The Sussexes Return to Canada & A Busy Week for Meghan!

Hello dear readers! We're catching up on all things Harry and Meghan today. I'm delighted to say we have quite a bit to share (scroll down and you'll see the couple are back in Canada as we speak!). On Friday, 10 November, Meghan was spotted out for lunch with her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen.

According to People the pair enjoyed a meal at Pane e Vino before a spot of retail therapy at nearby boutique Wendy Foster.

On Mother's Day, Kelly shared a lovely photo of her and Meghan with a little more background on their close bond and Meghan's ongoing support for Alliance of Moms. "As Mother’s Day approaches, I can’t help but think of my own community of Motherhood. I instantly think of you Meg. How incredibly nurturing and warm and open you are. What an incredible friend and mother. I’m truly in awe of you and I am so grateful you are part of my Community of Motherhood". Kelly described Meghan as a "fierce advocate for those in need". Kelly and her husband Julian lost their nine-year-old son George tragically. She has courageously worked as an advocate since, supporting moms and families, every step of the way.

Meghan sported a black sweater (with a poppy pin on her lapel in honour of Remembrance/Veterans Week). She teamed it with a pair of La Ligne canvas shorts in mushroom (available here), her Givenchy belt (first worn after the wedding), Aquazzura 'Love Affair' flats and carried the gorgeous Cesta Collective Braided Canvas Tote (available here). The brand is one Meghan is increasingly fond of and the underlying mission of the collective explains why. Cesta bags are made by hand from start-to-finish. Each basket is hand-crafted of locally sourced, renewable resources, by talented female artisans in Rwanda, Africa — whom Cesta are proud to pay 500-700% times the national average salary of Rwanda.

There was a very special surprise in store at the Variety Power of Women event when Meghan made her red carpet return in style.

Speaking on the red carpet, Meghan spoke about the importance of women supporting each other. "This industry is so special and you see women use the platform that they have and just channel it for good. I think the more we support each other the more it amplifies the work, amplifies our community". Meghan added: "I'm just thrilled to be in such good company".

Meghan spoke about the "crossroads of entertainment meeting philanthropy", something very close to her heart. When asked about the incredible success of Suits on Netflix over the summer, Meghan smiled and said "Isn't it wild?", adding "It was great to work on. Such a great cast and crew. We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit, but, it's hard to find a show you can binge watch that many episodes of these days". The Duchess concluded: "Good shows are everlasting".

When asked about holiday traditions, Meghan replied, "That’s a great question. Our little ones are little, and we're enjoying every moment of it".

People reports:

'The event celebrates the publication's Power of Women honorees, who each get their own Variety cover. Meghan, 42, was honored last year, and told reporters on the red carpet that she was "proud" to be in attendance to offer her support.

This year's Power of Women honorees are Fantasia Barrino, Billie Eilish, Lily Gladstone and Carey Mulligan. LuckyChap co-founders Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara were being awarded with the Producer of the Year award.'

Speaking about future projects, Meghan added: "We have so many exciting things on the slate. I can’t wait until we can announce them. But I’m just really proud of what we’re creating. My husband is loving it, too".

On Instagram, the brand revealed Meghan wore a bespoke version of their 'Rosa' dress in fawn matte viscose crepe.

Meghan carried Proenza Schouler's Flip Shoulder bag (with thanks to What Meghan Wore).

And a pair of very chic Aquazzura 'Dangerous Liasons' pumps. They are currently on sale at Farfetch.

I was very much hoping we would see a trip or two to Canada ahead of the 2025 Invictus Games and my wish was granted! The Duke and Duchess made their return to Vancouver attending a Vancouver Canucks hockey game against the San Jose Sharks.

Prince Harry made the first ceremonial puck drop.

People reports the moment had a very important connection to Harry's late grandmother: 'It was 21 years ago that the Queen, who died in Sept. 2022, made her own ceremonial puck drop at a Canucks and Sharks game in Vancouver. The National Hockey League rolled out the red carpet for the monarch during her visit on Oct. 6, 2002, which was part of her 11-day tour of Canada in honor of her Golden Jubilee'.

By all accounts, the Queen enjoyed it just as much as Harry did :)

CTV News Vancouver reports: "Harry attended the game alongside his wife Meghan Markle, local Indigenous leaders, B.C. Premier David Eby and Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sports Minister Lana Popham".

The match was held at Rogers Arena, the host venue for the closing games in 2025. Below, a very funny clip of the couple joining the crowd in total confusion at the decision to disallow a Sharks goal.

The couple were joined by Markus Anderson, one of Meghan's closest friends. Tonight's photos reminded me of Markus accompanying Meghan to the Invictus Games Toronto closing ceremony back in 2017.

In this shot, we can see Meghan's wearing her beautiful Cartier Juste un Clou necklace.

A closer look at the stunning piece.

