one look from the past that I can approve.

    1. Never was it worn as well as when Julia Roberts donned that blazer and Bermuda shorts in the movie "Pretty Woman". That movie launch in 1990. I had my own shorts and blazer set. ;-) Just saying...Elle

  3. Ah, thank you! I've been missing my girl! That peachy-pink little suit is beautiful and fun. I read that they are with a group of Archewell employees, etc. so this may be a work reward. I love her introduction for her friend but she doesn't look like herself to me -- her face is so elongated. Really, it's lovely to see them out and snuggling. :)

It's so nice to see them again. Meghan is very much giving Tig vibes here! I'm loving the pink, as well as the fact that she and Harry seem so relaxed together. It's such a bummer about the coronation, but it does seem like the best conclusion to a disappointing and lengthy tale. Harry and Meghan will continue thriving in California for years to come without much contact with the UK it seems. As long as they're happy and healthy, that's what counts.

  5. It is certainly true that the "circus" is being created by the media and the so-called "royal experts," who all seem rather desperate to come up with royals stories of any kind in advance of the coronation. When the Mail is quoting Paul Burrell as a supposed "expert" on the Sussexes, you know they're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

That said, I've never really come up with a firm opinion on shorts suits. I've seen some that look great on models and actresses, but I think that on most people, they aren't very flattering. This suit is a pretty shade of pink, and I suspect that Meghan Sussex would look very nice in it if we could see her full-length, but when it comes to shorts suits, much depends on the length and cut of the shorts. They need to be no shorter than mid-thigh and relatively loosely cut. These shorts appear to qualify, but they're still suitable only for events like a basketball game, not for work, unless you work in a very creative or fashion-related field.

Staud is a nice label. They sell interesting handbags, and I own 2. I saw a great skirt in their Spring 2023 show, but so far, it hasn't shown up on their site. Sometimes runway items don't make it to the market because not enough store buyers expressed interest. Alas.

  6. Thank you for the post! Unless I'm mistaken in your last sentence I believe you meant to say Meghan and not Kate.

  7. Want to add that I really love the belt on the little suit.

  10. Meghan really loves the fashion if the 90, and wearing spiked heels with shirts! Perhaps linen is not quite the best material to wear whilst sitting at a sporting event - the suit was a wrinkled mess by the end of the game!

  11. Just a fashion comment. Love the pink shorts and jacket with the blocked sandals on the African American model. Right length for jacket on shorts and the outfit really suits her body shape. The other models not so good with jacket length shoes and body shape. Personally I do not like stiletto heels combined with shorts ever - makes person look unbalanced and almost at imminent risk of a fall.

    1. I agree, though I love high heels with dresses and skirts. With shorts suits, something like a wedged espadrille, or a sandal with less precipitously-high heels, works better. Moreover, the Duchess has very slim calves. In shorts, they would best be flattered by a shoe with an ankle-wrap tie. I have a couple of pairs of dressy wedged espadrilles, with ankle ties, by Andre Assous. They would work nicely with an outfit like this.

Women anxious not to draw attention to heavy calves or short legs should avoid ankle ties and straps, but a wedged shoe or sandal without them can help to elongate the calf, especially in shorts.

  13. They look wonderfully at ease and happy, which is all that matters. That suit epitomizes Southern California style. Anyone remember Julia Robert in a shorts suit from the movie “Pretty Woman” back in the ‘90s? I expect Meghan to go on thriving and recovering from the bad times in the past. All good things.

It is a very nice shorts-suit with a flattering color. Seeing Meghan dressed like that, I thought immediately of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman ! :)

I am quite surprised that we don't see her making a lot of engagements during the last few months, but surely she enjoys the early years of her children.

Last week I was thinking of this yellow dress, and I thought I would love to see Meghan wearing it again...

  17. They are adorable and cute. I would already like to see them continue their commitments but I suppose that they are in a very careful preparation of their various projects and that they also take advantage of the very young years of the children.

  18. I've seen Meghan photos of Meghan in a couple of different shorts suits in her pre-Harry days and she looked great. They seem to suit her- they give off a fun, sassy, and confident vibe. Nice to see her out and about and with her staff. Gives a sense of what her life is about these days. Thanks for nice report, Charlotte.

  19. It was a great game! Love to see my faves have a good time: date night+employers and employee bonding=perfection.
Also go Lakers! Let's hope the one true King we recognize aka King James delivers another championship to the city of Los Angeles this year!