With thanks to Royal Suitor via Twitter, the Daily Hive notes: "A delegation of senior representatives from Invictus are in Vancouver & Whistler this week for a pre-planned visit. The delegation will be conducting site visits and reviewing operational plans in both Vancouver and Whistler." Below, Prince Harry photographed earlier today.

It seems the Duchess is a dedicated Canucks fan :)

The win was worthy of a dance move or two. Right, Harry?

Canada holds a very important place in Harry and Meghan's hearts. The 2025 games may be the very best yet.

  1. I am constantly amazed that these two can rise above the hatred and vitriol they must be aware of on social media , in the press , everywhere. Trolls, Bots or just humans who have nothing better to do. Invictus Harry is always the best version of Harry - as a Brit he must be enjoying learning the rules of all these new sports! My son is a fan of the AFL and tries to explain it all to me…I get confused! I am very envious of Meghan’s gorgeous jewellery, I imagine most of it is gifts from Harry. Understated but elegant and eye catching nevertheless. I love the red carpet dress, but it just feels too long? I would be worried about tripping. The length must be her choice, however, as I understand this is a custom version of the dress.
Thank you for continuing to cover their endeavours is such a positive way. LRB

    2. Indeed the best thing is to continue with your life and projects and let the barking dog drown in its own noise. I am a faithful spectator of the life of the Sussexes and as much as I am proud of their progress, I am also very moved.

    1. I agree, and to her style in clothes also. I wouldn't wear most of it myself but it suits her very much. Lovely to see her and him separately and together again.

  7. It's always nice to see the Sussexes out and about. I like the fact that the Duchess appeared at the Power of Women event -- her presence can only help draw attention to the event -- and though I am not a hockey fan (unlike so many other Chicagoans), it's fun to see Harry dropping the puck and the old picture of Queen Elizabeth.

I have admired Proenza Schouler for a number of years and own a couple of pieces from this label (bought on sale -- the prices are a little high for my budget). This dress is terrific and very much to my, and the Duchess's, minimalist taste and preference for neutral colors and clean lines. And that Cartier necklace is drool-worthy. I pass Chicago's Cartier store fairly regularly and am always yearning for whatever they have on display in the windows. In fact, I actually found myself one day doing a sort of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" act, staring at jewelry while sipping coffee. I hastily moved on, less people think I was deliberately trying to emulate Audrey Hepburn, whom I do not resemble in the slightest.

I haven't commented over on "Chronicling Kate" lately because I haven't had a lot to say about her clothes, and I've already made my views on her "Shaping Us" project pretty clear. The Duchess's recent wardrobe has simply been more interesting.

    2. Same - for me I feel that Meghan's style is more relatable/accessible/modern (not necessarily affordable). I've been enjoying Kate's blazers & always love her color palette choices, but Meghan's choices are more California chill. Loved the dress for the Variety event & love seeing her and Harry out & about. -op

  8. Thank you for the updates Charlotte! For some reason, I really dislike the red carpet look, maybe it's the particular shade? Or maybe the hair styling, I'd personally have my hair down for this to give some dimension.

  9. Glad to see them in Canada! Her red carpet look was very elegant but I would have preferred a different hair style. One question…how does she (or anyone) walk in those heels?!?

  11. I just enjoyed this blog so much, with all the lovely details. As wonderful as her Variety dress is, seeing Meghan casual with her hair down is the best. REALLY enjoyed seeing them in Canada, with her friend Markus.

  12. It's always great to see Meghan out and about being her gorgeous happy self.
I love this new Sussex carefree era!
I just wish royalists and the British press would get on with the program and mind their own royals and stop obsessing over ours, let us enjoy our royals in peace. Let's move on everybody. There's no turning back, like my fave singer once said: "we are never getting back together".

  15. I finally understand her fashion sense of simple elegance with this dress. There have been a few things lately I didn’t care for, but really I get it now . The shoes are incredible. Meghan looks gorgeous with each passing year, a testament to how happy she is. And I love ice hockey games, you can scream as fan , and not have to be quiet lady !

  17. Awww, I love that they are back in Canada. Can’t wait for the IG in Vancouver.

As to fashion, yes, Meghan does love the minimalist architectural form when it comes to her fashion style. You see this repeated over and over. It suits her personality and body as she’s petite and has gorgeous, dewy skin. Sometimes it’s a miss but she’s out there till she gets it right. I like the drapery of this beige gown and Meghan’s minimalist make up and lack of jewelry here. The look emphasizes her and the gown. She can get away with this because she looks happy and confident. Plus she’s there to honor others.
    -cheers from PNW

This was lovely to open up the page and see all of the great events, photos and writings. They both work very hard, most times behind the scenes. Wonderful to see that the Duke of Sussex won his court case yesterday with the phone hacking. Validation, validation, validation. :) I hope the Met proceeds with criminal charges. The amount of slurs and downright lies that they have endured because of some of the unscrupulous media has been found out now. The Duchess is looking svelte, happy and fulfilled. I can't wait till they come up to Vancouver for the Invictus games. :)
